The school bell rings, and Jimmy Bill Bob is sprinting home, backpack flopping around, one shoelace basically giving up on existence.

Homework? What homework?.. 🤨 This kid’s thinking ’bout that binder in his bag, stuffed with Pokémon cards.

He crashes through the front door, yeets his backpack onto the couch, and doesn’t even bother changing out of his crusty school uniform.

Ten minutes later, his friends pull up – X Æ A-12 with his shoebox full of cards, Candice with her deck held together by rubber bands, and Chad, whose older brother “knows the best trades.”

They spread everything out on the living room floor. It’s messy, it’s loud, and nobody actually knows the real rules. But who cares – it’s the best time of their lives right there.

Fast forward years later, and those cards that brought Jimmy Bill Bob so much joy are now bringing numbers to his net worth – because the Pokémon card market’s now a multibillion-dollar industry.

And these cards might do more than just make our boy JBB rich – some believe they could be crypto’s next big breakthrough.

Danny Nelson, a research analyst at Bitwise, thinks that Pokémon cards might be the first real-world asset (RWA) to move onto blockchain at a massive scale.

Tea

Think about what’s getting tokenized today – government bonds, real estate, gold.

Sure, putting these on blockchain makes trading cheaper and faster, but those markets already have pretty good digital systems. Crypto makes them more efficient, but it’s not really transforming anything fundamental.

Pokémon cards are completely different. This market runs almost entirely IRL: most trades still happen by mailing cards to each other, dealing with professional grading services, and waiting days or weeks for everything to settle.

Wildly inefficient, but the demand is still massive.

And that opens an opportunity 👀

Image of Lenny from the Simpsons looking intrigued

The Solana-based platform Collector Crypt is trying to fix the inefficiencies by letting people tokenize their physical cards.

You ship in your Charizard, they lock it in a secure vault, and mint an NFT that proves you own it. From there, you can trade the NFT around → no more risk of damage or scams during shipping.

And the numbers suggest people are actually using this thing:

👉 Since launching, CollectorCrypt has minted over 30K NFTs;

👉 Processed nearly $81M in pack purchases;

👉 And attracted 4.3K+ buyers.

To keep users engaged, they’ve added features like the Gacha machine – where you deposit money and get a random tokenized Pokémon card back. This alone made $16.6M in sales last week.

And they also recently launched a token called CARDS, which powers the platform. The money raised from sales goes into buying more Pokémon cards, so the token essentially gives exposure to the card market.

Since it went live, the token’s price is up ~30%.

That said, only 20% of the tokens are in the hands of the community – most belong to early investors. If they sell, the token will only stay strong if there are enough new buyers.

Anyways, Nelson’s point is that you have a huge market that’s broken, and blockchain might actually fix it.

And he says this could turn Pokémon cards into crypto’s next big success story, similar to how Polymarket turned prediction markets from something niche into a mainstream crypto use case.

Optimistic take? Could be.

👉 After all, many card collectors like physically holding their cards. Digital tokens can’t replace that experience.

👉 Plus, most of the hype rn comes from crypto traders looking for something new to bet on, not collectors. The real test is whether people who actually collect cards will use these platforms.

If they do, this could be huge.

If not, it might just be another crypto trend with some impressive early numbers.

Pokémon Cards May Be Headed Onchain, Says Bitwise Analyst https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pokemon-cards-may-be-headed-onchain-says-bitwise-analyst/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pokemon-cards-may-be-headed-onchain-says-bitwise-analyst/#respond Sat, 06 Sep 2025 00:55:28 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pokemon-cards-may-be-headed-onchain-says-bitwise-analyst/

Pokémon cards, often sold through informal deals and shipped between collectors, could be the next real-world assets to move to the blockchain in a meaningful way.

According to a post on X by Bitwise research analyst Danny Nelson, unlike traditional financial products, card markets still depend heavily on physical delivery, which could make them a better fit for on-chain upgrades.

Nelson pointed out that trading cards still face practical challenges. For example, if someone sells a rare Pokémon card, such as Charizard or Pikachu, they usually have to mail it, insure it, and wait for the buyer to receive it. That process is slow and often risky.

Despite this, platforms like Whatnot handled around $3 billion worth of card sales last year, which showed strong demand in a market that still lacks formal investment products.

Nelson said:

There are no Pokémon ETFs or structured funds yet, but that may change sooner than expected.

New blockchain tools are already being tested. Collector Crypt, a recently launched tokenization platform built on Solana
SOL

$203.60

, allows users to trade Pokémon cards digitally. This removes the need for physical delivery and helps sellers enter and exit positions faster.

Nelson stated that the platform’s token, called CARDS, has reached a fully diluted valuation of around $450 million since its launch.

Meanwhile, the Tron blockchain community voted on a proposal that could reduce user fees. What was the result? Read the full story.

Speculation that the Pokémon franchise could make its leap onto the Sui blockchain is fueling a price spike in Sui’s native token. SUI has rallied more than 63% over the past four days, climbing from $3.10 to $3.42, even as Bitcoin gained a comparatively modest 7% in the same period.

SUI x Pokémon?

Market observers trace SUI’s outperformance to a cluster of social-media posts that connect the dots between The Pokémon Company’s latest update to its Pokémon HOME mobile app and recent disclosures from the Sui ecosystem. On April 23, Pokémon HOME added a medal-collection feature and—crucially—quietly amended its privacy policy to include Parasol Technologies as an approved developer permitted to receive user data. Parasol, a blockchain-gaming studio, was recently acquired by Mysten Labs, the core development team behind the Sui network.

Within hours, prominent crypto commentators amplified the coincidence. TylerD (@Tyler_Did_It) told followers: “Pokémon on Sui? The rumor mill is working overtime on this one. Today, Pokémon HOME had a privacy policy update which includes a new developer—Parasol Technologies. Mysten Labs owns Parasol—and is also the developer behind Sui. Not too hard to start connecting these dots…”

Shotgun (@shotguncaio), founder of The Espresso Shot, pointed to a since-deleted Sui Foundation blog entry that, according to screenshots, briefly mentioned Pokémon-branded NFTs: “The official Sui Foundation blog confirmed (and removed) Pokémon NFTs. … When Parasol Technologies—owned by Mysten Labs, the company behind Sui—was included in their privacy policy, the rumors became more intense. … Those ‘medals’ are tradable, unique digital items with distinct codes and serial numbers rather than SBTs (soulbound tokens). In my opinion, this adds an element of excitement by introducing a trading layer.”

Ashen (@solashenone), founder of Kamai Finance, emphasized the corporate links: “Mysten Labs owns SUI and recently acquired Parasol Labs. Parasol Labs is listed as a dev in the new Pokémon HOME game. Could this be because Ashen one is heavily invested in Pokémon cards and SUI now?”

Gaming Daily (@GamingDailyx) summarized the emerging narrative for a broader gaming audience: “RUMOR: Pokémon x Sui. Pokémon might be closer to Web3 than we think. Parasol Technologies now listed in Pokémon HOME’s privacy policy. Parasol is owned by Mysten Labs, the creators of Sui. No comments yet from Nintendo or TPC.”

Beyond social media, a separate report detailing the April 23 app update underscored why Parasol’s name matters. While the Sui Foundation’s blog post of the same day announced that Parasol will launch trading-card games such as Capybara Fusion and Code of Joker: Evolutions on Sui, it made no mention of Pokémon.

Nevertheless, the proximity of the announcements—and the franchise’s history with collectible assets—has stoked expectations that Pokémon’s sprawling intellectual-property empire could experiment with tokenized items on Sui.

The Pokémon brand commands one of the most valuable trading-card markets in the world; in 2022, YouTuber Logan Paul paid $5.275 million for a single Pikachu Illustrator card in a private sale that set a world record. Yet blockchain integrations have historically met fan resistance: a 2023 Pokémon Company job post seeking candidates familiar with NFTs generated swift backlash from long-time players.

Neither Nintendo, The Pokémon Company, nor Mysten Labs has issued an official statement on any Pokémon-related blockchain initiative. The absence of confirmation has not dampened momentum in the SUI market, where traders appear willing to price in even a slim probability of a Pokémon partnership.

At press time, SUI traded at $3.54.

Pokémon Meets AI: Claude 3.7 Sonnet Wins Faster Than Older Models https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pokemon-meets-ai-claude-3-7-sonnet-wins-faster-than-older-models/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pokemon-meets-ai-claude-3-7-sonnet-wins-faster-than-older-models/#respond Sun, 02 Mar 2025 12:34:12 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pokemon-meets-ai-claude-3-7-sonnet-wins-faster-than-older-models/

Anthropic’s latest artificial intelligence (AI) model, Claude 3.7 Sonnet, has taken on a new challenge—playing Pokémon.

According to the company, this AI version can defeat in-game opponents much faster than its predecessors.

In a February 25 post on X, Anthropic shared that an early version of Claude 3.7 Sonnet managed to beat its first major opponent, Brock, within hours of starting. A few days later, it won against Misty. The company noted that older AI models struggled with this level of progress.

Claude 3.7 Sonnet plays by keeping track of what happens in the game, analyzing the screen, and using function calls to make moves.

Unlike previous models, which often got stuck or wandered aimlessly, this version plans its moves carefully and adjusts its strategy as it plays.

The company also linked to a Twitch channel called “ClaudePlaysPokemon”, where people can watch the AI in action. They explained that small adjustments helped the model “see” the screen better, which allowed it to play more effectively.

Anthropic added that the company sees the Claude 3.7 Sonnet’s ability as an early sign of AI tackling challenges more effectively, using not just training but also general reasoning abilities.

Recently, a video shared on X of two AI agents talking to each other caught people’s attention. Why? Read the full story.
