Ethereum (ETH) exchange-traded funds (ETFs) are set to close August 2025 with total net inflows exceeding $4 billion, significantly outpacing their Bitcoin (BTC) counterparts, which recorded more than $600 million in outflows during the same period.

Ethereum ETFs Outshine Bitcoin ETFs

According to data from SoSoValue, spot Ethereum ETFs have attracted $4.04 billion in net inflows so far this month. In contrast, spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $628 million in net outflows in August.

Among Ethereum-focused funds, BlackRock’s ETHA ETF leads the market with $16.88 billion in net assets as of August 28. Grayscale’s ETHE follows with $4.80 billion, while Fidelity’s FETH holds $3.56 billion.

The total net assets tied in spot ETH ETFs currently stands slightly above $29.5 billion. This figure represents almost 5.5% of Ethereum’s total market cap.

On the Bitcoin side, BlackRock’s IBIT remains the leader with $83.8 billion in net assets, followed by Fidelity’s FBTC at $22.45 billion and Grayscale’s GBTC at $20.01 billion.

Although BTC ETFs still dominate in overall value, the latest data suggests the gap between Bitcoin and Ethereum investment products is narrowing. If the current momentum continues, August 2025 could mark the month when ETH ETFs outperformed BTC ETFs by their widest margin yet.

One of the major factors driving Ethereum ETF inflows is ETH’s growing appeal as a balance sheet asset. Corporate adoption of ETH has accelerated this year, bolstering confidence in its long-term role in institutional portfolios.

This year, several notable companies announced plans to add ETH to their balance sheets. For instance, SharpLink Gaming recently doubled down on its ETH bet, adding another 56,533 ETH to enhance its ETH reserves.

Similarly, ETHZilla – an Ethereum treasury company – recently increased its total ETH holdings to more than 102,000 ETH. Data from CoinGecko shows that, currently, BitMine is the leading publicly-listed company with the largest ETH reserves – holding over 1.7 million ETH.

Will ETH Surge Past $5,000?

Institutional sentiment toward ETH continues to strengthen. VanEck CEO Jan van Eck recently described ETH as “the Wall Street token,” highlighting its growing role in enabling stablecoin transfers across financial institutions.

Despite its recent rejection from close to $5,000, the overall demand for ETH remains vehemently strong. As a result, ETH reserves on exchange continue to dwindle at a rapid pace, which may lead to quick price appreciation for the digital asset in the near-term. At press time, ETH trades at $4,340, down 4% in the past 24 hours.

Bitcoin’s $115K Struggle: Is a Deeper Drop on the Horizon? https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoins-115k-struggle-is-a-deeper-drop-on-the-horizon/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoins-115k-struggle-is-a-deeper-drop-on-the-horizon/#respond Sat, 02 Aug 2025 08:27:23 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoins-115k-struggle-is-a-deeper-drop-on-the-horizon/ Bitcoin (BTC) is facing renewed downward pressure as it struggles to maintain levels above $115,000. At the time of writing, the cryptocurrency is trading around $115,745, down approximately 2.2% in the past 24 hours and nearly 6% below its July all-time high of $123,000.

The latest market movement has raised questions about short-term price stability, particularly amid growing concerns over weak structural support in the current trading zone.

Recent data from on-chain analytics platform CryptoQuant suggests that while long-term holders remain largely profitable, short-term sentiment has shifted.

Bitcoin UTXO Data Points to Changing Investor Behavior

Activity among Bitcoin Unspent Transaction Outputs (UTXOs), a metric that tracks coins being spent either in profit or at a loss, indicates that many investors are beginning to react to smaller price drops, potentially signaling increased market uncertainty.

In a recent analysis on CryptoQuant’s QuickTake platform, contributor Darkfost shared insights on how UTXO activity can reflect broader market sentiment.

“This chart, based on UTXOs from block data, highlights the number of UTXOs spent either in profit or in loss,” the analyst wrote, noting that this approach focuses on transaction count rather than value, helping filter out price-based noise.

Bitcoin UTXO metric.

Historically, Bitcoin has seen a dominance of UTXOs spent in profit, with patient holders benefiting from long-term appreciation. Between July 11 and 13, the ratio of profitable UTXOs compared to those spent at a loss surged above 10,000, meaning for every loss-making spend, there were over ten thousand profitable ones.

However, this ratio has since declined to around 500, suggesting that some investors are now closing positions at a loss even with minor price retracements. This change, according to Darkfost, may indicate short-term selling pressure despite the overall profitable status of most holders.

Weak Support Structure Adds to Downside Risk

Another CryptoQuant analyst, Maartunn, highlighted structural weaknesses in Bitcoin’s recent price surge. On July 10, BTC rapidly climbed from $112,000 to $115,800, but this upward move left little on-chain support in the price range.

“The move happened so quickly that no support levels were formed,” the analyst explained. “If momentum drops or sellers step in, the price could fall just as fast as it rose.”

With Bitcoin now hovering just above its last known on-chain support zone, analysts caution that a failure to hold this level could accelerate the decline.

Bitcoin Dominance Continues Historic Climb – Altcoins Struggle To Gain Ground https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-dominance-continues-historic-climb-altcoins-struggle-to-gain-ground/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-dominance-continues-historic-climb-altcoins-struggle-to-gain-ground/#respond Sat, 12 Jul 2025 11:38:40 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-dominance-continues-historic-climb-altcoins-struggle-to-gain-ground/

Bitcoin has officially entered a new chapter in its bull market, surging to fresh all-time highs near $118,800 after weeks of tight consolidation. This decisive breakout marks a pivotal shift in momentum, with analysts pointing to a potential explosive leg higher as bullish sentiment returns. The move above previous highs has not only reignited interest in BTC but also fueled optimism across the broader crypto market.

One of the most telling indicators of the current cycle’s strength is Bitcoin Dominance. According to top analyst On-Chain Mind, BTC dominance has climbed to 65% since the beginning of this bull market. This sharp increase highlights a clear preference among investors for Bitcoin over altcoins, solidifying its position as the market’s anchor in times of volatility and growth.

As Bitcoin leads the charge, market watchers believe the breakout could trigger a wave of institutional inflows and renewed attention from sidelined retail investors. With momentum building and confidence growing, the breakout above $118K may just be the start of an even larger move, one that could define the next phase of the 2025 crypto bull cycle.

Bitcoin Leads The Charge

After weeks of sideways consolidation below the $110,000 mark, Bitcoin has finally broken out, launching a new bullish phase and pushing the broader crypto market into motion. Altcoins, which had lagged in recent months, are now climbing above key resistance levels as confidence spreads. This coordinated move comes amid a backdrop of macroeconomic shifts, with market participants increasingly anticipating a weakening US dollar and the return of inflationary policies under US President Donald Trump’s administration.

With expectations of rate cuts looming and pressure mounting on the Federal Reserve, the market sees crypto—especially Bitcoin—as a natural hedge. However, caution still lingers. US Treasury yields remain elevated, continuing to flash warnings of systemic stress in the traditional financial system. That tension has only strengthened Bitcoin’s appeal as a non-sovereign, hard-capped monetary asset.

Bitcoin dominance tells the story clearly. “At the start of this bull market, it sat at 40%. Today? 65%,” noted On-Chain Mind, emphasizing how investor preference has overwhelmingly leaned toward BTC. This dominance reflects a trend that has barely flinched, even as Ethereum and other altcoins attempt to catch up.

As BTC leads the market higher, its dominance reinforces its role as the primary beneficiary of macro uncertainty. While the altcoin space is beginning to show signs of life, it’s clear that Bitcoin remains the anchor, and investors aren’t ready to rotate just yet.

4‑Hour Chart: Post‑Breakout Cooling

Bitcoin’s 4-hour chart shows a clean breakout followed by consolidation, a typical sign of strength after an impulsive move. Price surged from the long-standing resistance at $109,300 to a local high of $118,000 in less than twelve hours, marking an 8% rally. This breakout flipped prior resistance into support and triggered strong volume, validating the move.

Volume has decreased during this period, which is characteristic of a bullish consolidation rather than distribution. The 50-period moving average (blue) has crossed above the 100-period (green), forming a short-term golden cross near $109K. This crossover supports a bullish outlook, with the 200-period moving average (red) trending upward from $105K, reinforcing the structure of higher lows.

As long as Bitcoin remains above $112K, bulls are firmly in control. A drop below $109K would invalidate the breakout and raise short-term risks. However, if price can break above $118K with conviction, it could open the door to a run toward the $120K psychological level.

While the fiat-backed stablecoin market surged over 76% from 2024 to 2025, adding more than $97 billion in value to reach a record $224.9 billion, not all entrants participated equally in the rally.

The overwhelming majority of growth came from USDT and USDC, which together account for 93.5% of the circulating supply. USDtb by Ethena and USD0 by Usual are also making strong debuts. The same cannot be said for traditional finance-backed stablecoins.

TradFi Misses the Mark

According to the latest report by CoinGecko, traditional finance-backed stablecoins like PayPal’s PYUSD and SocGen’s EURCV struggled to gain meaningful traction.

Despite brand recognition and regulatory alignment, both coins have seen limited adoption and utility in a market dominated by crypto-native incumbents.

Their underperformance pointed to the challenges TradFi institutions face in competing with established decentralized players. However, the door remains open for future entrants, particularly as the US edges closer to regulatory clarity.

Meanwhile, commodity-backed tokens experienced a 67.8% market cap increase during the same period, as this cohort added $773.9 million and reached a record $1.9 billion during a period of economic volatility. This growth closely mirrored the rally in gold prices, as investors turned to the metal as a hedge against mounting geopolitical and macroeconomic risks.

Despite this, the segment remains a minor player, and comprises just 0.8% of the total value of fiat-backed stablecoins. Even with strong tailwinds from gold, commodity-backed tokens expanded at a slower pace than their fiat counterparts.

Tether Gold (XAUT) and PAX Gold (PAXG) continue to lead, and collectively make up 84% of the category’s total market cap. Interestingly, this surge in market value did not coincide with an increase in token issuance, indicating that the demand for tokenized commodities stayed relatively flat and was largely influenced by asset appreciation rather than increased adoption or new users entering the space.

Tokenized Treasuries See Breakout Year

Beyond stablecoins and tokenized commodities, another corner of the real-world asset space saw even more explosive growth. In April 2025, the tokenized treasury market hit an all-time high, with a total market cap of $5.6 billion. This is a 544.8% increase from the previous year, which makes it the strongest-performing RWA class during the period.

A major catalyst for this growth occurred in March 2025, when the US introduced sweeping trade tariffs, which fueled investor flight to safer assets. Between March and April alone, tokenized treasuries added $2.3 billion in value, up 67.1%. BlackRock’s BUIDL token, launched in July 2024, quickly became the category leader and accounted for 44% of the total market by April.

The product saw explosive growth in 2025, as it rose by more than 372% to end April with $2.5 billion in tokenized treasuries. While these digital assets are now issued across several blockchain networks, Ethereum remains dominant, with Stellar in second place. Despite rapid expansion, overall user participation is still relatively narrow, as tokenized treasuries are distributed across just over 11,000 individual on-chain addresses.

Bitcoin’s price action continues to draw attention as it briefly surpassed $87,000 in today’s trading session, marking a notable 3.3% increase over the past 24 hours.

Though it has since slightly pulled back to around $86,815 at the time of writing, the asset’s gradual recovery since last week appears to be building a foundation for potential upward movement. Analysts now seem to be monitoring technical and on-chain trends as sentiment begins to lean toward a short-term bullish outlook.

Particularly, on-chain data platform CryptoQuant has highlighted notable shifts in market behavior, including insights into funding rates, investor positioning, and psychological resistance levels. Despite the gains, not all investor groups are experiencing profits, with short-term holders still facing unrealized losses.

Several Bitcoin Bullish Signals Identified

A recent analysis shared by CryptoQuant contributor EgyHash outlines several indicators suggesting that Bitcoin could be preparing for another upward leg. The analyst points out a significant $6 billion rise in open interest across derivatives markets over the past two weeks.

Open interest measures the total value of outstanding futures contracts, and its growth typically reflects increased participation or confidence in the direction of price movement. This metric, coupled with a rise in funding rates, indicates an uptick in long-position interest among traders.

Another key metric, exchange inflows, which track how much Bitcoin is being moved onto centralized exchanges, has declined notably during this same period.

When fewer coins are sent to exchanges, it can imply reduced intent to sell, as holders typically deposit assets to liquidate them. This reduction in exchange inflow has been interpreted as a decrease in selling pressure, potentially supporting a more stable price environment in the short term.

These on-chain metrics collectively hint at a market that may be gearing up for a continuation of its current trend, assuming external variables remain favorable.

New Investors In Profit While Short-Term Holders Face Struggle

While certain metrics lean bullish, a deeper look at investor categories reveals diverging outcomes. Another CryptoQuant analyst, Crazzyblockk, points out that Short-Term Holders (STHs), or those who purchased BTC within the last six months, remain in an unrealized loss position.

quicktake-image

Their average acquisition price stands at approximately $91,000, forming a key resistance level that may influence upcoming price movement. As long as Bitcoin trades below this level, latent sell pressure could persist, especially if upward momentum stalls.

Conversely, new investors — defined as those who entered the market within the past month — have recently returned to profit. With a realized gain of 3.73%, this group is showing signs of renewed confidence, potentially contributing to near-term price support.

However, according to the analyst, the current risk zone remains active until Bitcoin firmly closes above the $91,000 mark. Crazzyblockk wrote:

Until BTC closes above the $91K threshold, Short-Term Holders remain in loss. This may sustain latent sell pressure, especially if price momentum weakens — reinforcing the importance of a decisive breakout above STH realized price to neutralize this overhang.

Struggle for Stablecoin Dominance Set to Enter Third Round, Fireblocks Says https://earlybirdsinvest.com/struggle-for-stablecoin-dominance-set-to-enter-third-round-fireblocks-says/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/struggle-for-stablecoin-dominance-set-to-enter-third-round-fireblocks-says/#respond Tue, 15 Apr 2025 16:35:34 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/struggle-for-stablecoin-dominance-set-to-enter-third-round-fireblocks-says/

The competition for stablecoin dominance is entering a third phase and companies such as Tether, issuer of the largest token, and Circle, the No. 2, are setting up their positions as the industry faces increased regulation in the form of the European Union’s Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) regime and U.S. legislation that is working its way through Congress, according to digital asset cryptography and custody specialists Fireblocks.

This latest stage will feature banks, large and small, as well as incumbent payment firms that are weighing up the best way to integrate the tokens into their existing businesses, according to Ran Goldi, SVP of payments at Fireblocks.

Stablecoins, blockchain-based tokens that mimic U.S. dollars for the most part, have become big business. Tether’s USDT is the clear leader, with a market cap close to $145 billion. Circle’s USDC has over $60 billion in circulation and the company is considering a public listing on the New York Stock Exchange. The stablecoin market could grow to $2 trillion by the end of 2028, Standard Chartered said in a Tuesday note.

“We are going to see banks issuing stablecoins, as they are under MiCA,” Goldi said in an interview. “You are seeing financial institutions that are fintechs entering such as Robinhood, Ripple and Revolut. By the end of this year, you are going to see maybe 50 more stablecoins.”

The industry has already passed through two stages, Goldi said. The first occurred when USDC went up against U.S. regulated trading firm Paxos, which had partnered with crypto exchange Binance to issue BUSD. For regulatory reasons Paxos had to drop BUSD and so Circle won that round, Goldi said, adding that Paxos’ new USDG consortium is growing in stature and likely to play a major role in the future.

The second stage was between Circle and Tether.

“USDC was trying to be bigger than USDT, but then USDC tumbled a bit with the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank etc. It was harder for people to accept that product, especially people outside the U.S. Meanwhile USDT has really grown tremendously. I think USDT will remain the dominant dollar stablecoin outside of the U.S. I believe Circle will have to put up a really good fight, which they’ve done in the past and are very good at doing.”

It’s worth noting, though, that USDC is licensed under MiCA, giving it access to 27 EU nations with a total population of about 450 million people. USDT is not.

Growth in international payments

Stablecoins grew to prominence as an essential way of moving money between volatile cryptocurrencies, meeting a particular need given the industry’s shortage of fiat on and off ramps. Dollar-pegged coins of various sorts blossomed further with the explosion of decentralized finance (DeFi).

Looking further back, the early days of crypto show an evolution of payment service providers (PSPs), starting with those who wanted to use cryptocurrencies to settle their bills. This was followed by a second wave of business-to-business PSPs like Bridge, recently acquired by Stripe, and Zero Hash, Alfred Pay, Conduit and others.

“Some of these PSPs are firms you may not have heard much about, but they are actually moving billions in stablecoins, servicing businesses to pay to other businesses most of the time,” Goldi said. He pointed out that less than 20% of Fireblocks’ total transaction volume was stablecoins in 2020, increasing to some 54% last year.

For a typical use case, consider an importer in Brazil that wants to bring in a container and pay someone in Turkey or in Singapore. It takes the Brazilian reals, converts them to a stablecoin, and either sends the funds directly to the exporter or changes them to the destination currency and pays with that, Goldi said.

Some banks have already caught on to the cross-border payments use case, with the likes of Braza Bank in Brazil, BTG Bank and DBS in Singapore catering to business clients with accounts that support stablecoins. Others are still weighing the best use case for them.

“We have been approached by dozens of banks,” Goldi said. “They are asking whether they should be on/off ramps, or holding reserves, or perhaps they are thinking about issuing a stablecoin. There are several things banks can do to make money out of stablecoins, from credit to on/off ramps to FX.”

Based on those conversations, Goldi said he believes most of the banks are writing strategic plans that will probably be submitted by the end of this quarter.

“It will be interesting to see if banks build something on their own, or use BNY Mellon, for instance, that serves banks, or a vendor like Fireblocks. I think the large tier-1 banks like JPMorgan, Citi and Morgan Stanley will build their own tech, while the tier-2 banks will want to use some hosted tech provider,” Goldi said. “Of course they are banks and they move slowly, so I think they would be looking to approve those plans by the end of this year and perhaps do something in 2026.

Bitcoin surges to $99K as Coinbase defeats SEC in regulatory struggle https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-surges-to-99k-as-coinbase-defeats-sec-in-regulatory-struggle/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-surges-to-99k-as-coinbase-defeats-sec-in-regulatory-struggle/#respond Fri, 21 Feb 2025 13:24:40 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-surges-to-99k-as-coinbase-defeats-sec-in-regulatory-struggle/

Coinbase has reached an agreement with SEC staff to dismiss its enforcement case pending final approval from the Commission, pushing Bitcoin back over $99,000.

The agreement follows a protracted legal dispute that raised questions about regulatory authority and asset classification.

In public statements, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong explained that the litigation began when the SEC sought to force the delisting of assets the company maintained were not securities—a move Armstrong described as exceeding the agency’s statutory mandate.

Per the Coinbase Blog, the resolution comes with no fines or changes to Coinbase’s operating model.

Armstrong’s remarks on social media stressed that the legal challenge was not solely about defending a business model but about preserving an industry framework defined by law rather than by regulatory interpretation. The prolonged litigation, which involved considerable legal expenditures and resource allocation, has prompted broader debate over the balance between enforcing consumer protection and nurturing market innovation.

As Armstrong tweeted, the outcome validates the company’s approach and signals that a firm’s adherence to legal principles can help set boundaries on regulatory enforcement. He also thanked President Trump for his role in pushing for change within crypto regulations.

“I have to give credit here to the Trump administration, for winning the election, and for the departure of the activist head of the SEC, Gary Gensler, who orchestrated this unlawful action along with Elizabeth Warren, and a handful of their lackeys in congress.”

By contesting the SEC’s delisting orders, Coinbase positioned itself to potentially safeguard a wider array of digital assets from measures that might otherwise restrict market participation. While the dismissal may not resolve every uncertainty in crypto regulation, it acts as a road sign to future legal interpretations and encourages the reassessment of enforcement practices that many view as overly aggressive.

The litigation, initiated amid shifting political and regulatory landscapes, raises important questions about how digital asset markets are defined and governed. The resolution will likely prompt further legislative efforts to clarify regulatory guidelines, a step that industry stakeholders argue is essential for fostering an environment where innovation can coexist with investor protection.

As market participants and policymakers digest the implications of this development, the agreement reminds them of the ongoing dialogue between regulators and crypto companies. The case, emblematic of the broader struggle for clarity in the digital asset arena, may well serve as a benchmark for future disputes where legal interpretations and market realities intersect.

Bitcoin Outperforms As Altcoins Struggle – Key Metrics Describe A Strong Divergence https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-outperforms-as-altcoins-struggle-key-metrics-describe-a-strong-divergence/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-outperforms-as-altcoins-struggle-key-metrics-describe-a-strong-divergence/#respond Wed, 12 Feb 2025 02:30:50 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-outperforms-as-altcoins-struggle-key-metrics-describe-a-strong-divergence/

Bitcoin has experienced a quiet weekend, following the massive volatility seen last week. The price has remained indecisive, closing around the $96,500 mark for five consecutive days. Bulls have lost control, unable to reclaim the $100K level, while bears struggle to push the price into lower demand zones. This tug-of-war highlights the uncertainty in the market as both sides fail to establish a clear direction for Bitcoin.

Key metrics shared by Glassnode reveal an intriguing divergence in market behavior. Bitcoin’s market cap peaked at $2.1 trillion on January 21, while altcoins (excluding Ethereum and stablecoins) reached their peak earlier, at $1.03 trillion on December 8. Since these peaks, altcoins have shown greater weakness, with a significant decline compared to Bitcoin’s relatively stronger performance. This divergence suggests a shift in capital preference, with investors favoring BTC during these uncertain times.

Bitcoin’s relative strength amid market volatility has reignited hope among investors, with many anticipating a potential recovery in the coming weeks. However, the price must break out of its current range to establish a clearer trend. For now, the market remains in a consolidation phase, leaving traders and analysts watching key levels closely for the next big move.

Bitcoin Leads The Market Amid Uncertainty

Bitcoin continues to lead the market amid ongoing volatility and uncertainty, holding strong above key demand levels while most altcoins face significant declines. Despite the challenges, bulls have successfully maintained Bitcoin above the crucial $90K level, preserving its bullish structure. However, the price action suggests a lack of clear direction in the short term, with market participants bracing for further volatility.

Key metrics shared by Glassnode on X highlight an important divergence in market dynamics. Bitcoin’s market cap reached its peak of $2.1 trillion on January 21, while altcoins (excluding Ethereum and stablecoins) hit their peak earlier, at $1.03 trillion on December 8. Since these peaks, Bitcoin’s market cap has declined by only 8.2%, while altcoins have dropped by a staggering 29.8%. This divergence underscores a shift in capital preference, as investors appear to favor BTC over riskier altcoins during uncertain market conditions.

This capital rotation into Bitcoin demonstrates its resilience and perceived safety compared to the broader crypto market. With altcoins struggling to find support and BTC maintaining its footing above crucial levels, the market sentiment is increasingly tilted toward BTC as the dominant asset.

However, for bulls to regain full control, Bitcoin must reclaim the $100K mark and establish a stronger trend above its current range. Until then, the market remains in a consolidation phase, leaving traders to monitor key levels closely for a potential breakout.

BTC Struggles To Reclaim $100K

Bitcoin is trading at $97,750 after days of ranging between $94,600 and $100,000. The market remains in a state of indecision, with short-term direction still unclear. Bulls have struggled to push the price above the $100K mark, a key psychological and technical level, while bears have been unable to hold BTC below the $95K level, signaling strong support at this range.

For bulls to regain momentum and confirm a short-term reversal, the $98K mark must be reclaimed as support, followed by a decisive push above the $100K level. Breaking and holding above $100K could signal the beginning of a new rally, setting the stage for a test of all-time highs and potentially higher levels in the coming weeks.

On the downside, if BTC loses the $95K level, the price could fall further into lower demand zones around $90K, where strong support may be tested. This would likely trigger increased volatility as bulls and bears battle for control of the market.

With both sides of the market showing resilience, the coming days will be crucial in determining Bitcoin’s short-term trend. Investors and traders are closely monitoring these key levels for a clearer signal of where the market is heading next.
