Samsung Galaxy Flip 7 with Gemini app open on cover screen

TL;DR

  • Gemini could be getting a refreshed home screen, as we’ve also seen before.
  • Google has begun testing it with a small set of users using the latest beta version of the Google app.
  • Google is also testing suggestions for queries based on your Google activity, although this is currently in the early stages of testing.

Update, September 15, 2025 (10:10 AM ET): Gemini’s new landing screen, plus the new options button, is now rolling out to users in the stable branch.

Original article, September 9, 2025 (09:36 AM ET): For a few past months, Google has been testing visual changes to Gemini’s home screen. One of those changes, seemingly inspired by ChatGPT, is on the verge of becoming more widely available. We recently spotted Google testing this new home screen interface along with some other changes.

While poking around the version 16.35.63 beta of the Google app, we discovered new home screen layouts for Gemini. The first one, which we have also seen before, places big shortcut buttons right in the center of the screen, just like ChatGPT. In its current form, these shortcuts are located in the input box at the bottom of the screen. Google now appears to be moving forward with this interface, and we found it being tested on one of our devices without any internal tweaks.

These options are also visible by tapping the new options button, which is placed alongside the existing (+) icon used for uploading files.

Besides this ChatGPT-inspired tweak, Google is testing a new, quicker prompts to interact with Gemini. With some tweaking, we enabled a new home screen view that puts suggestions in the center of Gemini’s homepage.

These suggestions appear to be inspired by usage history from the Google account. However, since it’s still under testing, we are unsure whether this feature will be retained or changed in the upcoming updates.

Don’t want to miss the best from Android Authority?

Besides changes to Gemini’s home screen, Google is also testing a slightly changed interface for apps linked with Gemini. The under-testing interface clears out unnecessary information from the top half for a cleaner look.

Like the suggestions, this new interface for apps has also been activated with under-the-hood tweaking and will not be immediately visible to all. Therefore, we cannot comment on wider availability and will wait for more cues or an update from Google.

⚠ An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release.

Retail Trading Giant Robinhood Rolling Out Micro Futures for Bitcoin, Solana and XRP https://earlybirdsinvest.com/retail-trading-giant-robinhood-rolling-out-micro-futures-for-bitcoin-solana-and-xrp/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/retail-trading-giant-robinhood-rolling-out-micro-futures-for-bitcoin-solana-and-xrp/#respond Sun, 29 Jun 2025 00:43:08 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/retail-trading-giant-robinhood-rolling-out-micro-futures-for-bitcoin-solana-and-xrp/

The retail trading giant Robinhood is launching new micro futures for a trio of popular digital assets.

In a new thread on the social media platform X, Robinhood says that it’s rolling out micro futures for crypto king Bitcoin (BTC), smart contract platform Solana (SOL), and payments blockchain token XRP starting June 27th.

“New crypto futures are now on Robinhood. Trade micro XRP, Solana, and Bitcoin Friday futures with lower margin requirements and seamless execution with our trading ladder.”

Robinhood initially launched futures products in January 2025, at first only offering Bitcoin and Ethereum (ETH)-based assets in terms of crypto.

In April, derivatives marketplace giant CME Group announced that it would be launching XRP-based futures over Robinhood, citing investor demand.

As stated by JB Mackenzie, vice president and general manager of futures and international at Robinhood, at the time,

“Bringing CME Group XRP futures to Robinhood is a natural next step in our mission to expand retail access to futures trading. Our customers have shown a deep interest in digital assets, and they will soon be able to access an even wider variety of crypto futures to complement Robinhood’s existing spot crypto offerings.”

In May, Robinhood acquired WonderFi, a Canadian crypto firm backed by Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary, also known as Mr. Wonderful, for about $179 million.

Furthermore, Robinhood closed its biggest acquisition yet earlier this month as it purchased the Luxembourg-based crypto exchange platform Bitstamp for about $200 million, boosting the firm’s expansion overseas.

BTC, SOL and XRP are trading for $106,851, $141.35  and $2.09 at time of writing, respectively.

Windows 11’s Recall AI is now rolling out on Copilot+ PCs https://earlybirdsinvest.com/windows-11s-recall-ai-is-now-rolling-out-on-copilot-pcs/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/windows-11s-recall-ai-is-now-rolling-out-on-copilot-pcs/#respond Sat, 26 Apr 2025 21:50:47 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/windows-11s-recall-ai-is-now-rolling-out-on-copilot-pcs/

Windows Recall

Microsoft has confirmed that Windows Recall is rolling out to everyone with Windows 11 KB5055627 on Copilot+ PCs.

Recall is an AI-powered feature that captures your screen, so you can quickly find and jump back into what you have seen before on your PC.

As Microsoft describes, you can use Recall to “recall” the moment you saw on your PC.

For example, if you were working on a PowerPoint presentation on financial operations, but you don’t remember the name of the .ppt, you can use everyday language to describe the file, and Recall will find it for you.

Recall is able to find a photo, link, or message because it sees everything you can see on the screen.

Recall is shipping after nearly a year of announcement

Recall was originally announced in May 2024 as the flagship feature of Windows 11 and Snapdragon-powered “AI” PCs.

At that time, Microsoft touted Recall as one of the best use cases of AI on Windows 11, but security researchers noted that Recall is a privacy nightmare that captures your passwords and stores them in plain text.

Microsoft pulled back Recall AI and promised to address the privacy and security concerns by testing it with Windows Insiders.

The company also made Recall completely optional and upgraded the model to filter out passwords or other sensitive information.

After nearly one year of delay, Recall is now included in Windows 11 Build 26100 for PCs with Snapdragon Copilot+ PCs.

Recall will begin rolling out to everyone with the May 2025 Patch Tuesday Update.

Loss of Pulse Detection is finally rolling out to Pixel Watch 3 users in the US https://earlybirdsinvest.com/loss-of-pulse-detection-is-finally-rolling-out-to-pixel-watch-3-users-in-the-us/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/loss-of-pulse-detection-is-finally-rolling-out-to-pixel-watch-3-users-in-the-us/#respond Tue, 08 Apr 2025 22:51:04 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/loss-of-pulse-detection-is-finally-rolling-out-to-pixel-watch-3-users-in-the-us/

What you need to know

  • Google is rolling out Loss of Pulse Detection to Pixel Watch 3 owners in the U.S. starting today.
  • The feature, which is opt-in, will automatically check if your pulse is detected and call emergency services if it can’t be found.
  • This life-saving tool will take a couple of weeks to become available for all Pixel Watch 3 users.

Google is now rolling out Loss of Pulse Detection, a new safety feature for the Pixel Watch 3, to U.S. users. The feature was originally marketed as a Pixel Watch 3 feature last year, and became available in other regions, but required FDA approval before it could work in the U.S.

Google earned that approval in February 2025, and Loss of Pulse Detection will become available in the country starting today, with a full rollout lasting a few weeks.

After earning FDA approval, the company announced Loss of Pulse Detection for U.S. users as part of the March Pixel Feature Drop. Originally, Google said it would “begin rolling it out in the U.S. at the end of March.” That deadline passed, but now the feature is shipping as of April 8, 2025.

Loss of Pulse Detection is a critical safety feature that Google explains can “detect when you’ve experienced a loss of pulse” and “automatically prompt a call to emergency services for potentially life-saving care if you’re unresponsive.” It adds a new element to Emergency SOS, which can be used to call emergency services quickly from your smartwatch.

Loss of Pulse Detection is opt-in, so you’ll need to manually enable it when the feature becomes available on your device. To do so, open the Google Pixel Watch app on your phone and tap Safety and Emergency. Then, press Loss of Pulse Detection, and follow the on-screen prompts to enable the safety tool. After that, the feature will monitor your heart rate and try to detect when and if your pulse can’t be found.

Prior to launching in the U.S., Loss of Pulse Detection has been available in 14 countries. The feature first arrived on Pixel Watch 3 for users in the EU last year.

It’s rolling out starting today, but may take “a couple” of weeks before it arrives on all U.S. Pixel Watch 3 devices. The announcement comes as Google releases the April 2025 update for all Pixel Watch models.

Cathie Wood Says US Economy in Last Leg of ‘Rolling Recession’ Before Massive Productivity Boost https://earlybirdsinvest.com/cathie-wood-says-us-economy-in-last-leg-of-rolling-recession-before-massive-productivity-boost/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/cathie-wood-says-us-economy-in-last-leg-of-rolling-recession-before-massive-productivity-boost/#respond Wed, 12 Mar 2025 13:00:27 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/cathie-wood-says-us-economy-in-last-leg-of-rolling-recession-before-massive-productivity-boost/

ARK Invest’s Cathie Wood is predicting that recessionary pressures will soon end, setting the US economy up for a massive economic boom in the second half of 2025.

Wood tells her 1.7 million followers on the social media platform X that the US economy is currently experiencing the final stages of a rolling recession, setting the country up for a bullish phase.

A rolling recession is an economic term used to describe the phenomenon of different sectors of an economy experiencing contractions and recoveries at different times, preventing a full-blown recession.

“In our view, the market today is discounting the last leg of a rolling recession, which will give the Trump administration and the [Jerome] Powell Fed many more degrees of freedom than investors expect, setting up the US economy for a deflationary boom in the second half of this year.”

She also says during a new interview with Pomp Investments founder Anthony Pompliano at the Bitcoin Investor Week in New York that if US Congress adopts an expected tax cut plan, it could help reduce market uncertainty and unleash economic productivity.

“If we said we’re taking your tax rates down, choose a percentage, three percentage points, retroactive if they did this very soon to February 1 or March 1, let’s say, and they finish the negotiation that would take the uncertainty away. That would take that very important uncertainty away. And honestly, I think we will have a booming economy with much lower than expected inflation…

After we’ve been through this rolling recession and now here’s the last leg of it, where housing, autos, capital spending, small businesses were creamed, lower income creamed, finally, high income cracking, we’re ready for a massive productivity increase…

Productivity increases and a rising dollar are two of the biggest antidotes to inflation. And I think we’re going to be shocked at how low inflation goes.”

Arthur Hayes Floats the Idea of Rolling Back Ethereum Network to Negate $1.4B Bybit Hack, Drawing Community Ire https://earlybirdsinvest.com/arthur-hayes-floats-the-idea-of-rolling-back-ethereum-network-to-negate-1-4b-bybit-hack-drawing-community-ire/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/arthur-hayes-floats-the-idea-of-rolling-back-ethereum-network-to-negate-1-4b-bybit-hack-drawing-community-ire/#respond Sun, 23 Feb 2025 19:43:00 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/arthur-hayes-floats-the-idea-of-rolling-back-ethereum-network-to-negate-1-4b-bybit-hack-drawing-community-ire/

CORRECTION (Feb. 22, 19:16 UTC): Reworks the story throughout to clarify and include more context of the so-called “rollback” and the criticism around it. Also removed the percentage of ETH held by hackers in 2016).

Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX and major ether (ETH) holder, asked Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin if he would be willing to entertain the idea of rolling back the network to assist hacked exchange Bybit, which lost nearly $1.4 billion in ether (ETH) on Friday.

“@VitalikButerin will you advocate to roll back the chain to help @Bybit_Official,” Hayes said in the social media post.

“My own view as a mega $ETH bag holder is $ETH stopped being money in 2016 after the DAO hack hardfork. If the community wanted to do it again, I would support it because we already voted no on immutability in 2016 [wh]y not do it again?” he added

Buterin was yet to reply as of time of publication.

While some, including Unchained’s Laura Shin, wondered if Hayes’s post was a joke, it did raise a serious question about whether rolling back is even feasible. CoinDesk reached out to Hayes about the post and hasn’t received a comment at the time of writing.

“I wish we could roll back for the Bybit hack, I’m not against the idea. But the DAO hack was 15% of ETH with a clean recovery path. Today, a rollback would break bridges, stablecoins, L2s, RWAs and so much more. ETH ecosystem is just too interconnected now for a clean solution like 2016,” said Gautham Santhosh, co-founder of Polynomial.fi.

The problem with “rollback”

Hayes’ suggestions of rolling back the blockchain as one of the potential ways to address hacking involves reverting the blockchain to a state before a specific event, in this case, the hack. That way, malicious transactions resulting from the hack can be erased, effectively restoring lost or stolen funds. Implementing a rollback requires consensus from the network participants.

For instance, in 2016, the Ethereum network saw a controversial revision of the network using a hard fork to reverse a theft of $60 million in ether from The DAO (the percentage the hackers took control of is still up for debate). The hard fork split the chain into two – Ethereum and Ethereum Classic.

However, the term “rollback” was never used during that revision; it was referred to as an “irregular state transition.” The move still triggered huge and important debates over so-called “immutability” in blockchains.

Immutability is a security feature that prevents data from being changed after it’s added to the blockchain, making it trustworthy and tamper-proof.

A similar controversy played out in the Bitcoin community in 2019 when Binance’s CEO Changpeng Zhao and his team considered pushing for a “rollback” approach (the term was later rephrased by CZ as “re-org” and decided not to pursue the approach) on the Bitcoin network following a $40 million hack. However, the Bitcoin mining community criticized the idea of going back against the principle of decentralization and immutability.

Similarly, the Ethereum community criticized the idea of “rollback” in this case, noting that the idea wouldn’t even have been considered by the community.

Theoretically, an actual “rollback” won’t be possible on Ethereum, as the network uses something called “accounts” to store the ether, which can be analogous to bank accounts. When the 2016 hack occurred, the nodes upgraded to new software, and the ETH held was moved to new addresses.

However, the idea of reversing a transaction in light of a hack isn’t a new one; at least one smaller blockchain network, Vericoin, actually executed such a procedure previously.

The Bybit hack came into light on Friday when on-chain sleuth ZachXBT noted suspicious outflows of over $1.4 billion from the exchange, with the attacker quickly swapping mETH and stETH for ether through a decentralized exchange.

The hackers were later identified by ZachXBT as the North Korean Lazarus Group.

The attacker then split 10,000 ETH to 39 different addresses and another 10,000 ETH to nine addresses, Polynomial.fi’s Santhosh said on X.

Bybit CEO Ben Zhou said that the hacker “took control of the specific ETH cold wallet and transferred all the ETH in the cold wallet to this unidentified address.” Zhou confirmed that the exchange “is solvent even if this hack loss is not recovered.”

Margaux Nijkerk contributed to the revised story.
