Argentina’s opposition parties have revived a stalled investigation into President Javier Milei’s role in the LIBRA scandal, seizing on new corruption allegations that have rattled the government just weeks before October’s elections.

The commission, first created in April but largely paralyzed by bureaucratic and congressional hurdles, was reactivated on Aug. 28 after leaked recordings implicated Milei and his sister Karina in a separate bribery scheme.

The tapes, belonging to former presidential attorney and government official Diego Spagnuolo, contained claims of cash-for-favors dealings. Spagnuolo later admitted the recordings were authentic.

Public backlash fuels probe

The scandal has triggered a wave of public anger. On Wednesday, protesters hurled lettuce and rubbish at Milei during a public appearance, an act that drew headlines across the country.

While no injuries were reported, the incident highlights mounting unrest against the president’s administration. The fresh controversy has given the LIBRA probe new momentum. It had lost traction after Milei dissolved its initial task force in May.

The LIBRA affair centers on allegations of insider trading and a pump-and-dump scheme tied to the digital token, a case prosecutors say may have involved Argentina’s highest levels of power.

Maximiliano Ferraro, a legislator from the Civic Coalition ARI and head of the new investigative body, said the commission intends to establish whether misconduct occurred. Ferraro said the investigation was reignited because questions remain over whether insider trading took place.

Political stakes ahead of elections

Five opposition parties, representing 136 of the Chamber of Deputies’ 257 lawmakers, voted to reopen the case despite pushback from Milei’s allies.

The commission set a reporting deadline of Nov. 10, weeks after Argentines head to the polls.

The inquiry adds to the mounting challenges facing Milei as he navigates a presidency already strained by economic turmoil and growing discontent. The combination of corruption scandals and revived investigations could weigh heavily on his political future.

While the LIBRA scandal has shaken Argentina’s crypto community, the broader allegations of bribery and abuse of power have struck a deeper chord with the public. With elections looming, the outcome of the investigation, and its political fallout, remains uncertain.

Ether Soars In August—But Will September Spoil The Party? https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ether-soars-in-august-but-will-september-spoil-the-party/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ether-soars-in-august-but-will-september-spoil-the-party/#respond Sun, 24 Aug 2025 21:16:39 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ether-soars-in-august-but-will-september-spoil-the-party/

Ethereum’s rally this month has been sharp, but traders are being warned to watch September closely.

Related Reading

Ether climbed about 20% since the start of August, trading at $4,745 at the time of publication. Prices even pierced $4,860 after dovish remarks from US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell at the Jackson Hole symposium, a move that many in crypto see as a possible spark for more gains.

Historic September Pullbacks

According to CoinGlass, history offers a cautionary note: there have been only three cases since 2016 where Ether rose in August and then slid in September.

In 2017, Ether jumped 92% in August and then dropped 20% the following month. In 2020, August gains of 25% were followed by a 17% pullback in September.

And in 2021, a 35% climb in August gave way to a 12% slip in September. CryptoGoos, a trader on X, summed it up bluntly: seasonality in September during post-halving years tends to be negative.

That pattern does not mean a repeat is guaranteed. Reports have disclosed that both market structure and investor profiles are different now than in those earlier years.

In 2016 and 2020, short-term losses in September were followed by multi-month recoveries, with Ether posting upside in the final three months of those years. So while history matters, it does not decide outcomes on its own.

New Money, New Dynamics

Flows into spot Ether ETFs this month have been large enough to grab attention. Based on reports from Farside, spot Ether ETFs saw roughly $2.70 billion net inflows in August, while spot Bitcoin ETFs experienced about $1.2 billion in net outflows over the same period.

Ethereum is now trading at $4,795. Chart: TradingView

At the same time, companies that hold crypto on their balance sheets now control a sizable chunk of Ether. Reports show total Ether held by treasury companies topped $13 billion in value on Aug. 11.

Arkham reported that BitMine chairman Tom Lee bought another $45 million of Ether, lifting BitMine’s stack to $7 billion.

Those numbers change the math. Big institutional stacks and ETF demand can make sharp, short-term moves more persistent than in prior cycles.

Capital appears to be rotating; Bitcoin dominance has fallen 5% over the past 30 days to 55%, which market participants mostly attribute to funds moving into assets beyond Bitcoin.

What Traders Might Do Next

Traders and portfolio managers will likely keep an eye on macro signals and flow data. A softer interest rate outlook from Powell is a bullish factor for risk assets, but seasonality and previous post-August declines are reasons to stay cautious.

Remember Blankos Block Party—the colourful online game filled with vinyl toy characters that made waves a few years ago?

If you were following gaming trends, you might recall when it burst onto the scene as one of the first mainstream titles to experiment with blockchain technology. A lot has happened since then!

Here’s a closer look at what made the game stand out, why it disappeared from PC gaming, and what might be next.

Key Insights

  • Blankos introduced “playable NFTs” through customisable digital toys owned via blockchain
  • Blankos is the first web3 game on the Epic Games Store in 2022 and collaborated with major brands
  • The PC version was sunset in December 2023 as Mythical Games pivoted to mobile
  • Blockchain features were fully integrated but optional—85% of transactions used fiat currency
  • User-generated content and resale royalties gave players creative and financial stake
  • In 2023–2024, the game transitioned to the Polkadot blockchain

Where did Blankos Block Party come from?

Blankos Starts (2018–2020)

Blankos began as a passion project from Mythical Games, a studio formed by industry veterans who had worked on franchises like Call of Duty and Skylanders. When the game was revealed at SXSW 2019, it gained attention for its bold concept—a colourful world of digital vinyl toys that players could truly own.

In 2019 and 2020, Mythical continued developing the game, launching a private beta and offering “Founder’s Packs” that granted early access and exclusive Blanko NFTs, starting at around $25.

The beta launched on Windows, with future plans for Mac and console versions. Trailers pulled in hundreds of thousands of views, and mainstream gaming sites like IGN took notice.

Momentum Builds (2021–2022)

The game opened to the public in June 2021 through early access and surpassed one million registered players by the end of the year—impressive for a blockchain-based title.

This growth phase saw Mythical secure $75 million in funding, revamp the game’s social hub, and roll out an in-game marketplace where players could buy and sell collectibles.

Brand collaborations also ramped up. Burberry released a limited-edition Blanko, whilst Deadmau5 contributed his own character. These weren’t just marketing stunts—they represented a unique blend of gaming, fashion, music, and blockchain.

In September 2022, Blankos made headlines again by becoming the first blockchain game to launch on the Epic Games Store. That moment followed a year of negotiations with Epic to handle age ratings and blockchain policies.

The full launch introduced Season One, adding new modes, character classes, and power-ups. A partnership with Toho brought Godzilla, Mothra, and MechaGodzilla into the game as limited-edition characters.

Platform Shift (2023–Now)

In 2023, Blankos continued to evolve with new content. Season Two introduced redesigned characters, progression systems, battle royale modes, and crafting mechanics. Updates to the social hub kept the multiplayer experience lively.

Then came a major shift. Mythical Games announced that it would sunset the PC version to focus on mobile. CEO John Linden explained that acquiring new PC players had become too costly, while mobile presented a clearer growth opportunity.

PC servers shut down on December 18, 2023. Longtime players were given a commemorative NFT and reassured that their collections would transfer to the upcoming mobile version.

That same year, Blankos moved to the Polkadot blockchain, which offered faster transactions and lower fees. The switch aligned the game with Mythical’s other titles, such as NFL Rivals, laying the groundwork for potential cross-game features in the future.

How did Blankos impact NFT gaming?

Blankos Block Party played a key role in shaping the early NFT gaming space.

It helped bring the idea of “playable NFTs” into the mainstream, presenting itself as a fun multiplayer experience that used blockchain technology behind the scenes. Most players never needed a crypto wallet or any blockchain knowledge, and over 85% of transactions used regular US dollars.

As the first blockchain title to launch on the Epic Games Store—especially at a time when Steam had banned such games—Blankos opened doors for other web3 games. Mythical’s collaboration with Epic set standards for future launches, like Engines of Fury arriving on the store in 2025.

Blankos also stood out for its user-generated content. Like Roblox, it let players create and share their own levels using easy-to-use tools. But unlike traditional platforms, blockchain integration meant creators could design and sell unique collectibles, earning royalties on every resale. It showed how blockchain could reward creativity in practical, ongoing ways.

Brand collaborations were another area where Blankos led the charge. Limited-edition releases from Burberry and Deadmau5 sold out quickly, proving that luxury and entertainment brands could find real value in NFT-based in-game content. It validated NFTs as more than speculation—they could be desirable digital merchandise integrated into gameplay.

What’s it like to play Blankos Block Party?

At its core, Blankos was a party game built around creativity, character customisation, and social interaction.

Characters and Customization

Players controlled stylised vinyl toy characters—Blankos—each of which was a tradable NFT. These characters could be earned, purchased, or swapped, and came with accessories and outfits made in collaboration with real-world artists and brands.

Levelling up Blankos unlocked new abilities, and the game included a “mash-up” system that allowed players to combine Blankos to create rarer variants.

The Unboxing Mechanic

A key feature was the unboxing mechanic. New Blankos arrived in virtual boxes you could keep them mint-in-box (like a pristine collectible) or “unbox” them to start playing.

Once opened, they couldn’t be reboxed, adding an element of scarcity over time.

Different Game Modes

The game featured several competitive modes:

  • Fast-paced races with parkour elements
  • Shooter style where Blankos tagged each other with toy-like weapons
  • Collection challenges that sent users exploring for vibrant tokens
  • Battle royale matches added in later seasons

These modes were accessed through a central multiplayer hub where players could also hang out, chat, and complete quests.

User-Generated Content

Blankos’ Build Mode gave players tools to create their own game levels—no coding required.

Community creations ranged from simple racetracks to elaborate platforming challenges. Mythical regularly spotlighted standout builds, encouraging creativity and variety.

Marketplace and Economy

The in-game NFT marketplace allowed players to trade characters and items, mostly using fiat currency.

Mythical provided a custodial wallet system by default, making blockchain transactions seamless for newcomers. Advanced users could connect external wallets for more control. Crucially, every sale included a royalty fee—so creators or collaborating brands continued to benefit from secondary sales.

What’s next for Blankos Block Party?

With the PC version now offline, the focus has shifted entirely to mobile. Mythical is building more than a simple port—they’re aiming for a fully redesigned mobile experience, with touch controls and game modes tailored to mobile users.

If successful, Blankos could become one of the first mainstream web3 games to thrive on mobile. That would be no small feat, given the difficult approval process for crypto-adjacent apps. Other projects, such as Nakamoto Games, are already preparing mobile releases, suggesting that this could be the next big wave in web3 gaming.

The move to Polkadot also introduces technical benefits, like faster and cheaper transactions—key improvements for mobile scalability. Now that Blankos shares infrastructure with other Mythical titles, there’s also potential for shared assets and crossover events. In the future, items from Blankos might appear in NFL Rivals, or vice versa.

Polkadot’s focus on interoperability means the game could eventually bridge to external marketplaces like OpenSea, making it possible for players to sell or display their collections outside Mythical’s ecosystem.

Players continue to hope for a return to PC or even a console release. Whilst nothing has been confirmed, Blankos’ format could easily translate to platforms like PlayStation or Xbox—if those platforms become more open to NFTs and digital collectibles, as others like Moonray prepare for console launches in 2025.

A Defining Chapter in Web3 Gaming

Blankos Block Party has played a significant role in the evolution of blockchain gaming.

From its early days in 2018 to a multi-year run on PC and now a pivot to mobile, it has consistently pushed boundaries. It introduced millions of players to the idea of digital ownership, championed creator economies, and showed how brand partnerships could live inside game worlds—not just outside them.

Whilst the PC shutdown marked the end of a chapter, it wasn’t the end of the story. The move to mobile and Polkadot represents a strategic shift, not a retreat. Blankos may no longer be the only web3 game in the spotlight, but it will likely be remembered as one of the first to combine blockchain, creativity, and mainstream appeal in a way that actually worked.

Whether or not the mobile version becomes a breakout hit, Blankos has already earned its place in gaming history.

for contributions.

The announcement came after a poll on X, where over 1.24 million users voted on whether he should start a party. Nearly two-thirds supported the idea, and Musk moved forward with the plan.

When someone on X asked if the party would support Bitcoin, Musk replied, “Fiat is hopeless, so yes”.

Musk’s decision to form a new party followed a disagreement with President Donald Trump. He has opposed Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill”, a proposal expected to increase US debt by $3.3 trillion over the next ten years.

He also criticized the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which aimed to reduce the national debt. Musk pointed out the contradiction between promoting debt reduction while supporting a bill that adds trillions in new spending.

After announcing the America Party, he said the country does not truly have a two-party system. Instead, he claimed, both major parties allow wasteful spending to continue without serious debate.

President Trump stated that the party could divide the Republican vote and hurt the party’s chances in the 2026 midterm elections.

Meanwhile, Musk’s artificial intelligence (AI) company, xAI, recently raised $10 billion. What is the purpose of this funding? Read the full story.

Elon Musk has stirred up Washington by announcing that his yet‑to‑be‑registered “The American Party” will back Bitcoin. His move comes as he takes aim at what he calls wasteful government spending and vows to shake up the status quo.

Musk’s short statement—that “fiat is hopeless”—has already sent ripples through both political and crypto circles.

Musk Launches Political Bid

According to Musk’s recent tweet, his new centrist party will start by fielding candidates for the US Senate and House. He’s on record saying he won’t jump straight to a White House run.

Instead, he plans to build out support at the state level first. This measured approach reflects the massive effort needed to get on ballots: most states demand tens of thousands of signatures for each race. Musk will need a ground game rivaling established parties.

Bitcoin Figures Front And Center

Based on reports, Musk isn’t just talking the talk. Two of his companies, Tesla and SpaceX, hold a combined 19,794 BTC—11,509 at Tesla and 8,285 at SpaceX.

That stash is worth about $2.1 billion at current prices. He’s also said he personally holds Bitcoin, Ethereum and Dogecoin. By tying his political project to Bitcoin, Musk is likely appealing to the same audience that powered US President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign on crypto buzz.

The price of Bitcoin has barely budged on the news. The coin sits at $108,772, showing no clear spike or dip. Traders seem to view this more as another Musk headline than a sign of concrete policy change.

Volatility has hit 30 % swings in recent months, so any real plan to take campaign funds or taxes in Bitcoin would face tough questions about price swings.

Bitcoin is expected to play a major role in Musk's political push. Image: FXEmpire

Regulatory And Logistical Hurdles

Based on public filings, no “Department of Government Efficiency” exists—Musk’s DOGE jibe is just a nod to Dogecoin fans. Actual agencies like the IRS and SEC would need to weigh in if a political party tried to use Bitcoin for donations or payments.

US campaign finance laws cap donations and demand strict reporting. Converting crypto to cash quickly, especially during sell‑offs, could trigger accounting nightmares.

BTCUSD now trading at $108,847. Chart: TradingView

Getting on ballots is another mountain. Each state has unique rules on deadlines, forms and signature thresholds. Some require petitions submitted more than a year before an election.

Musk will have to hire or mobilize coordinate teams to track hundreds of deadlines. Failure in just one key state could keep him off that state’s ballot entirely.

The real test will come if Musk files party paperwork and publishes a plan for handling crypto volatility and compliance.

5 questions about a potential Democratic Tea Party, answered https://earlybirdsinvest.com/5-questions-about-a-potential-democratic-tea-party-answered/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/5-questions-about-a-potential-democratic-tea-party-answered/#respond Mon, 07 Jul 2025 04:53:42 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/5-questions-about-a-potential-democratic-tea-party-answered/

Last weekend, my colleague Christian Paz wrote about how the Democratic Party could be on the brink of a grassroots takeover, similar to what the GOP experienced with the Tea Party movement. It’s a fascinating piece that could have huge ramifications for Democratic politics, so I sat down with him to chat about his reporting for Vox’s daily newsletter, Today, Explained.

Our conversation is below, and you can sign up for the newsletter here for more conversations like this.

Hey, Christian, how are you? Remind us what the original Tea Party was. What is this movement we’re talking about?

The movement that I’m talking about started before Obama was elected. It was a mostly libertarian, grassroots, localized, not-that-big movement — a reaction to the bailouts at the end of the Bush administration. The idea being there’s too much deficit spending and government is becoming way too big and becoming unmoored from constitutional limited-government principles.

It evolved when Obama was elected into a broader anti-Obama backlash and then a major explosion because of the Affordable Care Act fights. It basically turned into an effort to primary incumbent Republicans, an effort to move the party more toward this wing and eventually try to win back control of Congress.

After it took off, what happened to the GOP?

They were able to win, I believe, five out of the 10 Senate seats that they were challenging. Something like 40 members of Congress were Tea Party-affiliated.

The primary thing was that they were successful in massively mobilizing Republican voters and getting people to turn out in the 2010 midterms, which turned out to be one of the biggest “shellackings,” as Obama called it, that Democrats or that any incumbent president and their party had sustained. Democrats lost control of the House and lost seats in the Senate, and that was a massive setback.

From then on, what happened was a successful move by more conservative primary challengers in future elections, the most iconic one being in 2014 — the primary that ousted Eric Cantor, the House majority leader, in favor of a Tea Party activist. It also forced the party as a whole to move to the right, making it more combative, more extreme, and more captive to a more ideological part of the Republican base.

Why are we hearing about this now with the Democratic Party?

The underlying idea is that there’s a divide between the establishment Democrats and populist-minded progressive Democratic candidates. And that’s part of the reason why we’re hearing this now, because there was a victory in New York City’s mayoral primary by Zohran Mamdani, a candidate who is fully in that latter category — a self-described democratic socialist appealing to this idea of bringing out new parts of the electorate, mobilizing people with populist appeal, with targeted, non-polished messaging, and taking more left-leaning positions on policy.

The big thing fueling talk about this Tea Party moment for Democrats is that the base has never really been as angry as it is right now. What we’re seeing is a combination of anti-Trump anger, wanting a change in direction, wanting a change in leadership, and also some folks who are like, Maybe we should become more progressive as a party.

So tell me about that. A change in leadership, a change in the establishment — what does this movement actually want?

It’s interesting. Because at least back with the original Tea Party movement, you could point to a core list of priorities there were about repealing Obamacare, about never repeating a bailout, about limiting the federal government’s ability to spend.

Something like that doesn’t exist right now, because it is a pretty disparate energy. The core thing is Democratic voters do not want the current leadership in Congress. They don’t like Hakeem Jeffries’s style of leadership in the House. They don’t like Chuck Schumer’s style of leadership in the Senate. There’s frustration at older members of Congress being in Congress and serving in leadership capacity right now.

In the polling, over and over again, we see, Democrats should be focused on providing a working-class vision for Americans. They should be more focused on kitchen table affordability issues. And that is the thing that most Democratic voters can actually agree on, and basically saying that that’s not what they think their current leadership is focused on.

What would it look like for the Democratic Party if this actually happens?

There are some strategists and activists who are drawing up lists of potential candidates to primary. There are already some challenges underway. I’m thinking of some House seats in Arizona, House seats in Illinois. There’s talk, especially after this New York City mayoral contest, about primarying Kirsten Gillibrand or Chuck Schumer and finding challengers to some more moderate House members in the New York area.

I’d be looking to see if there actually are younger people launching primary campaigns targeting older or centrist Democratic members of Congress. Once we get to primary season next year, how successful in fundraising are these candidates? Is there an actual effort by some established progressive members of the House to try to support some of these younger candidates?

Basically, just seeing if there’s money there, if there’s actual interest there in supporting these candidates, and whether we do see primary challenges in New York, in Massachusetts, be successful.

What is Pudgy Party?

Pudgy Party is an upcoming multiplayer party game, expected to be built on Mythos, and to be available on iOS and Android.

Developed by Mythical Games, and heavily-inspired by the popular title Fall Guys, players control their own Pengu to tackle a variety of gameshow-like challenges. By dodging obstacles, pushing your opponents off platforms and racing to the finish, you get one step closer to becoming the last Pengu standing – and earning a variety of rewards.

As with other games in this genre, customisation is expect to be a core feature of the game. Players are expected to be able to use a variety of accessories – such as hats, glasses, clothes and more – on their Pengus, with speculation that Pudgy Penguins NFT holders may be able to play as their assets in-game.

Musk-Trump feud: How Elon Musk could hurt the Republican Party https://earlybirdsinvest.com/musk-trump-feud-how-elon-musk-could-hurt-the-republican-party/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/musk-trump-feud-how-elon-musk-could-hurt-the-republican-party/#respond Sat, 07 Jun 2025 00:58:48 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/musk-trump-feud-how-elon-musk-could-hurt-the-republican-party/

How the Musk-Trump blowup ends, nobody knows.

Most commentary gives President Donald Trump the advantage. But Elon Musk’s willingness to spend his fortune on elections gives him one distinct advantage — the ability to drive a brittle party system into chaos and loosen Trump’s hold on it.

Thus far, Musk has raised two electoral threats. First, his opposition to Trump’s One Big, Beautiful Bill has raised the specter of his funding primary challenges against Republicans who vote to support the legislation. Second, he has raised the possibility of starting a new political party. There are limits to how much Musk can actually reshape the political landscape — but the underlying conditions of our politics make it uniquely vulnerable to disruption.

The threat of Musk-funded primaries might ring a little hollow. Trump will almost certainly still be beloved by core Republican voters in 2026. Musk can fund primary challengers, but in a low-information, low-turnout environment of mostly Trump-loving loyal partisans, he is unlikely to succeed.

However, in the November 2026 midterm elections, Musk could have much more impact for much less money. All he needs to do is fund a few spoiler third-party candidates in a few key swing states and districts. In so doing, he would exploit the vulnerability that has been hiding in plain sight for a while — the wafer-thin closeness of national elections.

In a straight-up battle for the soul of the Republican Party, Trump wins hands down. Not even close. Trump has been the party’s leader and cult of personality for a decade.

But in a battle for the balance of power, Musk might hold the cards.

Currently, the US political system is “calcified.” That’s how the political scientists John Sides, Chris Tausanovitch, and Lynn Vavreck described it in their 2022 book, The Bitter End: The 2020 Presidential Campaign and the Challenge to American Democracy. Partisans keep voting for their side, seeing only the reality that makes them the heroes; events may change, but minds don’t.

In a 48-48 country, that means little opportunity for either party to make big gains. It also means a small disruption could have massive implications.

Elon Musk doesn’t have a winning coalition — but he may not need one to hurt Trump

Let’s imagine, for a moment, that Musk is serious about starting a new political party and running candidates.

He will quickly find that despite his X poll, a party that “actually represents the 80 percent in the middle” is a fantasy. That mythical center? Being generous here, that’s maybe 15 percent of politically checked-out Americans.

Realistically, the coalition for Musk’s politics — techno-libertarian-futurist, anti-system, very online, Axe-level bro-vibes — would be small. But even so, a Musk-powered independent party — call it the “Colonize Mars” Party — would almost certainly attract exactly the voters completely disenchanted with both parties, mostly the disillusioned young men who went to Trump in the 2024 election.

Imagine Musk funds his Colonize Mars Party in every competitive race, recruiting energetic candidates. He gives disenchanted voters a chance to flip off the system: Vote for us, and you can throw the entire Washington establishment into a panic!

Practically, not many seats in the midterms will be up for grabs. Realistically, about 40 or so House seats will be genuine swing seats. In the Senate, there are realistically only about seven competitive races. But that means a small party of disruption could multiply the targeted impact of a precision blast with a well-chosen 5 percent of the electorate in less than 10 percent of the seats. Quite a payoff.

The short-term effect would be to help Democrats. Musk used to be a Democrat, so this is not so strange. If Musk and his tech allies care about immigration, trade, and investment in domestic science, supporting Democrats may make more sense. And if Musk mostly cares about disruption and sending Trump spiraling, this is how he would do it.

Musk is an engineer at heart. His successes have emerged from him examining existing systems, finding their weak points, and asking, What if we do something totally different?

From an engineer’s perspective, the American political system has a unique vulnerability. Every election hangs on a narrow margin. The balance of power is tenuous.

Since 1992, we’ve been in an extended period in which partisan control of the White House, Senate, and the House has continually oscillated between parties. National electoral margins remain wickedly tight (we haven’t had a landslide national election since 1984). And as elections come to depend on fewer and fewer swing states and districts, a targeted strike on these pivotal elections could completely upend the system.

A perfectly balanced and completely unstable system

It’s a system ripe for disruption. So why has nobody disrupted it?

First, it takes money — and Musk has a lot of it.

Money has its limits — Musk’s claim that his money helped Trump win the election is dubious. Our elections are already saturated with money. In an era of high partisan loyalty, the vast majority of voters have made up their minds before the candidate is even announced. Most money is wasted. It hits decreasing marginal returns fast.

The very thing that makes our politics feel so stuck is exactly what makes it so susceptible to Musk’s threat.

But where money can make a difference is in reaching angry voters disenchanted with both parties with a protest option. Money buys awareness more than anything else. For $300 million (roughly what Musk spent in 2024), a billionaire could have leverage in some close elections. For $3 billion (about 1 percent of Musk’s fortune) the chance of success goes up considerably.

Second, disruption is possible when there are enough voters who are indifferent to the final outcome. The reason Ross Perot did so well in 1992? Enough voters saw no difference between the parties that they felt fine casting a protest vote.

In recent years, the share of voters disenchanted with both parties has been growing steadily. The share of Americans with unfavorable views of both parties was 6 percent in 1994. In 2013 it was 28 percent. In a recent poll, a plurality of adults (38 percent) now say neither party fights for them. Both parties (and Trump) are very unpopular. The overwhelming majority of voters (70 percent) describe themselves as disappointed with the nation’s politics. Voters are angry, and eager for dramatic change.

Election after election, we’ve gone through the same pattern. Throw out the old bums, bring in the new bums — even if 90-plus percent of the electorate votes for the same bums, year in and year out. But in a 48-48 country, with only a few competitive states and districts, a rounding-error shift of 10,000 votes across a few states (far fewer than a typical Taylor Swift concert) can bestow full control of the government. Think of elections as anti-incumbent roulette.

The system is indeed “calcified,” as Sides, Tausanovitch, and Vavreck convincingly argue. Calcified can mean immovable. But it can also mean brittle. Indeed, the very thing that makes our politics feel so stuck is exactly what makes it so susceptible to Musk’s threat.

Most money in politics is wasted. But if one knows how to target it, the potential for serious disruption is quite real.

How to Participate: Waves, Points & Rewards

The airdrop is divided into four distinct waves, each lasting a month. The first wave, titled “Chapter One: A New Adventure,” begins on June 3 and leads up to the campaign’s official launch day on June 17.

Central to the campaign is the new Rewards Board—a playful leaderboard that allows players to track their progress and compare standings. Points can be earned by completing tasks such as logging in for daily activities, sharing content on social media, referring friends, and participating in in-game quests.

To maintain a level playing field, the leaderboard resets every four weeks, with new tasks introduced regularly.

On top of that, players can look forward to special game nights and limited-edition NFT-crafting ticket drops—just a few of the extra perks that make participation even more fun.

Each wave increases in reward size, starting with 50,000 $ALICE for Wave 1. By the end of the campaign on October 14, a total of 400,000 tokens will have been distributed to leaderboard leaders, while 100,000 $ALICE will be distributed to all who reach the minimum point threshold during the first wave.

More Than Just Tokens

This airdrop isn’t just a one-off—it’s part of a bigger movement in Web3 gaming. My Neighbor Alice is using fun, interactive tasks to build community and keep players engaged.

The game, built on the Chromia blockchain, combines cozy builder gameplay with blockchain features like true asset ownership and a player-driven economy. In Alice’s world, players can develop land, craft unique items, and connect with others across a thriving virtual archipelago.

Lawmakers close to Lee Jae-myung, the frontrunner in the South Korean presidential elections, have called for Seoul to steal a march on Washington by fast-tracking the rollout of a KRW stablecoin.

The South Korean media outlet Edaily quoted Min Byoung-dug, a lawmaker for the Democratic Party and the chairman of the party’s Digital Asset Committee, as stating that stablecoins could soon become an industry on an equal footing with AI or semiconductors. Min said:

“South Korean is an internet powerhouse. We need to take the lead in institutionalizing stablecoins before US dollar-based stablecoins become firmly established. That is the only way we can secure a sure position in the global battle for stablecoin hegemony.”

The Democratic Party lawmaker Min Byoung-dug.

KRW Stablecoin Rollout: The Time Is Now

Min added that he thought the potential for stablecoin adoption in the payments space was “limitless.” He explained:

“We should not just sit back and watch it grow into a powerful new future industry on the scale of AI or semiconductors.”

Min is a close Lee ally and an open advocate of crypto regulation reform. He has also previously called for tax parity between South Korean stock traders and crypto investors.

Lee has repeatedly promised to launch a state-backed KRW stablecoin in response to the rapid rise of USD-pegged coins like USDT and USD Coin (USDC).

The frontrunner, who leads his closest rival Kim Moon-soo (People Power Party) in the polls by almost 10%, has called for Seoul to “enter the stablecoin market quickly.”

Lee has warned that delaying the launch of such a coin could lead to further capital flight from the country.

Min echoed Lee’s calls, telling EDaily that Seoul “must expedite the institutionalization of stablecoins.”

He explained that South Korea “should not fall behind as the use of stablecoins rapidly increases, particularly in the United States.”

USDT, USDC Dominance

Min noted the fact that USDT and USDC “account for 90% of the stablecoin market in the United States.”

He also claimed that USD-pegged coins “are already being used in some parts of Korea, such as Dongdaemun Market, where many foreign payments are made.”

A graph showing the makeup of USDC’s reserves.

Min’s comments about Dongdaegmun Market, Seoul’s biggest clothing and textiles market, may be seen as contentious.

Posters on popular South Korean crypto forums last year claimed that “mass USDT adoption” was underway at Dongdaemun, with Chinese buyers particularly keen on the coin.

However, Dongaemun traders have told both Cryptonews.com and South Korean media outlets that cash, not crypto, is still king at the market.

Regardless, Min said that rapid adoption at home and overseas means Seoul risks being left out in the cold.

He said that if USDT and USDC continue to gain popularity worldwide, the space a won-based stablecoin could fill “will inevitably diminish.”

Could Lawmakers Act Before June 3 Elections?

Min claimed that a won-based stablecoin could gain global attention and drive up global demand for won-related assets, such as the government bonds underpinning a KRW stablecoin.

The lawmaker said that fans of South Korean webtoons (web-based comics) could be among the first overseas users. Readers may use a won-based stablecoin to buy webtoons, Min said.

Min added that he is already pushing for the National Assembly to approve stablecoin legislation.

The DP has a large majority in the house going into the elections. And with the nation essentially rudderless following the impeachment earlier this year of former President Yoon Suk-yeol, the party may yet decide to push ahead with such a bill before the June 3 elections.

Min has already unveiled a private member’s bill named the Basic Act on Digital Assets, prepared with the aid of industry experts.

The lawmaker said of the draft law: “I plan to submit the bill to the National Assembly after another review.”
