September 2, 2025 – Geneva, Switzerland – TRON DAO, the community-governed DAO dedicated to accelerating the decentralization of the internet through blockchain technology and decentralized applications (dApps), announced today that the U.S. Department of Commerce has selected the TRON blockchain as one of the primary networks for posting official economic data, beginning with the second quarter gross domestic product (GDP) release.

For the first time, a federal agency has published official GDP data to public blockchains, demonstrating how decentralized technology can safeguard transparency and provide global access to critical economic indicators. The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) reported a Q2 2025 GDP growth rate of 3.3 percent on an annualized basis, with the data hash recorded immutably on TRON with the transaction hash: 3f05633fb894aa6d6610c980975cca732a051edbbf5d8667799782cf2ae04040.

TRON’s Role in Securing U.S. Economic Data

The Department of Commerce recorded the SHA256 hash of the official GDP release on TRON, acknowledging the network’s proven ability to deliver scale, speed, efficiency, and global accessibility. Processing over $22 billion in daily settlement and more than 8.8 million daily transactions, TRON has emerged as a trusted layer of infrastructure not only for financial markets but also for the secure publication of government data worldwide.

“Publishing GDP data on chain is a powerful statement about the role TRON now plays as public infrastructure, not only for payments but for safeguarding some of the world’s most important information,” said Justin Sun, Founder of TRON. “This initiative shows how blockchain can advance transparency and trust in ways that strengthen both traditional institutions and decentralized systems. It is only the beginning of how public blockchains like TRON will redefine global access to data and finance.”

Publishing the GDP data hash on TRON highlights the role of decentralized networks in preserving data integrity, strengthening accountability, and ensuring open access for citizens, researchers, and policymakers worldwide. It also reflects the United States government’s commitment to leadership in blockchain innovation and to advancing America’s position as the global hub for digital trust and transparency.

In August 2025, TRON’s community governance approved a 60 percent reduction in energy fees, sharply lowering transaction costs and immediately driving adoption. Within days, TRON surpassed 2.5 million daily active users, overtaking both BNB Chain and Solana in activity, according to DeFiLlama data. The move was designed to preserve accessibility, particularly for stablecoin transfers, where TRON leads globally with more than $79 billion in USDT circulating on the network.

Through its continued commitment to affordability and accessibility, TRON is establishing the foundation for enduring growth and securing its position as a vital infrastructure for the future of the global digital economy.

The US Department of Commerce selects Kraken as a partner in historic initiatives to increase transparency in economic data https://earlybirdsinvest.com/the-us-department-of-commerce-selects-kraken-as-a-partner-in-historic-initiatives-to-increase-transparency-in-economic-data/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/the-us-department-of-commerce-selects-kraken-as-a-partner-in-historic-initiatives-to-increase-transparency-in-economic-data/#respond Fri, 29 Aug 2025 04:21:03 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/the-us-department-of-commerce-selects-kraken-as-a-partner-in-historic-initiatives-to-increase-transparency-in-economic-data/

Kraken was chosen by the US Department of Commerce to promote the groundbreaking initiative announced this morning by President Donald Trump and Secretary Howard Rutnick. This initiative, distributing US Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data on nine major public blockchains, marks milestones in the use of blockchain technology to increase transparency in economic data.

As part of this historic effort, Kraken has installed the Department of Commerce as a client, helping to procure cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (Eth), Solana (Sol), Avalanche (Avax), Stellar (XLM), Polygon (Pol), and Tron (TRON (POL)).

By recording an on-chain hash of this critical economic information, the Department of Commerce ensures that US GDP data is verifiable, tampered and globally accessible. This sets new standards for transparency in government reporting.

“This is a groundbreaking moment for both our industry and our country,” said Arjun Sethi, Kraken Co-CEO. “We praise President Trump and Secretary Lutnick for their vision to realize this initiative and are honored to play a role in its implementation. By leveraging blockchain technology to distribute GDP data, the US is setting up a global example of how transparency, trust and innovation can progress.”

“Today’s announcement is a powerful example of how governments and industries can work together to promote innovation across the global economy,” said Jonathan Jacyhm, head of Kraken’s global policy and government relations. “The message is clear: Blockchain technology is becoming more and more present than just the future of financial infrastructure.”

The initiative reflects the Trump administration’s broader commitment to integrating blockchain technology into key government functions and strengthening the US’s position as a global leader in digital innovation. It also uses public blockchains to mark milestones in the G7 economy to spread official economic statistics.

Kraken is still committed to providing safe, reliable and efficient services to support the Department of Commerce for this project and future initiatives.

Commerce Secretary Lutnick announces plans to issue US GDP statistics on blockchain https://earlybirdsinvest.com/commerce-secretary-lutnick-announces-plans-to-issue-us-gdp-statistics-on-blockchain/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/commerce-secretary-lutnick-announces-plans-to-issue-us-gdp-statistics-on-blockchain/#respond Wed, 27 Aug 2025 04:39:43 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/commerce-secretary-lutnick-announces-plans-to-issue-us-gdp-statistics-on-blockchain/

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick announced the Department of Commerce will begin issuing GDP and other economic statistics on blockchain during a White House cabinet meeting on Aug. 26.

Positioning the technology as a government-wide data distribution tool, Lutnick told President Donald Trump:

“The Department of Commerce is going to start issuing its statistics on the blockchain, cause you [Trump] are the crypto president, and we are going to put the GDP on the blockchain so people can use the blockchain for data distribution.”

Lutnick said the Commerce Department plans to make blockchain-based statistics “available for the entire government” while working through implementation details.

The announcement represents the most prominent federal blockchain deployment under the Trump administration’s crypto-friendly policies.

Existing federal programs

The Commerce initiative builds on existing blockchain pilots across federal agencies.

Treasury tested a grant distribution system using blockchain to track drawdowns with automatic reconciliation and audit trails, though it never launched publicly.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission operates a pilot program evaluating tokenized collateral and stablecoin-based financial transactions in regulated markets.

At the same time, the Small Business Administration has evaluated blockchain for monitoring fraud and performance metrics in loan programs, according to Government Accountability Office reports.

The Department of Defense and Homeland Security are exploring the use of blockchain for parts tracking, supply chain authentication, and digital documentation.

The Navy and the Defense Logistics Agency collaborate with SIMBA Chain to track high-value parts through blockchain ledgers, thereby reducing manual data entry in defense supply chains.

Customs and Border Protection previously ran blockchain trials to verify intellectual property data on imports and spot counterfeit goods.

Congressional support

The blockchain push aligns with pending congressional legislation. The “Deploying American Blockchains Act of 2025,” sponsored by Rep. Kat Cammack and passed by the House on June 23, moved to the Senate on June 24.

The bill directs the Secretary of Commerce to promote US competitiveness in blockchain deployment and applications.

The legislation would establish a Commerce Department Blockchain Deployment Program and create advisory committees that include federal agencies, private sector representatives, and blockchain infrastructure operators.

The program would examine how federal agencies can benefit from distributed ledger technology while addressing concerns related to cybersecurity and regulatory compliance.

The Commerce Department’s GDP blockchain initiative represents the latest federal commitment to distributed ledger technology for core government functions.

Coinbase launches stablecoin payment stack with USDC checkout targeting commerce giants https://earlybirdsinvest.com/coinbase-launches-stablecoin-payment-stack-with-usdc-checkout-targeting-commerce-giants/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/coinbase-launches-stablecoin-payment-stack-with-usdc-checkout-targeting-commerce-giants/#respond Thu, 19 Jun 2025 04:10:29 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/coinbase-launches-stablecoin-payment-stack-with-usdc-checkout-targeting-commerce-giants/

Coinbase officially launched Coinbase Payments on June 18, a three-layer platform that enables commerce providers to add USDC checkout without running their blockchain infrastructure.

The stack begins with Stablecoin Checkout, a wallet-native interface that supports hundreds of wallets, delivers gas-free transactions, and records payments in USDC.

Beneath it, an E-commerce Engine exposes application programming interfaces for authorization, capture, refunds, ledgering, and subscriptions, allowing payment service providers to integrate stablecoin flows into existing merchant dashboards.

At the base, the Commerce Payments Protocol executes smart contract escrow and settlement on Base, Coinbase’s layer-2 network, in sub-second blocks.

The company stated that the modular design eliminates the need for “crypto-native teams” and can settle global transactions at a lower cost than traditional card networks.

Early production use at Shopify

Shopify activated the stack last week for an early-access cohort of merchants, marking one of the first retail deployments of USDC at scale.

Buyers pay in USDC, and Shopify receives fiat payouts unless a merchant opts to retain the stablecoin.

Stripe helped abstract the crypto logic from sellers’ workflows, and Shopify plans to add 1% USDC cashback incentives for consumers.

Coinbase stated that Stablecoin Checkout handles consumer interaction, the E-commerce Engine manages merchant controls through APIs, and the protocol layer facilitates smart-contract escrow and settlement behind the scenes.

Market context and adoption target

According to Coinbase, more than half of Fortune 500 firms are experimenting with on-chain tools while roughly one-third of small businesses already accept some form of crypto.

By making stablecoin rails accessible through a single integration, the exchange aims to position USDC as a default internet payment method.

Additionally, platforms that onboard can add off-ramps to local currencies, audit trails via open-source contracts, and programmable reward systems in a forthcoming update.

Coinbase invited payment processors, marketplaces, and e-commerce software vendors to integrate immediately, noting that the same stack powering Shopify’s rollout is now available through the company’s developer portal.

U.S. Tariff Exemptions for Electronics Are ‘Temporary,’ Says Commerce Secretary https://earlybirdsinvest.com/u-s-tariff-exemptions-for-electronics-are-temporary-says-commerce-secretary/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/u-s-tariff-exemptions-for-electronics-are-temporary-says-commerce-secretary/#respond Sun, 13 Apr 2025 15:18:24 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/u-s-tariff-exemptions-for-electronics-are-temporary-says-commerce-secretary/

The Trump administration’s exemption on tariffs for electronics may be short-lived.

Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Sunday that the White House’s decision to exempt items like smartphones, computers, and other consumer electronics from steep tariffs earlier this month was only temporary.

A new set of duties focused on semiconductors is expected within “a month or two,” he said.

“All those products are going to come under semiconductors, and they’re going to have a special focus type of tariff to make sure that those products get reshored,” Lutnick said during an interview on ABC’s This Week.

The goal, he added, is to encourage chip and flat panel production in the U.S. and reduce dependence on Asian manufacturing. The clarification follows a bulletin from U.S. Customs and Border Protection released late Friday bringing a temporary exemption for a range of key electronics from the reciprocal tariffs President Donald Trump announced earlier this month.

However, Lutnick emphasized that those same items would soon be swept up under a more targeted policy aimed at “national security” industries like semiconductors and pharmaceuticals.

“We need to have chips, and we need to have flat panels — we need to have these things made in America,” Lutnick said.

The price of bitcoin dropped roughly 1% on headlines reporting on Lutnick’s words, before recovering back to the $84,000 mark. The wider crypto market, measured by the CoinDesk 20 (CD20) index, is down roughly 1.6% in the last 24-hour period.
