An ad featuring a fake version of Jamie Lee Curtis was taken down from Meta’s platform on May 12 after the actor publicly criticized the company and its CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.

The video, created with artificial intelligence (AI), used old footage from a news interview and replaced her real voice with AI-generated speech to promote a product she had no connection to.

Curtis said she first tried to handle the situation privately by reaching out to Meta and Zuckerberg. When she received no reply, she went public with a post on Instagram, tagging Zuckerberg and writing, “It’s come to this Zuck”.

She also stated that she had not given permission to use her image or voice in the ad.

The clip used material from a past MSNBC interview recorded during the Los Angeles wildfires. It changed her original words into a message promoting something she never endorsed. Curtis wrote on Instagram:

This (MIS)use of my images… with new, fake words put in my mouth, diminishes my opportunities to actually speak my truth.

Meta did not post a public response, but company representatives told Variety the video had been taken down.

Later, Curtis shared another post on Instagram confirming the ad had been removed. “IT WORKED! YAY INTERNET! SHAME HAS ITS VALUE!” she wrote.

Bitcoin Core to Remove OP_RETURN Limit in Next Upgrade https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-core-to-remove-op_return-limit-in-next-upgrade/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-core-to-remove-op_return-limit-in-next-upgrade/#respond Tue, 06 May 2025 19:45:59 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-core-to-remove-op_return-limit-in-next-upgrade/

Bitcoin Core developers have confirmed that the next software release will lift the long-standing 80-byte restriction on OP_RETURN transaction outputs.

The decision was met with concern in the crypto space as users expressed dissatisfaction with the move.

OP_RETURN Has Outlived Its Purpose

The information was relayed in a May 5 GitHub announcement by Bitcoin developer Gregory Sanders, which read:

“Bitcoin Core’s next release will, by default, relay and mine transactions whose OP_RETURN outputs exceed 80 bytes and allow any number of these outputs.”

Sanders explained that the 80-byte limit was originally a “gentle signal that block space should be used sparingly for non-payment proof of publication data,” but that it has now outlived its usefulness.

OP_RETURN is a type of Bitcoin transaction output that allows small amounts of data to be stored on the blockchain. Unlike regular outputs, they are unspendable and therefore don’t contribute to unspent transaction outputs (UTXOs).

Developers noted that many private mining accelerators already ignore the limit, and users often find workarounds. Instead of stopping misuse, they have started embedding data in more complex ways, such as crafting fake output public keys or using spendable scripts to hide data. This makes the network harder to manage and less efficient.

Some proposed introducing blacklists to stop these tricks, but the developers rejected that idea. They argued that blacklists are unreliable, hard to maintain, and could even lead to innocent people losing funds.

Sanders also clarified that removing the restriction doesn’t weaken Bitcoin’s security. Rules like the 4 million weight unit block limit and other safeguards remain in place. However, the change brings some improvements, such as a cleaner UTXO set and more consistent behavior across the network.

He explained that developers considered three options before reaching a decision: keeping the cap, raising it, or removing it entirely. According to him, the third option received “broad, though not unanimous support.”

Community Debate

The announcement has started a debate in the crypto community. Bitcoin Knots maintainer Luke Dashjr described the removal as “utter insanity.” Bitcoiner Samson Mow said on X on May 5 that users “can refuse to upgrade and stay on 29.0 or run another implementation,” referring to Knots.

Critics also argued that the proposal was introduced without a proper decision-making process. “I think one thing is pretty clear: there is no consensus at the moment on this OP_RETURN issue,” said Ten31 Fund managing partner Marty Bent.

Meanwhile, Sanders has defended the removal of the cap as aligned with Bitcoin’s ethos of  “minimal and transparent rules.”

Despite these assurances, the community still doesn’t agree. “This marks a fundamental shift in the direction of Bitcoin,” one commenter warned on GitHub. “This is the largest mistake Core can make at this juncture,” another added.

Although these stablecoins will be removed from spot trading, Binance has assured users that they will still be able to sell them through Binance Convert. The exchange has also confirmed that stablecoins that meet MiCA’s requirements, such as USD Coin

and Eurite, will remain available.

Users are encouraged to convert their holdings into MiCA-compliant stablecoins or fiat currencies like the euro before the changes take effect. Despite the trading restrictions, Binance will still allow deposits and withdrawals for the affected stablecoins.

The company has stated:

Custody of non-MiCA-compliant stablecoins will continue, and you will be able to withdraw or deposit non-MiCA-compliant stablecoins at any time.

While users will still be able to hold and transfer these assets, it is unclear whether Binance’s approach fully complies with MiCA regulations.

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) has advised crypto service providers in the region to remove all non-MiCA stablecoins by March 31, 2025. Some regulators, such as MiCA Crypto Alliance’s Juan Ignacio Ibañez, have emphasized that tokens like USDT should be entirely removed, stating, “No trace of USDT should remain, not even in ‘sell-only’ mode, by March 31”.

Google makes it easier to remove your personal information from search results https://earlybirdsinvest.com/google-makes-it-easier-to-remove-your-personal-information-from-search-results/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/google-makes-it-easier-to-remove-your-personal-information-from-search-results/#respond Mon, 03 Mar 2025 08:36:00 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/google-makes-it-easier-to-remove-your-personal-information-from-search-results/

In brief: As the dominant gateway to online information, Google’s search engine has shaped how people access and discover content. However, search results sometimes expose personal data, raising privacy concerns. A recent update introduces a tool that gives users more control over what appears in search results.

Google updated a search engine tool called “Results About You” that it initially rolled out in 2022. Developers have made it more user-friendly and directly integrated its most helpful features into search results, including the ability to remove your personal data from them.

Users must first take a somewhat counterintuitive step to use the tool: inputting their personal information into the system. While potentially alarming for those aiming to protect their privacy, this process is necessary for the tool to identify and manage specific data in search results. However, regardless of whether it appears in search results, Google likely already possesses this information anyway.

One of the most significant improvements in this update is the integration of its key features directly into search results. While not prominently displayed, users can access Results About You through the three-dot menu next to each search result. This menu includes options to remove results containing personal information.

When requesting the removal of personal information, Google prompts users for additional details, a process that typically takes only a few seconds. The interface also accommodates non-personal removal requests, such as reporting illegal content. All requests are logged in the “Results About You” tool for later review. It’s crucial to note that Google can only remove content from its search results, not the web pages containing it.

The redesigned hub allows users to monitor the status of their removal requests and offers additional features. For instance, users can request a data refresh if a search result contains inaccurate information. This option is useful when a website has removed personal data, but the search results haven’t updated.

It is not the first Google has overhauled the tool. In 2023, it introduced a suite of features that made it more proactive, actively scanning search results for users’ data. Developers added an expanded dashboard, giving users a more comprehensive view of their personal information in Search. It also added the ability to request the removal of nonconsensual explicit images from search results.

Google recommends regularly checking the Results About You hub. The tool automatically identifies new instances of previously highlighted personal data, allowing users to request removals quickly. Additionally, users can receive notifications via phone or email when new personal information emerges in search results.
