It was a historic week of codes! The Altcoin season may finally come here as Bitcoin (BTC) violates $124,000 for the first time and Ethereum (ETH) is aiming for the best ever test! In the background, major changes are ongoing in Crypto Asia.

Here’s a summary of what’s been postponed

Metaplanet, a Japanese BTC finance company, has seen its stock increase by 190%, surpassing some of the largest and most liquid Japanese blue chip companies.

According to a revenue report released on August 13, 2025, (YTD) revenues have far surpassed the average profit posted by Topix Core 30, Japan’s leading index tracking industry giants such as Toyota, Sony and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.

Investors who witnessed Metaplanet’s strategy stacked up had their shareholders increased to over 180,000 as of June 2025, up 350% since launching the BTC accumulation strategy.

As Metaplanet previously stated, it plans to purchase 1% of its total BTC supply by 2027. To achieve its goal, Metaplanet will need to purchase 210,000 BTC over the next two years.

To advance BTC’s accumulation strategy, Metaplanet announced its plan to raise $3.7 billion via equity offerings on August 1, 2025, indicating its continued commitment to equity-based financing.

Korean traders throw away big technology for crypto stocks

Korean investors are moving away from the major American high-tech stocks and investing in high-risk, highly-paid crypto stocks.

A local news agency reported on the issue on August 11, 2025, citing data from the Korea International Finance Centre (KCIF). The report revealed that crypto stocks, which account for 8.5% of South Korea’s top 50 net purchases in January, surged to 36.5% in June and returned to 31.5% in July.

On the other hand, large tech stocks fell sharply in July to $260 million, down 84% from the monthly average of $1.68 billion recorded between January and April.

Ether Stacking Company’s Bitmine stood out as a clear winner in the country’s growing appetite for crypto-related stocks.

A Bloomberg report issued on August 11, 2025 highlighted that Korean retail investors poured $259 million into Bitmine stocks since early July, making it the most frequent foreign security stock purchased that month.

Meanwhile, over the past 30 days, Bitmine has increased Ether Holdings by 410.68%, and currently holds 833,100 ETH, ensuring its position as the world’s largest ether stacker.

As the National Bank of Kazakhstan has confirmed its plans to establish a national cryptocurrency reserve, Kazakhstan is preparing to launch a state-run cryptocurrency reserve. The fund is probably created with seized digital assets and government-related mining operations.

This announcement came from government news agency Kazinform on June 25th, 2025. National Bank Chairman Timur Suleimenoff acknowledged the volatility and risks of the Internet associated with cryptography. However, he argued that by placing cryptographic sanctuaries under centralized facilities, it would ensure proper surveillance and reduce potential risks.

The concept of a national cryptocurrency sanctuary continues to gain global traction, especially after the US created cryptocurrency under Donald Trump.

Kazakhstan’s cryptocurrency protected areas are processed by the national bank

Importantly, Kazakhstan’s cryptocurrency protected areas are expected to be managed by a subsidiary of the National Bank, which specializes in alternative investments.

Additionally, the cryptographic protected areas could be funded through two major channels, according to official reports. The seized digital assets are the first source of information as authorities plan to use expropriated cryptography. The other is through government-related mining operations. Kazakhstan is known to have a growing crypto mining sector.

    Kazakhstan plans to establish Bitcoin and crypto preparations https://earlybirdsinvest.com/kazakhstan-plans-to-establish-bitcoin-and-crypto-preparations/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/kazakhstan-plans-to-establish-bitcoin-and-crypto-preparations/#respond Mon, 30 Jun 2025 14:03:37 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/kazakhstan-plans-to-establish-bitcoin-and-crypto-preparations/

Kazakhstan’s National Bank has announced plans to establish a national Bitcoin and cryptographic protected area. This illustrates a significant shift in the country’s approach to Bitcoin amid the growing institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies.

According to a statement from National Bank Chairman Timur Suleimenov, the bank is developing a comprehensive framework for the formation and management of Bitcoin and cryptographic preparations through specialized subsidiaries focusing on alternative investments.

The accelerated adoption of corporate and sovereign cryptography is astounding. From the strategy’s 597,325 BTC holdings to Ukraine’s recent Bitcoin Reserve Act, we see unprecedented institutional interest in the sectors of businesses and government.

This initiative is because Kazakhstan, one of the world’s leading Bitcoin mining hubs, aims to diversify its financial reserves and reduce its dependence on traditional currencies. The proposed reserves include confiscated Bitcoin and crypto assets, as well as cryptography mined by state-affiliated operations.

The National Bank has worked with lawmakers to establish the necessary legal frameworks, including defining the status of the protected area and procedures for deposits and usage. The initiative is in line with broader efforts to regulate Kazakhstan’s Bitcoin and crypto markets.

Following the recent establishment of strategic Bitcoin reserves by the US and Pakistan, Kazakhstan’s move reflects the growing recognition of Bitcoin as a strategic reserve asset.

At the press conference, Bitcoin traded at $107,822, down 0.3% over the past 24 hours. Markets handle the implications of expanding institutional and sovereign adoption.

    Key Takeaways:

    • President Tokayev announced the creation of “CryptoCity,” a pilot zone for using cryptocurrency in everyday transactions.
    • CryptoCity will operate as a regulated sandbox to test the use of digital assets for purchasing goods, services, real estate, and investments.
    • The initiative builds on Kazakhstan’s ongoing efforts to modernize its financial infrastructure.

Kazakhstan is preparing to launch “CryptoCity,” a pilot zone where cryptocurrencies can be used to pay for goods, services, and more.

The announcement was made by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev during the Astana International Forum 2025, according to a May 29 statement on the official website of the president.

Kazakhstan Plans Legal Framework for CryptoCity, Crypto-Powered City in Alatau

In his remarks, Tokayev described CryptoCity as a regulated sandbox for experimenting with crypto adoption.

“We are planning to create a pioneering pilot zone called CryptoCity where cryptocurrencies might be used for purchasing goods, services, and even beyond,” he said.

A full transcript of the speech was later published on the president’s official website.

While Tokayev did not provide many details, the initiative is the latest in Kazakhstan’s broader efforts to explore crypto use cases and integrate digital assets into its economy.

The pilot zone is part of a wider strategy to attract technology ventures and capitalize on the growth of its domestic crypto market.

Kazakhstan has been building digital financial infrastructure since launching a central bank digital currency (CBDC) pilot in February 2023. Programmability was a key feature from the beginning, planned to reduce corruption.

That same year, the Center for Interbank Settlements was transformed into the National Payment Corporation, tasked with developing the CBDC platform.

By November 2023, the country had launched the digital tenge in pilot mode with real users, including banks and their clients.

The system used blockchain-based smart contracts to facilitate programmable payments.

Banks involved in the pilot issued digital vouchers and cards to support usage.

The government also partnered with Binance to test CBDC payments with selected merchants. Binance has since expanded its footprint in Kazakhstan with local investments and a digital asset exchange.

Zhaslan Madiyev, Minister of Digital Development, told local media that officials are currently choosing a location for CryptoCity.

“Of course, the most promising place for CryptoCity is the new city of Alatau—it’s the president’s initiative,” he said.

Alatau, a research and technology hub near Kazakhstan’s southeastern border, is already home to a special economic zone and multiple science institutions. Regulators see potential synergies in adding CryptoCity to the area.

“The concept is that cryptocurrency would be used as a means of payment—to pay in restaurants and cafes, buy real estate, and make investments,” Madiyev explained. “I believe this could be a major breakthrough for the blockchain industry.”

According to Madiyev, the city is already under development. The next step is building a legal framework to allow free crypto circulation and establish crypto as a legitimate payment method.

“These conditions need to be reflected in the law,” he said.

Kazakhstan Considers “Crypto Bank” as Lawmakers Push for Stronger Oversight in Expanding Sector

Adding to the unveiling of the “CryptoCity” pilot zone by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, momentum is building around broader crypto reform in Kazakhstan.

Lawmakers are now calling for the establishment of a state-supported “crypto bank” to tighten regulation, protect users, and keep capital within national borders.

MP Azat Peruashev proposed the idea in Parliament, warning that the absence of a clear legal infrastructure has driven most crypto activity into the shadows.

Citing reports that over 90% of transactions occur outside the legal sector, he argued that a crypto bank could serve as a state-regulated exchange and custody platform, providing a safer alternative to illegal schemes and scam coins.

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov confirmed that the government is exploring such institutions as part of its broader digital asset strategy.

Crypto banks, he explained, could support exchange, storage, and transaction services, backed by licensed operators under the Astana International Financial Centre.

The push comes amid growing crypto volumes and rising enforcement. While licensed trading hit $1.4 billion in 2024, most of the $4.1 billion in activity last year occurred off the books.

In response to that, authorities shut down 36 unlicensed platforms and blocked thousands of sites, but lawmakers say more structural reform is urgently needed.

Kazakhstan has emerged as a key player in the cryptocurrency industry, particularly in mining.

Kazakhstan quickly became the second-largest Bitcoin mining hub globally. It accounts for nearly 18% of Bitcoin’s total hash rate at its peak. Its low electricity costs and surplus energy from coal-fired power plants attracted miners from around the world.

Despite these advancements, only about 5% of Kazakhstan’s crypto investors currently use regulated platforms like Galaxy Digital, SkyBridge Digital Finance, and Swiftex at the AIFC.

The majority operate in what Tokayev described as the “gray zone,” exposing them to risks associated with unregulated markets.

To address this issue, Tokayev emphasized the need for financial regulators to develop a robust legal framework that encourages broader legal participation in the crypto ecosystem.

Tightened Crypto Regulations In 2024, Kazakh Shut Down 36 Crypto Exchanges

Contrary to the President’s call for a crypto infrastructure, Kazakhstan recently implemented stricter regulations on crypto activities throughout 2024.

According to the government website, in 2024, 36 illegal crypto exchanges were shut. A total turnover of 60 Billion Tenge were destroyed. Furthermore, assets in the amount of $ 4.8 million (about 2.5 Billion Tenge) were frozen and confiscated.

According to the government, “Such entities (illegal crypto exchanges) do not identify their clients and do not identify suspicious transactions. Therefore, their services are often used by cyber crooks and drug traffickers.”

To capitalize on the growing crypto industry, Kazakhstan introduced a tax framework targeting miners.

However, enforcement challenges persisted due to non-compliance by many operators.
