Bank customers in Thailand are discovering that their accounts have been frozen, part of a government effort to disrupt financial fraud.

The operation, which began in August, has led to the freezing of approximately three million accounts. These actions target accounts suspected of being used by scammers to move stolen funds, but many people with no connection to such crimes have also been affected.

According to the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, recent tactics used by scammers have made it harder for authorities to identify fraudulent accounts.

As a result, some small business owners and online sellers have seen their access to funds restricted. This has led to delays in payments, limited transactions, and disruption to daily business activities.

To stop the flow of criminal money, banks have also introduced a daily transfer limit of 50,000 baht (roughly $1,570). These restrictions apply to all customers, not just those under investigation.

The Bank of Thailand has warned that more freezes may be necessary as investigations expand. However, according to the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, banks can suspend funds for up to three days, and police may extend this to seven while checks are carried out.

The situation has sparked renewed interest in digital currencies, such as Bitcoin

Lock manufacturer files lawsuit against social media lock picker https://earlybirdsinvest.com/lock-manufacturer-files-lawsuit-against-social-media-lock-picker/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/lock-manufacturer-files-lawsuit-against-social-media-lock-picker/#respond Tue, 03 Jun 2025 16:32:31 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/lock-manufacturer-files-lawsuit-against-social-media-lock-picker/

A Florida-based lock manufacturer, Proven Industries, has filed a lawsuit against Trevor McNally, a social media creator with millions of followers, after McNally posted videos appearing to show how easily Proven’s locks could be opened using a piece of an aluminum can

According to court documents, McNally first published a video on April 3, 2025, that incorporated about 15 seconds from Proven’s promotional video. In this video, McNally is seen demonstrating how to bypass the lock, which Proven claims creates a false impression that their product is trivially easy to defeat.

The video, titled “”$130 lock bypassed with a can” has been taken down from McNalley’s social media accounts due to a copyright claim by Proven Industries, Inc. In its complaint, Proven Industries said, “The reproduction of Plaintiff’s copyrighted material was not necessary to convey any legitimate message, and was instead included to improperly attract attention, ridicule Plaintiff, and frame the lock product as insecure and trivial.”

The complaint states:

The McNally Video, with its editing, timing and context, gives consumers the false or at least misleading, impression that shimming Proven’s lock is mere “child’s play.”

In the McNally Video, McNally appears swinging his legs and sipping from an apple juice box, conveying to the purchasing public that bypassing Plaintiff’s lock is simple, trivial, and even comical.

Proven alleges that McNally failed to disclose critical information, such as “that successfully bypassing the lock required prior disassembly of the product to examine its internal components, including the position of the plunger, and to manufacture a custom-fit shim with precise notch dimensions.”

After Proven filed DMCA takedown requests, McNally posted three additional videos targeting more of their products. Here’s one.

And here’s a response video from Proven Industries.

The conflict has escalated to the point where, according to a more recent filing, “Defendant’s followers obtained the personal number of Plaintiff’s President and published it on the comments of McNally’s Videos. As a result, viewers have sent threatening texts, including racial slurs and hate speech to Proven’s employees and their families.”

The Lockpicking subreddit is all abuzz about the case.

In 2024, a software engineer in Chengdu lost 6 BTC to a crime fraud gang pose as a female trader. The perpetrators used the honeypot scheme to seduce the victim via an X-profile, and promised a steamy sexual favor.

The incident unfolded after months of online communication. The victim is seduced by a high-end hotel, where the gang is forced to move 6 BTC by threatening his reputation. Police are currently investigating and warning crypto users about similar fraud targeting owners. This case attracted attention due to its similarities with the virus’ social media stunts.

BTC scams: gangs, victims, stolen bitcoin

A few days before the report, Btcconger, a former Lisaabuilder, a Mandarin-speaking X user, posted a provocative offer. She promised to “had the night” with someone who held 0.1 BTC and asked her followers to share their wallet address.

She then escalated the stunts with photos and videos, including hotel selfies with condoms and clips of reading a Bitcoin white paper with three men. She also claimed she traveled to Bangkok for a meetup, but one post suggested a no-show.

However, this one man becomes a victim after agreeing to meet at a high-end hotel in Chengdu, along with “Bitcoin Konger” instead of a btcconger. The perpetrators then reportedly used forged evidence to threaten the victim’s reputation, and ultimately forced the transfer of 6 BTC via a crypto honeypot. Sexual pig butt scheme.

Sina Finance Report linked Btcconger’s tweet to the Chengdu case by a group of gang members working in fraudulent businesses. It details how the gang worked under the alias “Bitcoin Konger” and reflects the persona of Btcconger. The similarity of tactics using female trader personas scrutinizes real Btccongers even without direct evidence tied to crime.

This was followed by Btcconger’s response to a livestream allegation with content creator Robertley. From Shenzhen, she denied any involvement and said that Chengdu’s Great Terror would precede the rebranding of her account to Btcconger. She alleged that if she was found guilty she was detained and claimed that she notarized evidence clearing her name in a formal report.

Aftermath: It’s not just stolen BTC

Police warn investors about the growing trends in fraud that leverage the trust of crypto holders. The Chengdu case included grooming for months before the in-person ambush, giving a typical online terror twist. Authorities urge users to verify their identity and avoid sharing sensitive details with unverified contacts.

Btcconger’s post ultimately went massive with 2 million views. They introduced the charms that such tactics can have, whether for caution or for a deception. Some viewed it as smart marketing, while others viewed it as a dangerous move that hides real threats.

In addition to the threat to his reputation, six stolen BTCs caused financial damage to the victims. This tactic, common in Crypto sexttortor, utilizes personal embarrassment to bypass rational judgments. The use of fake evidence by gangs is psychologically exploiting the victims.

The investigation continues, but Btcconger’s denial depends on timing and her public presence. She claims that the rebranding to Btcconger has been recent and published the Chengdu case.

    Polymarket, UMA Communities Lock Horns After $7M Ukraine Bet Resolves https://earlybirdsinvest.com/polymarket-uma-communities-lock-horns-after-7m-ukraine-bet-resolves/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/polymarket-uma-communities-lock-horns-after-7m-ukraine-bet-resolves/#respond Thu, 27 Mar 2025 12:08:55 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/polymarket-uma-communities-lock-horns-after-7m-ukraine-bet-resolves/

A contentious $7 million bet on prediction platform Polymarket has sparked disagreement between the Polymarket and UMA communities.

The bet, which speculated on whether Ukraine would agree to a mineral deal with U.S. President Donald Trump before April, saw its “yes” probability surge from 9% to 100% between March 24 and 25, despite no official agreement being reached.

Polymarket relies on UMA, an optimistic oracle system, to determine the outcomes of its prediction markets.

In this system, anyone can propose a resolution by staking a $750 USDC.e bond, which can then be challenged. If a dispute arises, UMA token holders vote to settle the matter.

In this case, the bet resolved as “yes,” leading many users to suspect manipulation by a “UMA whale” — a holder of a large number of UMA tokens capable of influencing the vote.

Polymarket responded via its Discord server, admitting the resolution was unexpected but denying it constituted a “market failure” that would warrant refunds.

It clarified that the market was resolved too soon, as no deal between Ukraine and the U.S. has been confirmed, yet it stood by the UMA voting process to correct the outcome.

Polymarket has since turned to its community for suggestions on preventing future issues, promising clearer rules and forthcoming updates, though it has yet to detail specific changes.
