After introducing it in July, Google’s back once again with its Gemini Drops, and August has a lot going on.

Earlier today (Aug 13), Google highlighted its August edition of Gemini Drops, detailing everything new that’s been announced and still on the way to users. One of its major updates is “Guided Learning” for students, which they can use to ask for step-by-step help with Gemini. Students looking to study with a little more depth (and assistance) can provide Gemini with all the details they can before, and let the AI break it down in a more digestible fashion.

Google states in today’s post that Gemini will also create “images, diagrams, videos, and interactive quizzes” to further enhance a student’s learning experience.

Elsewhere, Google is highlighting its newest Storybook update for Gemini. Parents can now create illustrated and AI-voiced storybooks for their kids using their own photos, their child’s drawings, and more. The company states that parents can tell Gemin to create a specific story based on a photo, and tell the AI their child’s age and interests to help create a short storybook they might enjoy.

This storybook feature is available for users globally on computers and mobile devices.

From Fun & Intuitive to new Gemini intelligence

There is an update that concerns Gemini Ultra subscribers this month, and that’s the AI’s “Deep Thinking” upgrade. As Google states, Deep Thinking enables the AI to understand and provide better answers for users with complex math and coding problems. The company states Deep Thinking upgrades Gemini’s “reasoning,” likely making the answers it returns more comprehensive.

A big Gemini update just started rolling out this week, which Google briefly mentions, and that involves “personal context.” Essentially, the personal context feature enables Gemini to remember and callback to previous chats you’ve had with it. These older chats will help it remember key details about you automatically without you needing to repeat yourself. If you’ve previously asked Gemini for a recipe, but said you were allergic to a specific seasoning, the next time you look for inspiration, Gemini will (ideally) keep that allergy in mind.

Of course, the AI can still mess up, so it’s always worth keeping an eye out for that. Additionally, “Temporary Chats” arrive, giving users a little more privacy when asking questions that you don’t want Gemini to remember. Temporary Chats were announced on August 13, but Google states this will take some time to reach more users, so it might take a few weeks.

Google first introduced Gemini Drops in July, where it creates a complete roundup of the latest updates for the AI.

At MWC 2025, Google confirmed it was working on screen and video share capabilities for Gemini Live, codenamed “Project Astra”. At that time, Google promised that the feature would begin rolling out soon, and now some users have spotted it in the wild.

According to a video shared by a Reddit user who owns a Xiaomi phone with a Gemini Advanced subscription, you can now share your phone’s screen with Gemini Live and ask questions about it.

The integration is interesting because you can ask AI questions about what’s on your screen and have a lengthy discussion, and Gemini will remember the context.

For example, if you open Chrome, then go to Wikipedia, and invoke Gemini Live, you can ask Gemini to summarize what you see on the screen.

This means if you’re browsing the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) page on Wikipedia, you can use Gemini to sum up the numbers for you or explain key economic terms to you.

You can even ask it to read for you or turn the page into a melody or rephrase it in a language of your choice.

Gemini will understand the context because it can see what you’re doing with your phone.

Google previously said that Gemini’s screen-sharing capabilities would roll out to Gemini Advanced subscribers only, which starts at $19.99 per month.

Gemini co-founder Cameron Winklevoss has urged the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to compensate the crypto exchange for its legal expenses and dismiss officials involved in its now-closed investigation.

On Feb. 26, Winklevoss disclosed that the SEC had officially dropped its investigation into Gemini without filing charges.

The exchange later confirmed this, noting that the decision came nearly two years after the inquiry began and almost a year after receiving a Wells Notice.

The SEC’s decision aligns with its recent pattern of withdrawing cases against crypto firms. In the past week alone, the agency has abandoned investigations into OpenSea, Robinhood, and Uniswap and paused its lawsuit against Binance.

Slams SEC’s approach

Despite the SEC’s decision, Winklevoss condemned the agency’s actions, arguing that the prolonged investigation had significantly damaged the crypto industry and the US economy.

He estimated that Gemini alone incurred tens of millions in legal fees and suffered hundreds of millions in lost innovation and productivity.

According to him:

“The SEC cost us tens of millions of dollars in legal bills alone and hundreds of millions in lost productivity, creativity, and innovation. Of course Gemini is not alone. The SEC’s behavior in aggregate towards other crypto companies and projects cost orders of magnitude more and caused unquantifiable loss in economic growth for America.”

Winklevoss pointed out that the SEC’s aggressive enforcement approach discouraged engineers and entrepreneurs from entering crypto. He also highlighted how some projects might have been abandoned or never even started because of the hostile enforcement environment.

To prevent such regulatory overreach, Winklevoss suggested that companies should be reimbursed triple their legal costs if investigations fail to result in charges. He also recommended that SEC officials responsible for unjustified enforcement actions be permanently barred from future agency roles.

He added:

“Just like the SEC bars individuals from trading securities if they break the law, there should be a process that bars those like Gary Gensler who weaponize the law, as well those who participate in the weaponization, from ever being appointed to or hired by an agency again. Lifetime ban in this case.”

Winklevoss concluded that without real accountability, regulatory agencies would continue to hinder innovation and economic growth in the United States.

He said:

“We will not rebuild trust and integrity in federal agencies unless there are serious consequences for bad faith actors. Operation Chokepoint didn’t stop at 1.0. It continued to 2.0 because not enough was done to hold bureaucrats accountable for their actions during 1.0. And there will be a 3.0 unless there is a real, public reckoning for 2.0.”
