Bitcoin’s price remains in a zone where it is seeing little upward momentum as it continues to hover below its recent all-time high. After reaching above $123,000 earlier this month, the asset has pulled back slightly, trading at $119,343 at the time of writing.

This represents a 2% gain over the past week but still leaves BTC roughly 3% below its recent peak. The muted price action reflects a market that appears to be consolidating amid diverging signals from on-chain indicators and regional demand metrics.

Recent analysis from CryptoQuant contributors points to a weakening appetite for Bitcoin in both the US and South Korea, two markets that have historically contributed significant trading volume.

A closer look at exchange activity and regional pricing premiums suggests a potential shift in investor behavior, as profit-taking becomes more prominent and traders appear hesitant to buy at current levels.

Regional Premiums Point to Lower Demand from US and South Korea

According to a post by CryptoQuant analyst Arab Chain, the Coinbase Premium Index, which measures the price difference between Bitcoin on Coinbase and other global exchanges, has failed to climb significantly despite BTC reaching record highs in July.

The index remained around levels seen in June, suggesting that US investors using Coinbase have not been aggressively buying Bitcoin during the rally.

Arab Chain noted that the index’s movement toward negative territory alongside Bitcoin’s price increase may indicate profit-taking among American investors. This implies that some may be anticipating a correction before re-entering the market.

Similarly, the Korea Premium Index has declined, signaling reduced demand from retail investors in South Korea. This index reflects the spread between Bitcoin’s price on Korean exchanges and global averages.

The negative trend suggests Korean traders have been selling below the global average, with weak buying interest on local platforms. Arab Chain interprets this as retail traders possibly waiting for a discount to reenter the market, indicating caution among individual investors in Asia’s key crypto hub.

Exchange Inflows Suggest Rising Sell Pressure

Adding to the picture, another CryptoQuant contributor, ShayanMarkets, highlighted a notable development in BTC’s on-chain activity. The latest data reveals Bitcoin has experienced its largest net inflow to exchanges since July 2024.

Typically, large inflows signal that holders are preparing to sell, increasing supply on trading platforms and contributing to potential downward price pressure. ShayanMarkets explained that this behavior, especially when occurring near all-time highs, may indicate institutional or fund-driven profit-taking.

Such moves often align with efforts to reduce risk exposure during overextended market rallies. Historically, spikes in exchange inflows have been followed by price corrections, making this a trend to monitor closely.

However, the redistribution of capital from Bitcoin into other assets may benefit the broader crypto market. The analyst noted that altcoins could see renewed interest as funds rotate out of BTC. If the trend continues, traders may observe increased volatility and speculative movement across alternative tokens in the short term.

Billionaire Steve Cohen Issues Recession Warning, Expects Fed To Keep Rates Steady Amid ‘Significant Slowing Growth’: Report https://earlybirdsinvest.com/billionaire-steve-cohen-issues-recession-warning-expects-fed-to-keep-rates-steady-amid-significant-slowing-growth-report/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/billionaire-steve-cohen-issues-recession-warning-expects-fed-to-keep-rates-steady-amid-significant-slowing-growth-report/#respond Mon, 19 May 2025 10:14:02 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/billionaire-steve-cohen-issues-recession-warning-expects-fed-to-keep-rates-steady-amid-significant-slowing-growth-report/

Billionaire and hedge fund legend Steve Cohen reportedly believes that the US economy is not yet over the hump despite positive developments over the last few weeks.

At the Sohn Investment Conference in New York, the head of Point72 Asset Management says there’s a 45% chance that the US will enter a period of economic contraction, reports Bloomberg.

“We aren’t in a recession yet, but we have significant slowing growth.”

Cohen predicts that the US economy will grow by 1.5% in 2026, noting that the figure is “OK but not phenomenal.”

Data from Trading Economics shows that the US GDP has grown 3.2% on average from 1947 until 2025.

Turning to the S&P 500, Cohen notes that the stock market’s abrupt reversal after falling to a low of 4,835 points in April is “unusual,” comparing the move to the rallies witnessed after the March 2020 Covid-induced collapse.

For now, the billionaire says it is within the realm of possibility for the S&P 500 to retrace by as much as 15% or just move sideways in the coming months.

“Markets don’t have to go up every year. Markets can go sideways and that’s perfectly normal.”

As for the Federal Reserve, Cohen thinks that Chair Jerome Powell will keep interest rates steady to cushion the economy against tariff-induced shocks.

“They are going to be worried about inflation from tariffs.”

Cohen is not the only one to sound the alarm about the possibility of the US entering an economic recession. Last week, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon said that a US economic downturn is something he wouldn’t take off the table at this point, even after the White House signed a trade truce with China last week.

Concerns over Trump’s conflict of interest are slowing the progress of broader crypto policy https://earlybirdsinvest.com/concerns-over-trumps-conflict-of-interest-are-slowing-the-progress-of-broader-crypto-policy/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/concerns-over-trumps-conflict-of-interest-are-slowing-the-progress-of-broader-crypto-policy/#respond Sun, 11 May 2025 01:16:49 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/concerns-over-trumps-conflict-of-interest-are-slowing-the-progress-of-broader-crypto-policy/

Discussions around the personal enrichment and potential conflict of interest arising from U.S. President Donald Trump’s crypto asset ventures gained steam over the past week. These concerns are slowing not only the progress of the stablecoin legislation but also broader crypto policy. The founder of fintech venture capital fund Launchpad Capital, Ryan Gilbert, told CNBC:

“It’s unfortunate that personal business is getting in the way of good policy…I would hope that everybody in the administration, including the president, gets out of the way of good policy.”

The stablecoin legislation, known as the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act, aims to establish a regulatory framework for U.S. payment stablecoins.

The bill “is generally perceived to be the legislation that’s gonna be the easiest to get through,” Katrina Paglia, chief legal officer at venture capital firm Pantera Capital, told CNBC earlier this week. Therefore, Paglia was disappointed when the GENIUS Act failed to pass the Senate on Thursday with a 48-49 vote, but was not “surprised.”

Ethical concerns around Trump’s profits from crypto assets and ventures had blocked discussion of the draft U.S. crypto market structure bill scheduled for May 6. The market structure bill was introduced on Monday, aiming to provide much-needed regulatory clarity. The bill aimed to provide clear guidelines on how the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) would classify and oversee digital assets.

The sequence of events that raised conflict of interest concerns

Days before Trump’s inauguration, he launched the official $TRUMP memecoin, whose price spiked to an all-time high of $75 on Jan. 19, according to CryptoSlate data.

The price of $TRUMP fell rapidly after Trump’s inauguration, leading small investors to lose over $2 billion. Meanwhile, Trump-linked companies, which control 80% of the memecoin’s supply, earned around $100 million in trading fees by Jan. 30, Reuters reported in February.

In March, Trump family representatives were reportedly in talks to acquire a stake in the U.S. arm of Binance, which paid a historic fine after pleading guilty to violating anti-money laundering laws in 2023.

On March 13, the Senate Banking Committee passed the GENIUS Act. On March 25, World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance project linked to the Trump family, announced plans to launch its own stablecoin, USD1.

The investment by Abu Dhabi-based investment giant MGX into Binance was announced on March 12. But on May 1, WLF co-founder confirmed that USD1 was selected to execute the transaction, according to Reuters. MGX is chaired by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s national security adviser and a brother of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed. Abu Dhabi’s state-owned $330 billion wealth fund Mubadala, is a partner in MGX.

In late April, Trump invited the top 220 of his memecoin holders to a private audience at a gala dinner on May 22. At the time, Democratic U.S. senator for Georgia Jon Ossoff called the move an “impeachable offense.”

Earlier this week, the Financial Times reported that insiders made nearly $100 million by buying the memecoin of Melania Trump, the U.S. First Lady, hours before its public launch.

Past week intensified tensions around ‘Trump’s corruption’

The GENIUS Act was supposed to sail through. But last weekend, nine Senate Democrats, including four who previously voted for the bill, said they would withhold support if the bill was not revised to address national security and money laundering concerns.

On May 6, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), the top Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, used the time scheduled to discuss the crypto market structure bill to protest against “Trump’s corruption.” Waters stated that Trump made at least $350 million from his memecoin, adding:

“Trump ran on a campaign to put more money in the pockets of Americans—turns out he just meant his pockets and those of his cronies.”

At the same hearing, Chastity Murphy, senior advisor for financial institutions at the Treasury Department, said Trump’s crypto empire is a vehicle for “influence peddling, bribery, and regulatory capture.” Representative Stephen Lynch asserted that Trump has earned around $2.9 billion—nearly 40% of his wealth—from his crypto ventures.

On May 7, U.S. Senator Mark Kelly introduced the End Crypto Corruption Act to prohibit members of Congress and family members from “issuing, endorsing, or sponsoring crypto assets, such as meme coins and stablecoins.” He noted:

“Trump is cashing in on his presidency and making millions from his own crypto coins—this is corruption in broad daylight.”

In a letter on Friday, Democratic Senators urged Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Trump’s ties to Binance, Bloomberg reported. Meanwhile, former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ), who served four months in prison, has requested a pardon from Trump.

Senator Jeff Merkley told CNBC in a statement:

“Currently, people who wish to cultivate influence with the president can enrich him personally by buying cryptocurrency he owns or controls…This is a profoundly corrupt scheme.”

Despite the concerns, Senators from both parties have already started negotiating since the failed vote on Thursday and could vote on the GENIUS Act again as soon as next Monday. Most lawmakers expect the GENIUS Act to eventually pass the Senate and land on Trump’s desk, but the timeline is uncertain amid the conflict of interest concerns.

Bitcoin RHODL Momentum Slowing Down—Analyst Warns Pattern ‘Not Ideal’ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-rhodl-momentum-slowing-down-analyst-warns-pattern-not-ideal/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-rhodl-momentum-slowing-down-analyst-warns-pattern-not-ideal/#respond Fri, 21 Feb 2025 10:34:44 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-rhodl-momentum-slowing-down-analyst-warns-pattern-not-ideal/ An on-chain analyst has pointed out that the Realized HODL (RHODL) Ratio indicator is on the way down, a sign that may not be positive for Bitcoin.

Bitcoin RHODL Has Been Losing Momentum Recently

In a new post on X, analyst Checkmate has discussed about the latest trend in the RHODL Ratio of Bitcoin. The “Realized HODL (RHODL) Ratio” is an on-chain metric that calculates the ratio between any two given RHODL wave bands.

HODL wave bands keep track of the percentage of the total BTC supply that was last moved inside a given age range. The RHODL wave bands are a modified form of these, adding an additional weighting factor: the Realized Value.

Put simply, the Realized Value is the spot price at which a given token of the cryptocurrency was last transacted on the blockchain. That is, it’s the coin’s current cost basis.

As the RHODL wave band multiplies this metric with the amount of supply present within a given band, it tells us about the sum of cost bases of coins in that band. When the value of the indicator goes up for any particular band, it means the amount of capital invested into coins falling in the age range is rising.

In the context of the current topic, the RHODL Ratio of the 1 week and 1 to 2 years bands is of relevance. Below is the chart shared by the analyst, that shows the trend in this RHODL Ratio over the history of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin RHODL Ratio

As displayed in the above graph, the Bitcoin RHODL Ratio for these wave bands shot up to a high level during the rally beyond $100,000 that took place last year. Such a trend implies the 1 week wave band, which corresponds to the fresh capital coming into the sector, grew large relative to the veteran 1 year to 2 years band.

From the chart, it’s apparent that an extreme rotation of capital into the 1 week wave band has historically coincided with bull run tops for the cryptocurrency’s price.

Since last year’s peak, the metric has been on the way down, which suggests the new demand for the asset is now slowing down. This is also visible in the momentum oscillator for the indicator attached by the analyst on the bottom, which just dipped into a zone that has played the role of the transition region between bullish and bearish trends in the past.

Considering the historical pattern, this development in the RHODL Ratio is certainly not the best for Bitcoin. It now remains to be seen whether the metric would continue its decline in the coming days, potentially signaling a transition away from a bull market, or if it will bounce back up.

BTC Price

Bitcoin made a retest of the $98,000 mark earlier today, but it appears the coin ended up finding rejection as its price is now down to $97,000.
