Testing Your CoinPayments Integration

Now that you have finished Integrating CoinPayments into your business, and have reviewed and enabled the appropriate Additional CoinPayments Features, there’s just one thing left to do – test it!

Luckily, CoinPayments already has a free cryptocurrency dedicated to testing transactions for your integration – it’s called Litecoin Testnet (LTCT). 

The best way to test your specific integration is to go through the process of checking out in your store using CoinPayments, selecting to pay with the LTCT coin, and then checking to make sure everything went smoothly and as expected. It’s important to remember that LTCT has no real value, so you should only enable it for testing purposes, and remember to disable it for production use.

1) Enable Litecoin Testnet Payments & Get Free LTCT

  1. Log into your CoinPayments account and click the Coin Settings tab on the dashboard.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and make sure the box beside Litecoin Testnet (LTCT) is checked. Screenshot: Enable LTCT Payments
  3. Click the Update Coin Preferences button. Now you have enabled payments with LTCT.
  4. Click the Your Wallet tab on the dashboard.
  5. Scroll down to the bottom and click the Get LTCT button. Screenshot: Get LTCT
  6. In a few seconds you can refresh the Wallets page and scroll to the bottom to see that you have received 10 LTCT

2) Test Integration

  1. Log out of your CoinPayments account.
  2. Navigate through your store, send an invoice, click a payment button or get to whatever point in your integration where you are ready to Checkout with CoinPayments.
  3. At the Coin Selection screen, make sure to choose to pay with Litecoin Testnet (LTCT). Enter any other required information (usually First/Last Name, Email). Screenshot: Pay With LTCT
  4. Click the Complete Checkout button.
  5. Copy the LTCT payment address and the make a note of the amount of LTCT to complete the payment.
  6. Login to your CoinPayments account and click the Your Wallet tab on the dashboard
  7. Scroll down to the Litecoin Testnet wallet and click the LTCT Options button and then click Send/Withdraw
  8. Enter the amount of LTCT to send and the LTCT address to which to send the payment, then enter your 2FA device code and click the Request Withdrawl/Send button. Screenshot: Send LTCT Test Payment
  9. Login to your email account and click the verification link in the withdraw request email from CoinPayments.
  10. Alternatively, you can use the CoinPayments App to scan the QR code and send the LTCT payment.
  11. Once the payment completes (after the appropriate number of confirmations), you should review the transaction to make sure everything worked out properly. Did your ecommerce store update the payment status? Does it indicate that you can move onto the next step (ie. shipping a product, sending a download link, etc…)? Did your CoinPayments account log the incoming payment as complete (See the Home tab on the dashboard)?
  12. If your integration is working properly, then you are all set to start accepting crypto payments in your business. Please remember to disable LTCT payments in your store.

3) Disable Litecoin Testnet Payments

  1. Log into your CoinPayments account and click the Coin Settings tab on the dashboard.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the page and make sure the box beside Litecoin Testnet (LTCT) is unchecked.(Screenshot)
  3. Click the Update Coin Preferences button. Now you have disabled payments with LTCT.

Important Things to Know About Litecoin Testnet (LTCT):

  • Litecoin Testnet (LTCT) uses an alternate blockchain that is set aside for testing and experimental purposes. The coins have no monetary value and the developers may reset the chain in future versions of the client.
  • For testing purposes, LTCT is set to an artificial exchange rate of 1 LTCT = 1 BTC in our system.
  • Regular Litecoin and LTCT addresses are different, so you cannot create transactions between the two blockchains.
  • After 7 days of inactivity with the CoinPayments LTCT wallet, the LTCT coins are removed from the CoinPayments LTCT wallet and sent back to the pool.

Enable Useful Merchant Payment Features

Now that you have completed your ecommerce store integration setup, you may want to consider using some of the additional convenience features offered through the CoinPayments platform, such as:

  1. Auto-Sweep
  2. Auto-Convert & Forwarding
  3. Fiat Settlement
  4. Discounts & Mark-Ups
  5. Secured Vaulting
  6. $PayByName

These automated features help manage the coins in your account by forwarding balances to other wallets, converting balances to other coins, settling balances to fiat, storing balances more securely, and much more. 

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to set them up:

1) Auto-Sweep

The Auto-Sweep feature allows you to automatically withdraw and/or convert your entire balance of a specific coin every night (at approx. midnight EST, GMT-0500). 

Once enabled, this feature will allow you to automatically take your entire balance (when above a certain minimum amount set by you) and convert it to another coin (if the conversion pair is supported) and/or send off the CoinPayments platform to any address you specify. 

This feature needs to be set up for each coin individually. Conversion is supported for any coin listed on ShapeShift, Changelly or Kyber. 

**Please note the conversion feature requires you to generate a new wallet address for the coin you want to convert into (done through the wallets page).

To setup Auto-Sweep:

  1. Login to your CoinPayments account.
  2. Go to the Your Wallet tab on the dashboard.
  3. Scroll down to find the wallet of the coin for which you want to setup Auto-Sweep.
  4. Click the Options button dropdown menu on the right, then click Auto-Sweep. Screenshot: Auto-Sweep Menu
  5. Click the check box at the top to Enable Auto-Sweep. Screenshot: Auto-Sweep Settings
  6. Select if you want the coin to be automatically converted before withdrawing.
  7. Enter the wallet address you want to withdraw to (if converting you can leave blank to send back to the CoinPayments wallet of the converted coin).
  8. Enter the minimum amount/balance of coin to trigger the Auto-Sweep feature (must be higher than the Minimum Auto-Sweep Amount).
  9. Click the Update Settings button to save your changes.

2) Auto-Convert & Forwarding

When you receive a payment as a merchant you can (in real-time) have that payment converted into another coin (Auto-Convert) or have that payment forwarded directly to a specified address, typically off the CoinPayments platform (Forwarding). 

To set up automatic conversions of a balance of coins every night, please use the Auto-Sweep feature above. 

**Please note the conversion feature requires you to generate a new wallet address for the coin you want to convert into (done through the wallets page).

The Auto-Convert feature is handy for merchants looking to accept many different coins as payment, but only wanting to receive and store a specific coin in their wallet. 

Both Auto-Convert & Forwarding features are enabled for each individual coin as a Payout Mode option in the Coin Settings tab on the dashboard. 

The Payout Mode options are:

  • To Balance: Received payments are stored in your CoinPayments wallet for later withdrawal at your leisure.
  • ASAP: Received payments are sent to the address you specify as soon as they are received and confirmed.
  • Nightly: Received payments are grouped together and sent daily (at approx. midnight EST). Rather than paying sending fees for each transaction (like ASAP), you pay only one sending fee for the entire group.
  • To Balance + Convert: Received payments are converted to the selected coin and stored in your CoinPayments wallet. In some cases such as if the amount received is too large to convert at current market volumes you may receive the original currency instead.
  • ASAP + Convert: Received payments are converted to the selected coin and sent to the address specified. In some cases such as if the amount received is too large to convert at current market volumes you may receive the original currency instead in your CoinPayments wallet.

To setup Auto-Convert and/or Forwarding:

  1. When logged into your CoinPayments account, go to the Coin Settings tab on the dashboard.
  2. Find the coin you want to enable and click the Payout Mode drop down menu beside it. Screenshot: Payout Mode
  3. Select To Balance + Convert (send converted coins to your CoinPayments wallet) OR select ASAP + Convert (send converted coins to address you specify).
  4. A new dropdown box will appear below. Select which coin you want to convert the payment into.
  5. If you selected ASAP + Convert, then enter the address where you want to send the converted coins.
  6. If you want to Forward the payment only (no conversion), then select ASAP, then enter the address where you want to send the payment.
  7. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Update Coin Preferences button.

3) Fiat Settlement

For convenience and to help remove price volatility, CoinPayments has integrated various fiat settlement services allowing merchants to convert (in real time) their incoming crypto payments into USD, EUR, CNY, AUS and many more. We have Coinmotion integrated to settle into EURO and we have Wyre integrated to settle into 9 different fiat currencies.

4) Discounts & Mark-Ups

CoinPayments has a built-in feature allowing merchants to set discounts or mark-ups on payments for specific coins. 

For example, you can offer a 10% discount on checkout when paying with Dogecoin or you can add a mark-up of 0.5% to cover our processing fee (or higher to cover conversion fees) when customers pay with a specific coin. The flexibility is available to allow you to customize the discount or mark-up however you want.

To set Discounts or Mark-Ups:

  1. Log into your CoinPayments account and go to the Coin Settings tab on the dashboard.
  2. Find the coin you want to enable this feature for and enter a percentage amount for the Discount or Mark-Up. Screenshot: Discount and Mark-Up
  3. Enter a positive number to provide a Discount for the customer when paying in this specific coin.
  4. Enter a negative number to add a Mark-Up for the customer when paying in this specific coin.
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click the Update Coin Preferences button.

5) Secured Vaulting

The Lock in Vault feature adds an additional layer of security to your account by placing a time-release lock on specific coin wallets. 

Once enabled, the entire balance of a specific coin can’t be withdrawn, transferred, converted, or used in any way until unlocked. You can still receive payments and deposits without interruption. 

Once you unlock your coins from the vault, you have to wait the pre-specified amount of time before getting access to your locked coins again. 

This additional security feature will notify you by email when unlocked, providing you with enough time to contact us in case your account has been breached.

To lock coins in the vault:

  1. Login to your CoinPayments account and go to the Your Wallet tab on the dashboard.
  2. Scroll down to find the wallet of the coin for which you want to lock in the vault.
  3. Click the Options button dropdown menu on the right, then click Lock in Vault.
  4. Read through the full list of what you can and can’t do while your coins are locked. Screenshot: Lock in Vault
  5. Enter the amount of time you wish to have the coins locked once they are released (the default is 24 hours).
  6. Click the Lock Balance button to complete the vaulting process.

6) Customizable Wallet Addresses & $PayByName

$PayByName

$PayByName is a feature on CoinPayments that provides one unique and convenient $tag to receive payments from all coins. 

Instead of having to input a destination wallet address for a specific cryptocurrency, the sender can instead use the receiver’s $PayByName, allowing the recipient of the transaction to receive ANY coin supported by CoinPayments to their one unique $PayByName. 

This feature can only be used when the sender and receiver are both using CoinPayments for the transaction. 

All $PayByName name tags are prefixed by the $ symbol. For example, CoinPayments’ own tag is $CoinPayments. 

A $PayByName tag can be purchased through the CoinPayments platform for $1.99 USD and lasts for 1 year.

To purchase a $PayByName:

  1. Login to your CoinPayments account and go to the$PayByName tab on the dashboard or in the navigation menu.
  2. Select to purchase 1, 5 or 10 $PayByName tags. Screenshot: $PayByName Purchase
  3. Click the shopping cart payment button in the Redirect box.
  4. Enter First Name, Last Name and select which coin you want to use for payment then click the Complete Payment button.
  5. You will be redirected to the payment screen to send your payment to address provided.
  6. When payment completes, go back to the$PayByName page and you should see a new “Unclaimed” $PayByName tag.

  9. If the tag is available you will be redirected back to the $PayByName page where it will show the expiry date.
  10. You can now provide this $PayByName tag to other CoinPayments users to receive payments in any coin supported by CoinPayments!

CoinPayments teamed up with Unstoppable Domains to enable users to simplify their wallet addresses. 

You can replace your long and complicated wallet address with a domain name of your choice. Choose any name you want, and receive cryptocurrency securely.

FIO Protocol

CoinPayments’ FIO Protocol integration is another way for users to send/receive crypto without long wallet addresses. Instead, all they have to do is enter a simple, human-readable FIO Crypto Handle (e.g., cryptofan@hodl) at checkout.

Use CoinPayments in your Business

Now that you have finished setting up your CoinPayments account and adjusting the settings to your liking, it’s time to move on to the next step.

This is where the details you recorded in STEP 1 will be used (Merchant ID, IPN Secret, API Public Key, API Private Key), in order to link your eCommerce store to your CoinPayments account.

Depending on how much automation you’re looking for and what type of platform you use to conduct your business activity, CoinPayments can be integrated via different tools available to businesses:

    1. Pre-Built eCommerce Plugins
    2. Custom APIs
    3. Payment Buttons
    4. Invoice Links
    5. In-Person Payments using App or POS

1) Pre-Built eCommerce Plugins

There’s a full list of the pre-built plugins and integrations for all the major eCommerce platforms. 

Scroll through the list of pre-built plugins and integrations and find the one corresponding to the eCommerce platform your business uses.

Then, download the plugin that corresponds to your eCommerce platformInstall the plugin and edit the settings. 

Next, enter your MERCHANT ID and your IPN SECRET into the plugin settings to complete the integration.

2) Custom APIs

Businesses who have built a custom eCommerce platform can take advantage of the well documented set of APIs to complete the integration.

Our APIs are the ideal way to integrate CoinPayments into unique types of businesses, like platforms that deal with payments for their users, membership sites, online gaming sites, and any other type of business looking for automation with cryptocurrency payments.

There’s an overview of how our APIs work, the payment process, and the two main types of payments.

To Customize your APIs:

  • Start by reviewing the documentation of our Instant Payment Notifications (IPNs). This will help give you an idea of what details you can expect to receive via the response from the IPN.
  • After reviewing the document, you should examine the 2 different types of transactions used for accepting payments. Once you decide the appropriate function to use, you can review the rest of the documentation for our APIs
  • Keep in mind, when using our APIs, you will need to reference your API PUBLIC KEY and API PRIVATE KEY from STEP 1
  • When you have completed your integration using our APIs, make sure to test it out using a free cryptocurrency we support called Litecoin Testnet.

3) Payment Buttons

The Payment Button integration can help businesses quickly incorporate cryptocurrency payments on a website. 

This feature is ideal for businesses who have single product offerings, charities that want to add a donation button, or any other business where the price linked to a button is fixed (ie. no cart with multiple products being added/removed).

You can get started with a Simple Payment Button, or you can use an Advanced Payment Button for allowing users to modify quantities. If you’re a charity, you can take advantage of a Donation Button with presets or adjustable amounts.

This step will require your MERCHANT ID or if you’re logged into CoinPayments, the field will be automatically filled in. 

Once you have filled in the appropriate information for your button, and selected an image to use for your button, click the “Generate Button” button at the bottom of the page.

You will be redirected to a page where we will provide the html code for the button you just designed. Copy the code and insert it wherever appropriate on your website.

4) Invoice Links

Businesses that invoice clients for their products or services can use our Invoice Builder to create an invoice for a client and email them the link. When the customer decides to pay the invoice, they just have to click the link and follow the prompts.

To get your payment link, you need to fill out the information in the Invoice Builder. To proceed, you will require your MERCHANT ID or if you’re logged into CoinPayments, the field will be automatically filled in.

The invoice link that’s generated is quite long, so you may want to check the last box “Shorten URL with goo.gl” for a shorter link.

Once you fill in the appropriate information for your invoice link, click the “Generate Link” button at the bottom of the page. This will redirect you to a page where we will provide the link you just generated. From then, you can copy the link and send it to your customer.

5) In Person Payments

If you wish to use CoinPayments to accept cryptocurrency payments in store or in person, all you need is either a phone/tablet with the CoinPayments App or a computer with the CoinPayments.net site. 

Both methods use the POS feature, where the business will enter the amount to charge the customer, select the payment coin, and hand over the payment screen to the customer in order to complete the payment.

Using the CoinPayments App

Download the CoinPayments App from the Play Store for Android or the Apple App Store. Then, sign into your CoinPayments account via the App ( you only need to do this once when setting up the App).

When you open the CoinPayments App after setting it up, select the top “POS” option, and enter the amount of the payment you want to accept. Then, select the type of coin for the payment, and show the customer the resulting payment address/QR code so they can complete the payment.

Using the CoinPayments Website

Go to this link if you are using a desktop or laptop. This step will require your MERCHANT ID or if you’re logged into CoinPayments, the field will be automatically filled in.

Change the initial amount to anything you want (we suggest $0.00). This is only the pre-populated amount in the POS entry system and will be changed for every transaction.

Select whether you would like users to be able to change payment currencies. Then, click “Generate Link” at the bottom of the page.

Once that is completed, copy this POS Link that was generated and save it somewhere handy. This is the link you will go to every time you want to access the POS system to accept an in-person payment from a customer.

When a customer wants to make a payment, go to the POS Link and fill in the amount of the payment you want to receive. Select a coin for payment and show the customer the resulting payment address/QR code so they can complete the payment.

Now that you’re familiar with the various ways you can accept payments from your customers using the CoinPayments platform, you will be able to better decide which method is ideal for your business.

Account Settings and Important Information


To start accepting cryptocurrency payments, the first step is to create a CoinPayments account! Get started by following the steps below to sign up for a CoinPayments account and customize the account settings that are ideal for your business.                   

1) SIGN UP

Create your CoinPayments account here. Ensure you sign up for a Business account.  Screenshot: Sign Up Form

After signing up, make sure you verify your account by clicking the activation link in the email sent to the email address you used to register your account. Screenshot: Account Activation Email

2) ACCOUNT SETTINGS

Once you’ve verified your account, here’s how you can find your account settings, as well as any important information unique to your account (Merchant ID, IPN Key, etc…).

  • Login to your CoinPayments account for the first time and check your email for the verification code to log in.  Screenshot: Email Verification Code
  • Go to: “ACCOUNT -> ACCOUNT SETTINGS“ and then “BASIC SETTINGS”. In the tab, you will find your Merchant ID. You can Save/Copy your Merchant ID somewhere for later use. Screenshot: Merchant ID
  • In the “PUBLIC INFO” tab, you can enter your Name, Email, URL that will be displayed publicly to customers sending payments.Screenshot: Public Info
  • In the “LOGIN & SECURITY” tab, change 2FA method from email to Google Authenticator or one of the other more convenient options. Screenshot: Login & Security
  • In the “MERCHANT SETTINGS” tab, set your IPN Secret (this can be any strong/random string of characters). Save/Copy your IPN Secret somewhere for later use. Select your base currency and also toggle which notification emails to receive. Screenshot: Merchant Settings

3) COIN SETTINGS

Here, you can modify which coins you want to accept as payment and what to do after receiving a payment.

Go to: “ACCOUNT -> COIN ACCEPTANCE SETTINGS“, select which coins you want to accept as payment by checking the box in front of each coin, and then scroll all the way to the bottom of the page and click “Update Coin Preferences”. Screenshot: Coin Acceptance Selection

This is the first step you need to take in order to begin accepting crypto payments to your store. However, there are other options that you can configure (ie. conversion, fiat settlement, payment forwarding).

4) API KEYS

The API keys are what connects your store with the CoinPayments payment system. Here’s how to link your CoinPayments account to your eCommerce store:

Go to: “ACCOUNT -> API KEYS“. You can use the API Key that’s already there, or generate a new key by clicking the “GENERATE NEW KEY” button.  Screenshot: API Keys

You can now Save/Copy your API Public Key and your API Private Key somewhere for later use.

By the time you have finished going through the above step-by-step process, you should have recorded the following information for future use:

  1. MERCHANT ID
  2. IPN SECRET
  3. API PUBLIC KEY
  4. API PRIVATE KEY
