Stablecoin issuer Circle appears set to deepen its role in decentralized finance by preparing a native launch of USD Coin (USDC) on Hyperliquid’s Layer 1 chain, HyperEVM.

On Sept. 12, blockchain researcher MLM Blockchain flagged test transactions involving USDC on HyperEVM’s mainnet, suggesting that a native deployment could roll out in the coming weeks.

Adding to speculation, the same wallet connected to Circle recently acquired about $5 million worth of Hyperliquid’s HYPE token.

The purchase reinforced the view that Circle is positioning itself more deeply in the Hyperliquid ecosystem. If the launch goes live, HyperEVM would join 24 other networks that already support USDC, including Ethereum, Solana, and the XRP Ledger.

Circle’s USDC is the second-largest stablecoin in the industry, with a market capitalization of more than $72 billion. Hyperliquid, on the other hand, is the dominant decentralized perpetual exchange, controlling more than 60% of the market.

USDC situation on Hyperliquid

The potential launch follows a public statement from Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire, who wrote that the company intends to be “a major player and contributor” within the Hyperliquid ecosystem.

According to him:

“We are coming to the HYPE ecosystem in a big way. We intend to be a major player and contributor to the ecosystem. Happy to see others purchase new USD tickers and compete Hyper fast native USDC with deep and nearly instant cross chain interoperability will be well received.”

Yet Circle’s push comes as Hyperliquid prepares to introduce its native stablecoin, USDH. That project has drawn attention from major players such as Native Market, Paxos, OpenEden, and Agora, signaling a real challenge to Circle’s position.

Over the past year, Hyperliquid has relied heavily on Circle’s stablecoin to power its markets, with around $5.773 billion in USDC supply on the platform. That concentration means Hyperliquid accounts for roughly 8% of all USDC in circulation, making it one of Circle’s most dominant chains, according to DeFiLlama data.

So, should liquidity migrate to USDH, Circle could lose as much as $200 million in annual revenue, which might impact its business.

Tether eyes deeper dive into gold with new $100 million investment amid market boom https://earlybirdsinvest.com/tether-eyes-deeper-dive-into-gold-with-new-100-million-investment-amid-market-boom/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/tether-eyes-deeper-dive-into-gold-with-new-100-million-investment-amid-market-boom/#respond Fri, 05 Sep 2025 11:06:03 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/tether-eyes-deeper-dive-into-gold-with-new-100-million-investment-amid-market-boom/

Tether, the issuer of the world’s largest stablecoin USDT, is reportedly discussing deepening its investment in gold mining companies as part of its wider expansion strategy.

According to a Sept. 5 Financial Times report, the company has held discussions with mining and investment groups to explore opportunities across the entire gold supply chain.

If the plan materializes, it would allow Tether to participate in every stage of the process, from mining and refining to trading and royalties.

Tether has not responded to CryptoSlate’s request for comment as of press time.

Meanwhile, the discussions coincide with renewed strength in the gold market.

Investors seeking safe-haven assets during the current global economic environment have pushed the precious metal’s price to a new all-time high of $3,550 per ounce.

This price rally has created a favorable backdrop for Tether’s interest in the sector.

Tether’s gold embrace

Tether’s reported interest in gold mining builds on its earlier moves into the sector.

The company spent nearly $90 million in June to secure a controlling stake in Canadian royalty firm Elemental Altus Royalties Corp. The deal involved purchasing 78.4 million common shares from La Mancha Investments, giving Tether 31.9% ownership and the option to raise its stake to 50%.

On Sept. 4, the stablecoin issuer agreed to expand its stake in the gold-focused firm by acquiring an additional $100 million worth of the company shares.

Beyond equity deals, Tether already issues Tether Gold (XAUT), a leading gold-backed digital token. The firm disclosed in July that XAUT is backed by more than 7.66 tons of gold stored in Switzerland.

Notably, Tether has also reported that its gold holdings represent over 5% of the reserves for its USDT stablecoins.

Tether’s expansion into gold signals a strategy of linking tangible assets with blockchain finance at a time when both safe-haven demand and stablecoin adoption are rising

USDT dominance continues

While expanding into gold, Tether’s core business remains unmatched in the crypto industry.

Data from Token Terminal shows that USDT transfer volumes reached a record $1.32 trillion in August, facilitated by 14 million unique addresses.

With a circulating supply exceeding $170 billion, USDT represents 59.2% of the $288 billion stablecoin market.

That scale makes it the sector’s most important token, cementing its role as the backbone of global crypto liquidity.

Bitcoin Risks Deeper Losses If $107,800 Line Fails To Hold – Details https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-risks-deeper-losses-if-107800-line-fails-to-hold-details/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-risks-deeper-losses-if-107800-line-fails-to-hold-details/#respond Sun, 31 Aug 2025 14:34:59 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-risks-deeper-losses-if-107800-line-fails-to-hold-details/ Since reaching a new all-time high of $124,427 on August 14, Bitcoin has entered a prolonged corrective phase, losing 12.18% of its value over the last two weeks. With market prices now moving within the $109,000 range, market analyst Yonsei_dent has identified a pivotal support level to the present bullish market structure.

Bitcoin’s $107,800 Line In The Sand: Support Or Breakdown Ahead?

In a QuickTake post on CryptoQuant, Yonsei_dent shares some technical insight into the Bitcoin market, highlighting several important price levels at the moment. The analyst explains that Bitcoin’s current market price is sitting almost directly on top of the Short-Term Holder (STH) Realized Price, an important metric that tracks the average cost basis of recently acquired coins.

Notably, investors holding coins for 1 week–1 month have an average cost basis of $116,400, while the 1–3 month cohort sits lower at $112,600. Meanwhile, holders in the 3–6 month range show a significantly cheaper cost basis of $93,400. When all these groups of short-term holders are weighted by realized capitalization, the blended average STH cost basis is calculated at around $107,800, i.e., about 1.45%% below present market prices.

Bitcoin

This alignment makes the $107,800 level a critical line in the sand, so to speak, for the current bullish structure. If Bitcoin remains above this threshold, short-term holders will remain close to breakeven, reducing the likelihood of widespread panic selling. However, if Bitcoin bulls lose this support zone, many new market entrants will fall into loss territory, increasing the potential for a heightened selling pressure.

In such a bearish scenario, market participants would likely turn their attention toward the $93,400 support area, where the 3–6 month cost basis resides. This level could provide the next significant cushion, given that investors in this cohort are sitting on healthier profits and are likely to display stronger holding conviction.

However, it’s worth stating that the situation is not outright bearish. A decisive recovery above $112,600–$116,400, representing the cost bases of 1–3 months and 1 week–1 month holders, respectively, could restore market confidence and reignite bullish momentum towards a potential return to the present market ATH.

Bitcoin Price Overview

At press time, Bitcoin trades at $109,400 following a 5.65% devaluation in the past month. Meanwhile, the daily trading volume is down by 27.02% and valued at $50.48 billion. With a market cap of $2.15 trillion, Bitcoin remains the largest cryptocurrency and fifth-largest global asset.

Ethereum’s latest retreat, a 13% drop from recent highs, marks its first weekly loss in over a month, breaking a steady uptrend that saw ETH testing multi-week highs. The correction, which briefly dragged prices below $3,400, has sparked debate: Is this a pause before a breakout, or the start of a more profound decline?

A fascinating counter-narrative has emerged: a whale bought $300 million of ETH, indicating they believe this dip is temporary.

On-chain data from Arkham Intelligence shows the massive purchase happened as prices were dropping – a “buy the dip” strategy from a high-conviction entity. This, as the broader market is reeling from macro pressures: a strong US dollar and weak non-farm payroll data, which triggered risk-off sentiment.

  • ETH price drop: -13% from July highs
  • Whale purchase: $300 million in ETH
  • Market cap: $422B
  • Trading volume: $28.8B (past 24h)

This divergence between price action and whale behavior suggests a potential reversal. While many traders are exiting on fear, the aggressive accumulation indicates a medium to long-term recovery outlook. It also comes as Ethereum is an institutional asset tied to upcoming ETFs and on-chain upgrades.

Ethereum (ETH) Price Tests Critical Zones

Ethereum price prediction is turning bullish as ETH is trying to recover from $3,374 – its lowest since early July. Price is testing the 0.236 Fib at $3,491, a level that was both support and resistance before.

A clean break above this could lead to $3,564 (38.2% Fib) and $3,623 (50%), with ultimate recovery at $3,681 (61.8%), which is also the 50-period SMA at $3,711.

Momentum is still weak. The 4-hour RSI is at 39, just below the 50 neutral zone. Without bullish divergence or volume confirmation, the price may stall at resistance.

A reversal candle (bullish engulfing) above $3,564 would add to the recovery. But rejection at $3,491 or $3,564 would be bearish and could drag ETH back to $3,374 or even $3,267.

Ethereum Trade Outlook: Watch the $3,564 Breakout

If ETH breaks above $3,564 with volume and a bullish candlestick, traders can target $3,681 and $3,765. This is Fibonacci and historical resistance, a high probability setup.

Trade Levels:

  • Entry: Above $3,565
  • Stop-Loss: Below $3,480
  • Targets: $3,681 / $3,765
  • Invalidation: $3,491 fails to hold

Bitcoin’s $115K Struggle: Is a Deeper Drop on the Horizon? https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoins-115k-struggle-is-a-deeper-drop-on-the-horizon/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoins-115k-struggle-is-a-deeper-drop-on-the-horizon/#respond Sat, 02 Aug 2025 08:27:23 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoins-115k-struggle-is-a-deeper-drop-on-the-horizon/ Bitcoin (BTC) is facing renewed downward pressure as it struggles to maintain levels above $115,000. At the time of writing, the cryptocurrency is trading around $115,745, down approximately 2.2% in the past 24 hours and nearly 6% below its July all-time high of $123,000.

The latest market movement has raised questions about short-term price stability, particularly amid growing concerns over weak structural support in the current trading zone.

Recent data from on-chain analytics platform CryptoQuant suggests that while long-term holders remain largely profitable, short-term sentiment has shifted.

Bitcoin UTXO Data Points to Changing Investor Behavior

Activity among Bitcoin Unspent Transaction Outputs (UTXOs), a metric that tracks coins being spent either in profit or at a loss, indicates that many investors are beginning to react to smaller price drops, potentially signaling increased market uncertainty.

In a recent analysis on CryptoQuant’s QuickTake platform, contributor Darkfost shared insights on how UTXO activity can reflect broader market sentiment.

“This chart, based on UTXOs from block data, highlights the number of UTXOs spent either in profit or in loss,” the analyst wrote, noting that this approach focuses on transaction count rather than value, helping filter out price-based noise.

Bitcoin UTXO metric.

Historically, Bitcoin has seen a dominance of UTXOs spent in profit, with patient holders benefiting from long-term appreciation. Between July 11 and 13, the ratio of profitable UTXOs compared to those spent at a loss surged above 10,000, meaning for every loss-making spend, there were over ten thousand profitable ones.

However, this ratio has since declined to around 500, suggesting that some investors are now closing positions at a loss even with minor price retracements. This change, according to Darkfost, may indicate short-term selling pressure despite the overall profitable status of most holders.

Weak Support Structure Adds to Downside Risk

Another CryptoQuant analyst, Maartunn, highlighted structural weaknesses in Bitcoin’s recent price surge. On July 10, BTC rapidly climbed from $112,000 to $115,800, but this upward move left little on-chain support in the price range.

“The move happened so quickly that no support levels were formed,” the analyst explained. “If momentum drops or sellers step in, the price could fall just as fast as it rose.”

With Bitcoin now hovering just above its last known on-chain support zone, analysts caution that a failure to hold this level could accelerate the decline.

Robinhood Pushes Deeper Into Crypto With Own Blockchain, Tokenized Stock Launch https://earlybirdsinvest.com/robinhood-pushes-deeper-into-crypto-with-own-blockchain-tokenized-stock-launch/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/robinhood-pushes-deeper-into-crypto-with-own-blockchain-tokenized-stock-launch/#respond Mon, 30 Jun 2025 16:00:00 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/robinhood-pushes-deeper-into-crypto-with-own-blockchain-tokenized-stock-launch/

Digital brokerage Robinhood (HOOD) is extending its crypto footprint with a slate of new offerings, including developing its own blockchain network based on Arbitrum

and launching tokenized stocks trading, the company announced on Monday.

The firm today has debuted its stock token offering, issued on the Ethereum layer-2 Arbitrum, for European users, giving access to over 200 U.S. equities and ETFs witt around-the-clock trading during weekdays. With the launch, Robinhood is expanding its crypto-focused EU app with tokenized stocks into an “all-in-one investment app powered by crypto,” the company said in a release shared with CoinDesk.

The firm also confirmed it’s building its own layer-2 blockchain network optimized for tokenized assets. The upcoming chain, based on the Arbitrum tech stack, is aimed to support 24/7 trading, self-custody and cross-chain bridging of tokenized assets. A release date has not been disclosed, but persons familiar with the matter said it could go live around later this year, early next year.

The company announced it’s opening access to private equity tokens, starting with tokenized shares in OpenAI and SpaceX.

“We will continue to work with regulators and bring the entire Robinhood ecosystem on-chain,” chairman and CEO Vlad Tenev, said during the launch event in Cannes, France.

HOOD shares, traded on Nasdaq, rallied to a fresh record high of $91, advancing over 8% during the Monday session.

Robinhood’s push into tokenized assets comes as competition with digital asset exchanges is heating up to offer a unified trading hub for all kinds of financial instruments. Asset tokenization is a read-hot sector that aims to bring real-world assets including equities, funds, real estate onto blockchain rails promising cheaper, faster and more efficient settlements and around-the-clock trading. It’s potentially a huge opportunity: the tokenized asset market could grow to $18.9 trillion by 2033, a report by Ripple and BCG projected.

A slew of popular crypto exchanges, including Bybit, Kraken and Gemini have just recently started to offer tokenized stocks to users, while Coinbase reportedly also seeks regulatory approval to do so.

Robinhood’s Tenev earlier this year touted asset tokenization as a way to expand investor access that assets that are limited to the wealthy, and advocated for clear U.S. regulations to tokenize securities.

While rivals have teamed up with regulated asset tokenization specialists to offer stock tokens, Robinhood is building its own tokenization engine to do so, Seong Lee, head of crypto products, told CoinDesk in an interview.

Perps in EU, crypto staking in US

As part of the firm’s crypt push, Robinhood is rolling out perpetual futures, a popular derivative instrument among crypto traders, for European users. Trades are routed through Bitstamp, one of the world’s longest-running active crypto exchange which Robinhood acquired for $200 million.

The firm has also introduced crypto staking for U.S.-based investors starting with Ethereum’s ether

and Solana’s SOL that lets token holders earn rewards without leaving the application.

Additionally, Robinhood will add crypto rewards to its credit card offering later this fall, allowing U.S. customers to invest cashback automatically in digital assets.

Bitcoin Bounces to $106K After Iran-Israel Jitters, but Analysts Warn of Deeper Pullback https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-bounces-to-106k-after-iran-israel-jitters-but-analysts-warn-of-deeper-pullback/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-bounces-to-106k-after-iran-israel-jitters-but-analysts-warn-of-deeper-pullback/#respond Fri, 13 Jun 2025 23:53:14 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-bounces-to-106k-after-iran-israel-jitters-but-analysts-warn-of-deeper-pullback/

The crypto market is slightly bouncing back from early Friday’s jitters on escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

After slumping to the $102,600 mark, bitcoin

rebounded to around $106,000 before fading lower in the U.S. afternoon hours with reports about a fresh wave of airstrikes targeting Iran. The top cryptocurrency was down 1.6% in the last 24 hours, changing hands at $105,200 and still less than 6% shy of its all-time high price.

Meanwhile, the CoinDesk 20 — an index of the top 20 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, excluding memecoins, stablecoins and exchange coins — has lost 4.4% in the same period of time. Tokens such as ether

, avalanche and toncoin were the hardest hit, slumping between 6% and 8%.

Crypto stocks, however, aren’t doing too hot. Most equities are in the red, especially bitcoin miners MARA Holdings (MARA) and Riot Platforms (RIOT), down 5% and 4% respectively. A notable exception is stablecoin issuer Circle (CIRCL), which is still benefiting from the windfall of its recent IPO; the stock is up 13% today, with news of retail giants Amazon and Walmart reportedly exploring stablecoins adding to the momentum.

Traditional markets don’t seem overwhelmingly concerned by the war. While gold is up 1.3%, potentially gearing up for new all-time highs, the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are only down 0.4% each.

What’s next for bitcoin?

“Nice bounce thus far and lack of follow-through lower,” well-followed crypto trader Skew said in a Friday X post. Market participants will likely remain cautious through the weekend with BTC tightly correlated with traditional markets amid heightened geopolitical risks, Skew added.

On the longer timeframe, some analysts see risks of a deeper pullback.

10x Research founder Markus Thielen noted that BTC’s drop below $106,000 translates to a failed breakout, and traders should wait for more favorable setups before rushing to buy the dip.

(10x Research)

(10x Research)

He highlighted the $100,000-$101,000 zone as key support, warning that a break below could mark a return to the broader consolidation phase similar to last summer.

John Glover, chief investment officer at bitcoin lender Ledn, argued that bitcoin entered a corrective phase from its record highs that could see the largest digital asset drop to $88,000-$93,000.

(John Glover, Ledn/TradingView)

Bitcoin’s potential corrective phase in a larger uptrend, per John Glover (Ledn/TradingView)

He said the $90,000 level could offer a favorable entry for opportunistic investors before BTC resumes its uptrend.

“Once this pattern has played out, the next move higher to the $130,000 area is expected to begin,” he said.

On Thursday, Bitcoin (BTC) prices dipped to below $101,000 as fallout between US President Donald Trump and world’s wealthiest man Elon Musk rocked the US financial markets. However, in the past 48 hours, the maiden cryptocurrency has registered a rebound climbing to above $105,000 before slipping into a sideways movement. Amidst these developments, a popular crypto analyst with X pseudonym KillaXBT has outlined multiple scenarios for Bitcoin’s next price action.

Behind Bitcoin’s Rebound From $100,000

In an X post on June 7, KillaXBT provides a profound technical analysis of the Bitcoin market discussing the recent price rebound and potential developments moving forward. After reaching a new all-time high near $112,000 on May 22, BTC entered a corrective phase falling by an estimated 10% into the $100,000 price range, before it’s recent rebound in the past two days.

KillaXBT explains this rebound is not random and was driven by a combination of technical and market factors. These factors include the daily FVG and volume imbalances which are price filled inefficiencies left behind on the chart.

Bitcoin
Source: @KillaXBT on X

Furthermore, there was a liquidity sweep as Bitcoin’s steady decline pushed prices below the previous weekly lows triggering many stop-losses from long positions. This development created a flush of liquidity for big players which served as a fuel in driving a market rebound.

Finally, KillaXBT talks on a short squeeze setup whereby the Bitcoin market turned short heavy when traders expected a further downside following the initial price bounce from $100,000. When prices started going up, these short traders had to buy back to cover their losses, adding more fuel to the rally.

What Next For BTC?

Looking to the future, KillaXBT has highlighted three potential scenarios for BTC. Presently, the analysts states the premier cryptocurrency is retesting a resistance zone between $104,800-$106,000 which aligns with the 0.5-0.618 Fibonacci retracement levels of the recent price drop.

For the first scenario, KillaXBT foresees a bullish continuation only if Bitcoin breaks and holds above this resistance region. Such a move could trap short sellers once again, potentially fueling further upside momentum.

However, if Bitcoin faces rejection at this specified resistance area, the second scenario comes into play, in which the price is likely to decline and retest the $100,000 support level. The third, final and worst case scenario includes a price break below the $100,000 leading Bitcoin to retest support zones around the $97,000 price region.

Interestingly, KillaXBT’s personal projection expects market makers to continue driving Bitcoin’s price higher, capitalizing on the recent sharp rebound that caught many short traders off guard. With no clear “safe” long entry yet available, the analyst suggests that pushing prices further would trap more short sellers while forcing sidelined bulls to chase the rally

At press time, BTC continues to trade at $105,600 reflecting a 1.16% gain in the past day.

Stripe unveils AI foundation model for payments and deeper stablecoin integration https://earlybirdsinvest.com/stripe-unveils-ai-foundation-model-for-payments-and-deeper-stablecoin-integration/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/stripe-unveils-ai-foundation-model-for-payments-and-deeper-stablecoin-integration/#respond Thu, 08 May 2025 03:17:08 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/stripe-unveils-ai-foundation-model-for-payments-and-deeper-stablecoin-integration/

Stripe unveiled a new AI foundation model for payments and expanded support for stablecoins and embedded finance.

The firm made the announcement at its annual Sessions conference, where it introduced more than 60 product updates. The enhanced stablecoin integration comes more than six months after the firm acquired Bridge for $1.1 billion.

AI foundation model

Stripe introduced the world’s first foundation model for payments, trained on tens of billions of transaction data points. The model dramatically improved fraud detection, increasing accuracy for card-testing attack detection from 59% to 97% among large users.

Stripe also launched Orchestration, a tool allowing businesses to manage multiple payment processors from a single Stripe interface.

The Optimized Checkout Suite also saw major upgrades. It now incorporates over 100 real-time signals to personalize checkout, support for over 125 global payment methods, and one-click Klarna integration via Link.

Additionally, Stripe revealed Authorization Boost, a new AI tool that improves transaction success by dynamically updating cards and retrying failed payments. It also teased the upcoming launch of Smart Disputes, which will automate chargeback responses with dispute-specific evidence.

Stablecoin accounts and global payouts

Stripe deepened its push into stablecoins and digital assets with the announcement of Stablecoin Financial Accounts.

These accounts will allow users in over 100 countries to hold, send, and receive stablecoin balances using both fiat and crypto rails. The company also plans to launch a USDC-denominated Visa card, enabling real-time crypto-linked spending.

Additionally, in a move targeting embedded finance providers, the firm introduced expanded functionality for capital, letting platforms extend financing to users beyond Stripe’s ecosystem through third-party data integrations.

Meanwhile, updates to Issuing allow for the creation of complex rules and increased program flexibility, including support for consumer credit cards.

Stripe’s Money Management updates enable businesses to store, convert, and move money across currencies and borders, with expanded global payouts in 58 countries using only an email address.

Is the altcoin market in even deeper trouble? https://earlybirdsinvest.com/is-the-altcoin-market-in-even-deeper-trouble/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/is-the-altcoin-market-in-even-deeper-trouble/#respond Sat, 29 Mar 2025 21:26:18 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/is-the-altcoin-market-in-even-deeper-trouble/

The following is a guest post from Shane Neagle, Editor In Chief fromThe Tokenist.

If anything can be learned from the crypto market is that if a shortcut exists, it will be taken. When digital collectibles in the form of NFTs emerged, the market was quickly saturated. In turn, speculative NFT buys on their resell potential shifted into a market rout.

Similarly with memecoins, no matter the rug pulls and pump and dumps, the allure of a quick buck on the ride up demonstrated the ruinous combination of low barrier to entry plus high hype potential.

But what about the altcoin market itself, outside of memecoins and NFTs? Is there a broader lesson, or even a threat, now that AI is an inextricable part of life? First, let’s examine what happens with NFTs as an enlightening parallel.

Oversaturation and Speculation Fatigue

Just prior to Terra (LUNA) collapse in May 2022, global NFT sales reached nearly $24 billion. The optimism was so high that JP Morgan projected $1 trillion in annual metaverse revenue within a decade. That forecast now seems completely out of place.

Although the cascade of bankruptcies, from Celsius to BlockFi and FTX, acted as a trigger for NFT market collapse, the writing was already on the wall. AI-powered image generators such as Stable Diffusion and DALL-E have drastically lowered the barrier to entry, opening the floodgates for derivative low-effort NFT collections.

Such AI-powered saturation drastically eroded the scarcity of collectibles, which ultimately drove down speculative PFP (profile picture) projects in favor of utility-driven NFTs and tokenized real-world assets (RWAs).

Altogether, the AI availability greatly exacerbated the underlying weakness of the NFT market – oversupply. This problem is now easy to see, as Ghibli mania is sweeping the social media space, generated by both ChatGPT and Grok.

In turn, the collapsing profit-making from NFTs induced speculation fatigue. Memecoins have mirrored this dynamic quite closely, with the help of additional AI-powered layers:

  • AI bots, such as Truth Terminal, swarming social media posts with AI-generated memes and narratives to promote tokens.
  • Sniper bots, such as Banana Gun, executing millisecond trades, further abusing the memecoin market by sending false demand signals.

The ultimate result of AI amplification is the creation of a market that is highly prone to bubble bursts. Consequently, repeated bursts cause exhaustion and ever-decreasing retail engagement — especially when participants are lured by hype rather than guided by sound risk management. But the question is, could this type of crypto exhaustion infect the altcoin market outside NFTs and memecoins, on a deeper level?

AI In Blockchain Coding: New Distortion Frontier

For years, it has been common to measure the underlying value of a blockchain project by developer involvement. This developer activity then serves as a signal toward prospective tokenholders. After all, if a project has few core developers, there is much greater risk the project will suffer if they leave.

In turn, there would be less effort going into bug hunting, new features, roadmap implementation and optimization. This is why many dedicated websites exist to expose this metric, tracking developer commits across different time periods.

In short, developer activity measures blockchain’s health status. As developers seek incentives, it may even reveal the blockchain’s adoption potential as their key long-term value driver.

But with AI in play, we are looking at a significant distortion potential. Over the last year, it has been widely accepted that AI models, alongside image generation, are at their best when it comes to coding. Specifically, Anthropic’s Claude 3.7 has been well received as a coding multiplier, capable of replacing junior software engineers.

This opens an entirely new landscape in which few senior developers can leverage their AI underlings to:

  • Generate smart contracts, from ERC-20 to BEP-20.
  • Craft tokenomics, whitepapers and even roadmaps.
  • Clone existing projects that are open-source, implementing a few tweaks.

And just as it happened with NFTs and memecoins, the lower the barrier to entry, the higher the oversupply potential. AI keeps lowering that barrier to entry, with the capacity for a full blockchain project pipeline, from smart contract code to social media boost.

It may even be the case that AI could fabricate smart contract audits by generating false confidence. When it comes to developer activity metric, AI tools can easily distort it with auto-generated commits and pull requests, or even fake GitHub accounts that generate minor and frequent updates.

Consequently, as new tokens come in the spotlight, it will be more difficult to assess its true value and health.

The Bright Side of AI-Powered Token Generation

Even in the early stage, AI models are becoming replacement-worthy when it comes to coding. This opens the door for churning out tokens with minimal effort, once again repeating the NFT-like cycle of flooding the market with low-utility tokens.

This will inevitably cause more exhaustion and disillusionment with the crypto space, as it will be more difficult to filter AI noise. By the same token, there will be advantages:

  • Bitcoin will be further fortified as a unique cryptocurrency that relies on real world assets (energy, hardware) via proof-of-work algorithm. As such, Bitcoin will serve as the anchor for the wider altcoin market.
  • Projects relying on AI code generation will result in more forks and zombie chains, but this rapid decay in activity will boost pre-AI legacy chains.
  • Projects with real-world use cases will continue to gain traction.

Ultimately, AI cannot sustainably fake adoption. Rather, AI will serve as a filtering mechanism to purge weak projects.

Unfortunately, memecoin activity over the last few years clearly shows that people seek out early opportunities in hopes of getting the coveted 10x profit lock-in. This is not an investor mindset but a quick buck mindset. Therefore, this driver will maintain incentives to use AI for crypto project generation for no other purpose than to extract wealth.

Yet, in the opposite direction, blockchain projects will also provide solutions. Case in point, OriginTrail (TRAC) project is leveraging Decentralized Knowledge Graph (DKG) to ensure verifiability of information used by AI.

“Even abusing social networks for political manipulations may look minuscule compared to a lack of trust in solutions to which we are “outsourcing” our cognition. Systems that we would trust to process large amounts of knowledge and provide us inputs for our actions or even perform certain actions autonomously, have the highest possible requirements for transparency and verifiability.”

Trace Labs whitepaper Verifiable Internet for Artificial Intelligence: The Convergence of Crypto, Internet and AI

Long-term, it would be prudent to expect further erosion of trust in the altcoin market. After all, it is likely that mass-produced, unaudited contracts will lead to not just rug pulls, but costly hacks. Onchain reputation efforts from Karma3Labs may help, but it is unclear if such innovative solutions could move beyond niche adoption.
