The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is charging a fashion tech CEO for allegedly defrauding investors of hundreds of millions of dollars by lying about its profits.

In a new press release, the DOJ says it’s charging 48-year-old Christine Hunsicker of New Jersey – the CEO and founder of clothing tech firm CaaStle – with numerous crimes after she allegedly forged documents to make it appear as if the firm was financially healthy.

Authorities say that Hunsicker knew that CaaStle was in financial distress “with limited cash and significant expenses.” However, to raise more funds to operate the company, she allegedly fabricated income statements, bank records, and other documents as a means of tricking investors into thinking the firm was profitable and had cash on hand.

According to the DOJ, Hunsicker raked in a staggering $275 million for CaaStle. Some of her alleged fraudulent activities include providing an investor with fake bank account screenshots showing the company had $200 million in cash when in reality it had 1,000x less.

She also allegedly falsified the signature of a board director to make it appear that the firm’s board had authorized the grant of stock options, allowing her to raise another $20 million.

Authorities also allege that Hunsicker defrauded investors of a new business venture, P180, getting them to invest $30 million by using fake information about CaaStle’s success.

All in all, Hunsicker allegedly raised more than $300 from fraudulent practices.

As stated by US Attorney Jay Clayton,

“As alleged, Christine Hunsicker defrauded investors of hundreds of millions of dollars through document forgery, fabricated audits, and material misrepresentations about her company’s financial condition.

The promise of pre-IPO (initial public offering) technology companies can be fertile ground for fraudsters who play on investor euphoria. Investors should be aware of these incentives and that pre-IPO companies are not subject to the rigors of SEC registration.”

Hunsicker is charged with aggravated identity theft, wire fraud, securities fraud, money laundering, and making false statements to a financial institution. If convicted, she faces decades behind bars.

Google Drive has received many Gemini-related features over the past months. However, many of these features first come to Google Drive on the Web before making their way over to the Android app. We’ve now spotted that Google Drive on Android could soon serve PDF summaries through the PDF viewer. Further, the ability to summarize files through the file viewer window will also support selecting multiple files to summarize them together.

Google Drive on the Web already serves automatic PDF summaries. Now, Google Drive v2.25.250 for Android includes code for PDF summarization through Gemini. We managed to activate the feature ahead of its release to give you an early look:

In the near future, users will likely be able to summarize PDFs that are either stored in their Google Drive or received through Google Drive. For this, they won’t need to exit the PDF viewer and ask Gemini within Drive to summarize the file — instead, they will be able to trigger Gemini from within the PDF viewer. Users will be able to click on the three-dot icon on the top right and choose the Summarize this file option. They can also tap the Gemini icon in the header and type in their request to summarize the PDF.

Note that this feature is unlikely to work with offline PDFs that you are opening through Google Drive’s PDF viewer, so don’t try summarizing downloaded files. Your best bet would be to keep the PDF files on Drive to get a summary.

Unfortunately, these PDF summaries are not automatically displayed yet, as they are on the web. However, this won’t be a big deal, as you will be able to manually initiate a summary for any PDF you need summarized.

In addition to all of this, the file summarization feature will also make it easier for users to summarize multiple files and folders. Selecting multiple files will be very easy, as users will likely be able to select multiple PDFs and Docs by long-pressing them. We managed to activate the feature ahead of its release for an early look:

Users will also be able to select a folder along with the files, but they may be restricted to selecting only one folder. We couldn’t get the process to work when multiple folders were selected, as you can see in the last screenshot above, where the Gemini icon no longer stays highlighted. Thankfully, there seems to be no limit to how many PDFs and Docs you can select, which should easily serve most needs.

NotebookLM is one of Google’s more useful AI products, which I use often to comb through reams of information. This week, Google pushed out its new Android app, which makes accessing the tool on mobile a little easier. Following a leak suggesting the feature’s arrival earlier this month, the Google product has confirmed that Video Overviews will soon become a part of its larger offering.

Currently, NotebookLM can generate Audio Overviews based on the information contained within sources you upload to its notebooks. Essentially AI-generated podcasts, these overviews are pretty useful for learning about specific topics. However, some topics would no doubt benefit from visual explainers instead. That’s where Video Overviews come in.

As detailed on NotebookLM’s X account, the tool will allow users to create “short video summaries from your sources, including PDFs, photos, and more!” The example it provides relates to the San Andreas fault, with AI-generated visuals explaining how tectonic plates work, graphics of earthquake frequencies, a timeline of the Earth’s formation, and other cute flourishes to keep viewers engaged.

The arrival of Video Overviews has no confirmed date, only a nebulous “coming soon” sticker.

For those who don’t fancy learning through AI-created videos, you can now customize the length of Audio Overviews. Users can now create “short (~5+ min), long (~20+ min), and default (~10+ min)” audio tracks. This feature is available now.
