Bitcoin (BTC) whipsawed below $100,000 at about 4 p.m. UTC on June 23 and reclaimed nearly $104,000 three hours later as traders processed news of an Iranian missile strike on a US air base in Qatar that caused no casualties.

As of press time, Bitcoin was trading at $103,801.74, up 4.5% over the past 24 hours after hitting an intraday low of around $99,500.

Iran fired a limited salvo at Al Udeid Air Base after Washington bombed three Iranian nuclear sites two days earlier. US officials said Tehran alerted Washington through back channels, allowing personnel to take cover.

President Donald Trump confirmed the warning and called the response “very weak,” adding that the measured strike signaled an opening for de-escalation.

The absence of injuries blunted initial market anxiety. Bitcoin’s one-hour candle pierced $100,000 on high volume, then reversed as liquidity providers restored bid depth. By 7 p.m. UTC, the pair traded just below $104,000 on Binance order books, according to TradingView.

Range, leverage, and what to watch

Despite the recent volatility caused by escalating tensions in the Middle East, Bitcoin has shown resilience, trading above the six-figure level for the vast majority of it.

Bitfinex Alpha’s June 23 note called exchange-traded fund (ETF) inflows “remarkably stable,” arguing that spot funds now act as a programmatic floor.

The report pegged the zone between $94,000 and $95,000 as critical support, and the range between $105,000 and $110,000 as near-term resistance. Until weekly inflows re-accelerate past $1.5 billion or a fresh macro catalyst emerges, analysts expect prices to oscillate inside that corridor.

Derivatives data support the view of contained volatility. Futures open interest stands near $52.8 billion and options near $43.4 billion. Combined interest remains elevated at roughly $96 billion but has retreated from the $114 billion peak after a $14 billion deleveraging flush last week.

Funding rates now sit in a “healthier zone,” suggesting capital is rotating into longer-horizon positions instead of short-term punts. The report warned that a renewed build-up of crowded leverage could trigger sharp liquidations, yet current metrics imply a firmer base.

ETF flows remain the fulcrum. Steady or rising allocations, especially during US hours when most spot-driven discovery occurs, would favor retests of the $110,000 cap. Conversely, a sustained week of net outflows would mark the first serious sign of rotational risk and could drag BTC back toward the mid-$90,000s, particularly if accompanied by fresh geopolitical stress.

What will Iran react to the US bombing? President Donald Trump has just attacked and bombed nuclear sites in Iran’s Foudow, Natanz and Isfahan, and called for peace. He just declared war. I will not return.

In response, the crypto market was as chaotic and whimsical as the US president, with Bitcoin crashing to $100,945 within minutes, cutting $40 billion from the total market before leveling it at $102,350.

Meanwhile, Iran labeled the Strikes as a violation of the non-proliferation treaty. It delved deeper into Israeli territory and sparked a fire as the region leaned further towards all-out war. What else can we expect from this conflict and the major impact on international stocks, crypto and global markets?

Iran and Israeli missile exchanges amplify tensions

After a US-led attack on Saturday, Iran reportedly fired two waves of missiles, firing a total of 27 strikes, hitting the area from Golan Heights to Upper Galilee and Tel Aviv.

Israeli authorities have confirmed damages on 10 different sites, including serious impacts in metropolitan areas such as Haifa and Tel Aviv. Emergency medical crews reported 16 injuries as they continue to com via the affected area.

For the first time, Iran’s missile strategy has intensified the exchange of continuous strikes, with close successive attacks.

President Trump wasted no time claiming victory.

“We have completed a very successful attack on three nuclear sites,” he posted, celebrating the US military as unparalleled in the world.

Meanwhile, Iran was pushed back violently. The atomic energy organization has accused the airstrike of “evil conspiracy” and silenced international watchdogs like the IAEA.

Bitcoin and the crypto market respond to geopolitical chaos

(btcusd)

Bitcoin didn’t get the news well. Within minutes of Trump’s confirmation of the strike, BTC was $100,945. It then rebounded to just $102,350, but not before wiping $40 billion from the crypto market.

Currently, momentum signals suggest that the market has not yet been out of the forest.

The BTC scaffolding looks unstable at $102,000. This is a level that has been tested more than twice this week. The new death intersection with SMA diving below 200 adds to the bearish outlook. The Bollinger band, which had been temporarily expanded during the sell-off, was narrowed again. Historically, it is calm before the next storm.

Historically, when Bitcoin has been relatively silent for several weeks, it portends parabolic profits.

Meanwhile, Iran has vowed to double its nuclear program and warn outside interference.

What’s next for WW3?

Tensions are rising rapidly, and Fallout may not stop at Iran’s borders. Retaliatory strikes at US bases or allied areas remain a serious threat. The IAEA hasn’t weighed it yet, but geopolitical analysts have already planned the game what will happen if Russia or China moves further Ukraine or Taiwan in chaos.

As uncertainty increases, investors are hedging violently. Don’t be surprised if Bitcoin continues to rebound.

Cryptocurrency falling

The pro-Israel “Predatory Sparrow” hacking group claims to have stolen over $90 million in cryptocurrency from Nobitex, Iran’s largest crypto exchange, and burned the funds in a politically motivated cyberattack.

The attack occurred on June 18, 2025, with Nobitex first reporting the breach on X at 2:24 AM EST.

“This morning, June 19, our technical team detected signs of unauthorized access to a portion of our reporting infrastructure and hot wallet,” reads Nobitex’s post.

“Immediately upon detection, all access was suspended and our internal security teams are closely investigating the extent of the incident.”

Soon after, Predatory Sparrow claimed responsibility for the attack through their Gonjeshke Darande X account, promising to publish the company’s source code and internal information stolen during the cyberattack. Nobitex’s website has remained offline since the attack.

“After the IRGC’s ‘Bank Sepah’ comes the turn of Nobitex. WARNING! In 24 hours, we will release Nobitex’s source code and internal information from their internal network. Any assets that remain there after that point will be at risk,” reads Predatory Sparrow’s post.

“The Nobitex exchange is at the heart of the regime’s efforts to finance terror worldwide, as well as being the regime’s favorite sanctions violation tool. We, ‘Gonjeshke Darande,’ conducted cyberattacks against Nobitex.”

Blockchain analysis firm Elliptic reports that more than $90 million in crypto was drained from Nobitex’s wallets and funneled into addresses controlled by the hackers.

However, instead of attempting to capitalize on the breach and keep the stolen crypto for themselves, the hacking group sent nearly all of the crypto to vanity addresses, which are cryptographic wallet addresses with embedded anti-Islamic Republic Guard Corps (IRGC) messages such as “F*ckIRGCterrorists.”

These vanity addresses require a lot of computational power to generate with usable private keys, and according to Elliptic, the creation of such long string names in a vanity address is “computationally infeasible.” This means the hackers intentionally burnt the crypto so that no one could gain access to it again.

“The hack also does not appear to be financially motivated,” explains Elliptic.

“The vanity addresses used by the hackers are generated through “brute force” methods – involving the creation of large numbers of cryptographic key pairs until one contains the desired text. But creating vanity addresses with text strings as long as those used in this hack is computationally infeasible.”

Elliptic reports that their investigations into Nobitex also show ties to the IRGC and Iranian leadership.

Other researchers previously linked the exchange to relatives of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, IRGC-affiliated business interests, and sanctioned individuals, who have reportedly used Nobitex to move funds generated from the DiskCryptor and BitLocker ransomware operations.

The Predatory Sparrow hacktivist group breached the Iran-controlled Bank Sepah a day before the Nobitex attack and also focused on disruption and damage rather than financial gain.

These attacks come as Iran increasingly isolates itself from the global Internet to reduce the risk of escalating cyberattacks on its infrastructure.

Iran’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Nobitex, has confirmed a major security breach that resulted in a loss of nearly $73 million from its hot wallets.

The platform disclosed the incident in a Telegram post on June 19, stating that unauthorized access was detected in part of its hot wallet infrastructure.

The company said it had “immediately suspended” all access to impacted systems and is now conducting a full investigation.

“Our technical team detected signs of unauthorized access to a portion of our reporting infrastructure and hot wallet,” Nobitex said in a Telegram post.

“Immediately upon detection, all access was suspended, and our internal security teams are closely investigating the extent of the incident.” they added

ZachXBT Trace Nobitex Exploit to TRON Wallets With Provocative Vanity Names

The attack, first flagged by blockchain investigator ZachXBT, involved suspicious transactions across the Tron and Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM)-compatible blockchains.

According to estimates, the exploit drained at least $73 million in assets, though only a portion of that total has been confirmed lost by Nobitex.

ZachXBT reported that attackers used so-called “vanity addresses” to carry out the exploit. These are custom-generated wallet addresses containing specific phrases.

The first suspicious address used to steal funds began with “TKFuckiRGCTerroristsNoBiTEX,” while another appeared as “0xffFFfFFffFFffFfFffFFfFfFfFFFFfFfFFFFDead,” according to Tronscan.

The bulk of the stolen funds, around $73 million, was traced to transactions involving these addresses. Most of the drained assets were moved through the TRON network.

In a follow-up post on X, Nobitex stated, “Users’ assets are completely secure according to cold storage standards, and the incident only affected a portion of the assets in hot wallets. All damages will be compensated through the insurance fund and Nobitex resources.”

As of now, Nobitex’s platform remains offline as the team continues to assess the full impact of the breach.

Users have been assured that trading and withdrawals will resume once security reviews are completed.

Pro-Israel Hacker Group Claims Nobitex Attack as Tensions Escalate Across Middle East

The recent cyberattack on Iranian crypto exchange Nobitex has taken a political turn after a pro-Israel hacker group, “Gonjeshke Darande,” claimed responsibility.

In a post on X, the group threatened to release the exchange’s internal files and source code within 24 hours, warning that remaining funds on the platform were still vulnerable.

Describing Nobitex as “central to the regime’s terror financing,” the hackers alleged that employment at the exchange is recognized as a form of military service in Iran.

Users were urged to withdraw funds “before it’s too late.”

Nobitex has yet to respond to the group’s claims or comment on the political nature of the breach. The company’s ongoing investigation is expected to shed more light on the full scope of the attack in the coming days.

The cyberattack comes amid rising regional conflict. On June 12, Israeli forces launched “Operation Rising Lion,” striking Iran’s Natanz nuclear site and military installations near Tehran and Tabriz.

Israeli officials said the strikes were a preemptive move against Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

The geopolitical escalation rattled financial markets, sending Bitcoin tumbling from a 24-hour high of $108,500 as investors fled risk assets.

Over $1.16 billion in long positions were liquidated in a wave of panic, compared to just $113.97 million in shorts.

Meanwhile, Q1 2025 has been the worst quarter on record for crypto hacks, with $1.63 billion lost across 39 incidents, according to Immunefi.

Bybit and Phemex accounted for most of the damage, with $1.52 billion attributed to the North Korea-linked Lazarus Group.

What happens if Netanyahu and Trump try to topple Iran’s government? https://earlybirdsinvest.com/what-happens-if-netanyahu-and-trump-try-to-topple-irans-government/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/what-happens-if-netanyahu-and-trump-try-to-topple-irans-government/#respond Tue, 17 Jun 2025 23:36:45 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/what-happens-if-netanyahu-and-trump-try-to-topple-irans-government/

Iran’s state broadcaster, which was bombed mid-broadcast by Israel on Monday, was many things to many people. It was the employer of hundreds of journalists, some of whom were injured in the attack, prompting protests from press freedom organizations. It was also the propaganda arm of a repressive regime, which has broadcast the “confessions” of hundreds of the regime’s opponents over the years, many believed to have been extracted by torture.

What it was not is an integral component of Iran’s nascent nuclear program.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said his country had “no choice” but to launch airstrikes to stop Iran’s imminent rush to acquire a nuclear bomb. But it has also been apparent that this was the floor, not the ceiling, of Israel’s ambitions.

The Israeli military operation is called “Rising Lion,” evoking the pre-revolutionary flag often flown by opponents of the Iranian government, a theocratic regime that has crushed protests at home and backed armed groups throughout the Middle East. While one Iranian nuclear enrichment site has been heavily damaged, others have been hardly touched. (Some of these may be difficult or even impossible for Israel to destroy without direct US involvement in the war.) At the same time, Israel appears to be systematically wiping out the senior leadership of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps and according to some reports, had a plan to kill Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which was vetoed by President Donald Trump. Netanyahu, meanwhile, has called for the Iranian people to overthrow their government, describing the strikes as “your opportunity to stand up.”

“From the beginning, it was apparent, based on the targeting and Israeli public messaging, that this had the potential to be something much more than just a counter-proliferation operation,” said Behnam Ben Taleblu, senior director of the Iran project at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies.

Retired Gen. Giora Eiland, a former head of Israel’s national security council with close ties to the current government, told reporters on Monday that regime change was not the “explicit” goal of the Israeli campaign, which is focused on setting back Iran’s nuclear and missile programs, but added, “I cannot hide that this is the implicit goal or dream or hope of the Israeli government.”

Could Iran’s regime really fall?

The Iranian regime has clearly been weakened by sanctions and the damage dealt to its regional proxy network over the past year. It has few allies, the ones it does have aren’t doing much to help, and recent nationwide protests show that there is widespread and deep opposition. But that doesn’t mean that the regime is about to collapse after four decades in power.

So far, there hasn’t been much concerted anti-regime protest since the strikes began, not surprising given that thousands are fleeing the capital city, Tehran. Abdullah Mohtadi, the exiled leader of a Kurdish Iranian opposition party, told Vox that the airstrikes had caused “mixed feelings” for his movement’s supporters. While few will mourn the death of senior commanders who had been involved in crackdowns against peaceful protesters, regime opponents are also fearful about the destruction and strife the war could unleash, especially if it continues for a long time. “War itself is not a good thing, but sometimes it presents a window of opportunity. I hope this will be the case this time,” Mohtadi said. Other Iranian opposition figures have explicitly rejected Netanyahu’s calls for an uprising, saying the bombing doesn’t help their movement.

It’s difficult to generalize about public opinion in any country of 90 million people, much less one where speaking out against the government can be dangerous, noted Ellie Geranmayeh, senior fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, but she said there was a risk of Israel’s bombing provoking a “rally around the flag” effect for disaffected Iranians.

“There is very little love from the Iranian population for the ruling elite,” she said. “But the more they are seeing pictures of hospitals under attack, civilian deaths rising, state infrastructure, like oil, gas, electricity being hit, sooner or later, public opinion will shift.”

Does America want another regime change war in the Middle East?

Still, if overthrowing the Islamic Republic, not just halting its nuclear program, is Netanyahu’s dream, that changes the stakes for the Trump administration given that Israel is fairly explicitly hoping to directly draw the US military into the conflict.

Regime change in Iran had been an implicit goal of Trump’s first administration, which pulled out of the 2015 nuclear deal, applied “maximum pressure sections,” and authorized the assassination of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, the second most powerful figure in the regime.

But until just a few days ago, it appeared that the new Trump administration was different. Hawks like Secretary of State Mike Pompeo were gone, replaced by America Firsters who argued the US should either be more restrained in using military force abroad, or that it should shift its focus from high-risk, low-reward engagements in the Middle East to the more important superpower conflict with China. The Republican Party, it appeared, had turned the page from the George W. Bush era.

In a speech in Saudi Arabia in May, Trump condemned the “neo-cons” and “nation builders” who he said had “wrecked far more nations than they built…intervening in complex societies that they did not even understand themselves.”

This Trump administration was perfectly willing to go behind Israel’s back to cut deals with Iranian-backed proxies like the Houthis and Hamas as well as negotiate with Iran itself on a new nuclear agreement. Even after Israel’s airstrikes started, and Trump belatedly embraced them, he still expressed hope that the Iranians would return to the negotiating table.

On Tuesday, however, Trump said he was seeking a “real end” to the conflict and might give up on diplomacy entirely, hinting vaguely that something “much bigger” than a ceasefire is in the works. He has called for the Iranian government’s “UNCONDITIONAL SURRENDER!” and suggested that Khamenei could still be targeted.

Now, longtime regime change advocates — like Trump’s first-term national security adviser John Bolton and Sen. Lindsey Graham — are coming out of the woodwork and urging the US to join Israel’s war, with Graham telling Fox News, “Wouldn’t the world be better off if the ayatollahs went away and were replaced by something better? Wouldn’t Iran be better off?”

Trump appears to have turned on antiwar supporters like “kooky Tucker Carlson,” while Vice President JD Vance, who was warned in the past that a war in Iran could spark “World War III,” issued a long statement saying that the focus should remain on Iran’s nuclear program.

What might regime change look like?

In his tweet, Vance noted that Americans “are right to be worried about foreign entanglement after the last 25 years of idiotic foreign policy.” The chaos that followed the US-backed toppling of autocratic governments in Afghanistan, Iran, and Libya looms over this conflict, as do Israel’s bloody occupations of southern Lebanon and more recently Gaza. It’s not an inspiring track record.

Eiland, the retired Israeli general, was more optimistic, suggesting that while Iranians were unlikely to rise up while bombs are falling, the operation could make such an uprising more likely down the road. “Seventy to 80 percent of the people are not only against the regime, they have a very, very pro-Western approach,” he said. “So it will be relatively easy for these people to create a real distinguished and successful society again, but only after they manage to get rid of the existing regime.”

The hope for Israel may be that regime change would look less like Iraq after 2003 or Libya after 2011 than Syria after last year’s overthrow of Bashar al-Assad. Though that hasn’t quite ushered in complete peace or democracy, there’s been far less instability and bloodshed than many feared following the fall of one of the world’s most repressive regimes.

On the other hand, that outcome came only after a 13-year war that killed more than half a million people and resulted in one of the world’s largest refugee crises and the rise of ISIS.

Ali Vaez, Iran analyst at the International Crisis Group, said a more realistic outcome might look more like either Syria after the initial uprising of 2011, or Iraq following the 1991 Gulf War. “You might have a weakened central government that loses control over some parts of its territory, but the regime itself will be entrenched, and even if it’s decaying,” he said.

None of these outcomes are foreordained. Trump’s stance on the war has shifted on a dime in recent days and could shift again. Trump’s restraint-oriented advisers may have lost some influence, but wealthy governments across the Persian Gulf and major oil companies may also be wary about a long war that could put them in the crosshairs. Trump has traditionally been more comfortable with short, overwhelming military actions — like the Soleimani strike, or the strikes against Syria in 2017 — than long, drawn-out wars, which this very well could become.

“It could be years of instability, and by the time he leaves the White House, that war would not be over,” said Alex Vatanka, senior fellow at the Middle East Institute. “All I can tell you is that this regime is hated by its people, but also that the US and Israel don’t have a good track record in nation building.”

For now, Trump appears all-in rhetorically on the war, using the pronoun “we” when referring to Israeli military action, but also hasn’t yet committed US military forces, though he has suggested that would change if US assets were targeted by Iran. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time that early tactical success in a war has led the US into a much larger, more ambitious, and bloodier conflict than was initially planned.

Members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) are accused of quietly taking over $21 million worth of cryptocurrencies while looking into wrongdoing at Cryptoland, a now-closed crypto exchange.

The situation began when Sina Estavi, Cryptoland’s CEO, was arrested in 2021 on charges of harming Iran’s financial system. This led to the shutdown of the exchange and left over 51,000 users without access to their funds.

Later, agents from the IRGC’s intelligence and economic crimes units were given control of the seized assets. But instead of protecting the funds, several of them allegedly moved tokens to wallets under their control and sold them.

Iran International, a Persian-language satellite television channel, named Mehdi Hajipour and Mehdi Badi as central figures in the scheme. Hajipour was found to have moved millions in BRG tokens, the platform’s native coin. Reports say his personal wealth jumped from around $40,000 to over $14 million within four months.

The situation became more serious when Hajipour was caught taking a $10,000 payment from Estavi. Estavi thought he was buying back some of the stolen tokens through a third party, but the buyer was Hajipour using a fake identity.

Two more IRGC members, Majid Jahan Parto and Majid Tabatabaei, were linked to the scheme. Four others are accused of creating fake documents to cover up the transactions. Badi, one of the main suspects, is also related to a former high-ranking IRGC official.
