SurR.Ai’s journey into the fusion of Surrealism and modern digital aesthetics can be traced back to an experimental project completed in July 2022. This series, titled “AB2TB” (From André Breton to Tim Burton), began as a creative and educational case study, exploring the possibilities of digital art and generative tools through a Surrealist lens. Inspired by Breton’s revolutionary ideals, his poem “Choose Life,” and Tim Burton’s whimsical, dark stylistic approach, the collection represented a unique homage to two visionary creators from different eras.

The “AB2TB” project bridged the seemingly contrasting worlds of Breton and Burton, translating them into animated digital collectibles. The piece shown here exemplifies SurR.Ai’s early explorations in crafting an otherworldly digital tapestry, combining Breton’s dreamlike surrealism with Burton’s eerie yet charming visual motifs. This piece, like many in the series, channels a kaleidoscope of strange yet familiar figures, interspersed with delicate, floating shapes and vibrant, prismatic colors that blur the line between fantasy and reality.

Each work in the AB2TB series is not merely an aesthetic product but a narrative experiment—an educational endeavor aimed at refining the techniques of digital and video art creation. SurR.Ai used this series to master various AI tools, creating a dialogue between human intention and algorithmic randomness. The result is a vibrant synthesis where bold, angular characters wander through dreamlike landscapes, and geometric forms are juxtaposed with organic, sometimes grotesque elements. The project culminated in a series of digital video artworks that mark the beginning of SurR.Ai’s evolution as a digital art innovator. This experimental phase was pivotal, serving as a foundation for more refined and complex works. By integrating AI tools into the creative process, SurR.Ai moved beyond the constraints of traditional media, using algorithmic unpredictability to echo the Surrealists’ technique of automatism, where spontaneous creation bypasses conscious control.
