Bitcoin owners emerge as pivotal voting bloc ahead of 2026 midterms, poll shows https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-owners-emerge-as-pivotal-voting-bloc-ahead-of-2026-midterms-poll-shows/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-owners-emerge-as-pivotal-voting-bloc-ahead-of-2026-midterms-poll-shows/#respond Fri, 27 Jun 2025 17:19:10 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-owners-emerge-as-pivotal-voting-bloc-ahead-of-2026-midterms-poll-shows/

Bitcoin owners are becoming a significant voting group in the United States, and their influence is poised to grow ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Following their noticeable role in the 2024 presidential vote, recent polling from Cygnal shows that these crypto-aligned voters are aligning more closely with pro-Bitcoin candidates, most notably from the Republican Party.

Cygnal’s president Brent Buchanan noted that while the general electorate and the Bitcoin community still differ on several issues, the political relevance of this group is undeniable. He pointed out that President Donald Trump gained strong support from Bitcoin owners in 2024, a trend that continues to benefit Republican lawmakers today.

Considering this, the poll found that 76% of Bitcoin holders are more likely to vote for candidates supporting easier digital asset access. Meanwhile, 43% of all voters said a politician’s stance on Bitcoin could sway their decision at the ballot box.

This suggests that crypto ownership is no longer just about investment and is now a political identity.

Crypto owners distrust regulators and demand clarity

Despite their growing influence, Bitcoin owners remain skeptical of government oversight.

According to the poll, only 29% of Bitcoiners express strong trust in federal regulators to manage digital assets fairly, which is slightly more than the 12% of the general public who share that trust.\

Meanwhile, 33% of voters do not trust federal regulation of crypto, revealing a significant trust gap between policymakers and the crypto community.

The mistrust presents a significant challenge for policymakers, as most voters are either unaware of or unclear about the impact of some proposed pro-crypto legislation.

This is evident in the fact that only one-third of voters support the idea of a Bitcoin reserve despite its widespread adoption across US States and globally.

To bridge this divide, lawmakers may need to do more than simply propose policy and may need to invest in educating the electorate.

So, as the 2026 midterms approach, engaging Bitcoin voters could prove crucial for candidates hoping to ride the next wave of political momentum.

Nest Hub problems strike owners: Is your smart display broken? https://earlybirdsinvest.com/nest-hub-problems-strike-owners-is-your-smart-display-broken/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/nest-hub-problems-strike-owners-is-your-smart-display-broken/#respond Sat, 17 May 2025 08:00:15 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/nest-hub-problems-strike-owners-is-your-smart-display-broken/
Google Nest Hub on a table

TL;DR

  • Owners of the first-gen Nest Hub report recent device failures, freezing up during the boot process.
  • Attempts to factory reset the hardware have not been successful at restoring operation.
  • It’s possible a recent firmware update may play a role, but Google has yet to confirm anything.

Update, May 16, 2025 (09:41 PM ET): We’ve heard back from Google, and the company confirms that it’s aware of these reports, and has a fix rolling out.

Google’s solution is scheduled to hit all Nest Hub units by sometime early next week. If you’re still experiencing an issue like the one we describe here after that, Google asks that you follow up in its support thread to let the company know.

Original article, May 16, 2025 (04:04 PM ET): How long do you expect your devices to last? With something like a phone, you’ve got the threat of physical damage hanging over it basically all the time, need to worry about its battery deciding to go all explosive on you, and had better make sure your manufacturer is keeping up with security updates to keep hackers at bay. But for smart home tech that plugs in, doesn’t leave the safety of your house, and has only limited access to your accounts, is it really that wrong for consumers to expect their devices to largely just keep on working? A growing number of Nest Hub users are grumbling about that just now, as a wave of failures appears to be hitting the smart display, and Google does not seem to be doing much about it.

The Nest Hub debuted as the Google Home Hub all the way back in 2018, and it’s been reasonably well supported over the years, getting a major software refresh as it moved to Fuchsia and continuing to act as an affordable solution for controlling your smart home. But over the course of the past week or so, we’ve been spotting reports of first-gen Nest Hub models getting stuck on their boot screen, and failing to operate. Hub owner Angela Hopkins got a thread running in Google’s Nest Community, and Reddit users like Gabi_Social have been reporting the same issues on the site’s Google Home sub.

Affected units appear to hang on the Google “G” when booting, and attempts to factory reset the hardware seem to be fruitless. In that Reddit account, the owner contacted Google support for help, only to be turned away because their Nest Hub warranty was four years expired.

There are lots of different ways that old, no-longer-supported products can die. If devices rely on connection to an external server, for instance, the company running it may eventually decide to power things down. And while it sucks when that happens, at least that’s a conscious decision that affects all users equally. What Nest Hub users are experiencing here, however, has more of the hallmarks of a firmware update gone wrong, which while equally ignoble, is a much more frustrating way for a product to die.

On Google’s Nest firmware page, the company shows version 26.20250116.103.2900 as being the most recent release for the Nest Hub, and it appears this software started heading out within the past month.

We’ve reached out to Google in the hopes of learning more about what could possibly be causing these problems, and to see if there’s any way for owners to get their smart displays operational again. We’ll update you with anything we hear back.

Stalker remasters arrive next week with 4K support and FSR – free for existing owners https://earlybirdsinvest.com/stalker-remasters-arrive-next-week-with-4k-support-and-fsr-free-for-existing-owners/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/stalker-remasters-arrive-next-week-with-4k-support-and-fsr-free-for-existing-owners/#respond Fri, 16 May 2025 05:05:04 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/stalker-remasters-arrive-next-week-with-4k-support-and-fsr-free-for-existing-owners/

Bottom line: The first three Stalker titles: Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat, will receive substantial updates on May 20. The enhanced editions feature upgraded graphics and numerous quality-of-life improvements. Veteran players will receive the updated versions for free for each title they already own on Steam or GOG.

GSC Game World has shared details about the long-awaited enhanced editions. These include updated system requirements which, while significantly higher than those of the original releases, feel modest by today’s standards.

Visual enhancements include god rays, dynamic screen-space reflections, global illumination, new water shaders, improved skyboxes, upscaled textures, and higher polygon counts.

The user interface has also been refreshed, with full gamepad support and other usability improvements. While the in-game content and AI remain unchanged, GSC Game World has addressed numerous bugs – something longtime Stalker fans have come to expect.

Since these remasters are based on games originally released in 2007, 2008, and 2010, modern mid-range and mainstream PCs should run them easily. At 1080p on low settings, even older GPUs like the Nvidia GTX 960 and AMD Radeon RX 560 can still achieve 60 fps.

For 4K gameplay, a GeForce RTX 2080 Ti or Radeon 6800 XT is recommended. Depending on VRAM requirements, GPUs like the RTX 3070, 4070, or the upcoming 5060 Ti may offer similar performance. FSR upscaling is supported, but not DLSS or XeSS. Despite the improved visuals, storage demands remain modest, with each game requiring only around 10 GB.

Unfortunately, moving to the enhanced editions means Stalker’s extensive modding community will have to start from scratch, as existing mods and save files won’t be compatible. However, the new versions include Steam Workshop support for easier mod installation and will not replace the original versions.

Owners of Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, or Call of Pripyat will see the enhanced editions appear as separate games in their Steam or GOG libraries when they go live on May 20.

For new players, the updated titles will be available individually for $20 or as a $40 bundle, both of which include the original versions.

The effort to revisit the classic Stalker games began last year, when GSC Game World released the first-ever console ports in a bundle titled Stalker: Shadows of the Zone Trilogy for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. Next week’s update brings the enhanced package to Steam, GOG, the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles.

Google wants Pixel owners to know Palm Timer works with the rear cameras https://earlybirdsinvest.com/google-wants-pixel-owners-to-know-palm-timer-works-with-the-rear-cameras/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/google-wants-pixel-owners-to-know-palm-timer-works-with-the-rear-cameras/#respond Sat, 29 Mar 2025 02:47:36 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/google-wants-pixel-owners-to-know-palm-timer-works-with-the-rear-cameras/

What you need to need to know

  • Google really wants more people to use Palm Timer, as evidenced by two new references to the feature this month.
  • There’s a new community post that reminds Pixel owners that Palm Timer can be used on both the front and rear cameras.
  • This comes shortly after Pixel Camera 9.8 rolled out with tweaked wording for the Palm Timer setting.

This month, Google has taken multiple steps to let Pixel phone owners know that the Palm Timer in the Camera app works with both the front and rear cameras. First, the company updated the Pixel Camera app with version 9.8 to include that distinction in the settings menu. Google also created a new community post this week to explain the feature and reinforce the point that it works with multiple cameras.

For those unfamiliar, Palm Timer is a Pixel-exclusive feature that can automatically start a photo timer when you show your palm to the camera. It was originally introduced with the front-facing camera and the Pixel Fold in mind, but now works with the Pixel 6 and newer, and with both cameras.

It’s easy to see that Palm Timer works with the front-facing camera, since users get visual confirmation in the viewfinder. Even though there’s no visual cue that a Palm Timer photo was taken using the rear cameras on a non-foldable, Google wants to point out that it does indeed work.

“Say goodbye to awkward selfie sticks and the stress of racing to beat the timer. With Google Pixel’s Palm timer, you can easily capture everyone in your selfies or your group from a distance,” the community post explains. “Not only does it work with the front camera, but you can also use it with the rear camera. When you’re ready, simply raise your palm to start the countdown. Easy peasy!”

Google says that to start a Palm Timer, simply hold up your hand toward the camera. A waving motion will do the trick, and when you’re ready, lower your hand to start a timer. This is a way to initiate a photo on your Pixel phone without physically pressing the shutter button, so it’s great for when your Pixel is set on a flat surface or tripod far away.

Palm Timer is enabled by default, but it can be disabled by opening the Pixel Camera app. From there, navigate to Settings > More settings > Palm timer. There, you can turn it off if you’d like.
