Samsung’s One UI 8 beta is now reaching more phones. The program yesterday expanded beyond its initial rollout to include the Galaxy S23 series and a selection of mid-range models like the Galaxy A55, A54, A35, and A34. Access is also now live for the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5.

Samsung’s Korean Community forum confirms the One UI 8 beta is live for those two-year-old foldable phones. Tarun Vats shared news of the rollout on X (via SamMobile).

This update weaves Galaxy AI deeper into your devices to simplify everyday actions. You’ll find major upgrades to productivity tools and a tighter, more seamless connection with Galaxy tablets and wearables.

It also brings a fresh layer of personalization, giving you more control over your themes, lock screen, and widgets. Underneath it all, refined animations and transitions make every interaction feel noticeably smoother.

You can join the beta through the Samsung Members app to preview the Android 16-based update early. As the screenshot shows, it’s a sizable download at over 3GB.

Once you’re enrolled in the beta, head to Settings > Software update > Download and install. When it’s done downloading, tap “Install now” to start the update.

The One UI 8 beta is already live for the Galaxy S25 and S24 series, plus the Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. Samsung previously confirmed the stable release would drop in September, starting with the S25 lineup, and will reach more Galaxy devices worldwide in October with Android 16 features and fresh One UI tweaks.

There’s no timeline yet for Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Flip 5 owners outside Korea, but this launch suggests a broader rollout is just around the corner, likely only a few days away.

Seeing as it hasn’t been very long since the Pixel 10 Pro Fold was announced, the rumor mill has quieted down, for now. So far, the only indication that we have about the Pixel 11 Pro Fold comes via a leak in January 2025.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold builds on the success of its predecessor, which completely left the Pixel Fold in the dust. Google’s latest foldable is the first of any foldable phone to feature an IP68 water and dust resistance rating, while also coming with Pixelsnap via the Qi2 standard, making it compatible with magnetic phone accessories and chargers.

As the dust settles on the August 2025 “Made by Google” event, we’re already taking a look at what the future could hold for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold.

Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold: What we know so far

The aforementioned “leak” only provided us with the codenames of the Pixel 11 lineup, with the 11 Pro Fold being internally known as “yogi” or “9YI4”. On the bright side, it offers confirmation that the third-generation Pixel foldable is in development, which is a good sign for fans of Google’s foldables.

More recently, a report surfaced claiming Google’s next in-house processor, the Tensor G6, would move to a 2nm process. This is possible due to the company moving from Samsung to TSMC, and with it, building the Tensor G5 on the 3nm process.

Since its inception, Google’s Tensor chips have never been able to match the power and efficiency of Qualcomm or MediaTek processors. While the Tensor G5 in the Pixel 10 lineup seemingly narrows the gap between itself and the Snapdragon 8 Elite, it’s still not quite on par.

The hope is that by moving to the 2nm process, Google and TSMC are able to close that gap completely, offering performance at least on par with what the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2 could bring.

The same leak that revealed the Pixel 11 codenames also gave us some insight as to some of the camera and AI features that are potentially on the way. Unfortunately, the Pixel 11 Pro Fold wasn’t specifically mentioned, but the leak claims that some Pixel 11 devices could offer “100x zoom capabilities through Machine Learning for both photos and videos.”

It’s also said that Cinematic Blur could gain support for 4K 30fps recording, along with a “video relight” feature that makes it possible to “change lighting conditions in videos.” This would go quite nicely with the other rumored addition, “ultra-low light video.” The expectation is that this would be a super-charged version of Night Sight Video, with the necessary processing taking place “fully on-device,” whereas the current iteration is handled in the cloud.

Google Pixel 11 Pro Fold: What we want to see

After Samsung introduced the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and its complete redesign, becoming the thinnest foldable, I won’t be surprised if people want Google to follow suit. While that would definitely be nice, it’s not a trend that Google should follow if it means losing out on battery life and the IP68 rating of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

Instead, we’re hoping to see hardware parity between Google’s foldable phones and its slab phones, specifically regarding the camera. When looking at the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and 10 Pro XL, both phones are equipped with triple rear camera setups, covering all of the bases for what you might want to take pictures of.

However, the Pixel 10 Pro XL includes an updated camera array, headlined by a 50MP primary lens, paired with a 48MP telephoto lens and 48MP ultrawide sensor. In comparison, the 10 Pro Fold sports a 48MP primary sensor, accompanied by 10.5MP telephoto and 10.5MP ultrawide cameras. Although Google claims it’s using an upgraded primary sensor, it’s still not on the same level playing field as its slab brethren.

This might not seem like a big deal to some, but the Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL’s camera array allows for extra features such as 8K video recording and High-Res 50MP pictures. Meaning that you can spend the $1,799 on Google’s foldable, but you can also save yourself $800 and enjoy a better camera experience.

Beyond that, there’s not too much that’s different that we’d want when it comes to the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. The only other exception to that is something that Google has already started working on, and that’s making its displays more friendly to those who suffer from PWM sensitivity.

With the Pixel 10 Pro, Pro XL, and Pro Fold, Google introduced a new Accessibility feature simply named “Adjust brightness for sensitive eyes.” As noted by Android Central senior content producer Nick Sutrich, who suffers from PWM sensitivity, the feature “at least doubles the PWM rate” when enabled.

However, the catch with the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is that this only applies to the inner 8-inch display, and not the 6.4-inch cover screen. Because of this, we can only assume that Google’s doubling up and using the same panel from the regular, non-Pro, Pixel 10 for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold’s outer display.

Although it may seem disappointing, it’s great seeing Google doing anything to move the needle when it comes to making its phones more accessible to everyone, unlike some of its competition.

A week after Google teased its regular slab Pixel phones, the company is now giving its foldable its moment to shine.

Late this morning (Aug 12), Google posted a YouTube video, teasing its upcoming Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The teaser, about 30 seconds in length, takes viewers over the phone’s design, which is pretty similar to what we got in 2024 with the 9 Pro Fold. Google is retaining its rounded corners and flat sides—flat screen, too—on the upcoming model.

Throughout it, the company’s narrator highlights the enjoyment of opening a new phone and then “opening your new phone” because it’s a foldable… get it?

Anyway, the teaser shows off the device’s hinge and a clear glimpse of its camera housing on its rear panel. We’re expecting the foldable to provide a triple lens system, with a 48-megapixel primary camera, a 10.5-megapixel ultrawide, and a 5x zoom 10.8-megapixel camera. The final glimpse involves the 10 Pro Fold’s inner display, which the teaser gives a complete look at.

The bezels seem to be the same when comparing the 10 series to the 9 series version. The teaser also shows off the device’s selfie camera at the top right corner of its inner display, which could arrive at 10MP during launch.

Google’s event for its Pixel 10 series launch is coming up on August 20, so we’re roughly a week away from seeing everything officially.

What’s almost as important is a recent Google teaser from last Monday that showed off the Pixel 10 design officially. In actuality, it was the company’s second teaser after its online store, but the video teaser through some shade at Apple over features that are still “coming soon.” Google poked its smartphone competitor over its Siri AI upgrade that still hasn’t arrived after being teased for the iPhone 16 series.

Additionally, while Apple’s timeline remains vague, Google stuck its foot in the door, saying its major upgrades are coming on August 20. Both the slab Pixel 10 phone teaser and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold seemingly show off the devices in the rumored “Moonstone” color. This seems certain due to its silver sides, but we won’t have to wait long to know.

Google is expected to launch the Pixel 10 Pro Fold in a few weeks at its upcoming Made By Google event, and there seems to be a lot more riding on the success of this model. Following Samsung’s impressive Galaxy Z Fold 7, it feels like many people want the Pixel 10 Pro Fold to match its wow factor of “look how thin I am!” However, I really don’t think Google needs to worry about (or should even be thinking about) Samsung when it comes to its own foldables.

These days, my focus has been primarily on smaller flip phone foldables, such as the Motorola Razr and Galaxy Z Flip. However, my time with the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold showed me a whole new world and gave me an appreciation for larger-screened foldable phones. It’s slim, stylish, performs well, and is overall a fun device to use for anyone who prefers these types of foldables.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is not likely to be much different from its predecessor as far as design goes, and following my experience with the 9 Pro Fold, this is perfectly fine, even if the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is arguably the more exciting phone. Here’s why I don’t think Google has to worry about Samsung.

This battle for thinnest foldable is kind of silly

Let me just start by saying that this battle for who has the thinnest foldable phone is kind of ridiculous. Samsung and Honor have been battling it out to the point where it basically comes down to measuring technique. Meanwhile, both the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Honor Magic V5 are as thin or thinner than some high-end flagship smartphones.

The difference in thickness between these two phones seems minuscule, especially with their large camera housings, and it makes Honor look a little ridiculous that it’s fighting so hard to retain its crown.

Then there’s the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. It may not hold the crown for thinnest foldable in 2025, but it’s still pretty thin. In fact, Google touted it as the “thinnest foldable available,” with the caveat that it was only referring to phones in America. That’s nothing to sneeze at and still an impressive feat for a second-generation foldable.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is rumored to have a nearly identical design, save for some changes in thickness and weight, and even some new color options. According to leaks, the foldable will measure roughly 5.2mm thick when unfolded, compared to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s 5.1mm. That’s a difference of .1mm when unfolded (roughly .3mm when folded), which, for a phone as large as this, seems hardly worth crying over.

If the Pixel 10 Pro Fold dimensions are to be believed, the phone would be roughly 2mm thicker than the Z Fold 7, but still about 2mm thinner than the outgoing Galaxy Z Fold 6. That still feels like a win to me, especially when you consider that Samsung’s phone still has a smaller battery than the Pixel 9 Pro Fold or its closest rival, the Honor Magic V5 with its massive 5,820mAh battery.

Not to mention everything else that Google may be packing into this phone.

The upgrades that matter

We’re just weeks away from the Pixel 10 Pro Fold launch, so there are plenty of leaks and rumors to go by, many of which seem pretty credible. Thus, we have a pretty good idea of what we can expect from Google’s next foldable, which may appear visually similar to its predecessor. It may not be a significant upgrade, but the biggest changes are expected to happen internally, and more than justify any potential increase in thickness when compared to the 9 Pro Fold and Galaxy Z Fold 7.

The first of those changes is a rumored increase in battery capacity. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold already has a larger battery than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at 4,650mAh (versus 4,400mAh), but it’s rumored that the Pixel 10 Pro Fold will squeeze in a 5,015mAh battery. That’s a difference of nearly 600mAh compared to Samsung’s foldable, and I’m frankly okay with a slightly thicker phone if it means I can get more battery life.

I wasn’t a fan of Samsung giving the Galaxy S25 Edge a smaller battery than the base Galaxy S25 to achieve its level of thinness. To me, shaving off a few millimeters doesn’t mean anything if you have to sacrifice a larger battery, particularly in a day and age when smartphones are doing so much more and demand more power. Sure, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold probably won’t win any thinness competitions, but the trade-off may be well worth it.

We’ve also seen leaks indicating that the Pixel 10 series may be the first Android flagship phones to support built-in Qi2 magnetic charging. We’ve seen an image of what appears to be a base Pixel 10 with a “Pixelsnap” accessory, indicating that a separate case may not be necessary. While we haven’t seen this on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold, we can probably assume that this will also be included on the foldable, as it would be a pretty odd omission.

Adding Qi2 magnets to a phone likely requires quite a bit of internal reworking, so a bit of added thickness is likely one trade-off to adding a more convenient charging method. Another benefit to this is that it may increase wireless charging speeds from 8W on the 9 Pro Fold to a more respectable 15W.

Lastly, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is rumored to be the first foldable with an IP68 water and dust resistance rating. This could be the result of an improved hinge, making it more durable than the competition. I don’t know about you, but a more durable foldable sounds pretty good to me.

Thinner vs. cheaper

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is no doubt an impressive phone, but all those upgrades come at a price. The Fold received its first price increase in years, bringing the price back up to $2,000. Granted, $1,799 was already a pretty penny to pay for a phone, and $2,000 is more than I pay for rent in Seattle, WA. Sure, you can chalk it up to “it’s just a $200 difference,” but think of what you could get for that $200, such as a Galaxy Z Fold 7 case, screen protector, and/or some other accessory.

Meanwhile, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold is rumored to launch at the same $1,799 price tag as its predecessor. With that, you’ll likely get a more capable processor, faster and more convenient charging, a larger battery, and more. All of that in a phone that will probably be relatively thin and potentially more durable.

If Google keeps the $1,799 price, then it’s already won in my eyes. The price of foldables is a major barrier for many consumers, and increasing the price doesn’t seem like the best way to attract more customers towards buying their first foldables. Sure, preorders of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 are up, which is an impressive feat, but I imagine many of those are not first-time foldable owners, and you’d be hard-pressed to convince me to pay that much for a phone.

Yes $1,799 is still a lot of money, but it’s much more palatable when you’re still getting a good phone that does pretty much everything you need it to do. And when the options for foldable phones in the United States are still quite limited, consumers will have to decide between the cheaper phone and the thinner one. I know which one I want.

I’m excited for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 may be expensive, but it finally makes Samsung’s foldables exciting again. As for Google, I believe that the Pixel 9 Pro Fold was its Galaxy Z Fold 7 moment, as it was a major departure from the original Pixel Fold and showed that Google is serious about the foldable space. It’s quite all right if the company takes a year to refine what’s already a great phone.

This may be Samsung’s year to take the foldable spotlight, but that doesn’t mean the Pixel 10 Pro Fold won’t be an exciting phone in its own right.

As we near the launch of the Galaxy Unpacked event, more interesting details about the upcoming products are surfacing across the web. The recent one includes the possible pre-order and availability details of the next foldables and smartwatches from Samsung.

The prominent tipster Steve Hemmerstoffer, widely known as OnLeaks on X, has shared the availability details of the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and the all-new Galaxy Z Flip 7E foldable phones. These three phones are said to be available for pre-orders starting July 9, which coincides with the launch date through the event happening in New York.

And those who have pre-ordered their foldable phones are likely to get their hands on them by July 25, which seemingly means that the devices will be available for the masses from the same day. According to the tipster, these dates apply to the alleged Galaxy Watch 8, Watch 8 Classic, and the Watch 8 Ultra as well.

If you are a consumer who often buys or pre-orders a Galaxy phone right at its launch, the projected approach of the availability should appear familiar.

More Galaxy Z Fold 7 leak and hands-on

As mentioned, with the launch less than a week away, the information surfacing about the foldables is making more sense and is increasing anticipation. More recently, someone even had their hands on the alleged Galaxy Z Fold 7 in its product packaging.

While the alleged Z Fold 7 looked familiar, a major change appeared in the colorway and a new approach to the three camera lenses at the back. The shiny blue looks interesting, and the camera lenses, according to the leaked images, are dropping the good-old black rings in favor of shiny silver rings. Overall, the alleged Z Fold 7, as rumored, appeared thinner than the previous iteration.

All in all, we can’t wait to see how the upcoming foldable phones are going to officially look, and Samsung might be aiming for the masses with the launch of an even more affordable flip phone, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE.
