BIS: Stablecoins Are Not Fit to Replace Traditional Currency https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bis-stablecoins-are-not-fit-to-replace-traditional-currency/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bis-stablecoins-are-not-fit-to-replace-traditional-currency/#respond Thu, 26 Jun 2025 06:28:14 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bis-stablecoins-are-not-fit-to-replace-traditional-currency/

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) has published a new report arguing that stablecoins are not suitable to act as real money in today’s financial system.

The report, published on June 24, stated that these digital tokens do not meet the basic qualities expected from a national currency.

According to the BIS, money should be used uniformly everywhere, be flexible enough to respond to changes in demand, and be protected from misuse.

First, the BIS said stablecoins fall short on “singleness”, which means they do not always keep a fixed value. Unlike central bank money, which is accepted at the same rate by everyone, stablecoins often trade above or below their stated value.

Next is the issue of “elasticity”, or how easy it is to adjust the supply of money when needed. The BIS explained that stablecoins cannot grow as quickly as demand requires. New tokens can only be created when users first pay for them in full.

The report also mentioned “integrity” as another issue. Many stablecoins, especially those used through unhosted wallets on public blockchains, are vulnerable to misuse. They pose a higher risk for illegal activity, such as money laundering or avoiding sanctions, because they can be used without identity checks.

Furthermore, the report warned that allowing stablecoins to grow without strict regulations could repeat past financial mistakes. The BIS called on central banks and regulators to step in and guide the system in a safer direction.

Meanwhile, the Bank of Korea (BOK) called for a slow and controlled introduction of stablecoins in the country. What did it say? Read the full story.

Why Netflix Should Replace Tesla in the "Magnificent Seven" https://earlybirdsinvest.com/why-netflix-should-replace-tesla-in-the-magnificent-seven/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/why-netflix-should-replace-tesla-in-the-magnificent-seven/#respond Sun, 15 Jun 2025 04:36:59 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/why-netflix-should-replace-tesla-in-the-magnificent-seven/

Looking back over the past decade and beyond, I don’t think there are many folks out there who would deny just how impressive Tesla‘s success has been. This innovative business, led by polarizing CEO Elon Musk, disrupted the global auto industry with its electric vehicles (EVs).

While the EV stock trades 32% below its peak (as of June 10), that’s still a gain of 1,810% in the past 10 years. That long-term performance made it one of the world’s largest tech companies, which is why Bank of America analyst Michael Hartnett gave it a spot in the “Magnificent Seven” when he introduced the idea of the group in 2023. However, I think it’s time to swap the EV maker out of this unofficial grouping and replace it with the more-deserving Netflix (NFLX -0.24%).

Tesla’s struggles are hard to ignore

Over the years, Tesla shareholders grew used to seeing the company register jaw-dropping sales growth. The picture isn’t so rosy anymore, though. Its automotive revenue declined 20% year over year in Q1. In 2024, it reported its first-ever year-over-year drop in deliveries. And the company’s profitability has continued to slide as higher interest rates and a more competitive environment have put downward pressure on demand for its vehicles.

Musk’s push in the political arena might at first have been viewed positively by some investors, as he was positioning himself to have more influence in Washington, D.C., which could have benefited Tesla from a regulatory perspective. But both his time in President Donald Trump’s inner circle and his more recent exit from politics, as well as his highly public spat with Trump, have been huge distractions that have certainly damaged Tesla’s brand instead.

It’s safe to say that a company that was once in the fast lane is now stuck in traffic. Tesla will have a lot of work to do in order to get back to its prior glory.

Netflix just keeps winning

While Tesla faces a battle to get itself back on track, Netflix continues to flourish. The streaming stock is up 1,200% in the last decade. The company added 41 million net new customers in 2024, bringing its total to nearly 302 million at year’s end. While Netflix chose to stop publicly reporting the number of subscribers it has starting this year, it did increase revenue by 12.5% year over year in the first quarter.

It might seem like this streaming platform has saturated its market. However, co-CEO Greg Peters believes there are still “hundreds of millions of folks to sign up.” By continuing to focus on creating compelling content offerings all over the world, Netflix is in a position to keep its expansion going. Wall Street’s consensus analyst estimates are for its revenue to rise at a compound annual rate of 12.3% between 2024 and 2027.

The streaming industry, like the automotive market, is extremely competitive. Netflix co-founder and former CEO Reed Hastings previously said that he counts sleep among the company’s key competitors. I don’t believe this was a stretch. Netflix goes up against all the other activities consumers can do when it’s time to wind down and relax.

But to be more specific, people have an almost unlimited number of viewing options at their fingertips today. Netflix is in the lead, though. Data from Nielsen shows that Netflix commanded 7.5% of video viewing time in the U.S. in April, only behind YouTube, which isn’t necessarily an apples-to-apples comparison due to the latter largely featuring user-generated content.

With its massive subscriber base, and trailing 12-month revenue of $40 billion, Netflix has the financial strength to spend a lot on content and marketing. And it’s still able to bring in billions in free cash flow each year.

It’s important to highlight that the “Magnificent Seven” is not an official index like the S&P 500 is. However, with each passing quarter, Netflix continues to make the case that it deserves to be mentioned with the tech giants in that group. Given the streaming pioneer’s ongoing success, it belongs in that exclusive club instead of Tesla.

Neil Patel has no position in any of the stocks mentioned. The Motley Fool has positions in and recommends Netflix and Tesla. The Motley Fool has a disclosure policy.

Chart Decoder Series: Bollinger Bands – How to Replace Volatility Like a Pro

Welcome to the Chart Decoder series. Here we analyze the technical charting tools provided by Bitfinex.

So far, we’ve explained:

Next, let’s dive in Bollinger Banda flexible tool that helps traders read volatility and find extreme prices.

What is a Bollinger Band?

The Bollinger Band consists of three lines.

  • Middle band: Simple moving average (SMA) for 20 periods
  • Upper band:SMA + 2 standard deviation
  • The lower band:SMA – 2 standard deviations

They grow and contract based on market volatility.

When the band is far away: high volatility
When they get tight: low volatility (and often there’s a big move)

How to use:

  • Prices exceed the upper band
This often indicates the terms of purchase. Short-term pullbacks or inversions may continue, but strong momentum can further drive profits.
  • Prices fall below the lower band
This could indicate a sold out condition. Bounce is possible, but it is best to check with additional indicators such as RSI and volume.
  • Prices move closely along the upper band
Known as “Walking the Band,” this usually reflects a strong trend. It can last, but traders need to closely monitor momentum.
  • The band is signed largely
The pressure suggests that the market is in a low volatility stage. These periods often precede sharp breakouts in either direction.
  • The band begins to expand
Indicates an increase in volatility. The market may be moving into a more active phase due to larger price fluctuations.

Examples of behavior:

Break down what appears on Bitfinex’s 1 hour BTC/USD chart and use Bollinger Bands (BB 20, 2) as the main indicator.

  • Current price: 105100
  • Middle Bollinger Band (20 SMA): 104978
  • Upper band: 105619
  • Lower Band: 104337

In this example, the BTC sits just above the middle band, showing tentative signs of strength. This is often a neutral to fierce zone, with prices deciding whether you want to move for a while or hang out sideways.

What’s interesting is that there was a Bollinger band. Wideerreflecting some sharp movements (clearly visible in recent dips and spikes). But now they are Start a contractsuggests that there may be a market in it Integration phase.

What could happen next?

  1. A bullish scenario:
When you see the BTC can hold on top of the central band and some powerful candles push high, Upper band (~105619) It’s highly likely. A clean break above can indicate an incoming breakout (look at the volume). If prices rise without strong participation, it could just be a fake.
  2. Bearish scenario:
If BTC slides back under the central band and picks up a red candle with volume, you can revisit Lower Band (~104337) immediately. This keeps BTC on a short-term downtrend channel.
  3. Lateral drift:
Most likely scenario for now: integration. A slight tightening of the band suggests a reduced volatility. This means that while the trader is waiting for a macro catalyst, BTC can only extend between the middle/lower bands.

Bollinger Bands work best when used Confirmation indicator. If you’re serious about taking a more confident catching breakouts and reversals, try combining this as follows:

  • rsi Check for excessive purchases/overselling
  • volume For verification of strength
  • Candlestick pattern Near the band of the entry signal

BTC/USD update with RSI + Bollinger Band

Current RSI (14): 51.47

This makes us right Neutral Zone Between overbuying (70) and overselling (30). There’s no clear momentum yet…

  • The RSI has been slowly climbing from its recent lows and has broken over 50.
  • This can be seen sometimes Short-term momentum shiftthe bear has lost control and the bull is intervening carefully.

Now, the chart says: From neutral to hope. The BTC has been raging from recent lows, and the RSI has been fine-tuned towards bullish territory. A game that is still waiting.

Pro tips:

  • use Bollinger Band with RSI or MACD Check the signal
  • Do not assume all touch=inversion in the band. Context is important
  • Bollinger Band’s “Squeeze” followed by a powerful movement
  • Please be careful Price – Band divergence. This is when prices start to rise again, but the band is not expanding. This means that the trend may be losing strength and a reversal or slowing may be approaching.

Try Bollinger Bands with Bitfinex:

  1. Log in to Bitfinex
  2. Open the trading pair chart
  3. Add a Bollinger Band from the indicator menu
  4. Look for a price that will break the band, a tight squeeze, or a strong trend “walking band”

the photo editor feature selected in the canva smartphone app

Megan Ellis / Android Authority

I’ve been using Canva for years, mostly for simple designs. So when I saw that Canva had rolled out a new photo editing tool, which is more advanced that the simple tweaks you can make in a design, I was interested in trying it out.

I stumbled across a useful feature that’s not in my favorite photo-editing app Snapseed, so I wondered if Canva could actually replace the free app’s place in my workflow. I tried out the Canva app’s new tool to see just how effective it would be at replacing Snapseed, and whether many of its features were locked behind a paywall.

What is the most important feature in a photo editor?

My favorite Canva photo editor feature is one Snapseed doesn’t have

a smartphone showing the Canva app's selection of the background of an image

Megan Ellis / Android Authority

I don’t bother with generative AI on my smartphone, but there is one AI feature I enjoy when it comes to image editing: background selection and removal. I love Snapseed and its selective editing tools, but I sometimes wish I could just select the background or foreground with one click.

When I tried out Canva’s new photo editor for the first time, I was excited to find that it had these automatic selection tools. Not only were they available for free, but they were also really accurate. Snapseed doesn’t have this type of automatic selection, while I’ve found Google Photos’ editing tools to not be as accurate as I would like when blurring the background.

When I tried out Canva’s new photo editor for the first time, I was excited to find that it had auto-select tools.

I’ve found that I’ve had to edit photos less in general as camera smartphones have advanced, especially now that I’m trying out the vivo X200 Pro. But when it comes to photos that I use for the websites I work for, I sometimes wish the background would be more out-of-focus. The X200 Pro is pretty capable at adjusting the focus to hone in on the subject of the photo, but since I’m usually handling two phones at the same time for an image, I sometimes struggle to get the camera to focus correctly.

That’s what made me really interested in Canva’s photo editor and after trying it out, I was really impressed by the selection accuracy. Not only can I use it to reduce the sharpness of the background, but I can adjust other aspects like the contrast and saturation. This opens up a whole realm of creative possibilities. Snapseed does have a lens blur feature, but this applies more of a vignette and blur around the edges rather than making the foreground stand out from the background.

However, if you want to generate a new background or remove the background, you will need to subscribe to Canva’s premium plan.

Could Canva replicate the best Snapseed features?

editing a photo of a cat in the canva app

Megan Ellis / Android Authority

With my curiosity officially piqued, I decided to explore other features in Canva’s photo editor to see if it could excel in the same areas as Snapseed. Just like Snapseed, Canva allows you to edit a range of image attributes. This includes brightness, highlights, shadows, temperature, and sharpness.

Just like Snapseed, Canva allows you to edit a range of image attributes.

I prefer having these types of fine-tuned controls, since they’re simple enough for a beginner to get to grips with without being as overwhelming as curve editing. At the same time, Canva also has plenty of preset effects and filters that make editing a breeze for those who prefer one-tap editing.

That said, Canva does lack some of the more advanced features of Snapseed, like adjusting color curves. But this isn’t a feature that I use in Snapseed anyway, so its absence in Canva isn’t an issue. You can also do a color edit in Canva, which I think is a bit easier to use than adjusting a curve.

I also like that Canva has a brush editor, so you can specifically select areas that you want to fine-tune. I find this useful for selecting parts of an object to highlight, or reducing the presence of shadows.

Canva fails in one key area

duplicate images in the canva uploads folder

Megan Ellis / Android Authority

With everything that works in Canva’s favor, there’s a major caveat — since Canva is primarily used through the web platform, its mobile app isn’t as optimized it should be. Don’t get me wrong, Canva’s Android app has significantly improved over the years. There was a time I refused to use it, but this aversion isn’t as strong as it used to be.

That said, I still found the usability of the app to be lacking. Sometimes bugs would prevent my touch input from registering. Meanwhile, pressing the back button on my smartphone often exits the app rather than simply exiting a feature within the photo editor.

I found the usability of the app to be lacking.

Another thing I dislike about the app is that even if it has access to your camera roll, it will re-upload an image you select to edit. This meant that when I accidentally exited the app by pressing the back button, then selected the photo I wanted to edit, it would re-upload the photo again. I had to learn to go to my Projects tab, then the Uploads folder, to edit an image I had uploaded.

The editing workflow is a bit more intuitive in the Canva web app, but I would say that it still needs some improvements — such as making it much easier to access existing uploads.

Canva will be my go-to editor for PC

After trying Canva’s photo editor, I’ve decided to use it when editing photos on my PC. Since Snapseed doesn’t have a desktop version anymore, this means that it’s not replacing the app’s place in my workflow, but rather complementing it.

It works out well for me because when I adjust the images I use for websites, I prefer to edit them on my PC rather than my smartphone. But Canva’s mobile app quirks means that I won’t be using it to edit my social media photos on my smartphone. For that purpose, I’ll be sticking with Snapseed, which I still consider one of the best photo editor apps for Android.

Bitcoin will replace gold at $1,000,000, says Mike Novogratz, CEO of Galaxy Digital https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-will-replace-gold-at-1000000-says-mike-novogratz-ceo-of-galaxy-digital/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-will-replace-gold-at-1000000-says-mike-novogratz-ceo-of-galaxy-digital/#respond Fri, 13 Jun 2025 11:01:06 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-will-replace-gold-at-1000000-says-mike-novogratz-ceo-of-galaxy-digital/

Today, Galaxy Digital CEO Mike Novogratz told CNBC that Bitcoin is on the road to exchange money and could ultimately reach $1,000,000.

“Bitcoin has become a macro asset,” Novograts said. “And some of the great things are that most people have it on the screen next to gold and silver and S&P. And you remember ten years ago when people thought we were crazy. And now it’s an institutionalized macro asset… it’s just institutionalized.”

He emphasized that Bitcoin is no longer a fringe investment, but is part of the mainstream financial environment. He noted that the volatility is now considered normal compared to traditional assets.

“We’re in the Dolbear market. For the past 15 years, American exceptionalism has been a story. Europeans are broadly overweight, Asians are broadly overweight in US stocks, and we’re pretty clear about it,” he said. “Even the way Trump negotiates. And we can debate whether it’s been successful or not, but by telling people that they want Canada to be the 51st state and that they’re coming here to kiss his rear end, they don’t say, ‘Oh, I want to buy more dollars.’ ”

According to Novogratz, this global shift is pushing investors into non-dollar assets, including Bitcoin.

“I think most macro funds have had a great year,” he said. “They have short dollars, the euros are long, they are long yen, they are long Australians, long baskets of currencies.

He also pointed out the fixed supply of Bitcoin as a key factor in its increasing value.

“We don’t have Bitcoin anymore,” he said. “What’s unique about Bitcoin as an asset is that it was created with a total of 21 million coins. Period. End of the story. Nothing more. But not all of them were mined. Not my point. Most of them were lost.

Novograts believes that a wave of institutional involvement, including companies like BlackRock, solidifies the role of Bitcoin as a savings asset.

“The bull case will slowly replace gold with Bitcoin over time. So, when you look at the market capitalization of gold and the market capitalization of Bitcoin, Bitcoin has a long way to go.

Solana (SOL) has come under renewed pressure, with its price dipping to $152.70 today as the broader market pulls back across major altcoins.

This marks a rough couple of weeks for SOL, now down 11.5% over seven days and 15% over a fortnight, despite holding a 6% gain over the past month.

The downturn comes as Solana-based launchpad Pump.fun is rumored to be raising funds for a potential token launch — a move that could shift some investor focus away from SOL.

If momentum continues to shift, it may weigh further on SOL in the short term, although a longer-term rebound remains likely — as explored in our latest Solana price prediction.

Solana Price Prediction: Will Pump.fun’s Token Replace SOL?

Pump.fun hasn’t actually confirmed the launch of its own token, yet reports from sources familiar with the matter suggest that the launch is coming soon.

It’s reportedly aiming to raise $1 billion via a sale to public and private investors, which would give the token a market cap of $4 billion.

Other details, such as features or utility, are scarce at the moment, with Pump.fun refusing to comment to media breaking the story.

And on Crypto Twitter, the potential launch has met with considerable skepticism, with some critics claiming that the move is an “exit scam” aimed at profiting from Pump.fun’s brand before its launchpad becomes irrelevant.

Some observers have pointed to falling revenues on Pump.fun, amid a decline in meme coin trading activity, suggesting that the platform’s operators want one last payday.

Of course, we’ll have to see how this pans out, but for now the impact on the Solana price is more negative in the short term.

Looking at its chart today, we see that the next few days could actually be pretty rough for the altcoin, given the turn its indicators have taken.

Its 30-day average (orange), for example, has just dropped below the 200-day (blue) again, forming a ‘death cross’ that can indicate incoming dumps.

And its relative strength index (purple) has just dropped below 40, with its trajectory suggesting that it could slide all the way to 30, if not 20.

Solana price chart.

We may therefore see the Solana price drop a little further in the coming days, potentially sinking as low $145 or $140 before correcting upwards.

But given Solana’s fundamentals, it will recover strongly in the medium- and long-term, likely hitting $200 again in July.

High-Potential New Altcoin Gains Momentum Before Exchange Listing

If Solana looks a little too uncertain for some traders, they may want to allocate a portion of their portfolios to newer, smaller cap tokens, since these can often outpace the market.

Picking a new token that’s likely to take off can be extremely difficult, of course, but one way of honing in on potential winners is to look for successful presales.

These can indicate strong market interest in an upcoming coin, with one of the biggest presales of the past year or so belonging to layer-two token Solaxy (SOLX).

Solaxy has now raised $44.3 million in its presale, a hugely significant sum that speaks to the growing popularity of the project.

Its presale ends in 11 days, at which point SOLX will list and Solaxy will launch its layer-two network for Solana.

As an L2, Solaxy will provide Solana users with lower fees and faster confirmation times, enabling them to avoid the delays and failed transactions that Solana can witness during peak traffic.

It will also launch its own DEX soon after going live, with the exchange being a key part of its plans to become an important hub for trading.

SOLX will be necessary to pay for transaction fees, while holders will also be able to stake it, making it a valuable coin to hold.

Latecomers to its sale can still buy some early by going to the Solaxy website, where SOLX costs $0.001746.

This is its final presale price, but given the popularity of its sale, it could rise higher once it lists on trading platforms.

Crypto Ally Paul Atkins Sworn In to Replace Gary Gensler Atop U.S. SEC https://earlybirdsinvest.com/crypto-ally-paul-atkins-sworn-in-to-replace-gary-gensler-atop-u-s-sec/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/crypto-ally-paul-atkins-sworn-in-to-replace-gary-gensler-atop-u-s-sec/#respond Tue, 22 Apr 2025 15:30:11 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/crypto-ally-paul-atkins-sworn-in-to-replace-gary-gensler-atop-u-s-sec/

Paul Atkins has taken the oath to formally become chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which returns Mark Uyeda to his previous role as a Republican Commissioner after three busy months of service as the agency’s stand-in chief.

Atkins permanently replaces the former chair, Gary Gensler, who the crypto industry had widely seen as its chief antagonist in the U.S. government. But Uyeda and fellow Commissioner Hester Peirce have already put the SEC on a path toward greater acceptance of digital assets, forming a crypto task force, shedding a long list of industry enforcement actions and gathering industry representatives at a series of crypto roundtables. The agency’s staff also released statements announcing various corners of crypto as outside its securities jurisdiction.

The new chairman said he’s honored by the “trust and confidence” Trump and the U.S. Senate placed in him and is pleased to start work with the other commissioners.

“Together we will work to ensure that the U.S. is the best and most secure place in the world to invest and do business,” he said in a statement.

Atkins, who was confirmed by the Senate as President Donald Trump’s nominee earlier this month, had previously served as an SEC commissioner and ran a Washington consulting firm focused on compliance and policy matters. In addition to his Wall Street ties, Atkins had also taken on advisory roles with crypto firms.

The Senate easily approved Atkins with a 52-44 vote, though the Senate Banking Committee had advanced his confirmation along party lines. All the panel’s Democrats opposed the nominee, including Senator Elizabeth Warren, who criticized Atkins’ previous tenure at the SEC from 2002 to 2008, tying it to the 2008 global financial crisis.

The SEC is facing a considerable crypto agenda, potentially made more complicated by Trump’s personal business interests in the industry, including in World Liberty Financial’s stablecoin and in memecoins (such as the president’s own $TRUMP). Its eventual crypto regulations, though, will largely be directed by future legislation that’s now a priority in Congress.

Atkins’ tenure will begin with an incomplete commission, with just four of its five members in place. And the sole Democrat — Caroline Crenshaw — is occupying an already expired term. The White House hasn’t yet moved to fill the two Democratic slots on the commission, and other regulators have seen Trump attempt to strip Democratic members of their positions.
