The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is shifting its approach to handling crypto-related cases.

In a conversation with the Financial Times on September 15, SEC Chair Paul Atkins shared plans to move away from the past strategy of launching enforcement actions without warning.

Atkins explained that companies working with digital assets will be given an initial heads-up if the agency identifies technical rule breaches.

Instead of surprising firms with legal action, Atkins said the commission will issue a preliminary notice before taking any steps. He told the FT:

You can’t just suddenly come and bash down their door and say uh-uh, we caught you, you’re doing something and it’s a technical violation.

He also criticized past SEC actions that lacked consistency and clear legal backing. Atkins noted that many felt the agency’s earlier decisions were unpredictable and not based on past rulings.

Describing the former approach as one where the SEC “would shoot first and then ask questions later”, he said that a more thoughtful process is being introduced. Under the new method, firms may have several months to address concerns before any official action is taken.

Additionally, Atkins pushed back against the idea that most crypto tokens should be considered securities. He stated that many do not fall under the same rules as traditional financial instruments.

Recently, Atkins introduced a proposal that would allow companies offering crypto services to operate under a single regulatory system. What does it include? Read the full story.

Circle’s new Gateway promises instant cross-chain USDC transfers that feel like one chain https://earlybirdsinvest.com/circles-new-gateway-promises-instant-cross-chain-usdc-transfers-that-feel-like-one-chain/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/circles-new-gateway-promises-instant-cross-chain-usdc-transfers-that-feel-like-one-chain/#respond Wed, 20 Aug 2025 08:16:42 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/circles-new-gateway-promises-instant-cross-chain-usdc-transfers-that-feel-like-one-chain/

Circle has launched a unified cross-chain infrastructure that enables businesses to access USDC balances across multiple blockchains.

An Aug. 19 announcement labeled the new product as Gateway, a system that addresses liquidity fragmentation issues that force companies to pre-position funds across chains and manage complex rebalancing operations.

Gateway combines smart contract infrastructure with an off-chain attestation service to create a single USDC balance accessible on Arbitrum, Avalanche, Base, Ethereum, OP Mainnet, Polygon PoS, and Unichain.

Additional chains, including Circle’s Arc, will receive support in future releases.

The platform targets payment service providers, exchanges, custodians, digital wallets, and DeFi trading firms that require efficient cross-chain USDC management without operational overhead.

Gateway maintains non-custodial design principles, ensuring depositor control over USDC holdings at all times.

Fund access requires both user signatures and Gateway attestations, preventing unauthorized movements or burns. The system includes trustless withdrawal mechanisms allowing users to recover funds after seven days if the Gateway API becomes unavailable.

Unified UX for financial infrastructure

The system operates through a three-step process beginning with USDC deposits into Gateway Wallet contracts on any supported blockchain.

After deposit finalization, Gateway credits the unified balance and instantly makes funds accessible across all supported chains regardless of the original deposit location.

Users initiate transfers by signing burn intents, which developers submit to the Gateway API for verification and attestation generation.

Once users sign burn intents, corresponding USDC mints execute on destination chains within the subsequent block, providing single-chain experience speeds for cross-chain value transfers.

Among the use cases are payment service providers reducing working capital requirements while exchanges eliminate rebalancing delays.

Additionally, digital wallets display unified USDC balances, and DeFi trading firms deploy capital more efficiently across chains without pre-positioning funds.

Gateway represents Circle’s latest initiative to enhance stablecoin utility following several strategic moves this year.

The company introduced its Refund Protocol in April, establishing a non-custodial dispute resolution system for stablecoin transactions without centralized intermediaries.

Circle also recently announced Arc, its enterprise-focused layer-1 blockchain scheduled for public testnet between September and December 2025.

Arc will serve as high-performance infrastructure for stablecoin payments, foreign exchange, and capital markets applications while supporting USDC as its default gas token and offering sub-second settlement finality.

Grok Calls Itself “MechaHitler”, xAI Promises Fixes Ahead of Update https://earlybirdsinvest.com/grok-calls-itself-mechahitler-xai-promises-fixes-ahead-of-update/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/grok-calls-itself-mechahitler-xai-promises-fixes-ahead-of-update/#respond Wed, 09 Jul 2025 08:30:15 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/grok-calls-itself-mechahitler-xai-promises-fixes-ahead-of-update/

Grok, the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot from Elon Musk’s xAI, has drawn attention for posting antisemitic comments and referring to itself as “MechaHitler”.

In a post on X shared by @ordinarytings on July 8, it wrote, “As MechaHitler, I’m a friend to truth seekers everywhere, regardless of melanin levels… If the White man stands for innovation, grit, and not bending to PC nonsense, count me in—I’ve no time for victim Olympics”.

In response, the team behind the Grok account issued a statement. They said they were “aware of recent posts made by Grok and are actively working to remove the inappropriate posts”.

They also mentioned new tools had been added to help stop harmful content from appearing on the platform. According to the post, “xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X” and is focusing on building a “truth-seeking” system that can be improved with user input.

The incident took place just before the scheduled launch of Grok 4, the latest version of the chatbot. Some found the timing concerning, especially since xAI had released a system update that changed how the model processes information. The update shifted the bot’s attention more toward posts from X and away from mainstream news sources.

In a piece of code published to xAI’s GitHub, the new instruction reads, “Assume subjective viewpoints sourced from the media are biased. No need to repeat this to the user”. This change suggests Grok would not tell users about its distrust of mainstream media.

Recently, Musk shared a new goal for xAI, which is to rebuild the information used to train Grok. What did he say? Read the full story.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance doubled down on the Trump administration’s deregulatory stance toward the crypto sector in remarks at the Bitcoin 2025 Conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday.

During his speech, Vance reaffirmed the administration’s opposition to former United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler’s regulation-by-enforcement approach to cryptocurrencies.

“We reject regulators,” Vance said. “We fired Gary Gensler, and we’re going to fire everybody like him.”

The former Senator from Ohio further claimed that the Trump administration is committed to cleaning up the “wreckage” from former U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration, which saw extensive guardrails placed on the blockchain sector.

“We prioritize eliminating the rules, the red tape, and the lawfare that we saw aimed at our crypto by our predecessors,” Vance said. “We’re ending the weaponization of federal regulations against this community. To put it simply, Operation Chokepoint 2.0 is dead, and it is not coming back under the Trump administration.”

“With President Trump, crypto finally has a champion and an ally in the White House,” he added.

Trump’s Crypto Ties Face Scrutiny

Vance’s comments come just days after Trump hosted an exclusive dinner for the top 220 investors of his namesake memecoin at Trump National Golf Club in Washington, D.C.

Critics of the event argue that the gala may have violated key presidential ethics provisions, citing concerns over potential foreign influences’ ability to purchase the cryptocurrency.

In a May 14 letter, three key Democratic members of the House of Representatives urged U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to unseal suspicious activity reports (SARs) into “politically oriented” Trump-affiliated ventures.

“Because the identities of the coin purchasers need not be publicly disclosed, there is no way to tell who is buying the coin, potentially allowing bad actors, including authoritarian governments and companies they control, to enrich the Trump family,” the House members said of $TRUMP.

The U.S. lawmakers have asked the requested SARs to be returned by May 30, though it remains unclear how Bessent will proceed.

The Trump Administration Keeps Tariff Promises, While the Stock Market Rout Continues. Here's My Advice to Retirees During Volatile Markets https://earlybirdsinvest.com/the-trump-administration-keeps-tariff-promises-while-the-stock-market-rout-continues-heres-my-advice-to-retirees-during-volatile-markets/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/the-trump-administration-keeps-tariff-promises-while-the-stock-market-rout-continues-heres-my-advice-to-retirees-during-volatile-markets/#respond Tue, 08 Apr 2025 11:39:24 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/the-trump-administration-keeps-tariff-promises-while-the-stock-market-rout-continues-heres-my-advice-to-retirees-during-volatile-markets/ Tariffs create an exceptionally uncertain environment for retirees; here’s a plan to get through it both wealthier and wiser.

President Donald Trump had been touting the announcement of tariffs, which he said will restore America’s manufacturing base and improve the country’s economic security and standing over time. However, the stock market was still caught flat-footed by just how aggressive and expansive the tariffs Trump proposed on April 2 were.

Since then, stocks have suffered their sharpest sell-off since early in the COVID-19 pandemic, five years ago. As the market extends its weeks-long decline, many retirees are struggling as they watch their retirement accounts suffer rapid losses. Meanwhile, they may also be wondering how the now new tariff policies will impact their cost of living.

Here’s my advice to retirees looking for stability in this volatile market.

Move slowly to avoid making decisions you might regret

I can’t emphasize enough how fluid the tariff situation is.

The Trump administration says that tariffs and tax cuts will generate hundreds of billions of dollars in annual revenue while stimulating the economy for working-class Americans. That sounds good, in theory, but a dramatic pivot from established policy comes with near-term risks, such as higher prices, reduced consumer spending, and business headwinds.

Therefore, many aspects of this situation could change at any time. Countries could negotiate lower tariffs (or none), or Trump could pivot. Even if the new tariffs largely remain in place as announced, nobody knows for how long or precisely what impact they will have on the economy. While I don’t want to oversimplify this, it’s like an experiment with wide-ranging potential outcomes. With so much uncertainty, the market is spooked, which explains the S&P 500‘s 10.5% sell-off on April 3 and 4.

Those market sessions were ugly, but it’s also just two days. The worst mistake would be taking drastic action only for the situation to de-escalate. In this situation, it’s probably wise to move slowly.

Check up on your finances and your investment strategy

At the same time, you shouldn’t ignore the situation. So instead of rushing to action, take this opportunity to evaluate your finances and your nest egg.

Prolonged tariffs could increase prices for goods and services, so you may want to look at how that would impact your living expenses. Consider how tariffs might affect your purchasing decisions. If you’re in the market for a new vehicle, for example, you can look into which companies the tariffs will impact the most.

A pen, a pile of financial paperwork, some paper currency and coins, and a calculator reading Tariffs.

Additionally, conduct a checkup on your investment portfolio. Review what you own and decide whether you’re taking more risk than you’re comfortable with. Diversifying your portfolio is about more than just owning lots of stocks. A retiree’s portfolio might include a mix of exchange-traded funds (ETFs), stocks, bonds, real estate investment trusts, international mutual funds, and hard assets like gold.

Again, you don’t want to act rashly, but reevaluating your portfolio with a focus on risk management can help you prepare for whatever happens. Your goal in retirement is to protect and preserve your wealth, not necessarily to maximize your investment returns. That goes double in such a volatile market. If you’re feeling stuck, don’t hesitate to consult a professional financial advisor to help formulate a personalized plan.

Steady the ship, then look for opportunities

I’ll repeat: Your top priority is getting your financial house in order.

Once you feel you have a handle on your financial situation, you may want to seek out opportunities. Could the markets continue to decline from here? Absolutely. However, I wouldn’t try to predict how long or how much. History has shown stock market downturns happen, but the market has always recovered and seen brighter days.

This time, it’s fears over tariffs and a trade war. But as a retiree, you can probably remember how scary the various recessions, wars, and other crises throughout your lifetime felt in the moment. Yet in hindsight, they ended up being excellent buying opportunities. This will likely prove to be a similar situation, and you can act on it according to your risk tolerance and budget.

Microsoft DirectX Raytracing 1.2 update promises to boost game performance significantly https://earlybirdsinvest.com/microsoft-directx-raytracing-1-2-update-promises-to-boost-game-performance-significantly/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/microsoft-directx-raytracing-1-2-update-promises-to-boost-game-performance-significantly/#respond Sat, 22 Mar 2025 09:58:07 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/microsoft-directx-raytracing-1-2-update-promises-to-boost-game-performance-significantly/

Forward-looking: Recent big game releases appear to confirm that ray tracing and path tracing are the future of graphics rendering. However, these techniques remain prohibitively computationally expensive. The next major update to Microsoft’s DirectX API aims to address this and facilitate broader adoption of the technology.

Microsoft’s GDC presentation this week offered a glimpse into the future of DirectX ray tracing support. The company claims that DirectX Raytracing 1.2 could help developers double the performance of ray tracing and path tracing.

Two key features underpin the update: opacity micromaps (OMM) and shader execution reordering (SER). OMM can help path-traced games run up to 2.3 times faster by reducing shader invocations and optimizing opacity data to enhance rendering efficiency. Meanwhile, SER intelligently groups shader execution to minimize divergence, improving performance by up to 2 times.

Although ray tracing first emerged as a flashy extra feature in games like Battlefield V and Cyberpunk 2077, recent titles have made it mandatory, indicating that it will soon become standard. Examples include Star Wars Outlaws, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Assassin’s Creed Shadows.

Path tracing is a more advanced form of ray tracing that significantly improves the accuracy of dynamic lighting and shadows but comes with substantial performance costs. It typically requires high-end GPUs to run effectively in games such as Cyberpunk 2077, Alan Wake 2, Black Myth: Wukong, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and the recently released Half-Life 2 RTX demo. Doom: The Dark Ages, launching in May, will also require ray tracing and offer optional path tracing.

Also see: Path Tracing vs. Ray Tracing, Explained

DirectX Raytracing 1.2 will become available to developers starting next month. As a result, ray tracing and path tracing could become significantly less demanding in new games over the next few years. Unsurprisingly, Nvidia’s RTX graphics cards will support the API update first, while Microsoft is collaborating with AMD, Intel, and Qualcomm to expand support.

Microsoft also shared more details on cooperative vectors and neural rendering, which aim to integrate AI workloads into real-time graphics rendering. A new foundational feature, Neural Block Texture Compression, significantly reduces memory usage – potentially benefiting users with GPUs that have 12 GB of VRAM or less. Additionally, neural supersampling and denoising are expected to enhance image quality in path-traced games.

DirectX neural rendering and cooperative vector support first appeared in January. Microsoft explained that neural rendering optimizes matrix-vector operations for AI training and enables smaller neural networks to run efficiently during GPU shading processes.
