Bitcoin’s red month is almost here, and as we approach yet another September, is it inevitable that prices will dwindle? Let’s take a look at some of the reasons the ninth month of the year is historically bad for Bitcoin.

Why September is historically Bitcoin’s red month

Since 2013, September has proven to be a challenging month for Bitcoin, with losses in eight of the last 11 years. That could be because retail investors typically take profits after summer rallies or even crypto to cover their fall expenses, like tuition fees and tax planning.

Bitcoin’s red month may also be something of a self-fulfilling prophecy as traders expect red candles and act more defensively, pulling the market down further. Perspective here is important, as most September pullbacks have been modest.

The month typically marks a local bottom, after which Bitcoin often rebounds strongly into ‘Uptober’ as Q4 historically brings recovery and, in even massive rallies. In October 2020, for example, Bitcoin surged from around $10,800 at the start of the month to over $13,800 by the end, marking a gain of more than 27%.

August recap: all-time highs and whale sightings

August 2025 was dramatic by any measure. Bitcoin surged to an all-time high of $124,533 on August 14, only to tumble 11% to lows hovering around $110,000 just two weeks later.

Nearly $200 billion in market value evaporated, with a single event triggering the drop: a previously dormant whale that sold ~24,000 BTC, pushing the spot price below $109,000 and sparking the largest liquidation cascade of the year.

Almost $900 million in derivative positions were wiped out, 90% being bullish longs, with $150 million in BTC and $320M in ETH liquidated. Ethereum showed relative strength, remaining above its 100-day moving average even with an 8% decline.

The recent weakness wasn’t just about technicals or sentiment. Spot and derivatives market order books remained thin, so any major sell (like the whale dump) was enough to amplify price volatility.

Meanwhile, on-chain data in late August showed tepid activity and reduced inflows, further weakening bid support.

Macroeconomic uncertainty also continues to be a headwind. With the U.S. Federal Reserve’s September policy moves in focus, traders are pricing in both risk of erratic moves and potential for renewed optimism if macro signals, like a rate cut, turn favorable.

Preparing for September: scenarios and signals

Crypto trader Cas Abbé outlined three possible scenarios for Bitcoin as September approaches. In his primary “Range & Repair” scenario (40% probability), Bitcoin is expected to trade sideways between $110K and $120K for most of the month, as excess leverage is reduced and institutional investors gradually step in to accumulate. Such a consolidation would create a healthier base for a potential Q4 rally.

In the “Second Flush” case (35% probability), if Bitcoin drops below $110K, a further wave of liquidations could ensue, driving the price into the high $100Ks and erasing leftover leveraged positions. Historically, these kinds of corrections often precede a strong bottom.

Conversely, the “Quick Reclaim” scenario (25% probability) envisions institutions buying aggressively, enabling BTC to rapidly reclaim the $117K–$118K range and triggering an earlier return of bullish sentiment.

Throughout September, Abbé suggests traders closely monitor several on-chain and macro signals; notably, options market activity leading up to the September 27 expiry could offer valuable insights into positioning and sentiment.

Whether Bitcoin’s red month will turn green this year remains to be seen, but with thin liquidity, heightened volatility, and institutional buyers waiting in the wings, September may offer both risks and opportunities this year.

Who Shapes the Future of Bitcoin: Suit Coiner vs. Ordinary Level https://earlybirdsinvest.com/who-shapes-the-future-of-bitcoin-suit-coiner-vs-ordinary-level/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/who-shapes-the-future-of-bitcoin-suit-coiner-vs-ordinary-level/#respond Sat, 23 Aug 2025 08:13:47 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/who-shapes-the-future-of-bitcoin-suit-coiner-vs-ordinary-level/

The cultural tone of the entire ecosystem has changed wildly over the past few years. “Bitcoin maximalists” have essentially disappeared into the context in terms of having all sorts of cultural influences and influences.

The dominant narrative, real actions, and true influences are the Suit Coiner, the Suit Coiner who builds the exact same kind of degenerate leveraged financial products above the Bitcoin that caused the 2008 financial crisis, or the fully degenerate territory, completely dominated by a completely degenerate ranking.

It’s frankly embarrassing that things have reached this point in this field. All meaningful factors of growth and adoption draw people into a culture of brain dead suits and don’t fully understand the culture that uses them for the true value that Bitcoin offers, the resistance and decentralization of censorship, or the stupidest and most meaningless drivers you can imagine in a truly impactful way of using them.

But even so, we are.

These two oppositions and self-reinforced echo chambers dominate the stage. They lead new entrants into the ecosystem and run the largest booth. Yes, individuals can walk their own paths. Most people end up following suit cocker or digits.

In that political reality, I stand with a degree.

Everything they engage in is inert, moronic, meaningless imagination nonsense, but at least they understand and understand the resistance of censorship and the decentralization that creates it. They appreciate the value of self-management and tools that allow them to do what they want with their own money without having to ask someone else for permission.

Suit Coiner doesn’t understand these things. They don’t care about self-control. They believe that decentralization is either a mere magical buzzword or a characteristic set in granite, rather than a dynamic property that can flow in decline. They don’t care about the value that a non-censored currency network brings to society. They care about making dollars in the secure walled gardens of the legacy system.

Bitcoin begins to lose all properties that give everyone the opportunity to create a level and neutral arena if decentralization is eroded. Without them, it is nothing more than a rare asset trapped in a legacy walled garden. There is no money that is not permitted, nor native internet currency. However, new Stonk people buy like S&P index funds.

That’s the direction that takes us in case the suitcoiner is not checked or opposed. Therefore, I have to side with degree. Apart from actual appreciation and respect for censorship resistance, I may have nothing in common with them, but that is really important at the end of the day.

This article is a take. The opinions expressed are entirely the authors and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of BTC Inc or Bitcoin Magazine.

Google finally lets you customize icon shapes on your Pixel’s home screen https://earlybirdsinvest.com/google-finally-lets-you-customize-icon-shapes-on-your-pixels-home-screen/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/google-finally-lets-you-customize-icon-shapes-on-your-pixels-home-screen/#respond Thu, 21 Aug 2025 02:47:29 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/google-finally-lets-you-customize-icon-shapes-on-your-pixels-home-screen/
Photo of icon shape customization options on a Pixel phone

Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • You can now customize icon shapes on your Pixel Launcher’s home screen.
  • Android will give you five options. Including the default circle, there’s square, four-sided cookie, seven-sided cookie, and arch.
  • These options are currently only available in the August 2025 Android Canary release, but we expect it won’t be long before they make their way into the QPR2 track.

Hot off the heels of the Pixel 10 launch, Google unveiled a new Android Canary release. The August 2025 Android Canary update rolled out today to users enrolled in the Canary program, and it finally brings a long-awaited personalization option: the ability to customize icon shapes on the home screen. While the new version doesn’t let you create your own icon shape, it does let you choose from five delightful presets, one of which will definitely suit your fancy.

Don’t want to miss the best from Android Authority?

After installing the latest Canary release and opening the Wallpaper & Style app, developer Kieron Quinn noticed that the “Icons” menu had changed. Instead of only having a toggle to enable icon theming, the “Icons” menu now has several icon shape options. These include the default circle shape as well as new square, four-sided cookie, seven-sided cookie, and arch options.

Interestingly, the sixth “complex clover” shape that we spotted back in March is missing from this page. We’re not sure why that shape was removed, but perhaps it clashed too heavily with certain icons.

Another thing missing from this build is the new forced icon theming feature that Google added in Android 16 QPR2 Beta 1. It’s not clear why, but we suspect this is merely a quirk of the build date and release structure of the latest Canary versus the latest QPR beta. The next Canary release may add the forced theming feature, while the next QPR2 beta is likely to gain these new icon shape options, though nothing is guaranteed. We’ll keep an eye out on both release tracks to see what happens with this feature as well as Google’s other upcoming icon customization options.

Zcash Community Shapes the Future of Development Funding https://earlybirdsinvest.com/zcash-community-shapes-the-future-of-development-funding/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/zcash-community-shapes-the-future-of-development-funding/#respond Sat, 03 May 2025 04:56:02 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/zcash-community-shapes-the-future-of-development-funding/

The Zcash community has spoken. Recent polling results signal a clear path forward for the future of the Zcash Development Fund (Dev Fund). After a thorough and collaborative process, the community expressed strong support for continuing the Dev Fund under a model that balances funding decision-making power between coinholders and the broader community—and for making this a top priority ahead of other upcoming consensus changes.

This decision marks a pivotal moment for Zcash, reinforcing its commitment to decentralization, inclusivity, and resilience. As the current funding model approaches its expiration in November 2025, the next phase will focus on implementing a coinholder grant polling mechanism and preparing for a potential network upgrade to support the transition. Here’s a closer look at the journey so far, the results, and what comes next.

A Community-Driven Process

This consensus-building process began months ago, driven by a shared desire to align Zcash’s funding model with its core values of decentralization and community governance. Building on the success of the 2020 Dev Fund established through ZIP 1014 and the consensus reached in August of last year, the community sought to evolve the model further. The focus was on empowering both the community and ZEC coinholders to have a direct say in how funds are allocated.

The process was highly collaborative, involving multiple groups within the Zcash ecosystem to ensure a broad range of voices was heard. Independent surveys were distributed to members of ECC’s Zcash Ad Hoc Caucus (ZAC) and ZF’s Zcash Community Advisory Panel (ZCAP). The ZecHub DAO independently decided to poll its membership as well.

The community also leveraged a first-of-its-kind coinholder voting mechanism. This allowed ZEC holders to directly vote on their preferred funding proposals.

The process and options considered were discussed publicly on the Zcash Community Forum, providing full transparency of the ongoing dialogue.

The Polling Results: A Clear Mandate

The results of the polls were remarkably consistent. Across all four polls, one model emerged as the clear favorite: the Community and Coinholder Funding Model (C&C). This model proposes a balanced approach where both the community and ZEC coinholders have a say in funding allocation.

The strong support for prioritizing the Dev Fund extension across all four polls demonstrates the community’s recognition of the importance of sustainable funding for Zcash’s continued development, even if it means delaying NU7 (the next network upgrade).

What the Results Mean for Zcash

Taken together, the polling results affirm the community’s desire to extend the Dev Fund using a model that shares governance between coinholders and community members. The Community and Coinholder Funding Model (C&C) will serve as the basis for the next phase of Zcash’s development.

The strong support for prioritizing the Dev Fund extension also signals the community’s willingness to adapt timelines to ensure the new model is implemented thoughtfully. While NU7 may be postponed, the community is committed to enacting these changes on or before the current Dev Fund expires in November 2025.

Next Steps: Building a Decentralized Future

With the community’s mandate in hand, the Zcash ecosystem is now focused on the next steps to bring this vision to life. Key priorities include:

  • Developing the Coinholder Grant Polling Mechanism: Building on the success of the voting system used in this process, the community will formalize a mechanism for coinholders to participate in grant allocation decisions. This will ensure that ZEC holders have a direct voice in how funds are distributed.
  • Planning for a Network Upgrade: Implementing the new funding model will require changes to the Zcash protocol, necessitating a network upgrade. The community will develop a timeline to ensure this upgrade is completed on or before the November 2025 expiration of the current Dev Fund.
  • Continued Engagement: The Zcash Community Forum will remain a hub for ongoing discussions, ensuring transparency and inclusivity as the new model takes shape. Community members are encouraged to stay involved and share their perspectives.

A Milestone for Zcash

By coming together, the Zcash community has demonstrated its ability to navigate complex decisions while staying true to its values of decentralization and privacy.

As we look ahead, the Zcash ecosystem is poised to become more decentralized, inclusive, and resilient than ever. The new funding model will support the continued development of Zcash, helping it remain a best-in-class tool for protecting individual privacy, security, and human dignity in an increasingly chaotic digital world.

The work ahead is critical, but Zcash’s future is grounded in the unity and resolve of its community. Stay tuned for updates as we finalize the details of the new funding model and prepare for the next chapter in Zcash’s evolution. Together, we’re building the future of unstoppable private money.

Onward.

How Pleblab shapes the future of Austin’s Bitcoin startups https://earlybirdsinvest.com/how-pleblab-shapes-the-future-of-austins-bitcoin-startups/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/how-pleblab-shapes-the-future-of-austins-bitcoin-startups/#respond Wed, 26 Mar 2025 12:24:17 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/how-pleblab-shapes-the-future-of-austins-bitcoin-startups/

Born in the heart of Texas, Pleblab.dev is a well-known name for Bitcoin startups. Still, most people who have heard of this niche Bitcoin community in Austin probably don’t know their victory and influence.

Starting in 2021 by several Bitcoin enthusiasts as a coworking space for the capital factory, Pleblab has grown into a mecca for the US Bitcoin startup ecosystem. They hosted a variety of events and meetups throughout the year, making it a reliable work environment for Bitcoiners, whether they live in Austin or just go through.

“At the art school, we had this professor who created an hour, roamed and gave us honest feedback on each other’s work, creating a collaborative atmosphere where we could grow together. Car González, CEO of Pleblab, recalls. So when I took over Pleblab, I asked: “How do you make it more cooperative? Not just coworking, but how can you make it?” When you say coworking, it’s literally just working. How boring is it? That’s not interesting. ”

However, rather than just a “coworking” space, Pleblab has become a “community accelerator in the Bitcoin era” and has been experienced by several successful Bitcoin companies and developer celebrities since its inception.

Genesis

Founded from a dream of growing a community based on Bitcoin, Pleblab acquired its first office in 2021 at Capital Factory, Austin’s renowned tech coworking hub. In it, various entrepreneurs and Bitcoin developers began to stick and ask them to work with them from the capital factory.

Over time, Pleblab has grown into a variety of office locations. It is currently located next to Unchained Capital Offices and Bitcoin Park (formerly Bitcoin Commons) in downtown Austin (6th St. and Congress Ave.). With more space, talent and experience, Pleblab has transformed from a coworking space to a mix of hacker garages and startup incubators.

Today, they provide a wealth of resources to various membership packages, mentorships, and startups that participate in them, which can be denied membership depending on the goals and objectives of the project. It’s more like a private Bitcoin club for builders and technicians than anything else.

“I really think we’re an accelerator in the Bitcoin era. How to do it in open source, Cypherpunk’s way doesn’t give someone 500k on the first day and say, “You’ll make it or meet you later for three months.” To me, it sounds like it was in the Fiat era,” the car said.

Main Event

The main event held by Pleblab is Top Builder and Startup Day. It often takes place within six months of each other.

“Top builders are the top chefs of Bitcoin. They find the latest and best builders, stack them up and try to build something that can be MVP or pitched,” says Car, explaining events that work like a three-month hackathon and expose finalists to VCS and angel investors.

Meanwhile, Startup Day is a short meeting that provides a platform for Bitcoin startups to showcase their jobs, meet talent and get exposed in the Bitcoin world. In the words of the car, “It is intended to encourage people to build their own company from the bystanders. They will see themselves in the people talking on stage.”

judge it by the fruit

Various celebrities from the Bitcoin startup world spent time at Pleblab, and the car was very hesitant to trust other people’s jobs.

“Their journeys start with a handshake from the people they meet, and look at the numbers they have, and when they get to a point like base camp, raise, seed, or seed, they shake their journey,” the car said. “For me, that base camp is just ‘cool, they did it.’ Well, that’s what I love: shipping the code, we try to be a good steward. ”

Nevertheless, the track record is impressive. Here’s a quick overview of the famous Bitcoin projects, companies and developers closely related to Pleblab.

Jippi – Winners of Top Builder 2025

Headed by Oliver, Jippi.App is a beautiful and fun Bitcoin app designed with Gen Z in mind. Reflecting the success of Pokemon Go, Zippi invites young people to explore the city in search of Bitcoin beasts. Awaiting future owners with SAT rewards, charming little 3D creature hidden in augmented reality.

The app has been developed for over a year and won the first prize last week for fierce competition at Pleblab’s Top Builder Competition. Surprisingly to the judges and audience, Jippi has live, functional apps, street research and app testing at local universities. In addition to a stunning presentation of Jippi’s rationale and vision, the app could potentially go viral in the US.

Stacker.News

In 2021, one of Keyan Kousha, co-founder of Pleblab, Stacker.News, became the news hub for many tech-savvy Bitcoiners. Boasting Reddit with open source lightning, the platform has a strong, active, loyal fanbase that rewards each other with SAT with all the upvotes, and is often faster to integrate the latest technology into the Bitcoin social media technology scene.

Started by John McGill at the end of 2021, Zaprite quickly grew into the business’s full payment processing suite, supporting both Bitcoin and Lightning payment rails, settling in Fiat as merchants wanted, supporting event tickets and all the accounting and invoice tools needed by modern merchants.

Zaplite made recent history with Donald J. Trump, the interface used to pay for burgers along with Bitcoin at a Bitcoin Pub Key in New York.

Rebellion Wallet

Released in early 2023 and led by celebrity Bitcoin developers Ben Carman and Tony Giorgio, Mutiny Wallet quickly gained popularity among Lightning Power users as a completely distinctive, innovative Bitcoin app. It consistently integrates cutting-edge payment technology, including payments and Nost integration that e-cash has rejected, shaking the red and black color schemes of its signatures.

Following the arrest of the Samourai wallet developer and its resulting chilling effect on the development of Bitcoin’s independent wallet, Mutiny Wallet announced it would be the sunset of the project.

Nifty (Bitcoin++)

As a developer of Bitcoin and Lightning, Nifty has become famous for her developer education activities, bringing her world-renowned developer event called Bitcoin++, her relentless work ethic, her impressive travel schedule and of course, her charm, bringing together the Bitcoin developer community several times around the world.

Nifty has become a perceived and influential figure in the Bitcoin startup ecosystem, including seats on OpenSat boards. It is a public charity focused on funding all types of open source Bitcoin projects, with a special focus on Nostr – Bitcoin native social media protocols. On her journey to stardom, she spent quite a bit of time at Pleblab, but is still common at Austin Bitcoin events.

Speaking of which, Nifty’s next Bitcoin++ event will be diving deep into Bitcoin memory in Austin, Texas, May 7-9.

Super Test

SuperTestNet, an early member of Plelab and Bitcoin’s Austin scene, came out of nowhere in 2021 and quickly mastered the art of prototyping Bitcoin with JavaScript. He has since implemented cutting edge Bitcoin technology like BITVM, and has participated in the first Ark Mainnet pool, the only other non-circular Bitcoin Layer 2 scaling solution, and is an avid user of X and Nostr.

SuperTestNet’s many open source projects, their passion for Bitcoin, and their unwavering integrity, have given them quick recognition in the Bitcoin startup ecosystem, and perhaps quite a few mentions in the chronicles of Bitcoin’s history.

Cass Clot

Headed by Jim, an AI engineer and ruthless Bitcoin Maxi, CASCDR’s mission is to combine the power of AI and Bitcoin with a powerful privacy foundation and a complete suite of cool AI apps and workflows. His latest hit is upplthatupjamie.ai. AI is a podcast search engine that transcription of audio content, becomes searchable, and facilitates the creation of shareable podcast clips.

Sudden

Leading by Keith, Branta is a cybersecurity company that focuses on limiting mid-term attacks for Bitcoin payments, including malicious addresses and bill injections at merchant interfaces. Cultivated by Pleblab Accelerator, Branta has already successfully received a pre-seeding salary increase and was a top five finalist in the Top Builder Contest.

Tocker

Topher, his own well-known Bitcoin developer and a regular at Pleblab, has shipped a variety of open source Bitcoin tools, including Tapscript, Taproot, Schnorr Signatures, and libraries that manage Bitcoin transactions.

Above all, Topher and Austin (App Developer) are currently working on Frostr, the leading private digital identity management solution. Specifically, FroStr is built to solve the problem of Nostr, a Bitcoin Adjacent Social Network Protocol that is very popular among Bitcoin users. Rethinking “frost,” the new rising multi-signature standard for Bitcoin wallets, and using it to solve Nostr’s major rotation problems. It’s a bit of a tech project, but what I believe is very useful and I’ll soon be covering more in detail.

Christopher David, Open Agent

A veteran Bitcoin developer and entrepreneur, Christopher is currently working on an open agent. It is an AI platform with deep integration with the GIT process, shaking the aesthetics of dark cypherpunk and focusing on user privacy.

There are many more projects that have passed PLEBLAB during development or over the years. If you’re interested, you can find it on Pleblab.dev.

As a bonus, I’ll leave this cool to you Bitcoin Magazine I happened to find it on pleblab.
