Node Updates

MimbleWimbleCoin (MWC) v5.3.10

  • Transaction fee limits: safeguards to prevent unexpectedly high fees.
  • New “offline” mode: run in a mode better suited for cold wallet setups (prepare and sign transactions without network access).

We recommend upgrading if you use cold storage or routinely craft transactions for offline signing.

Ergo (ERG) 6.0.1

  • Versioned block transaction serializer since 6.0: ensures the correct serializer version is used going forward.
  • Candidate regeneration fixes: stability improvements while preparing block candidates.
  • Indexed node API additions: endpoint to fetch blocks with full transactions.
  • UTXO queries refined: option to exclude mempool-spent outputs across all “unspent” endpoints.
  • Unconfirmed TX detail: endpoint now returns full inputs with proofs for pending transactions.

This maintenance release focuses on correctness, API completeness, and smoother block candidate handling.

Zcash (ZEC) v6.3.0

Network Upgrade 6.1 (NU6.1) preparations are included in this release.

  • ZIP 271: Deferred Dev Fund Lockbox Disbursement.
  • ZIP 1016 (partial): Community and Coinholder Funding Model.
  • Activation (testnet): NU6.1 activates at height 3,536,500.
  • Regtest control: can be activated at a specific height using -nuparams=4dec4df0:HEIGHT.
  • Testing note: during the test phase, consensus rules may change; if so, testnet will be rolled back in v6.10.0 and re-activated a second time (see ZIP 255 for deployment process).

Bug fix: corrected accounting for unshielding transactions spending Orchard notes in transparent balance-related RPCs (e.g., getbalance, gettransaction), aligning behavior with earlier fixes for Sprout/Sapling.

Default updated: -preferredtxversion now defaults to 5 (NU5 format). Use -preferredtxversion=4 to retain the previous behavior.

Block Reward Reductions

Karlsen (KLS)

Per the Karlsencoin tokenomics and emission schedule, the block reward decreased:

  • Previous: 29.71 KLS
  • New: 28.89 KLS

Please pay attention! 2CryptoCalc has been updated accordingly.

Concerns over Trump’s conflict of interest are slowing the progress of broader crypto policy https://earlybirdsinvest.com/concerns-over-trumps-conflict-of-interest-are-slowing-the-progress-of-broader-crypto-policy/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/concerns-over-trumps-conflict-of-interest-are-slowing-the-progress-of-broader-crypto-policy/#respond Sun, 11 May 2025 01:16:49 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/concerns-over-trumps-conflict-of-interest-are-slowing-the-progress-of-broader-crypto-policy/

Discussions around the personal enrichment and potential conflict of interest arising from U.S. President Donald Trump’s crypto asset ventures gained steam over the past week. These concerns are slowing not only the progress of the stablecoin legislation but also broader crypto policy. The founder of fintech venture capital fund Launchpad Capital, Ryan Gilbert, told CNBC:

“It’s unfortunate that personal business is getting in the way of good policy…I would hope that everybody in the administration, including the president, gets out of the way of good policy.”

The stablecoin legislation, known as the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins (GENIUS) Act, aims to establish a regulatory framework for U.S. payment stablecoins.

The bill “is generally perceived to be the legislation that’s gonna be the easiest to get through,” Katrina Paglia, chief legal officer at venture capital firm Pantera Capital, told CNBC earlier this week. Therefore, Paglia was disappointed when the GENIUS Act failed to pass the Senate on Thursday with a 48-49 vote, but was not “surprised.”

Ethical concerns around Trump’s profits from crypto assets and ventures had blocked discussion of the draft U.S. crypto market structure bill scheduled for May 6. The market structure bill was introduced on Monday, aiming to provide much-needed regulatory clarity. The bill aimed to provide clear guidelines on how the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) would classify and oversee digital assets.

The sequence of events that raised conflict of interest concerns

Days before Trump’s inauguration, he launched the official $TRUMP memecoin, whose price spiked to an all-time high of $75 on Jan. 19, according to CryptoSlate data.

The price of $TRUMP fell rapidly after Trump’s inauguration, leading small investors to lose over $2 billion. Meanwhile, Trump-linked companies, which control 80% of the memecoin’s supply, earned around $100 million in trading fees by Jan. 30, Reuters reported in February.

In March, Trump family representatives were reportedly in talks to acquire a stake in the U.S. arm of Binance, which paid a historic fine after pleading guilty to violating anti-money laundering laws in 2023.

On March 13, the Senate Banking Committee passed the GENIUS Act. On March 25, World Liberty Financial, a decentralized finance project linked to the Trump family, announced plans to launch its own stablecoin, USD1.

The investment by Abu Dhabi-based investment giant MGX into Binance was announced on March 12. But on May 1, WLF co-founder confirmed that USD1 was selected to execute the transaction, according to Reuters. MGX is chaired by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE’s national security adviser and a brother of UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed. Abu Dhabi’s state-owned $330 billion wealth fund Mubadala, is a partner in MGX.

In late April, Trump invited the top 220 of his memecoin holders to a private audience at a gala dinner on May 22. At the time, Democratic U.S. senator for Georgia Jon Ossoff called the move an “impeachable offense.”

Earlier this week, the Financial Times reported that insiders made nearly $100 million by buying the memecoin of Melania Trump, the U.S. First Lady, hours before its public launch.

Past week intensified tensions around ‘Trump’s corruption’

The GENIUS Act was supposed to sail through. But last weekend, nine Senate Democrats, including four who previously voted for the bill, said they would withhold support if the bill was not revised to address national security and money laundering concerns.

On May 6, Congresswoman Maxine Waters (D-CA), the top Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee, used the time scheduled to discuss the crypto market structure bill to protest against “Trump’s corruption.” Waters stated that Trump made at least $350 million from his memecoin, adding:

“Trump ran on a campaign to put more money in the pockets of Americans—turns out he just meant his pockets and those of his cronies.”

At the same hearing, Chastity Murphy, senior advisor for financial institutions at the Treasury Department, said Trump’s crypto empire is a vehicle for “influence peddling, bribery, and regulatory capture.” Representative Stephen Lynch asserted that Trump has earned around $2.9 billion—nearly 40% of his wealth—from his crypto ventures.

On May 7, U.S. Senator Mark Kelly introduced the End Crypto Corruption Act to prohibit members of Congress and family members from “issuing, endorsing, or sponsoring crypto assets, such as meme coins and stablecoins.” He noted:

“Trump is cashing in on his presidency and making millions from his own crypto coins—this is corruption in broad daylight.”

In a letter on Friday, Democratic Senators urged Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Attorney General Pam Bondi to investigate Trump’s ties to Binance, Bloomberg reported. Meanwhile, former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ), who served four months in prison, has requested a pardon from Trump.

Senator Jeff Merkley told CNBC in a statement:

“Currently, people who wish to cultivate influence with the president can enrich him personally by buying cryptocurrency he owns or controls…This is a profoundly corrupt scheme.”

Despite the concerns, Senators from both parties have already started negotiating since the failed vote on Thursday and could vote on the GENIUS Act again as soon as next Monday. Most lawmakers expect the GENIUS Act to eventually pass the Senate and land on Trump’s desk, but the timeline is uncertain amid the conflict of interest concerns.

Bitcoin defi is a store of infrastructure progress and value: Kevin Farrely of Franklin Templeton https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-defi-is-a-store-of-infrastructure-progress-and-value-kevin-farrely-of-franklin-templeton/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-defi-is-a-store-of-infrastructure-progress-and-value-kevin-farrely-of-franklin-templeton/#respond Fri, 02 May 2025 16:53:59 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-defi-is-a-store-of-infrastructure-progress-and-value-kevin-farrely-of-franklin-templeton/

As the Dubai Token2049 Conference has concluded, one key point is that the story about Bitcoin (BTC) is rapidly expanding beyond its traditional role as a store worthy of potential defi assets competing with Ethereum and Solana.

Prominent industry players like Franklin Templeton see this development as a positive step and believe it will increase the usefulness of Bitcoin without diluting its core attraction as a valuable repository as a purist and maximalist fear.

“I don’t think that focusing on Bitcoin Defis will dilute or complicate the core story of Bitcoin,” explained Kevin Farrelly, principal of blockchain venture capital at Franklin Templeton and vice president of digital assets in a keynote address at the Bitcoin side event this week. “Instead, we’re extending Bitcoin utility for certain types of investors. This is technically refined enough to optimize for your yield, security, or custom portfolio needs.”

“These users are not replacing the essays in the ‘value store’. They’re building on that,” Ferally added. “It’s not diluting the story, it’s an evolution of infrastructure.”

Franklin Templeton is an investor in Bitlayer, a BitVM that functions as a calculation layer for Bitcoin while maintaining the security of the mainnet. It offers new features such as faster transaction processing, lower fees, smart contracts and advanced obligation integration, as well as features that are not natively supported by base layer Bitcoin alone.

Franklin Templeton’s Bitcoin ETF (EZBC) has registered a net inflow of $260 million since it debuted on January 11th last year. As of May 1, the fund had 5,213 BTC and has over $500 million in managed assets, slightly above $97,000 at Bitcoin’s current price.

Expansion beyond the value appeal store

Nakamoto’s original vision for the Bitcoin blockchain was driven by creating a decentralized financial system that promotes financial sovereignty and privacy, and by eliminating the need for intermediary in transactions. But over a decade since its founding, Bitcoin, the native cryptocurrency of blockchain, quickly gained a reputation as digital gold, a trusted storage for value.

Bbitcoin’s market capitalization today exceeds $1.9 trillion, with nearly 60% of the total market value of the digital asset market value at $3.12 trillion per Coindesk data. It is the most liquid cryptocurrency, with an average of billions of dollars in daily trading volumes around the world, and several publicly listed companies employ it as a reserve asset.

Additionally, several regulated alternative investment instruments associated with BTC have emerged over the years, allowing traditional market participants to be exposed to cryptocurrency.

For example, 11 spot ETFs listed in the US have raised nearly $40 billion in investor money since their debut last January, according to Data Source’s Farside Investors. Meanwhile, Ether ETFs saw net inflows of just under $3 billion.

The powerful institutional incorporation of BTC is widely attributed to its simple and compelling narrative as digital gold. It is an easy-to-understand asset compared to complex platforms such as Ethereum and Solana, and supports a broader array of distributed finance (DEFI) applications and use cases, helping native token holders get additional yields for spot market holdings.

“At the heart of it, it is considered a digital store of value,” Farrely told Koindsk. “Unlike more complex crypto projects, Bitcoin doesn’t require a deep technical explanation. It has a clear, focused purpose. Its clarity can be part of what makes it easier to model and assign ETFs.”

As a result, many purists resist the idea of introducing defi-like characteristics directly into the Bitcoin blockchain, fearing diluting the core attraction of Bitcoin.

The topics around Bitcoin defi at the Bitlayer event and main Token2049 conference are specific, highlighting the increased demand for BTC holders for additional yield opportunities.

“Bitcoin debt with minimal trust-minimized bridges, and sustainable yield products for on-chain Bitcoin holders are becoming extremely important for Bitcoin asset holders and network maintainers,” Bitlayer co-founder Charlie Yechuan Hu told Coindesk.

“At Bitlayer, we are building a critical infrastructure that can use BitVM technology to strengthen Bitcoin debt,” added Hu. “Many interesting Bitcoin debt use cases can make Bitcoin assets more valuable and provide more reasons for users to keep and use in the future.”

This BTC Defi trend could also benefit miners who are rewarded for mining blocks. Although rewards per block are halved every four years, an increase in activity in the chain driven by the Defi application will help offset this reduction through higher transaction fees, supporting network security and sustainability.

“Certainly, Bitcoin Defi is also introducing new transaction fees, which are key components of the long-term sustainability and security of the network as block rewards continue to decline,” Farrelly said.

Hu expressed a similar opinion. He said the rise in network hashrates means miners, like Bitcoin Defi, need more activities to maintain profitability.

“We need to build a great Bitcoin rollup with security verification capabilities that can cause Bitcoin fees,” Hu pointed out.

December Work Progress Report

Node Updates

Horizen (ZEN) 5.0.5

The Zend v5.0.5 update is now live. All nodes on the Mainnet must have been updated before December 12, 2024, as Zend v5.0.4 was deprecated at block #1679880. Zend v5.0.5 will remain active until its deprecation at block #1730680, expected on March 11, 2025. This update included bug fixes and minor changes, ensuring the network remains secure and reliable.

Cortex (CTXC) 1.10.61

Cortex released version 1.10.61, featuring multiple stability improvements and performance enhancements:

  • Enhanced database snapshots for better state management.
  • Bug fixes addressing flaky tests and state destruction issues.
  • Optimized chain events and header management for efficient synchronization.
  • New features like the DeleteRange functionality and support for prestateTracer configuration options.

Cortex mining

Ergo (ERG) 5.0.24

The Ergo update 5.0.24 includes critical fixes and optimizations:

  • Refactoring of Autolykos-related code for better efficiency.
  • Resolved issues with API crashes and transaction mempool management.
  • Enhanced support for upcoming Ergoscript changes post-6.0 activation.

Bitcoin Cash (BCH) v28.0.0

Bitcoin Cash Node v28.0.0 has been released in preparation for the May 15, 2025, network upgrade. Key highlights:

  • Introduction of CHIP-2021-05 for virtual machine limits and CHIP-2024-07 for high-precision arithmetic.
  • Improved p2p protocol with enhanced timestamp handling and port mapping support.
  • Expanded Script VM capabilities, including support for 80,000-bit integers.

Note: 32-bit architecture support has been dropped due to increasing resource demands.

Pyrin (PYI) Delisting

We regret to announce the delisting of Pyrin (PYI) from the 2Miners pool. As of December 20, 2024, at 07:00 UTC, PYI PPLNS and PYI SOLO operations have ceased. This decision was made after the developers abandoned the project, deleting all resources and leaving the community without support. We encourage PYI miners to use 2CryptoCalc to find alternative profitable coins to mine.

Nervos (CKB) Pool API Update

Nervos CKB miners can now enjoy enhanced pool features! We updated the API and statistics pages, enabling detailed hashrate and share statistics. You can also adjust the payout threshold directly in the CKB pool. If the changes don’t appear, clear your browser cache with Shift+Ctrl+R (or Shift+Command+R on macOS).

Bitcoin and Toncoin Payouts for Multiple Coins

Great news for Bitcoin Gold (BTG) miners! Bitcoin and Toncoin payouts are now available. Simply set your BTC or TON wallet address in your mining software, and the pool will handle the rest. Note that payouts may take up to 3 days due to BTG deposit rules on crypto exchanges.

Toncoin payouts have also been added for the following pools:

Block Reward Reductions

December saw major block reward reductions for these coins:

  • Horizen (ZEN): Block reward halved from 3.75 ZEN to 1.875 ZEN.
  • Kaspa (KAS): Block reward reduced from 77.78 KAS to 73.41 KAS.

These reductions are part of their respective tokenomics and emission schedules. Use 2CryptoCalc to estimate your mining rewards effectively.

2024 Wrap-Up and Best Wishes for 2025

As 2024 ends, we celebrate a historic milestone: Bitcoin reached $100,000 on December 5, 2024, marking a new era for cryptocurrency. The crypto market is growing, and mining remains profitable. A regular GPU is still enough to earn Bitcoins, and 2025 promises even more opportunities.

We plan to introduce new coins to the 2Miners pool, supporting emerging projects and fostering innovation in the mining community. Stay tuned for more updates!

Happy New Year! Let’s make 2025 another remarkable year for cryptocurrency and mining. Ho! Ho! Ho! Happy Mining! 🎅

January 2025 Work Progress Report: Changes to BTC Payouts for Bitcoin Gold Mining https://earlybirdsinvest.com/january-2025-work-progress-report-changes-to-btc-payouts-for-bitcoin-gold-mining/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/january-2025-work-progress-report-changes-to-btc-payouts-for-bitcoin-gold-mining/#respond Fri, 28 Mar 2025 23:23:11 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/january-2025-work-progress-report-changes-to-btc-payouts-for-bitcoin-gold-mining/

January Work Progress Report

Bitcoin (BTC) Payouts Disabled for Bitcoin Gold (BTG) Mining

Previously, miners had the option to receive Bitcoin (BTC) payouts while mining Bitcoin Gold (BTG) through the Gate.io exchange. However, due to Gate.io discontinuing BTG deposits in the coming days, we will no longer support BTC payouts for BTG mining.

Effective immediately, all BTG mining payouts will be made exclusively in BTG.

What This Means for Miners:

  • New BTG mining payouts will be processed in BTG only.
  • Pending BTC payouts from recent days will still be processed, provided the exchange completes the necessary deposit transactions.

We understand that changes like this can be inconvenient, and we appreciate your understanding as we adapt to evolving exchange policies.

Node Updates

Zcash (ZEC) v6.1.0

The latest Zcash update, version 6.1.0, is a maintenance release designed to ensure the smooth operation of the network. This update sets a new end-of-service height, ensuring continued network functionality without disruptions. All Zcash miners are encouraged to update to this version to maintain uninterrupted mining.

Zephyr Protocol v2.0.2 – ZSD Yield (Hotfix)

The Zephyr Protocol has introduced version 2.0.2 as an emergency hotfix release, specifically targeting mining pools. This is a required update, and mining pools must upgrade to this version immediately.

Exchanges have been advised to keep deposits and withdrawals suspended for the time being. Regular desktop users do not need to update, as a larger chain audit update is expected soon.

Hardfork v7 Activation:

  • Activated at block 433000.
  • Includes a crucial security update to address an issue discovered prior to the full audit update.
  • Details of the hotfix will be disclosed after the transition to v7 is complete.

We strongly recommend all mining pools running Zephyr to update immediately to ensure network stability.

Block Reward Reductions

January 2025 saw scheduled block reward reductions for multiple cryptocurrencies in accordance with their emission schedules. The updated rewards are as follows:

Kaspa (KAS)

  • Previous Block Reward: 73.41 KAS
  • New Block Reward: 69.29 KAS

Ergo (ERG)

  • Previous Block Reward: 21 ERG
  • New Block Reward: 18 ERG

Karlsen (KLS)

  • Previous Block Reward: 35.15 KLS
  • New Block Reward: 34.19 KLS

These reductions are part of the ongoing emission schedules for each network. To calculate potential mining rewards after these changes, visit 2CryptoCalc.

As always, stay updated through our X (Twitter) and Telegram miner community. Happy mining!
