Residents near Granbury, Texas, have been dealing with constant noise from a nearby Bitcoin

mining facility, owned by MARA Holdings.

The mining facility is located outside town in a part of Hood County without city limits. Some people who live less than a mile away said they have been dealing with the sound day and night.

The site began construction in 2022 under a company called Compute North. That firm later went bankrupt, and MARA Holdings took over operations in January 2024.

In interviews shared by More Perfect Union on July 24, people described constant headaches, trouble sleeping, and stress. One older man said, “It never goes away, headaches never go away”, while the sound of the facility could be heard behind him.

Some said the problem is serious enough that neighbors have ended up in the hospital. One person even blamed the noise for the death of a horse.

Environmental lawyer Mandy DeRoche explained:

It’s a different type of noise pollution. It’s not like truck traffic or anything like this. It’s a special noise that’s a low-frequency noise that’s coming from these operations, and it is incessant.

In October 2024, a group of residents took legal action against MARA, which was still going by Marathon Digital at the time. Their lawsuit said the noise was causing emotional and physical harm, and in some cases making existing medical issues worse.

FTX Founder SBF Moves to Calmer Terminal Island Facility After Notorious Victorville Stint https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ftx-founder-sbf-moves-to-calmer-terminal-island-facility-after-notorious-victorville-stint/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ftx-founder-sbf-moves-to-calmer-terminal-island-facility-after-notorious-victorville-stint/#respond Fri, 25 Apr 2025 03:01:46 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ftx-founder-sbf-moves-to-calmer-terminal-island-facility-after-notorious-victorville-stint/

Sam Bankman-Fried, the disgraced founder of cryptocurrency exchange FTX, has been transferred to a new federal prison following his stint in one of the country’s most notorious facilities.

The 33-year-old, who was sentenced in March 2024 to 25 years for orchestrating one of the largest financial frauds in history, is now housed at the low-security Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Terminal Island in Los Angeles.

SBF’s Starts New Chapter

The latest transfer comes as a major shift from his previous location, the Victorville Medium II Federal Correctional Institution in California, also known as “Victimville” for its violent and gang-driven inmate culture. Bankman-Fried had previously been held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center as well as a transfer center in Oklahoma.

Unlike Victorville, which is notorious for frequent stabbings and a harsh, race-based gang dynamic, Terminal Island offers a far calmer and less volatile environment. Situated along the waterfront in San Pedro, California, the facility reportedly provides inmates with scenic views, better food, and access to a range of programs. Terminal Island’s provisions include a law library, wellness initiatives, and vocational training in fields such as plumbing, welding, and cooking.

Inmates at the facility have spoken positively about its relatively low level of violence, with one source noting that the prison is “by the water” and considered a “wannabe political yard.”

Legal Fight and Prison Stunt

The shift in Bankman-Fried’s surroundings does not signal the end of his legal battles. He continues to appeal his conviction, which includes charges of wire fraud, securities fraud, and commodities fraud, and is actively seeking a pardon from US President Donald Trump.

SBF’s attempt to influence public perception includes a high-profile interview with Tucker Carlson, conducted while he was at Brooklyn’s MDC, which led to immediate backlash and a stint in solitary confinement. Meanwhile, Mark Botnick, a public relations strategist who had been representing the FTX founder, resigned after the stunt.

Terminal Island, which once housed notorious mobster Al Capone, American criminal and cult leader Charles Manson, and LSD advocate Timothy Leary, currently accommodates over 900 inmates, including other convicted fraudsters like video game entrepreneur Mouli Cohen.

Imprisoned FTX Founder Sam Bankman-Fried Moved From New York To Transfer Facility in Oklahoma https://earlybirdsinvest.com/imprisoned-ftx-founder-sam-bankman-fried-moved-from-new-york-to-transfer-facility-in-oklahoma/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/imprisoned-ftx-founder-sam-bankman-fried-moved-from-new-york-to-transfer-facility-in-oklahoma/#respond Fri, 28 Mar 2025 22:17:56 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/imprisoned-ftx-founder-sam-bankman-fried-moved-from-new-york-to-transfer-facility-in-oklahoma/

Imprisoned FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried has been on the move.

The former crypto executive was previously incarcerated in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, but Federal Bureau of Prisons (FBOP) data indicates he now resides at FTC Oklahoma City, a transfer center that temporarily houses inmates being transported through the prison system.

No reason for Bankman-Fried’s transfer was provided, but the FTX founder did recently conduct an unauthorized YouTube interview with conservative media personality Tucker Carlson. The New York Times, citing “a person briefed on the situation,” reported earlier this month that the unsanctioned conversation landed Bankman-Fried in solitary confinement.

The FTX founder reportedly interviewed with Carlson as part of a longshot effort to secure a pardon from President Donald Trump.

Crypto lobbyists are doubtful the disgraced FTX founder’s efforts will be successful, with one telling Fortune that Bankman-Fried had a “near zero” chance of landing the pardon.

FTX imploded and filed for bankruptcy in November 2022 amid accusations that Bankman-Fried mishandled the exchange’s funds by loaning out billions of dollars’ worth of customer deposits to Alameda Research, the firm’s trading arm.

The exchange’s multi-billion dollar collapse led to a sharp downtick in crypto prices, and US federal authorities arrested Bankman-Fried the following month.

A US judge sentenced the FTX founder to 25 years in prison last year after he was convicted of fraud charges in 2023. His current release date is scheduled for November 17th, 2044, per FBOP data.

Earlier this year, Bankman-Fried’s parents, Stanford Law School professors Joseph Bankman and Barbara Fried, reportedly met with lawyers and other figures considered close to Trump to discuss potential clemency for their son.

Joseph Bankman even penned an opinion piece in the Washington Post (with Berkeley law professor Mark Gergen) praising Trump’s plan for a US sovereign wealth fund.

Trump pardoned Silk Road creator Ross Ulbricht in January, fulfilling a campaign promise to Libertarian voters. Bankman-Fried, however, has much less grassroots support than Ulbricht.
