Evgeny Masharov, a member of Russia’s Civic Chamber, has proposed launching a crypto-based financial institution that could help regulate digital asset activity and support the country’s mining industry.

He made the suggestion in an interview with TASS, a government-backed media outlet, and pointed to Belarus as a country already testing a similar approach.

According to Masharov, such a bank would serve two main goals: reduce illegal crypto transactions and give miners a proper system to convert their earnings into local currency.

He also said this structure would make it easier to trace suspicious activity, enforce taxes, and prevent the misuse of crypto to fund crime. Bringing these operations into the formal banking system would give authorities a better chance of identifying bad actors and controlling high-risk transactions.

Masharov stated that currently, there is no proper system for miners to legally cash out their crypto, which prompts them toward grey-market services.

He proposed that transactions within the bank should be processed in crypto, but that incoming funds should only be transferred through accounts held by Russian citizens.

Masharov also criticized how many private exchangers currently operate. He said:

At present, the main business of crypto exchangers is that cash is credited to the wallet of citizens and a commission is charged for this.

Alexander Lukashenko, the President of Belarus, recently announced plans to expand the country’s use of cryptocurrencies and modern financial tools. What did he say? Read the full story.

SEC and CFTC Open Door to Spot Crypto on Regulated US Exchanges https://earlybirdsinvest.com/sec-and-cftc-open-door-to-spot-crypto-on-regulated-us-exchanges/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/sec-and-cftc-open-door-to-spot-crypto-on-regulated-us-exchanges/#respond Wed, 03 Sep 2025 11:52:52 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/sec-and-cftc-open-door-to-spot-crypto-on-regulated-us-exchanges/

Financial regulators in the United States have issued a new statement explaining how licensed exchanges can offer spot crypto trading.

In a joint release, staff from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) said that regulated trading platforms, both domestic and certain international ones, may offer spot crypto products under current laws.

This update aims to provide more clarity for exchanges such as national securities exchanges (NSEs), designated contract markets (DCMs), and foreign boards of trade (FBOTs).

The statement emphasizes that these activities are not restricted, as long as the platforms follow established rules and remain in touch with the agencies.

The joint note explained that exchange operators are encouraged to reach out to SEC or CFTC staff for assistance or to ask questions. The agencies also stated that they are prepared to review exchange applications, address concerns regarding custody and trade clearing.

They also ensure that new spot offerings meet standards for transparency, market surveillance, and customer protection.

Under this framework, platforms such as the New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, CME Group, and Cboe Global Markets, as well as some CFTC-recognized foreign trading boards, may qualify to list spot crypto products. The agencies recommend that these platforms speak directly with regulatory staff before launching any crypto-related services.

Recently, the CFTC introduced a new set of rules for foreign commodity exchanges. What do the rules include? Read the full story.

Kraken’s Head of Exchange, Shannon Kurtas, stated that Kraken Derivatives US helps give traders more access to different parts of the crypto market, while staying within official rules and using systems built for heavy trading activity.

Kraken has been preparing for this new product since March, when it acquired NinjaTrader, a trading platform known among retail investors for futures and currency trading. That purchase gave Kraken the licenses and regulatory framework it needed to offer US-compliant derivatives.

Since then, the exchange has integrated NinjaTrader’s systems with its own to make this launch possible.

Kraken is now competing with other major players like Coinbase

Tether’s Grip On Stablecoin Market At Risk As Regulated Rivals Gain Momentum – Here’s Why https://earlybirdsinvest.com/tethers-grip-on-stablecoin-market-at-risk-as-regulated-rivals-gain-momentum-heres-why/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/tethers-grip-on-stablecoin-market-at-risk-as-regulated-rivals-gain-momentum-heres-why/#respond Mon, 14 Jul 2025 19:24:19 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/tethers-grip-on-stablecoin-market-at-risk-as-regulated-rivals-gain-momentum-heres-why/

Trusted Editorial content, reviewed by leading industry experts and seasoned editors. Ad Disclosure

Amid the current tightening global oversight and a growing appetite for transparency in the crypto world, Tether’s position as the leading stablecoin issuer in the sector is at risk from new and rising stablecoins.

Fading Dominance Of The Stablecoin Issuer

SMQKE, an observer and researcher, shared a report that shows that the firm could lose its robust grip in the stablecoin sector. According to the researcher, the leading stablecoin issuer “will lose market dominance to regulated stablecoins like the RLUSD in the future.”

Presently, global regulations are being made that focus on the intersection of digital assets and traditional finance. One of the assets that fits nicely into these regulations is Circle’s USDC, which has won approval from the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA).

However, Tether’s USDT appears to be evading regulators’ demands for transparency in the way it operates its underlying assets. As a result, regulated stablecoins will continue to overtake USDT as the market leader in the future. “Only time will tell whether Tether will continue to leak market share to rivals or continue to hold sway with cryptocurrency fans,” the report stated.

Stablecoins such as USDP, PYUSD, USDG, and RLUSD steadily challenge USDT’s dominance as they reflect stronger institutional alignment. This is because official regulations govern each stablecoin and have reserves that are mainly made up of liquid, high-quality assets.

A Major Shift From Tether Coming Soon

As the stablecoin landscape evolves, Tether, the largest stablecoin firm, continues to make steps to provide a reliable network. A recent report shows that the leading platform plans to let go of some of the top chains in the sector in the upcoming months.

In a significant move, Tether, the first blockchain-enabled platform, has announced it will discontinue USDT support on five key blockchains. Such a move is meant to streamline its operations and bolster the network’s efficiency.

The announcement was shared by the Phoenix Group, a crypto media on the X platform, on Sunday. According to the report, the impending disconnection is scheduled to take place in the next two months, particularly in September 2025.

This strategic shift by Tether tends to phase out chains that no longer meet the changing technical or community standards of the stablecoin issuer. In addition, it reflects the firm’s increased focus on preserving liquidity and security throughout its ecosystems.

The list of blockchains mentioned in the company’s report includes Omni Layer, Bitcoin Cash, Kusama Network, EOS Network, and Algorand. Tether will discontinue USDT redemptions and freeze remaining tokens on these chains starting from September 1, 2025.

As stated in the report, Tether’s decision to cut ties with these key chains comes after a strategic infrastructure evaluation and represents a move toward more utilized and scalable networks. Prior to the September deadline, the firm has urged users holding USDT on the affected chains to redeem or migrate their tokens to other supported chains. Failure to do so before then is likely to lead to loss of funds and assets.

Circle Seeks Green Light to Launch Federally Regulated Trust Bank https://earlybirdsinvest.com/circle-seeks-green-light-to-launch-federally-regulated-trust-bank/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/circle-seeks-green-light-to-launch-federally-regulated-trust-bank/#respond Sat, 05 Jul 2025 21:43:00 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/circle-seeks-green-light-to-launch-federally-regulated-trust-bank/

Circle, the company behind the USDC
USDC

$1.00

stablecoin, has filed an application to become a national trust bank.

The decision would enable the firm to directly manage the reserves backing USDC and operate under the supervision of a single federal regulator, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).

If the OCC approves the plan, Circle would launch First National Digital Currency Bank, NA, a federally regulated trust company. Unlike traditional banks, this type of institution cannot make loans or take cash deposits, according to a report by Reuters.

Instead, it focuses on storing and protecting assets, such as the dollar reserves tied to USDC. The trust bank would also be able to provide custody services to large clients, including other financial institutions.

Circle said this new setup would help it meet the requirements of the GENIUS Act, a stablecoin regulation bill that recently passed in the US Senate and is being considered in the House of Representatives.

In a statement, Circle’s co-founder and CEO, Jeremy Allaire, said the company is working to strengthen the foundation of USDC. He explained that the trust bank would support Circle’s efforts to build a digital financial system that is open, reliable, and follows US regulations.

Allaire added that this decision could help expand the use of the dollar globally by giving institutions more secure ways to use stablecoins.

Circle targets federally regulated trust status to manage stablecoin reserves, offer custody services https://earlybirdsinvest.com/circle-targets-federally-regulated-trust-status-to-manage-stablecoin-reserves-offer-custody-services/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/circle-targets-federally-regulated-trust-status-to-manage-stablecoin-reserves-offer-custody-services/#respond Tue, 01 Jul 2025 04:03:29 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/circle-targets-federally-regulated-trust-status-to-manage-stablecoin-reserves-offer-custody-services/

Circle applied to charter First National Digital Currency Bank to become a federally regulated trust that would manage USDC reserves and expand custody services for institutional clients.

According to a June 30 announcement, Circle applied to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), seeking authority to operate as a national trust bank subject to full OCC supervision.

Approval would permit the new entity to hold and safeguard the assets backing USDC for Circle’s US issuer and to offer crypto custody to pension funds, asset managers, and corporate treasurers.

Circle added that a national charter would align its structure with the GENIUS Act, a bill moving through Congress that would require payment stablecoin issuers to hold segregated reserves in federally regulated institutions.

CEO Jeremy Allaire said the charter “marks a significant milestone in our goal to build an internet financial system that is transparent, efficient, and accessible.”

He noted that the firm aims to “enhance the reach and resilience of the US dollar” by operating market-neutral infrastructure open to global institutions.

Circle trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol CRCL and reported more than $32 billion in USDC circulation at the end of May.

Expanding licensing movement

Circle issued the first New York Department of Financial Services BitLicense in 2015, which gave it a head start in complying with the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets framework last year.

In April, the Abu Dhabi Global Market granted the company in principle approval to operate as a money services provider. Circle said the OCC filing extends that licensing strategy to the US at the federal tier rather than the state level.

The trust bank will act as a wholly owned subsidiary of Circle Internet Group. It will maintain capital and liquidity according to OCC rules and submit to regular examinations. Circle did not provide a launch timeline. OCC evaluations of trust charter applications typically span several quarters.

In its announcement, Circle noted that institutional clients have pressed stablecoin issuers for federally regulated custody options as US lawmakers debate reserve mandates and disclosure standards.

By holding reserves at a national trust, Circle aims to streamline compliance ahead of the potential passage of the GENIUS Act while reducing counterparty risk for large depositors.

DAMA 2: Deutsche Bank unveils institutional tokenization stack to fast-track regulated funds https://earlybirdsinvest.com/dama-2-deutsche-bank-unveils-institutional-tokenization-stack-to-fast-track-regulated-funds/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/dama-2-deutsche-bank-unveils-institutional-tokenization-stack-to-fast-track-regulated-funds/#respond Wed, 18 Jun 2025 07:11:41 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/dama-2-deutsche-bank-unveils-institutional-tokenization-stack-to-fast-track-regulated-funds/

Deutsche Bank, Memento Blockchain, and Interop Labs published a litepaper on June 17 outlining plans for Digital Asset Management Access 2 (DAMA 2), a tokenization platform intended to operate on public blockchains and facilitate the issuance of regulated funds.

According to the paper, DAMA 2 would link three layers: Ethereum (ETH) would act as the settlement base, Memento Blockchain’s ZKsync-based layer-2 would process transactions with zero-knowledge privacy safeguards, and a top-layer interface would offer an app store with ready-made fund smart contract templates.

The concept is framed as Blockchain-as-a-Service, allowing issuers to launch products without the need to build protocol teams.

To support cross-chain activity, DAMA 2 would integrate Axelar Network’s Interchain Token Service, enabling interoperability with more than 70 blockchains. This multichain setup would give issuers a single dashboard to lock, mint, and burn tokens across networks while preserving fungibility.

The litepaper confirms Deutsche Bank’s earlier initiative, first reported on Dec. 17 last year, to address regulatory barriers tied to public blockchains, using ZKsync technology to cut costs and boost efficiency.

The partners expect to deliver a minimum viable product in the second half of 2025, though no specific launch date has been given.

Regulatory alignment and rollout

Boon-Hiong Chan, Deutsche Bank’s innovation lead for securities and technology advocacy, said the project demonstrates how public blockchains have matured for institutional finance and how applied technologies can achieve resilience and compliance through a single platform. He added that familiar workflows and low learning curves remain essential for adoption.

The litepaper describes modular compliance tools, on-chain investor registries, and expense management features. Privacy would be managed through allowlisted wallets and private RPC endpoints, while Axelar’s hub-and-spoke model could isolate compromised chains if necessary.

Axelar co-founder Sergey Gorbunov called DAMA 2 a compliant pathway for institutions to enter the digital assets space and scale securely across multiple blockchains, noting that vendor fragmentation and isolated liquidity remain industry challenges.

Settlement finality would tie back to Ethereum proofs, and legal agreements would define clear transfer points on layer-2 networks.

Nicola Lanteri, CEO of Memento Blockchain, said the planned Memento ZK Chain would combine a permissioned sequencer with zero-knowledge proofs to give institutions predictable control while preserving the openness of public blockchain networks.

The litepaper projects that asset managers could tap into an estimated $84 trillion intergenerational wealth transfer by 2045, citing Cerulli Associates, and positions DAMA 2 as a way to reach digital-native investors.

Announces Europe’s largest regulated futures offering, strengthening its market leadership position in the region https://earlybirdsinvest.com/announces-europes-largest-regulated-futures-offering-strengthening-its-market-leadership-position-in-the-region/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/announces-europes-largest-regulated-futures-offering-strengthening-its-market-leadership-position-in-the-region/#respond Wed, 21 May 2025 09:23:33 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/announces-europes-largest-regulated-futures-offering-strengthening-its-market-leadership-position-in-the-region/

We look forward to announcing the launch of a regulated crypto derivative in Europe and providing clients and partners with access to a range of liquid futures equipment within an all-recognized regulatory framework.

Eligible clients and partners in the European Economic Area (EEA) are now able to trade a wide range of crypto derivatives, including both permanent and fixed maturity agreements. These products comply with the Financial Instruments Directive (Mifid II) market and offer them through MIFID-regulated investment companies that we acquired earlier this year.

One of Europe’s most fluid onshore regulatory brokers and crypto derivative exchanges, Kraken Derivatives offers facility-grade infrastructure, strong local FIAT support and flexible collateral options. This allows traders to optimize capital allocation and manage risk more effectively. The launch of MiFID controlled futures is an important step to strengthening our market position by providing these benefits under a reliable regulatory regime.

“Europe is one of the fastest growing regions for digital asset trading and investment, some of the most sophisticated and demanding clients and institutions,” says Shannon Kurtas, head of Kraken. “The launch of regulated derivatives in Europe is very timed to meet this growing demand, highlighting our commitment to providing reliable and compliant access to the best markets and trading opportunities.”

Since acquiring its first regulated crypto derivatives venue in 2019, it has built one of the deepest global liquidity pools for crypto-trading derivatives. The deployment of the mid-fid control derivative marks another major milestone. This strengthens our leadership as a comprehensive and compliant platform for crypto trading in Europe.

Kurtas added: “With a regulated framework, clients and partners are increasingly looking for comprehensive products. This launch allows futures to be traded seamlessly as part of a complete product from one of Europe’s most established platforms.

Our new derivative offerings are available through Payward Europe Digital Solutions (CY), a Cyprus-based entity regulated under MiFID II.

Regulated exchanges hold the key to unlocking the altcoin season https://earlybirdsinvest.com/regulated-exchanges-hold-the-key-to-unlocking-the-altcoin-season/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/regulated-exchanges-hold-the-key-to-unlocking-the-altcoin-season/#respond Sat, 03 May 2025 14:06:15 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/regulated-exchanges-hold-the-key-to-unlocking-the-altcoin-season/

The following is a guest post and opinion from Przemysław Kral, CEO of zondacrypto.

Since the enforcement of the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulations, the European crypto landscape has been fundamentally reshaped—and for the better. Crypto has now entered an era in which exchanges are required to prioritize regulatory compliance, centering user safety in hopes of moving toward mainstream adoption. The industry’s desire to transition to a more regulated ecosystem is made even more apparent by the decisive action of several crypto exchanges delisting non-compliant stablecoins.

It is the altcoin market that is now poised for substantial growth as regulations continue to solidify this year. In addition to ensuring compliance, regulated exchanges are also essential to the long-term altcoin market. The necessary path of compliance and the maturation of the altcoin market across the EU will depend on these exchanges’ capacity for innovation and adaptation in the coming critical months.

The Impact of Regulation: A Necessary Contraction?

The delisting of non-compliant stablecoins is just the beginning: MiCA regulations will continue to affect operational requirements, consumer protection measures, and anti-money laundering protocols. MiCA’s approach aims to build trust and security, while market hubs like Singapore and Hong Kong implement policies that aim to encourage innovation with lighter-touch restrictions. The costs associated with compliance, coupled with the potential for reduced trading volumes from delistings, will unavoidably cause deflationary pressures on the industry.

What can be considered disruptive in the short term, however, is a vital step in the direction of long-term sustainability. At this juncture, exchanges must decide whether to adapt or become obsolete. The question still hangs in the air: Can the industry continue to navigate this transition while maintaining its growth trajectory?

Counteracting (Over)Regulation

Taking advantage of altcoins as the next big growth opportunity can offset deflationary effects. Altcoins are expected to see significant growth, even with Ethereum’s performance more or less plateauing and Bitcoin significantly retreating from its all-time high earlier in the year, despite Trump’s initial policy suggestions.

The development of the altcoin market is correlated with the industry’s future: Altcoins are leading the charge in creating strong ecosystems that provide practical utility and real-world solutions. This is in stark contrast to memecoins, which are mostly driven by speculation and social media fervor. You don’t need to look further than the Libra scandal from earlier this year to see why interest in memecoins has been cooling.

Analysis suggests that altcoins will surpass Bitcoin’s supremacy in the next market cycle, no longer defined by asset rotation. Despite Bitcoin’s dips below $80K, altcoins experienced comparatively smaller declines and haven’t seen new lows this year, indicating less sell pressure and the possibility of a rally with increased buying interest. Broader institutional investment further supports their growth, as entities look for diversified exposure beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum.

Needless to say, this expansion potential depends more than ever on a safe trading system. Regulated exchanges now serve as the gatekeepers of a sustainable future, far beyond their previous function as simple transaction facilitators.

Creativity Within Boundaries

Stable and legal trading conditions are necessary to take advantage of altcoins’ growth potential. Regulated exchanges ensure that projects can flourish in a transparent market by offering the infrastructure required to enable the growth and widespread adoption of cryptocurrencies.

Adherence to regulations such as MiCA is no longer a lofty goal but an industry standard, setting the foundation for the development of altcoins in a sustainable way. By prioritizing consumer protection and market integrity, regulated exchanges establish a safe environment for investors and projects alike. The long-term health of the crypto market and the attraction of institutional capital depend on this regulatory certainty. This new frontier isn’t solely about token gains: it’s the architecture of an entirely new market.

Welcoming the Era of Responsible Altcoin Growth

The EU is quickly positioning itself as a global crypto hub, outpacing North America and Asia in crypto banking alone. Frameworks such as MiCA play a key role in fostering an environment where the memecoin disasters of recent memory are never repeated, ensuring the impact of crypto is not just long-lasting but net positive.

Within this, regulated exchanges create the conditions for crypto innovation to flourish by emphasizing legal clarity and encouraging a culture of compliance. The development of altcoin initiatives with true utility and long-term potential is made possible with their infrastructure, which guarantees that the sector’s growth is supported with both confidence and stability. It’s the dawn of a new era, with compliant exchanges standing at the forefront.
