A dating safety app designed to protect women has exposed the very users it promised to shield. Tea, which recently topped Apple’s App Store charts, suffered a data breach that leaked 13,000 verification photos and government IDs of its female users, as reported by NBC News.

The hack came after users on 4chan called for a “hack and leak” campaign against the platform. Tea requires women to submit selfies and identification to verify their gender before they can join the service, where they share information about men they’ve dated, marking them as “red flags” or “green flags.”

The company confirmed that attackers accessed a two-year-old database containing approximately 72,000 images. A Tea spokesperson told NBC News the stored data “was originally stored in compliance with law enforcement requirements related to cyberbullying prevention.”

Tea was created by Sean Cook after witnessing his mother’s “terrifying experience with online dating,” including encounters with catfishers and men with undisclosed criminal records.

The breach has already had real-world consequences. Users on 4chan and X have been sharing the stolen photos, and someone created a Google Map showing coordinates of affected Tea users, though without names or addresses.

“Protecting our users’ privacy and data is our highest priority. Tea is taking every necessary step to ensure the security of our platform and prevent further exposure,” the Tea spokesperson told NBC News. Are they going to hire security details for all 13,000 women who’ve been doxxed?

If you’ve been keeping up with I/O 2025, you’d know Google is working on a new Android redesign, and some new code might’ve shown it off for one app.

In a recent Google Photos version deep dive by tipster AssembleDebug (Android Authority), the expected Material 3 Expressive redesign was reportedly found. One of the major changes concerns how Google Photos displays your most recent Memories. There’s a new, colorful card at the beginning of the carousel, encouraging users to “make a new memory” for a holiday or perhaps another significant event.

The same rectangular design remains for these cards; however, these cards no longer fully display a preview image. Instead, the tipster claims Google will display these cards with a heart-shaped cutout. Inside is a glimpse of the Memory with its title outside of the heart at the top.

The coloring of Google Photos leans against your device’s current Material theme for its loading animations and bottom bar.

The tipster states that while Google’s code suggests its expected “Expressive” redesign has progressed, there’s still more. The post claims the Photos app should receive a “floating bottom bar” and “rounded image preview.” The latter will also reportedly come with a slight collage-style redesign to display your pictures.

Android 16’s getting Expressive

Considering Google still has more to do, when users can expect this is still up in the air. Either the company will roll this redesign out separately, or it will tie into its major Android 16 release.

Right after Google wrapped up I/O 2025 yesterday (May 20), Android 16 QPR1 Beta 1 appeared for Pixel owners. While the QPR release holds a few platform features and bug fixes, the biggest hot topic was the introduction of Material 3 Expressive, Google’s new design language. Google says Expressive will be more vibrant and “engaging on an emotional level.”

Much of Android 16’s UI will change how users interact with it. The notification shade gets a revamp while the quick toggle section gains more room for 12 or more icons. Google also states Gmail will receive a major design overhaul, bringing it more in line with the rest of its Expressive plans.

If you’re looking for a round-up, the biggest announcements from I/O 2025 include even more Gemini AI and Android XR. The company put a spotlight on Gemini 2.5 and its major improvements, which Google says will make the model its “most intelligent” one yet. Gemini 2.5 is receiving upgrades courtesy of Deep Think and Flash. On the other hand, Google Search and Project Astra will more closely work together for better live/visual multimodal searches.

In brief: Just when you think Amazon couldn’t possibly find another way to sell you stuff, the company comes up with something else: shopping links embeded in your photo library images. In essence, the feature lets you identify an item within a photograph in your Amazon Photos library and be directed to its store page.

Former Microsoft executive Panos Panay, now senior vice president of Amazon’s Devices and Services division, announced the update to Amazon Photos on Threads.

Panay’s post included a clip demonstrating the upgraded features. It starts with a generative AI search using a natural language query – “Max playing with robot dog,” in this case. This brings up several images in the user’s Amazon Photos library featuring the boy and the device.

The system works by selecting one of the images and then tapping the Lens icon underneath. This scans the photo and brings up Amazon store listings for visually similar items it identifies, such as the robot dog, allowing you to view its customer rating and price. From here, you can go directly to the store page for more information and to purchase an item – if desired.

Amazon says the feature is ideal for anyone who may have seen a product in an image and wanted one themselves, but didn’t know what it was called or where to find it.

Amazon’s help page doesn’t specifically say if turning off the Tag Photos feature will stop the shopping capabilities from working. Amazon’s Tag Photos and Tag Specific People tools use image recognition technology to analyze and apply tags to your photos and videos, allowing users to sort and search their photos by people, objects, actions, and scenes – as demonstrated by Panay.

There appear to be contradictory claims on how many people were asking for this new shopping feature, varying from everyone to virtually no one outside of Amazon. The replies to Panay’s post include some that are positive, with people noting its usefulness, along with negative ones arguing that this is basically product ads based on a user’s photos.
