Bitcoin’s supply–demand balance narrowed further last week as corporate treasuries captured a dominant share of new issuance.

Last week, two publicly traded firms, Strategy and Tokyo-listed Metaplanet, purchased more than $230 million worth of BTC.

According to their separate announcements, their combined acquisitions, totaling 2,091 BTC, represented about two-thirds, or 66%, of all coins produced by miners during the reporting period.

Strategy expands holdings despite S&P 500 snub

On Sept. 8, Strategy confirmed it had purchased 1,955 BTC for $217.4 million, translating into about 62% of all coins mined during the week.

Following this purchase, Strategy’s Bitcoin stash has climbed to 638,460 BTC, which is valued at $71.6 billion at current market prices. This equates to an unrealized profit of roughly 51.8% from the firm’s total investment of $47.17 billion.

The company disclosed in its Form 8-K filing that the latest purchase was funded through proceeds from its at-the-market equity program, which raised capital across Strife, Strike, and MSTR stock issuances. In 2025, Strategy has raised more than $19 billion for Bitcoin purchases.

Meanwhile, famed short seller Jim Chanos pointed out that the firm’s Bitcoin fundraising is increasingly relying on its MSTR stock issuance rather than the preferred stock options to fund recent Bitcoin purchases.

For context, he noted that the firm raised 92% of its latest capital through common equity while selling just $16.8 million in preferred stock. The same trend was observed last week when the firm raised 90% of its Bitcoin purchase fund through MSTR.

Notably, the latest Bitcoin purchase comes days after Strategy failed to secure a place in the S&P 500 index. Instead, the index committee added Robinhood, AppLovin, and Emcor Group stocks to its list.

Metaplanet strengthens presence in Asia

While smaller in scale, Metaplanet’s latest buy reinforced its reputation as Asia’s counterpart to Strategy.

The Tokyo-listed firm acquired 136 BTC for $15.2 million at an average price of $111,666. That raised its year-to-date yield to 487% in 2025, emphasizing its aggressive accumulation strategy.

The company now holds 20,136 BTC, purchased for $2.08 billion at an average of $103,196. As of Sept. 8, that stash was worth roughly $2.26 billion, giving Metaplanet a 9.3% unrealized profit.

Wait—Ripple Came Before Bitcoin? Ripple’s backstory just got a little twist. According to a set of emails from 2014, early notes on what became Ripple go as far back as 2004.

That’s four years before Satoshi Nakamoto put out the Bitcoin whitepaper. These emails, shared by XRP community figure SMOQE, feature comments from tech writer Reutzel Bailey and industry insider Jeffrey Cliff.

They hint that Ripple’s seed was planted long before anyone mined the very first bitcoin block in January 2009.

Email Exchange Raises Timeline Questions

In the 2014 thread, Bailey points out that Ryan Fugger first sketched out a payment system in 2004. Back then, it wasn’t meant to be a public, mined cryptocurrency.

It was called RipplePay, and it let folks move value without banks. Bailey says Chris Larsen later saw Bitcoin’s buzz and steered Ripple in a crypto direction.

Cliff jumps in to stress that Ripple’s idea “predates Bitcoin,” though he argues it wasn’t a “copycat math-based currency” riding on Bitcoin’s hype.

RipplePay’s Early Vision

Based on reports, Fugger’s 2004 project aimed to speed up payments between trusted parties. It leaned on digital trust rather than mining. Transactions were approved by a small group of validators—not by open mining.

That setup made it fast, but also private. It wasn’t until 2011 that developers began talking about an open network, one anyone could join to validate deals, rather than a gated club.

XRP Ledger Emerges In 2012

In 2011, Jed McCaleb teamed up with Arthur Britto and David Schwartz to code what they called the XRP Ledger. They wanted a version of Bitcoin that skipped proof-of-work.

By 2012, Fugger passed the torch, and McCaleb, Larsen and others launched NewCoin. The name switched to OpenCoin in 2013, then to Ripple in 2015.

Based on the timeline, XRP the token went live in 2012—three years after Netflix hit 1 million subscribers in the US, and about 10 years before McCaleb sold his last coins in 2022.

BTC is now trading at $107,776. Chart: TradingView

Token Gifts And Executive Moves

When XRP started, its founders gifted 80 billion tokens to the company. McCaleb got 9.5 billion XRP of that stash. He agreed to sell his holdings bit by bit to avoid sudden market shocks.

His final XRP sales wrapped up in 2022. After exiting, he helped start Stellar. Larsen stayed on and today leads Ripple as its chairman.

Even though Bitcoin gets the credit as the first real cryptocurrency, Ripple actually laid the groundwork years earlier – at least according to the document — showing that the dream of sending value without a middleman was already taking shape.

Newly introduced GOP Bill seeks to write Trump’s strategic Bitcoin reserve into law https://earlybirdsinvest.com/newly-introduced-gop-bill-seeks-to-write-trumps-strategic-bitcoin-reserve-into-law/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/newly-introduced-gop-bill-seeks-to-write-trumps-strategic-bitcoin-reserve-into-law/#respond Mon, 09 Jun 2025 13:02:36 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/newly-introduced-gop-bill-seeks-to-write-trumps-strategic-bitcoin-reserve-into-law/

A new House bill introduced Friday would lock in President Trump’s unprecedented executive order establishing a Strategic Bitcoin Reserve, signaling the GOP’s deepening embrace of digital assets as fiscal and geopolitical leverage tools.

The bill, H.R. 3798, sponsored by Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN), aims to codify Executive Order 14233, signed by Trump.

Bitcoin reserve law (Source: Congress.gov)
Bitcoin reserve law (Source: Congress.gov)

The order halted federal Bitcoin auctions and directed agencies to consolidate BTC holdings under Treasury’s management. If enacted, the legislation would ensure the long-term existence of a U.S. Bitcoin reserve and a Digital Asset Stockpile for seized altcoins, shielding the program from future repeal.

“It’s time we treated Bitcoin like the strategic asset it is,” Burchett said in a statement.

From forfeiture to fortress

Over the past decade, the U.S. government has accumulated 198,000 BTC, currently valued at over $21.32 billion, through forfeitures linked to criminal enforcement actions. In the past, much of that Bitcoin was auctioned off, including large sales in 2014–2021 at fractions of today’s prices.

Those early auctions forfeited over $21 billion in upside gains. EO 14233 and now Burchett’s bill aim to stop the bleeding by treating the digital currency as a long-term strategic hedge rather than liquidating it for short-term cash.

“This is our digital Fort Knox,” Treasury Secretary Vivek Ramaswamy said at the March rollout, promising “budget-neutral and innovation-positive” implementation.

Under the bill, no taxpayer dollars would be spent to acquire more Bitcoin. Instead, BTC must come from future enforcement seizures, asset swaps, or market-neutral transfers. Altcoins acquired in similar ways would be held in a separate “Digital Asset Stockpile,” which the Treasury could sell at its discretion.

The legislation mandates inter-agency BTC transfers to Treasury custody and bars any sales without presidential waiver, effectively nationalizing the U.S. government’s Bitcoin position unless reversed by future legislation.

A strategic hedge or digital gamble?

Supporters compare the reserve to a digital gold standard, a decentralized asset immune to inflation, geopolitical manipulation, or central bank defaults. The reserve’s proposed five-year target is 1 million BTC, about 5% of the total supply.

“This is our Louisiana Purchase moment,” said Sen. Cynthia Lummis (R-WY), who plans to introduce a Senate companion bill this week.

But critics argue that Bitcoin’s volatility and cybersecurity risks make it a poor candidate for a national strategic asset. Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA), a vocal crypto skeptic, called the bill “crypto cosplay that risks taxpayer dollars and global credibility” at an April House Financial Services hearing.

The legislative push comes as the Federal Reserve continues exploring a CBDC, which Trump has vowed to block. “Not on my watch,” the President said at the Bitcoin 2024 conference last year.

That conference also marked the first public unveiling of the reserve concept, a campaign promise that has since morphed into federal policy, and now, possibly law. Presidential Executive Orders are not law unless ratified by Congress.

With Bitcoin reaching an all-time high of $111,900 in May and corporate treasuries increasing BTC allocations, Burchett’s bill taps into growing belief in Bitcoin as a financial backstop.

What Comes Next

H.R. 3798 has been referred to the House Financial Services Committee. Chair Patrick McHenry (R-NC) is expected to schedule a hearing this summer, with Senate action likely to follow.

How Treasury will securely manage BTC custody, whether through cold wallets, multisig arrangements, or third-party custodians, remains an open question.

It is also unclear how reserve holdings might affect broader fiscal or monetary policy, including debt ceiling negotiations or Federal Reserve collateral frameworks.

Klaus Schaub: What’s Next For Newly Fired WEF Chairman? https://earlybirdsinvest.com/klaus-schaub-whats-next-for-newly-fired-wef-chairman/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/klaus-schaub-whats-next-for-newly-fired-wef-chairman/#respond Sat, 26 Apr 2025 01:44:49 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/klaus-schaub-whats-next-for-newly-fired-wef-chairman/

Klaus Schwab, founder of the World Economic Forum, is now being investigated by the very institution he built. A whistleblower letter, sent to the Forum’s board last week, accuses Schwab and his wife of blurring the line between personal privilege and organizational power.

Why does every rich person in power end up abusing it time after time? Allegedly… of course!

The letter, reviewed by sources close to the matter, details claims of misused funds and questionable conduct—including Schwab allegedly directing junior staff to pull cash from ATMs for him and using Forum money for private hotel massages. His wife Hilde, once on the Forum’s payroll, is accused of arranging fake meetings to justify luxury travel.

Now that Schwab is out and likely a fraud, allegedly, here are the four biggest ideas he wanted to push in 2025 all pulled directly from speeches or the official WEF website:

1. Klaus Schaub: China is a ‘Role Model’

(source)

China has a 9 out of a potential 100 points on the International Freedom Index. As the NYT reported in 2022, a story titled “Breach of the Big Silence: Protests Stretch China’s Censorship to Its Limits” China has many parts that don’t make it a role model.

‘The sheer amount of footage speaks to the deep well of anger inside China against the country’s exceptionally stringent Covid policies that have affected hundreds of millions of people, especially over the past year,” the article wrote.

With that said, the West has its own problems with censorship and authoritarian crackdowns.

Maybe a move toward China is inevitable? The WEF seemed to think so.

2. WEF: A Good Life Doesn’t Have to Be Happy or Meaningful

(source)

Recently, the WEF promoted a new paper published in the American Psychological Association’s Psychological Review, suggesting how to live a good life.

Yes, the good life… have you heard? It isn’t focused on happiness or purpose but rather a life that’s “psychologically rich.”

All of this, from our perspective at 99Bitcoins, seems to be subliminal for a life where meaning is further reduced. We can’t tell you where to find meaning, but finding is important, no?

3. Klaus Schaub: Inclusive Capitalism Headed by the Pope

RIP Pope Francis, but before he died he had business plans with Klaus Schaub and the WEF.

It’s called “Inclusive capitalism,” and it represents $2.1 trillion in market cap and 200 million employees. The New York Times reported in 2022 that Pope Francis, Ajay Banga of Mastercard, Marc Benioff of Salesforce, Brian Moynihan of Bank of America, and the World Economic Forum were all rewriting the rules of capitalism under the banner of inclusivity and environmental, social, and governance, or ESG.

What did that mean for BTC and Bitcoin mining?

Well Pope Francis did not make any public statements specifically mentioning Bitcoin. However, he consistently  advocated that “money has to serve, not to rule.”

4. Klaus Schaub: Hate Speech Determined by AI

(source)

We’re not sure why people make up lies about the World Economic Forum.

Everything that comes out of their mouth is already so mind-numbingly outrageous it would make George Orwell blush.

The WEF wants to end hate speech by unleashing an A.I. system that will sift through conversations using context and sentiment to determine what hate speech is. Miraculously enough it will even be able to stop hate speech before it’s even published like pre-crime in “Minority Report.”

Rich. Bored. Insane.

Now that Schuab is out, the WEF is still unlikely to change. We’ll keep you updated on what they’re scheming next.

I’m running a bitcoin core node (28.1) and would like to use it as a server for my wallet. My node is running on a dedicated desktop running Windows 10. It obviously accepts peer connections (10 peers), but for some reason it cannot be connected from the wallet. Also, we will not use the tool at https://bitnodes.io/nodes/addresses/. Even though the IP address is correct, I get the “Enter a valid IP address” error. I’ve reviewed the wallet documentation on connecting to Bitcoin Core, but still can’t connect the wallet. Connect to various public servers. Any help would be appreciated.
