Aave, the largest decentralized lending protocol, has proposed reducing its exposure to governance risks within the Ethereum layer-2 network, Scroll’s ecosystem.

The initiative, submitted on Sept. 11 by the Aave Chan Initiative (ACI), comes amid mounting instability in Scroll’s decentralized governance model.

The proposal outlines several defensive measures to protect Aave’s users and liquidity pools. These include raising the reserve factor for all listed assets to 90%, lowering supply caps to existing levels, and cutting borrowing caps for all borrowable assets.

According to ACI, these steps will help contain exposure to Scroll-based assets, reinforce protocol safety through conservative risk parameters, and ensure Aave can respond swiftly if governance disruptions escalate.

ACI pointed out that the proposal’s implementation will proceed through the Direct to AIP process, which allows for faster deployment of urgent changes.

Data from DeFiLlama shows that Aave currently holds about $6 million in total value locked (TVL) on Scroll, making it the chain with one of its smallest liquidity pools.

Scroll’s DAO issues

The urgency of Aave’s proposal stems from internal turmoil at Scroll’s decentralized autonomous organization (DAO). Scroll announced earlier in the day that it had halted new proposals within its DAO as part of a plan to redesign governance.

Scroll said the decision would allow experimentation with governance models emphasizing efficiency, effectiveness, and alignment. The team also stressed that the pause aims to safeguard stability in the short term while laying the groundwork for sustainable growth.

Meanwhile, Scroll stressed that proposals that have already been approved will proceed. However, fresh submissions will be paused until the new structure is introduced.

This move comes after leadership turbulence within the DAO. Olimpio, a Scroll delegate, confirmed that the DAO’s lead, known as Eugene, resigned earlier in the week.

According to Olimpio, this departure has left the community facing uncertainty, with several proposals now stalled. These include a treasury management initiative, the formation of a governance council, and a test of a DAO timelock mechanism.

YouTube is changing the way you scroll with its dynamic ‘Charts’ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/youtube-is-changing-the-way-you-scroll-with-its-dynamic-charts/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/youtube-is-changing-the-way-you-scroll-with-its-dynamic-charts/#respond Fri, 11 Jul 2025 16:03:47 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/youtube-is-changing-the-way-you-scroll-with-its-dynamic-charts/

What you need to know

  • YouTube says that it is replacing its single “Trending” page with a new “Charts” for specific content categories (e.g., Music, Podcasts, Movie Trailers, Gaming).
  • The change is believed to reflect how users currently discover trends via recommendations, search, and communities, moving away from one universal list.
  • Alongside the suggested move, new features claim to help creators understand audience consumption and promote their content, comprising personalized ideas and a “Hype” feature.

Discovering content on YouTube is going to change soon as the streaming platform is making noticeable changes in the coming weeks, the company announced.

The YouTube team has announced in the accompanying community page post that YouTube will be removing the popular Trending page alongside the Trending Now list. Users can now find “most popular content” in specific categories on the new YouTube Charts.

Up until now, and ever since Google launched the Trending page back in 2015, viewers would find what was actually trending — a singular list of viral videos. However, the company notes that it is supposedly changing and users are said to be learning about trends through their recommendations, search suggestions, comments, and communities, rather than the Trending page or Trending Now list. And, this seemed to be the case for the last five years.

“So, we’re making updates to better match how people discover trending content today by shifting away from one all-encompassing Trending list towards category-specific charts that we’ll continue to invest in over time,” the YouTube team stated in the aforementioned post.

So, technically, instead of finding all types of content in a single Trending page, YouTube is diversifying through a new Charts feature. It means users will be able to explore charts for “Trending Music Videos, Weekly Top Podcast Shows, and Trending Movie Trailers.”

The streaming platform is further assuring that more content categories to charts will be added over time. For instance, there will also be a Gaming Explore page for trending gaming videos.

Next to the new charts, users will also be able to see their personalized recommendations alongside non-personalized general content in the traditional Explore menu or through their subscription feed.

Helping Content Creators

Meanwhile, YouTube will also be helping creators to understand what’s being consumed by their audiences. Additionally, the “Inspiration” tab in YouTube Studio claims to give creators personalized ideas to help spot the “next big thing” for their channel.

And, to help the creators get their content a boost and get discovered, YouTube’s Hype feature comes into play. It is believed to let viewers “amplify fresh videos they love.” Also, artists on the rise will have a dedicated spot on the “Music Explore page.”

As mentioned, all these new YouTube Charts and features are supposedly taking effect in the coming weeks.

Layer-2 network, no longer have to depend on a central system to process their transactions.

This update, shared in an April 28 post on X, allows users to send and complete transactions on Ethereum even if the main operator goes offline or blocks them.

The change comes after Scroll introduced an upgrade called Euclid, which was approved by community vote in April.

With this new setup, the network moves into what is known as “Stage 1” of decentralization. This stage means that smart contracts control most operations, but a backup team still exists to help in emergencies.

Scroll also introduced a solution for handling larger or more complex transactions. These actions require special cryptographic proofs to be verified. If a proof is too large, it can slow down the process or fail.

Scroll worked with a project called Axiom to build a tool named OpenVM. This tool breaks large tasks into smaller parts that can be verified more easily. Rather than failing, these bigger tasks may just take a bit more time to complete.

Furthermore, any change to the network must first go through a vote. After that, there is a three-day delay before the update takes effect. This gives users the chance to leave the network if they do not agree with the new rules.

Recently, Tomasz Stańczak, a co-executive director at the Ethereum Foundation, shared the organization’s plans to improve the Ethereum network’s user experience and Layer 1 scalability. How? Read the full story.

Scroll co-founder argues taxing layer-2 networks is threat to Ethereum’s values https://earlybirdsinvest.com/scroll-co-founder-argues-taxing-layer-2-networks-is-threat-to-ethereums-values/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/scroll-co-founder-argues-taxing-layer-2-networks-is-threat-to-ethereums-values/#respond Wed, 02 Apr 2025 17:48:00 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/scroll-co-founder-argues-taxing-layer-2-networks-is-threat-to-ethereums-values/

Ye Zhang, the co-founder of Ethereum layer-2 network Scroll, has pushed back against calls for Ethereum to impose fees on layer-2 networks.

Zhang argued in a detailed social media post on April 2, that the proposal was harmful to Ethereum’s long-term vision. He called it a “toxic” approach that prioritizes short-term revenue over lasting ecosystem value.

According to Zhang, Ethereum’s strength lies not in extracting fees from rollups but in positioning ETH as the central asset across multiple Layer-2 (L2) ecosystems. He argued that taxing these networks mirrors corporate behavior and runs counter to the principles of decentralization that Ethereum stands for.

He emphasized that Ethereum’s value should not be measured by protocol income. Instead, the network should be considered an economic foundation for a growing rollup-centric ecosystem.

He noted:

“ETH’s real strength isn’t in protocol fees — it’s in becoming the hub asset across thousands of rollup ecosystems. That’s the future.”

Zhang explained that ETH’s advantage is its presence across major L2 platforms like Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, zkSync, and Scroll. Even on networks like StarkNet, that don’t use ETH for gas, he noted that the digital asset remains a key trading pair on decentralized exchanges.

Ethereum’s future

Considering this, Zhang outlined two possible directions for Ethereum. In one scenario, ETH evolves into a trusted store of value and a central hub for rollup activity.

According to Zhang:

“Every aligned L2 expands Ethereum’s surface area and social consensus. A thousand scalable rollups with ETH as the center > any monolithic chain.”

On the other hand, Ethereum could become focused on taxing L2 activity, which could drive them toward alternative data availability layers and reduce ETH’s influence in the broader blockchain landscape.

To avoid this, Zhang urged the community to focus on scaling execution and improving data availability infrastructure.

He called for a 1000x improvement in blob capacity and encouraged building out shared tools like cross-rollup liquidity bridges and interoperability solutions.

Zhang concluded:

“ETH wins by being the gravity, not the toll booth.”
