Fundstrat’s head of research, Tom Lee, says the Federal Reserve may be forced into a rate-cutting phase after overdoing monetary tightening.

In a new interview on CNBC, Lee says he’s watching for a point when the Fed could run into an “accident,” where it waits too long to address a slowing economy.

Lee says he’s anticipating a potential “panic” scenario from the Fed.

“There could be an accident because what we are ignoring is that housing is choking and collapsing under the weight of higher interest rates, and the labor market isn’t as strong as it appears.

When we look at the ability to get a job, it’s much harder. So… there’s long and variable lags, and there could be an accident where the Fed would have to panic, so I think that’s something we have to watch in the incoming data…

I think there could be a point where the Fed suddenly realizes the risks are actually to the downside for the economy weakening, and so the Fed will actually have to respond to an economy that they’re strangulating and really fighting what they believe is a supply shock inflation. So I’m a little concerned that the Fed could be late if they continue to hold.”

65-Year-Old Forced Out of Retirement After Losing ‘Everything’ in Elaborate Bank Fraud Scam https://earlybirdsinvest.com/65-year-old-forced-out-of-retirement-after-losing-everything-in-elaborate-bank-fraud-scam/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/65-year-old-forced-out-of-retirement-after-losing-everything-in-elaborate-bank-fraud-scam/#respond Sun, 15 Jun 2025 13:32:37 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/65-year-old-forced-out-of-retirement-after-losing-everything-in-elaborate-bank-fraud-scam/

An elderly man lost his entire life savings to an elaborate scam that drained his bank account, ending his retirement plans.

65-year-old Hiep Nguyen of Houston, Texas, says he received a phone call with the caller ID of the “Vietnam Embassy,” the embassy of his native country, the local news station KPRC-2 reports.

But Nguyen says answering that phone call led him to lose $500,000 – the entirety of his life’s work.

“I lost maybe $500,000… I may be homeless now.”

The con artists who masterminded the scam convinced Nguyen that his identity was being used to commit various crimes overseas, like money laundering, and in order to clear his name, the soon-to-be-retired man supposedly had to wire over his money to another bank.

The criminals, who are yet to be identified, used an encrypted messaging app called Viber to send wire transfer details, along with fake government documents to make it seem more legitimate.

After losing everything, Nguyen’s daughter, Kathy, is now supporting him, and says she is in the process of selling her house to make ends meet.

Says Kathy,

“Watch out for your family. Your mom, dad, grandma, grandpas. Just let them know that something like this could happen, and just be careful.”

The Nguyens have filed a report with the FBI, but at time of writing, the scammers are at large.

Strategy stock is down 55% from ATH but forced liquidations highly unlikely – Kobeissi https://earlybirdsinvest.com/strategy-stock-is-down-55-from-ath-but-forced-liquidations-highly-unlikely-kobeissi/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/strategy-stock-is-down-55-from-ath-but-forced-liquidations-highly-unlikely-kobeissi/#respond Wed, 26 Feb 2025 07:38:49 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/strategy-stock-is-down-55-from-ath-but-forced-liquidations-highly-unlikely-kobeissi/

Strategy (previously MicroStrategy) stock has plunged more than 55% from its all-time high, fueling speculation that the company could be forced to sell off its massive Bitcoin (BTC) holdings.

With approximately 499,096 Bitcoin worth $43.7 billion, the firm has built one of the largest corporate Bitcoin reserves, but concerns are rising over its ability to sustain this strategy amid market volatility.

According to the Kobeissi Letter, the risk of forced liquidation primarily hinges on two key factors: a prolonged and significant drop in Bitcoin’s price and MicroStrategy’s ability to raise additional capital.

The company acquired its Bitcoin at an average price of $66,350 per coin. If Bitcoin were to fall well below that level and stay there, it could put pressure on MicroStrategy’s balance sheet.

However, liquidation is not an automatic process. The company’s debt agreements require a “fundamental change,” such as a bankruptcy filing or a stockholder-approved dissolution before creditors can demand repayment that could lead to a forced sale of assets.

Liquidity concerns

Strategy currently holds $8.2 billion in total debt, largely in the form of convertible notes that mature between 2027 and 2028.

Most of these notes have conversion prices below the company’s current stock price, meaning they are unlikely to trigger a near-term liquidity crisis.

With a leverage ratio of around 19%, the company’s Bitcoin holdings still significantly exceed its liabilities, reducing the immediate likelihood of insolvency.

For years, Strategy has followed a high-risk, high-reward strategy of borrowing money to buy Bitcoin. The company raises capital through convertible notes, purchases Bitcoin to increase its value, and then sells additional shares at a premium to acquire even more Bitcoin.

This approach has worked in past market cycles, allowing the company to sustain its position through Bitcoin’s price fluctuations.

Forced liquidation

The crucial question is whether Strategy can continue raising capital in the face of a declining stock price and market uncertainty.

According to the Kobeissi letter, if investor confidence erodes and the company loses the ability to issue new shares or refinance its debt, it may have to sell Bitcoin to meet its obligations.

However, for now, Strategy has time to navigate its financial challenges since most of its debt will mature several years from now,

While immediate liquidation appears unlikely, the company’s long-term stability depends on Bitcoin’s price trajectory and its ability to sustain its financing model. If Bitcoin remains stable or rebounds, MicroStrategy may be able to continue its strategy.

However, if the flagship experiences a prolonged downturn, pressure to sell could intensify, making forced liquidation a more realistic scenario.

Authorities in Chicago have charged six men in connection with the October 2024 kidnapping of a family and their nanny, during which the victims were forced to transfer millions in cryptocurrency.

The incident, detailed in an FBI affidavit, began when the suspects pretended to have damaged the victims’ garage door. Once inside, they used firearms to take control and forced the victims into a van.

The family was first taken to an Airbnb rental for one night before being moved to another location the next day.
