Bitcoin

traders are increasingly chasing higher-level call options on Deribit, signaling that they are preparing for renewed bullish price volatility.

“Vols remain pinned near historical lows, but a decisive breach of the $110,000 resistance could spark a renewed volatility bid. Some larger players appear to be positioning for just that,” Singapore-based QCP Capital said in a market update.

“They are continuing to add exposure to September $130,000 calls, while steadfastly holding September $115,000/$140,000 call spreads, underscoring a structurally bullish Q3 outlook,” QCP added.

A call option gives the purchaser the right, but not the obligation, to buy the underlying asset at a predetermined price on or before a specific date. A call buyer is implicitly bullish on the market. In other words, buyers of the $130,000 strike call expect BTC’s spot price to rise above that level.

BTC’s price has been stuck between $100,000 and $110,000 for over 50 days as selling by wallets with a history of holding coins for the long term counteracts ETF inflows.

Volatility may pick up soon as the June Fed minutes are due for release on Wednesday. Further, the 90-day tariff pause for many U.S. trading partners has reportedly been extended to Aug. 1.

Dogecoin Surges 10%, Bitcoin Nears $104K Amid Renewed ‘Risk-on’ Sentiment https://earlybirdsinvest.com/dogecoin-surges-10-bitcoin-nears-104k-amid-renewed-risk-on-sentiment/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/dogecoin-surges-10-bitcoin-nears-104k-amid-renewed-risk-on-sentiment/#respond Sun, 11 May 2025 14:20:06 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/dogecoin-surges-10-bitcoin-nears-104k-amid-renewed-risk-on-sentiment/

Bitcoin pushed past the six-figure mark for the first time in over two months, coming within a hair of $104,000 in early Asian hours Saturday, as crypto markets staged a sharp rebound on improving macro sentiment and Ethereum’s latest network upgrade.

Dogecoin DOGE$0.23021 led the gains among majors with a 10% rally, while ether ETH$2,480.17 rose 3.5% following the successful implementation of its long-awaited Pectra upgrade, bringing weekly gains over 30%.

Other majors, including Solana SOL$171.62, Cardano ADA$0.79306, xrp XRP$2.36, and BNB Chain’s BNB$651.60, rose between 2% and 6%, driven by a shift in investor sentiment from caution to risk-on.

The move follows a string of pro-crypto developments in the U.S. this week. On Wednesday, New Hampshire passed a bill allowing the state to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve. Arizona followed suit a day later with its own legislation supporting a crypto reserve. The state-level momentum comes as political leaders lean further into digital asset policy ahead of the November election in some states.

President Donald Trump’s bullish remarks on upcoming U.S.-China trade talks also helped ease market jitters. The comments coincided with the U.S. and U.K. signing a fresh trade agreement that will remove reciprocal tariffs and lower duties on American goods, further lifting sentiment across equities and crypto alike.

“President Trump’s optimistic outlook on this weekend’s China trade talks is easing fears of an escalating trade war, encouraging traders to shift capital back into asset classes like cryptocurrencies,” said Jeff Mei, COO at BTSE, in a message to CoinDesk. “This could very well drive bitcoin back towards its all-time high and potentially surpass it.”

BTC trades about 5% below its January record high of over $108,700 as of European morning hours on Saturday.

Analysts say the recent moves mark a decisive break from the sluggish price action that plagued altcoins through much of March and April.

“Traders believe the crypto industry may have finally found its second wind as a hedge against market uncertainty,” Nick Ruck, director at LVRG Research, told CoinDesk in a Telegram chat.

“Investors are changing their perspectives on crypto now that altcoins have departed from a negative trend and found buying pressure from a renewed risk-on sentiment,” Ruck added.

Ethereum’s 30% rally this week is also being attributed to growing institutional interest and the momentum behind its Pectra upgrade, which introduces long-anticipated execution layer reforms aimed at boosting efficiency and scalability.

“The upgrade provides reforms Ethereum desperately needs to cement its position as a leading chain amidst growing competition,” BTSE’s Mei said. “Given that Ethereum is trading well below its all-time high, we could see substantial upside in the coming weeks and months, especially as macro fears ease and institutions become more willing to allocate towards crypto and crypto ETFs.”

Still, traders are closely watching this weekend’s U.S.-China trade negotiations. Talks are set to begin later on Saturday in Switzerland, and any signs of stalemate or renewed tension could undercut the current rally.

Meta exploring stablecoins for cross-border payouts in renewed crypto push https://earlybirdsinvest.com/meta-exploring-stablecoins-for-cross-border-payouts-in-renewed-crypto-push/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/meta-exploring-stablecoins-for-cross-border-payouts-in-renewed-crypto-push/#respond Fri, 09 May 2025 05:27:38 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/meta-exploring-stablecoins-for-cross-border-payouts-in-renewed-crypto-push/

Meta is exploring stablecoin-based payment infrastructure in a renewed effort to integrate blockchain technology into its platforms, Fortune reported on May 8, citing people familiar with the matter.

According to the report, the tech giant is in preliminary discussions with multiple crypto firms to evaluate stablecoins as a mechanism for managing cross-border payouts.

The discussions involve use cases like creator payouts through Instagram, where stablecoins could offer a low-fee alternative to fiat-based transfers.

According to one executive from a crypto infrastructure firm, Meta is currently in “learn mode” and is not yet committed to a specific stablecoin provider.

The company declined to comment on the matter.

Previous attempt

Meta’s latest effort follows its high-profile but unsuccessful attempt to launch a stablecoin in 2019 under Project Libra, which was later renamed to Diem. The initiative was designed to support a global payments network backed by a basket of fiat currencies.

However, the project ended due to regulatory pressure from US lawmakers, and Silvergate Bank bought Diem’s assets.

Ginger Baker, who joined the company in January as vice president of product, is reportedly leading Meta’s new stablecoin venture. Baker has previous experience in fintech through roles at Plaid and currently sits on the board of the Stellar Development Foundation, which oversees the Stellar blockchain.

The initiative comes amid renewed interest in stablecoins as the US looks to fully recognize and regulate them as digital representations of the dollar.

Fidelity recently revealed it is testing a stablecoin, while payments giant Visa is looking to launch a platform to tokenize fiat currencies. Bank of America has also hinted at plans to launch its own stablecoin once the regulatory environment is more certain.

Industry engagement and personnel moves

Sources say Meta has initiated outreach to crypto infrastructure firms throughout 2025, with early conversations centered on stablecoins as a tool to reduce international payment costs.

According to three people briefed on the meetings, the focus is on small-dollar payouts, especially for content creators and digital freelancers operating across multiple markets.

USDC’s issuer Circle has reportedly been in talks with Meta through Matt Cavin, a former executive at gaming blockchain startup Immutable who joined Circle in March.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg acknowledged Diem’s failure during an appearance at a Stripe conference earlier this week, where he said the project was dead.

Zuckerberg added that while Meta often leads in adopting new technologies, it has also been forced to re-enter markets where it was previously too early or met resistance.

Pumpfun launches mobile app amid renewed memecoin frenzy https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pumpfun-launches-mobile-app-amid-renewed-memecoin-frenzy/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pumpfun-launches-mobile-app-amid-renewed-memecoin-frenzy/#respond Sat, 15 Feb 2025 00:38:12 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pumpfun-launches-mobile-app-amid-renewed-memecoin-frenzy/

Solana-based memecoin launchpad Pump.fun has launched a mobile app supporting iOS and Android devices, according to a Feb. 14 announcement.

The app allows users to buy, sell, and create tokens for free, manage their digital portfolios, and track assets in real-time. The mobile release aims to enhance accessibility for a growing user base, providing seamless interaction with the Solana blockchain on the go.

The company highlighted that the app is designed with a user-friendly interface, making it easier for both experienced traders and newcomers to navigate the volatile memecoin landscape.

Like the main platform, the Pump.fun app will not be available to UK users due to regulatory challenges in the country.

Renewed memecoin frenzy

The app launch comes amid a renewed memecoin frenzy fueled by a viral social media post made by former Binance CEO Changpeng ‘CZ’ Zhao.

CZ’s revelation of his dog’s name, Broccoli, sparked a wave of speculation, leading to the creation of hundreds of Broccoli-themed tokens — the vast majority of which were rug pulls or honey pot scams launched by malicious actors trying to take advantage of the situation.

Many of these coins, particularly on Pump.fun and BNB Smart Chain’s Four.Meme, experienced rapid price surges before crashing. Some traders capitalized on the frenzy, with blockchain data revealing instances of early entrants making millions before latecomers suffered heavy losses.

This latest episode highlights the speculative nature of the memecoin market and its susceptibility to hype-driven price movements.

Regulatory Challenges persist

The app launch comes despite the platform’s recent legal and regulatory challenges in multiple jurisdictions around the world.

In December 2024, the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) warned investors to “beware of scams” involving Pump.fun, stating that the platform might be operating without proper authorization.

The regulator’s concerns centered around the platform’s potential to facilitate unregistered securities trading and market manipulation. Industry experts have pointed out that the FCA’s increased scrutiny of crypto-related platforms signals a broader regulatory tightening across Europe.

The regulatory scrutiny prompted Pump.fun to block access to the platform for local users and essentially “withdraw” from the UK. There have been no further updates about the situation from UK authorities or the platform.

Legal challenges have also surfaced in the US, where two law firms have sued Pump.fun over alleged intellectual property violations, and another lawsuit claims the platform violates securities laws.

Additionally, US regulators have reportedly been examining Pump.fun’s role in the proliferation of unregistered tokens and its compliance with anti-money laundering laws. The lawsuits raise questions about the broader legality of memecoin projects and the responsibilities of platforms facilitating their creation.

Despite these hurdles, Pump.fun remains a dominant force in the memecoin sector. The platform has generated significant transaction volumes, with a daily fee revenue of $15.5 million in its first year. On Feb. 13 alone, Pump.fun recorded $7.61 million in fees.

The platform’s rapid adoption highlights the continued demand for speculative digital assets, even amid increasing regulatory pressure.
