main testing environment, known as Holešky, is approaching its final days.

The network will be shut down after it runs the upcoming Fusaka upgrade, which is expected to roll out in the second half of September.

The Ethereum Foundation confirmed that Holešky will stop receiving support from client developers, infrastructure providers, and testing teams two weeks after Fusaka is implemented.

Launched in September 2023, Holešky was mainly used to test the staking system and validator setup. According to the foundation, it enabled many validators to test updates before they were deployed to the mainnet. These included changes like the Dencun and Pectra upgrades.

Hoodi is currently taking over Holešky’s role. It already supports the Pectra update and will be used for future changes, including Fusaka. All staking-related tools and infrastructure will be moved from Holešky to Hoodi.

For developers working on smart contracts or decentralized applications, the foundation recommends using Sepolia. This testnet will continue to be the preferred place for application testing while Hoodi handles validator and protocol development.

The upcoming Fusaka upgrade, also referred to as Fulu-Osaka, aims to improve how the network handles data by sharing the workload more evenly among validators.

VanEck CEO Jan van Eck recently shared his thoughts on Ethereum during an interview with Fox Business. What did he say? Read the full story.

ASIC Shut Down 14,000 Scam Sites as Crypto Cons Flood Online https://earlybirdsinvest.com/asic-shut-down-14000-scam-sites-as-crypto-cons-flood-online/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/asic-shut-down-14000-scam-sites-as-crypto-cons-flood-online/#respond Sat, 23 Aug 2025 01:10:13 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/asic-shut-down-14000-scam-sites-as-crypto-cons-flood-online/

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) has removed more than 14,000 fraudulent websites over the past two years, according to an August 21 press release.

On average, ASIC takes down around 130 sites each week. Roughly 3,015 of the blocked sites were tied to cryptocurrency schemes.

ASIC is expanding its removal efforts beyond websites to cover advertisements on social platforms. These ads often act as the entry point, which leads people from Facebook or Instagram posts to fake investment sites.

Deputy Chair Sarah Court explained:

Expanding our investment scam takedown capability to social media ads will help safeguard Australian consumers.

The regulator pointed out that investment scams remain the most damaging form of online fraud for Australians, with reported losses reaching $945 million in 2024. By targeting both scam websites and misleading ads, ASIC hopes to cut off access points before people are drawn in.

Scammers have also been refining their methods. One tactic is known as “AI washing”, where operators falsely claim their platforms use artificial intelligence (AI) to guarantee returns. They also create realistic-looking sites using polished templates, live trading charts, and fabricated news articles.

To avoid detection, fraudsters use “cloaking” techniques, which show one version of a site to reviewers while presenting another to ordinary visitors.

Recently, ASIC charged four men in Victoria for helping transfer scam funds into crypto and foreign bank accounts. How did the case unfold? Read the full story.

Anthropic Lets Claude Models Shut Down Harmful Conversations https://earlybirdsinvest.com/anthropic-lets-claude-models-shut-down-harmful-conversations/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/anthropic-lets-claude-models-shut-down-harmful-conversations/#respond Tue, 19 Aug 2025 01:04:59 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/anthropic-lets-claude-models-shut-down-harmful-conversations/

The artificial intelligence company (AI) Anthropic has added a new option to certain Claude models that lets them close a chat in very limited cases.

The feature is only available on Claude Opus 4 and 4.1, and it is designed to be used as a last step when repeated attempts to redirect the conversation have failed, or when a user directly asks to stop.

In an August 15 statement, the company stated that the purpose is not about protecting the user, but about protecting the model itself.

Anthropic noted that it is still “highly uncertain about the potential moral status of Claude and other LLMs, now or in the future”. Even so, it has created a program that looks at “model welfare” and is testing low-cost measures in case they become relevant.

The company said only extreme scenarios can trigger the new function. These include requests involving attempts to gain information that could help plan mass harm or terrorism.

Anthropic pointed out that, during testing, Claude Opus 4 resisted replying to such prompts and showed what the company called a “pattern of apparent distress” when it did respond.

According to Anthropic, the process should always begin with redirection. If that fails, the model can then end the chat. The company also stressed that Claude should not close the conversation if a user seems to be at immediate risk of harming themselves or others.

On August 13, Gemini, Google’s AI assistant, received a new update. What does it include? Read the full story.

Tether shut out of Juventus capital raise despite increased investment https://earlybirdsinvest.com/tether-shut-out-of-juventus-capital-raise-despite-increased-investment/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/tether-shut-out-of-juventus-capital-raise-despite-increased-investment/#respond Mon, 02 Jun 2025 11:40:23 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/tether-shut-out-of-juventus-capital-raise-despite-increased-investment/

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino has disclosed that the company is being prevented from participating in Juventus Football Club’s latest capital increase.

In a June 2 post on X, Ardoino addressed mounting inquiries from Juventus supporters who had hoped Tether would provide new capital to help the club sign players and regain its competitive edge.

According to Ardoino, Juventus has not permitted Tether to participate in the capital increase process, which began in April 2025. Without this formal approval, Tether cannot inject new funds, regardless of its willingness or financial capacity.

He stated:

“Tether looks forward to being a part of the team’s growth and future. But to date the company has not even allowed Tether to participate in the capital increase announced a month ago (around 15-110M). We simply cannot contribute unless society allows us to.”

He somewhat dryly added that his ticket purchases might be the only support Juventus is willing to accept for now. Ardoino said:

“It is truly a shame to leave aside willing members who could invest significantly to help make Juventus Great again. I hope that at least the money from my grandstand ticket can help support the management’s expenses”

Tether began investing in Juventus in February 2025, securing an initial 8.2% stake. By April, it had increased its holdings to 10.12% of issued shares, equating to 6.18% of the club’s voting rights.

Despite this increased involvement, the stablecoin issuer is excluded from a capital raise expected to generate between €15 million and €110 million.

The club’s funding push follows a fourth-place finish in the 2024/25 Serie A season. To reposition itself, Juventus recently named Damien Gomolli as General Manager to lead its commercial and marketing efforts.

USDT stride continues

Tether’s push into football aligns with the broader momentum of its flagship stablecoin, USDT.

According to Ardoino, USDT gained over $5 billion in market capitalization in the last 30 days, outpacing its main rival, Circle’s USDC. The surge has pushed USDT’s total market cap above $153 billion, while USDC trails at $60.9 billion.

The growth reflects broader tailwinds, including Bitcoin’s climb to an all-time high in May and emerging regulatory clarity from the US and Hong Kong.

Nike-Owned RTFKT to Shut Down Operations by January 2025 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/nike-owned-rtfkt-to-shut-down-operations-by-january-2025/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/nike-owned-rtfkt-to-shut-down-operations-by-january-2025/#respond Mon, 24 Feb 2025 11:07:57 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/nike-owned-rtfkt-to-shut-down-operations-by-january-2025/

RTFKT, the Web3 studio acquired by Nike in 2021, has announced it will shut down its operations by January 2025. Known for its innovative projects like Clone X, the announcement has sparked confusion and raised questions about what comes next for the studio’s community.

An Unexpected End

Since its founding in 2020, RTFKT has been at the forefront of Web3 innovation and NFT sneakers. From its high-profile Clone X collaboration with artist Takashi Murakami to its tech-driven Cryptokicks iRL sneakers with features like auto-lacing and app connectivity, RTFKT built a solid reputation in the Web3 space.

Nike’s acquisition of the studio was seen as a big move to embrace the metaverse and digital collectibles, cementing RTFKT’s place as an industry pioneer.

However, the announcement of the shutdown by RTFKT leaves a cloud of uncertainty and disappointment, even as the company reflects on the impact it has had. “The revolution we started lives on through every creator we inspired,” said the studio in its announcement.

While this acknowledges their role in shaping the Web3 space, it is somewhat at odds with the reality that many of those creators are now voicing frustration over the abrupt nature of the closure.

A Final Product

What has added to the surprise is RTFKT’s decision to release one final product, the MNLTH X featuring the Blade Drop, in December. The timing of this release—just weeks before the studio is set to wind down—has raised some eyebrows.

While framed as a ‘testament to our commitment to pushing boundaries’, it’s left some wondering why they would release a new product so close to the end, which feels at odds with the studio’s previous focus on long-term innovation.

Final Thoughts

RTFKT has promised to preserve its legacy by creating an archival website to showcase its projects. They will also continue to update existing collections and services through their official channels, including Discord. But what happens to royalties and IP of existing projects? This remains to be seen.

RTFKT’s announcement to shut down by January 2025 leaves many questions, as the studio hasn’t explicitly mentioned the reasons behind the shutdown. The statement is proud of its accomplishments but gives little explanation for why a company supported by Nike and, despite setbacks, was largely considered a leader in Web3, would step away so suddenly.

However, a more general rationale remains under speculation: whether this actually reflects broad strategic changes within Nike internally or, indeed, is more about their plan to step away from the NFT space.

Gang Hits Crypto ATMs, Steals Collectible Cards—Police Shut Them Down https://earlybirdsinvest.com/gang-hits-crypto-atms-steals-collectible-cards-police-shut-them-down/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/gang-hits-crypto-atms-steals-collectible-cards-police-shut-them-down/#respond Mon, 17 Feb 2025 22:22:04 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/gang-hits-crypto-atms-steals-collectible-cards-police-shut-them-down/

Australian authorities have arrested four people linked to a series of burglaries targeting cryptocurrency ATMs and collectible card stores across Melbourne’s northwest.

In a February 17 statement, officers seized around 50,000 AUD ($31,800) worth of trading cards and several firearms in the process.

According to Victoria Police’s North West Metro Regional Crime Squad, the group is accused of breaking into ATMs in Brunswick, Hoppers Crossing, Bentleigh, Werribee, and Vermont.

Authorities also believe they raided trading card stores in Epping, Moonee Ponds, and Eumemmerring since mid-January, stealing cards from brands like Yu-Gi-Oh, Pokémon, Dragon Ball Z, AFL, and NBA.

Search warrants were carried out in Reservoir, Coburg North, Greensborough, and South Morang, leading to the seizure of five firearms, ammunition, around 100 stolen car keys, and a pill press machine.

Two men are facing multiple charges. A 32-year-old from Epping faces charges related to commercial burglary, vehicle theft, and methamphetamine possession. Meanwhile, a 37-year-old from Reservoir has been charged with 14 counts of burglary and firearm offenses.

Police say the suspects may be connected to a larger Middle Eastern crime syndicate that directed their activities. Two other individuals, aged 33 and 46, were questioned and later released as the investigation continues.

Detective Inspector Patrick Watkinson credited the arrests to cooperation between law enforcement, the trading card community, and business owners.

Meanwhile, an international investigation exposed a $100 million crypto laundering network. How? Read the full story.
