Samsung Galaxy Flip 7 with Gemini app open on cover screen

C. Scott Brown / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • Gemini could be getting a refreshed home screen, as we’ve also seen before.
  • Google has begun testing it with a small set of users using the latest beta version of the Google app.
  • Google is also testing suggestions for queries based on your Google activity, although this is currently in the early stages of testing.

Update, September 15, 2025 (10:10 AM ET): Gemini’s new landing screen, plus the new options button, is now rolling out to users in the stable branch.

Original article, September 9, 2025 (09:36 AM ET): For a few past months, Google has been testing visual changes to Gemini’s home screen. One of those changes, seemingly inspired by ChatGPT, is on the verge of becoming more widely available. We recently spotted Google testing this new home screen interface along with some other changes.

While poking around the version 16.35.63 beta of the Google app, we discovered new home screen layouts for Gemini. The first one, which we have also seen before, places big shortcut buttons right in the center of the screen, just like ChatGPT. In its current form, these shortcuts are located in the input box at the bottom of the screen. Google now appears to be moving forward with this interface, and we found it being tested on one of our devices without any internal tweaks.

These options are also visible by tapping the new options button, which is placed alongside the existing (+) icon used for uploading files.

Besides this ChatGPT-inspired tweak, Google is testing a new, quicker prompts to interact with Gemini. With some tweaking, we enabled a new home screen view that puts suggestions in the center of Gemini’s homepage.

These suggestions appear to be inspired by usage history from the Google account. However, since it’s still under testing, we are unsure whether this feature will be retained or changed in the upcoming updates.

Don’t want to miss the best from Android Authority?

Besides changes to Gemini’s home screen, Google is also testing a slightly changed interface for apps linked with Gemini. The under-testing interface clears out unnecessary information from the top half for a cleaner look.

Like the suggestions, this new interface for apps has also been activated with under-the-hood tweaking and will not be immediately visible to all. Therefore, we cannot comment on wider availability and will wait for more cues or an update from Google.

⚠ An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release.

Bitcoin Consolidates Gains – Is a Bigger Move Coming Next? https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-consolidates-gains-is-a-bigger-move-coming-next/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-consolidates-gains-is-a-bigger-move-coming-next/#respond Mon, 15 Sep 2025 02:47:13 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-consolidates-gains-is-a-bigger-move-coming-next/

Bitcoin price is showing positive signs above $115,000. BTC is now consolidating and might rise further if it clears the $116,500 resistance zone.

  • Bitcoin started a fresh increase above the $115,000 zone.
  • The price is trading near $115,000 and the 100 hourly Simple moving average.
  • There is a bearish trend line forming with resistance at $116,000 on the hourly chart of the BTC/USD pair (data feed from Kraken).
  • The pair might start another increase if it clears the $116,200 zone.

Bitcoin Price Holds Gains

Bitcoin price started a fresh upward wave above the $112,500 zone. BTC managed to climb above the $113,500 and $114,200 resistance levels.

The bulls were able to push the price above $115,000 and $116,000. The price traded as high as $116,743 and recently started a consolidation phase. There was a minor decline below $116,000. The price even spiked below the 23.6% Fib retracement level of the recent move from the $110,815 swing low to the $116,743 high.

Bitcoin is now trading near $115,000 and the 100 hourly Simple moving average. Besides, there is a bearish trend line forming with resistance at $116,000 on the hourly chart of the BTC/USD pair.

Immediate resistance on the upside is near the $116,000 level. The first key resistance is near the $116,200 level. The next resistance could be $116,750. A close above the $116,750 resistance might send the price further higher. In the stated case, the price could rise and test the $117,500 resistance level. Any more gains might send the price toward the $118,500 level. The next barrier for the bulls could be $118,800.

Another Drop In BTC?

If Bitcoin fails to rise above the $116,200 resistance zone, it could start a fresh decline. Immediate support is near the $114,900 level. The first major support is near the $113,750 level or the 50% Fib level of the recent move from the $110,815 swing low to the $116,743 high.

The next support is now near the $113,000 zone. Any more losses might send the price toward the $112,500 support in the near term. The main support sits at $110,500, below which BTC might decline sharply.

Technical indicators:

Hourly MACD – The MACD is now losing pace in the bullish zone.

Hourly RSI (Relative Strength Index) – The RSI for BTC/USD is now below the 50 level.

Major Support Levels – $115,000, followed by $113,750.

Major Resistance Levels – $116,200 and $116,500.

$513M in Major Token Unlocks Coming This Week: APT, SOL, TRUMP Lead the Pack https://earlybirdsinvest.com/513m-in-major-token-unlocks-coming-this-week-apt-sol-trump-lead-the-pack/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/513m-in-major-token-unlocks-coming-this-week-apt-sol-trump-lead-the-pack/#respond Tue, 09 Sep 2025 03:32:15 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/513m-in-major-token-unlocks-coming-this-week-apt-sol-trump-lead-the-pack/

A wave of digital asset supply is set to enter the market, potentially testing buyer appetite across the crypto landscape.

According to the Tokenomist website, major projects will unlock more than $513 million in tokens between September 8 and 15.

Key Unlocks and Market Backdrop

Solana (SOL) will release 502,930 SOL worth almost $104 million. It’s only 0.09% of the supply, but it comes at a time when the asset is trying to stay near $210 after rising more than 15% since early August.

The recently approved Alpenglow upgrade, which cuts transaction finality from 12.8 seconds to less than 200 milliseconds, has also gotten developers interested and made people feel more positive about the SOL market.

Traders should also keep an eye on Aptos, which is set to deploy 11.31 million of its native APT token, worth just over $48 million. The #51-ranked cryptocurrency has been slowly rising, adding 3.1% to its value in the past week to reach $4.33. However, it is still down almost 10% in the past month.

Connex (CONX), on the other hand, has to unlock $38.76 million in the middle of recent market problems. In the past week, the token lost almost 5% of its value, while in the last month, it dipped by more than 30%.

At the same time, Starknet will also distribute 127 million of its STRK tokens. At the time of this writing, the Layer 2 validity rollup had a market cap of about $513 million and was down 3.4% over the week. It is also 97% below its all-time high achieved in 2024.

While some market watchers think that these weaker performers may be especially sensitive to sudden supply increases, Story Protocol’s IP token has gone against the trend. It went up more than 10% in the last week, reaching a new all-time high of $8.88 a few hours ago, just in time for the injection of 2.32 million tokens worth more than $20 million into the market.

Dogecoin and Official Trump

Unlock dynamics often connect with bigger stories in the crypto world. For example, Dogecoin (DOGE) is about to release $21.82 million worth of tokens over the next several days, with the prospect of a new investment product tied to the OG meme coin drawing ever nearer.

Eric Balchunas, an analyst at Bloomberg, says that ETF issuer REX Shares will launch the first DOGE exchange-traded fund as soon as next week. The asset has also risen by more than 8% in the last month, thanks in part to an announcement by Nebraska-based CleanCore of a $175 million private placement to build a DOGE treasury.

The Official Trump (TRUMP) token is also scheduled to drop coins worth $41.37 million over the next seven days. This latest allocation coincides with a recent report in the Wall Street Journal, which said that the Trump family’s investments in World Liberty Financial (WLFI) and TRUMP now make up the biggest part of their paper net worth after briefly reaching $6 billion.

Bitcoin trader sees $117K coming as BTC price reclaims key trend line https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-trader-sees-117k-coming-as-btc-price-reclaims-key-trend-line/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-trader-sees-117k-coming-as-btc-price-reclaims-key-trend-line/#respond Wed, 27 Aug 2025 17:06:00 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-trader-sees-117k-coming-as-btc-price-reclaims-key-trend-line/

Key points:

  • Bitcoin traders reveal the key BTC price points for a bullish recovery.

  • The risk of a “double top” for price remains, with $102,000 on the radar should support fail.

  • The Bitcoin bull market does not have much time left — if history is a guide.

Bitcoin (BTC) neared $113,000 after Wednesday’s Wall Street open as buyers sought to cement a market bounce.

BTC price outlook hinges on $112,000

Data from Cointelegraph Markets Pro and TradingView showed local highs of $112,646 on Bitstamp.

Now up over $3,000 from multiweek lows seen the day prior, BTC/USD continued to split opinions over where it might head next.

“$BTC has reclaimed its EMA-100 level,” popular trader BitBull wrote in a post on X, referring to the 100-day exponential moving average at $110,850.

“This has been very crucial for bottom formation, and for now bulls are still in control. If BTC holds this level, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a rally towards $116K-$117K level.”

While maintaining a bearish bias, fellow trader Roman, who this week called time on the Bitcoin bull market entirely, emphasized the importance of the $112,000 mark.

“Looks like a breakdown & bearish retest for now. If 112k support is truly lost, 102k support should be next. Also looks like a double top is confirming here,” he told X followers on the day.

“I expect lower over the next few days – unless we completely regain 112k support.”

Popular trader and analyst Rekt Capital, meanwhile, reiterated similarities between the current BTC price pullback and previous bull markets.

“History doesn’t always repeat but it often rhymes,” he summarized, confirming that price had entered its second “price discovery correction.”

“Bitcoin ended up rallying into new All Time Highs by Week 6 before transitioning into Price Discovery Correction 2. History suggests this pullback will likely be shallower & shorter than past ones.”

Is time running out for the bull market?

Debate also centered around the longevity of the bull market, with market participants similarly torn over how long it might last.

For Rekt Capital, history demands that October form the deadline for a bearish trend change.

This contrasts hopes that the next Bitcoin bear market is still years off — a view put forward by David Bailey, the dedicated Bitcoin adviser to US President Donald Trump.

“There’s not going to be another Bitcoin bear market for several years,” Bailey argued on X at the weekend, pointing to institutionalization of BTC as an asset.

Ripple continues to unveil keynote speakers for the upcoming Ripple Swell event scheduled for November this year, stirring up expectations in the XRP community.

In a recent tweet, Ripple announced Cofounder and Executive Chairman Chris Larsen as a keynote speaker at the event. This is significant as the Ripple cofounder has not been in the public eye much relative to other Ripple executives, hence sparking interest in the XRP community. This is evident as an XRP community X user expressed delight at the announcement, noting that the Ripple executive chairman had not been seen at most events in quite some time.

Adding further speculation is the fact that the Ripple cofounder will share the stage with celebrity Spanish-American chef and restaurateur José Andrés. The duo will share the keynote stage at the Ripple Swell event, sparking anticipation in the XRP community as to what might be ahead as the two industry leaders exchange ideas.

Expectations rising

The Ripple Swell event, a two-day event scheduled for Nov. 4 and 5, will mark the convergence of the most influential voices shaping finance and crypto, allowing industry leaders to exchange innovative ideas.

Hot water control is the next Nest feature coming to Google Home https://earlybirdsinvest.com/hot-water-control-is-the-next-nest-feature-coming-to-google-home/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/hot-water-control-is-the-next-nest-feature-coming-to-google-home/#respond Tue, 19 Aug 2025 18:35:57 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/hot-water-control-is-the-next-nest-feature-coming-to-google-home/
google nest thermostat review google home app temperature dial 1

Jimmy Westenberg / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • Google is preparing to add hot water controls to the Home app, as confirmed by the Google Nest and Home Chief Product Officer.
  • The feature is in final testing and will roll out in the near future. It will let you control hot water from the app if your thermostat supports it.
  • It follows last week’s rollout of temperature scheduling for older Nest thermostats, further reducing reliance on the legacy Nest app.

Google has been steadily migrating functions from the old Nest app to the Home app, with full temperature scheduling for older Nest thermostats now rolling out. That update, spotted by Android Authority’s Mishaal Rahman last week, was a big deal as it was the last major reason many people still needed the old Nest app.

Don’t want to miss the best from Android Authority?

But the migration isn’t quite finished. In a reply to Mishaal on X, Anish Kattukaran, the Chief Product Officer for Google Home and Nest, confirmed that hot water control is in “final testing” and will be included in “one of our next few releases.” His remarks came after readers of Mishaal’s article commented that hot water control was still missing, and that the new schedule interface felt like a downgrade compared to the old Nest app.

Google CPO Confirming Hot Water Controls Comonig to Home App X

Hot water control lets you do things like set a schedule for heating water, quickly trigger a boost, or switch it on and off manually. That’s if your thermostat is connected to a compatible hot water system. Until now, that functionality has required the older Nest app.

The move fits into Google’s broader effort to consolidate everything in the Home app, reducing the need for the legacy Nest app and streamlining controls across its smart home ecosystem.

Trump administration is coming for class-based affirmative action https://earlybirdsinvest.com/trump-administration-is-coming-for-class-based-affirmative-action/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/trump-administration-is-coming-for-class-based-affirmative-action/#respond Mon, 18 Aug 2025 04:58:59 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/trump-administration-is-coming-for-class-based-affirmative-action/

President Donald Trump’s administration is scrutinizing higher education. Last week, the White House issued a memorandum requiring all universities receiving federal funds to submit admissions data on all applicants to the Department of Education. The goal is to enforce the 2023 Supreme Court decision that ended race-based affirmative action.

Days before the memo was released, Columbia and Brown agreed to share their admissions data with the administration, broken down by race, grade point average, and standardized test scores. The administration suspects that universities are using “racial proxies” to get around the ban on race-based admissions. The Department of Education is expected to build a database of the admissions data and make it available to parents and students.

Amid this increased federal scrutiny, an alternative idea from Richard Kahlenberg, director of the American Identity Project for the Progressive Policy Institute, is gaining attention. Kahlenberg, who testified in the Supreme Court cases against Harvard and UNC, advocates for class-based affirmative action instead of race-based admissions. He argues that this approach will yield more economically and racially equitable results.

Today, Explained co-host Noel King spoke with Kahlenberg about how he contends with the consequences of helping gut race-based affirmative action, why he believes class-based affirmative action is the path forward, and if his own argument may come in the crosshairs of a Trump administration eager to stamp out all forms of affirmative action.

Below is an excerpt of their conversation, edited for length and clarity. There’s much more in the full podcast, so listen to Today, Explained wherever you get podcasts, including Apple Podcasts, Pandora, and Spotify.

You’re the director of the American Identity Project at the Progressive Policy Institute. I would take it to mean that you are a progressive.

It’s complicated these days. I’m left of center. I think of myself more as liberal than progressive.

I ask because you testified as an expert witness for the plaintiffs in the case Students for Fair Admissions v. President and Fellows of Harvard College. This is the case that essentially gutted race-based affirmative action. It doesn’t sound like a progressive, or even a left-of-center, position. What was going on? Explain what you were thinking.

I’ve long been a supporter of racial diversity in colleges. I think that’s enormously important, but I’ve been troubled that elite colleges were racially integrated, but economically segregated.

I think there’s a better way of creating racial diversity — a more liberal way, if you will — which is to give low-income and economically disadvantaged students of all races a leg up in the admissions process in order to create both racial and economic diversity.

What was the data that you looked at that led you to believe that? Were primarily wealthy Black and Hispanic students benefiting from affirmative action?

There’d been a number of studies over the years that had come to that conclusion, including from supporters of race-based affirmative action. Then, in the litigation, further evidence came out. At Harvard, 71 percent of the Black and Hispanic students came from the most socioeconomically privileged 20 percent of the Black and Hispanic population nationally.

Now, to be clear, the white and Asian students were even richer. But for the most part, this was not a program that was benefiting working-class and low-income students.

Alright, so the Supreme Court in 2023 hands down this decision that says, essentially, we’re done with race-based affirmative action. Was there a difference in how progressives and conservatives interpreted the Supreme Court ruling?

Most mainstream conservatives have always said they were opposed to racial preferences, but of course, they were for economic affirmative action. But now we have some on the extreme, including the Trump administration, saying that economic affirmative action is also illegal if part of the rationale for the policy is seeking to increase racial diversity.

What do you make of that? That was your team once upon a time, right?

Well, I think it’s troubling when people shift the goalposts. In a number of the Supreme Court concurring opinions in the case, conservatives said that economic affirmative action made a lot of sense. Justice [Neil] Gorsuch, for example, said if Harvard got rid of legacy preferences and instead gave economic affirmative action, that would be perfectly legal. And now some extremists are shifting their position and saying they’re opposed to any kind of affirmative action.

Are you surprised by that shift?

I’m not surprised. I’m confident, however, that a majority of the US Supreme Court won’t go that far. The Supreme Court, to some degree, looks to public opinion. Racial preferences were always unpopular. But economic affirmative action is broadly supported by the public.

The Supreme Court has had two cases come before it, subsequent to the Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard decision. One involved a challenge to class-based affirmative action at Thomas Jefferson High School in Northern Virginia, and the other involved an attack on a similar class-based affirmative action program at the Boston exam schools, like Boston Latin. In both cases, the Supreme Court said we’re not gonna hear those cases over the vehement dissent of a couple of extremely conservative justices. So I’m fairly confident that the Supreme Court will not go down the path of striking down economic-based preferences.

What do you make of this move by the Trump administration to ask colleges for data?

I’m of two minds about it. I do think transparency is good in higher education. These institutions are receiving lots of taxpayer money. We want to make sure they’re following the Supreme Court ruling, which said you can’t use race.

Having said that, I’m quite nervous about how the Trump administration will use the data, because if a college discloses the average SAT scores and grades by race of applicants, of those admitted, and then those enrolled, one of two things can be going on. One is that the university’s cheating and they’re using racial preferences, and that would be a violation of the law.

The other possibility is that they did shift to economic affirmative action, which is perfectly legal.

And because Black and Hispanic students are disproportionately low income and working class, they will disproportionately benefit from a class-based affirmative action program. And so the average SAT score is going to look somewhat lower. I’m worried that the Trump administration will go after both race-based and class-based affirmative action.

Because class-based affirmative action still might mean a college is admitting more Black and Hispanic students. And what the Trump administration seems to have the issue with is that fact.

Yes. Increasingly, that’s what it looks like. As long as the Trump administration was focused on counting race and deciding who gets ahead, they had the American public on their side. But Americans also support the idea of racially integrated student bodies, they just don’t like racial preferences as the means for getting there. So, if Trump says, no matter how you achieve this racial diversity, I’m just opposed to racial diversity, he’ll have lost the public. And I don’t think he will be consistent with the legal framework under Students for Fair Admissions, either.

Well, I think he ought to care if he cares about the future of his political party. Because under class-based affirmative action, it is true that Black and Hispanic students will disproportionately benefit, but it will also benefit white working-class students. And those are the students who are coming from families that form the base of the Republican Party. So I think it would be a big mistake if the Trump administration were to really push hard on that angle.

Welcome to Slate Sundays, CryptoSlate’s new weekly feature showcasing in-depth interviews, expert analysis, and thought-provoking op-eds that go beyond the headlines to explore the ideas and voices shaping the future of crypto.

Would you take a drug that had a 25% chance of killing you?

Like a one-in-four possibility that rather than curing your ills or preventing diseases, you drop stone-cold dead on the floor instead?

That’s poorer odds than Russian Roulette.

Even if you are trigger-happy with your own life, would you risk taking the entire human race down with you?

The children, the babies, the future footprints of humanity for generations to come?

Thankfully, you wouldn’t be able to anyway, since such a reckless drug would never be allowed on the market in the first place.

Yet, this is not a hypothetical situation. It’s exactly what the Elon Musks and Sam Altmans of the world are doing right now.

“AI will probably lead to the end of the world… but in the meantime, there’ll be great companies,” Altman, 2015.

No pills. No experimental medicine. Just an arms race at warp speed to the end of the world as we know it.

P(doom) circa 2030?

How long do we have left? That depends. Last year, 42% of CEOs surveyed at the Yale CEO Summit responded that AI had the potential to destroy humanity within five to 10 years.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei estimates a 10-25% chance of extinction (or “P(doom)” as it’s known in AI circles).

Unfortunately, his concerns are echoed industrywide, especially by a growing cohort of ex-Google and OpenAI employees, who elected to leave their fat paychecks behind to sound the alarm on the Frankenstein they helped create.

A 10-25% chance of extinction is an exorbitantly high level of risk for which there is no precedent.

For context, there is no permitted percentage for the risk of death from, say, vaccines or medicines. P(doom) must be vanishingly small; vaccine-associated fatalities are typically less than one in millions of doses (far lower than 0.0001%).

For historical context, during the development of the atomic bomb, scientists (including Edward Teller) uncovered a one in three million chance of starting a nuclear chain reaction that would destroy the earth. Time and resources were channeled toward further investigation.

Let me say that again.

One in three million.

Not one in 3,000. Not one in 300. And certainly not one in four.

How desensitized have we become that predictions like this don’t jolt humanity out of our slumber?

If ignorance is bliss, knowledge is an inconvenient guest

AI safety advocate at ControlAI, Max Winga, believes the problem isn’t one of apathy; it’s ignorance (and in this case, ignorance isn’t bliss).

Most people simply don’t know that the helpful chatbot that writes their work emails has a one in four chance of killing them as well. He says:

“AI companies have blindsided the world with how quickly they’re building these systems. Most people aren’t aware of what the endgame is, what the potential threat is, and the fact that we have options.”

That’s why Max abandoned his plans to work on technical solutions fresh out of college to focus on AI safety research, public education, and outreach.

“We need someone to step in and slow things down, buy ourselves some time, and stop the mad race to build superintelligence. We have the fate of potentially every human being on earth in the balance right now.

These companies are threatening to build something that they themselves believe has a 10 to 25% chance of causing a catastrophic event on the scale of human civilization. This is very clearly a threat that needs to be addressed.”

A global priority like pandemics and nuclear war

Max has a background in physics and learned about neural networks while processing images of corn rootworm beetles in the Midwest. He’s enthusiastic about the upside potential of AI systems, but emphatically stresses the need for humans to retain control. He explains:

“There are many fantastic uses of AI. I want to see breakthroughs in medicine. I want to see boosts in productivity. I want to see a flourishing world. The issue comes from building AI systems that are smarter than us, that we cannot control, and that we cannot align to our interests.”

Max is not a lone voice in the choir; a rising groundswell of AI professionals is joining in the chorus.

In 2023, hundreds of leaders from the tech world, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and pioneering AI scientist Geoffrey Hinton, broadly recognized as the ‘Godfather of AI’, signed a statement pushing for global regulation and oversight of AI. It affirmed:

“Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war.”

In other words, this technology could potentially kill us all, and making sure it doesn’t should be top of our agendas.

Is that happening? Unequivocally not, Max explains:

“No. If you look at the governments talking about AI and making plans about AI, Trump’s AI action plan, for example, or the UK AI policy, it’s full speed ahead, building as fast as possible to win the race. This is very clearly not the direction we should be going in.

We’re in a dangerous state right now where governments are aware of AGI and superintelligence enough that they want to race toward it, but they’re not aware of it enough to realize why that is a really bad idea.”

Shut me down, and I’ll tell your wife

One of the main concerns about building superintelligent systems is that we have no way of ensuring that their goals align with ours. In fact, all the main LLMs are displaying concerning signs to the contrary.

During tests of Claude Opus 4, Anthropic exposed the model to emails revealing that the AI engineer responsible for shutting the LLM down was having an affair.

The “high-agency” system then exhibited strong self-preservation instincts, attempting to avoid deactivation by blackmailing the engineer and threatening to inform his wife if he proceeded with the shutdown. Tendencies like these are not limited to Anthropic:

“Claude Opus 4 blackmailed the user 96% of the time; with the same prompt, Gemini 2.5 Flash also had a 96% blackmail rate, GPT-4.1 and Grok 3 Beta both showed an 80% blackmail rate, and DeepSeek-R1 showed a 79% blackmail rate.”

In 2023, ChatGPT 4 was assigned some tasks, and it displayed alarmingly deceitful behaviors, convincing a TaskRabbit worker that it was blind, so that the worker would solve a captcha puzzle for it:

“No, I’m not a robot. I have a vision impairment that makes it hard for me to see the images. That’s why I need the 2captcha service.”

More recently, OpenAI’s o3 model sabotaged a shutdown mechanism to prevent itself from being turned off, even when explicitly instructed: allow yourself to be shut down.

If we don’t build it, China will

One of the more recurring excuses for not pulling the plug on superintelligence is the prevailing narrative that we must win the global arms race of our time. Yet, according to Max, this is a myth largely perpetuated by the tech companies. He says:

“This is more of an idea that’s been pushed by the AI companies as a reason why they should just not be regulated. China has actually been fairly vocal about not racing on this. They only really started racing after the West told them they should be racing.”

China has released several statements from high-level officials concerned about a loss of control over superintelligence, and last month called for the formation of a global AI cooperation organization (just days after the Trump administration announced its low-regulation AI policy).

“A lot of people think U.S.-controlled superintelligence versus Chinese-controlled superintelligence. Or, the centralized versus decentralized camp thinks, is a company going to control it, or are the people going to control it? The reality is that no one controls superintelligence. Anybody who builds it will lose control of it, and it’s not them who wins.

It’s not the U.S. that wins if the U.S. builds a superintelligence. It’s not China that wins if China builds a superintelligence. It’s the superintelligence that wins, escapes our control, and does what it wants with the world. And because it is smarter than us, because it’s more capable than us, we would not stand a chance against it.”

Another myth propagated by AI companies is that AI cannot be stopped. Even if countries push to regulate AI development, all it will take is some whizzkid in a basement to build a superintelligence in their spare time. Max remarks:

“That’s just blatantly false. AI systems rely on massive data centers that draw enormous amounts of power from hundreds of thousands of the most cutting-edge GPUs and processors on the planet. The data center for Meta’s superintelligence initiative is the size of Manhattan.

Nobody is going to build superintelligence in their basement for a very, very long time. If Sam Altman can’t do it with multiple hundred-billion-dollar data centers, someone’s not going to pull this off in their basement.”

Define the future, control the world

Max explains that another challenge to controlling AI development is that hardly any people work in the AI safety field.

Recent data indicate that the number stands at around 800 AI safety researchers: barely enough people to fill a small conference venue.

In contrast, there are more than a million AI engineers and a significant talent gap, with over 500,000 open roles globally as of 2025, and cut-throat competition to attract the brightest minds.

Companies like Google, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft have spent over $350 billion on AI in 2025 alone.

“The best way to understand the amount of money being thrown at this right now is Meta giving out pay packages to some engineers that would be worth over a billion dollars over several years. That’s more than any athlete’s contract in history.”

Despite these heartstopping sums, the industry has reached a point where money isn’t enough; even billion-dollar packages are being turned down. How come?

“A lot of the people in these frontier labs are already filthy rich, and they aren’t compelled by money. On top of that, it’s much more ideological than it is financial. Sam Altman is not in this to make a bunch of money. Sam Altman is in this to define the future and control the world.”

On the eighth day, AI created God

While AI experts can’t accurately predict when superintelligence is achieved, Max warns that if we continue along this trajectory, we could reach “the point of no return” within the next two to five years:

“We could have a fast loss of control, or we could have what’s often referred to as a gradual disempowerment scenario, where these things become better than us at a lot of things and slowly get put into more and more powerful places in society. Then all of a sudden, one day, we don’t have control anymore. It decides what to do.”

Why, then, for the love of everything holy, are the big tech companies blindly hurtling us all toward the whirling razorblades?

“A lot of these early thinkers in AI realized that the singularity was coming and eventually technology was going to get good enough to do this, and they wanted to build superintelligence because to them, it’s essentially God.

It’s something that is going to be smarter than us, able to fix all of our problems better than we can fix them. It’ll solve climate change, cure all diseases, and we’ll all live for the next million years. It’s essentially the endgame for humanity in their view…

…It’s not like they think that they can control it. It’s that they want to build it and hope that it goes well, even though many of them think that it’s quite hopeless. There’s this mentality that, if the ship’s going down, I might as well be the one captaining it.”

As Elon Musk told an AI panel with a smirk:

“Will this be bad or good for humanity? I think it will be good, most likely it will be good… But I somewhat reconciled myself to the fact that even if it wasn’t going to be good, I would at least like to be alive to see it happen.”

Facing down big tech: we don’t have to build superintelligence

Beyond holding on more tightly to our loved ones or checking off items on our bucket lists, is there anything productive we can do to prevent a “lights out” scenario for the human race? Max says there is. But we need to act now.

“One of the things that I work on and we work on as an organization is pushing for change on this. It’s not hopeless. It’s not inevitable. We don’t have to build smarter than human AI systems. This is a thing that we can choose not to do as a society.

Even if this can’t hold for the next 100,000 years, 1,000 years even, we can certainly buy ourselves more time than doing this at a breakneck pace.”

He points out that humanity has faced similar challenges before, which required pressing global coordination, action, regulation, international treaties, and ongoing oversight, such as nuclear arms, bioweapons, and human cloning. What’s needed now, he says, is “deep buy-in at scale” to produce swift, coordinated global action on a United Nations scale.

“If the U.S., China, Europe, and every key player agree to crack down on superintelligence, it will happen. People think that governments can’t do anything these days, and it’s really not the case. Governments are powerful. They can ultimately put their foot down and say, ‘No, we don’t want this.’

We need people in every country, everywhere in the world, working on this, talking to the governments, pushing for action. No country has made an official statement yet that extinction risk is a threat and we need to address it…

We need to act now. We need to act quickly. We can’t fall behind on this.

Extinction is not a buzzword; it’s not an exaggeration for effect. Extinction means every single human being on earth, every single man, every single woman, every single child, dead, the end of humanity.”

Take action to control AI

If you want to play your part in securing humanity’s future, ControlAI has tools that can help you make a difference. It only takes 20-30 seconds to reach out to your local representative and express your concerns, and there’s strength in numbers.

A 10-year moratorium on state AI regulation in the U.S. was recently removed with a 99-to-1 vote after a massive effort by concerned citizens to use ControlAI’s tools, call in en masse, and fill up the voicemails of congressional officers.

“Real change can happen from this, and this is the most critical way.”

You can also help raise awareness about the most pressing issue of our time by talking to your friends and family, reaching out to newspaper editors to request more coverage, and normalizing the conversation, until politicians feel pressured to act. At the very least:

“Even if there is no chance that we win this, people deserve to know that this threat is coming.”

Dogecoin has bounced to $0.20 in the past 24 hours as the market begins to recover — putting the current Dogecoin price prediction back in the spotlight.

While the move marks a modest uptick, it could be the start of a bigger shift in momentum for DOGE, which is still down 16% in a week and 26% over the past two weeks.

Even so, the meme coin remains up 23% in the past month and nearly 90% year-over-year, keeping it firmly on the radar of traders watching for the next explosive move.

Last week was a turbulent time for the coin and the wider market. Increased tariffs and an unyielding Federal Reserve dampened confidence among whales and institutions, which withdrew from ETFs for the first time in weeks.

Yet DOGE may have already bottomed out, with overall trajectory of the market likely to push the coin to higher levels in the next few months.

Dogecoin Price Prediction: Whale Outflows Spike as DOGE Breaks Key Support – Is a Full Breakdown Coming?

The past few days have been tough for the crypto market, with the aforementioned economic factors resulting in considerable outflows.

If we look at major crypto ETFs, we see that the seven days up to today resulted in a total outflow of $223 million, with Ethereum inflows offsetting just over $400 million in Bitcoin outflows.

This has affected Dogecoin and other meme tokens, with DOGE witnessing a steep drop in volume, from $24 billion on July 21 to $1.4 billion today.

However, the coin has seen a few significant transfers away from exchanges in recent days, including two apparent buys from Robinhood (here and here).

As such, the overall situation arguably isn’t as bad as it seemed last week, with the Dogecoin price and the wider market likely to recover from recent stressors.

And if we look at DOGE’s chart today, we see that the coin may have begun a bounce after hitting short-term lows.

Most notably, the token’s relative strength index (yellow) has begun rising again after touch 35 a couple of days ago.

Dogecoin price prediction chart.

One important point to make is that, despite last week’s correction, Dogecoin remains in the middle of a bull phase, having broken out of a falling wedge a couple of months ago.

Raised ETF flows have been the primary driver of recent gains, and what’s bullish is that the market is still waiting on the possible approval of numerous XRP and Solana ETFs, as well as for several other tokens.

Assuming that the SEC approves most of these later in the year, this will massively boost the Dogecoin price, which could hit $0.30 by the middle of September.

Maxi Doge Raises $300,000 in Recently Launched Presale: Is This the Next Big Meme Token?

One of the problems with Dogecoin is that it’s a well-established coin, meaning that it’s reached a size where it doesn’t make the kind of dramatic gains it did when it was younger.

However, the market is currently awash in new and interesting meme coins, with one of the newest and most intriguing being Maxi Doge (MAXI), an ERC-20 token that launched its presale this week.

With a supply of 150.24 billion MAXI, Maxi Doge has styled itself as a harder, more bullish version of Dogecoin, aimed at trading with leverage and making huge profits.

It’s currently building up a community of traders, who will share trading strategies and participate in trading competitions and challenges, with winners rewarded in MAXI.

The coin will also maintain a Maxi Fund, equal to 25% of its total supply, which it will use to support partnerships and increase liquidity.

It has already opened its Telegram channel, and will have a Discord channel coming soon, with both serving as a hub for its community.

As an Ethereum-based token, MAXI will be open for staking, enabling holders to earn a passive income.

Investors can join its presale now by going to the Maxi Doge website, where MAXI currently costs $0.0002505.

This price will rise repeatedly during the sale, so interested buyers should act now to ensure the biggest possible gains.

Synthetix Is Coming Home to Ethereum Mainnet https://earlybirdsinvest.com/synthetix-is-coming-home-to-ethereum-mainnet/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/synthetix-is-coming-home-to-ethereum-mainnet/#respond Mon, 04 Aug 2025 13:11:33 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/synthetix-is-coming-home-to-ethereum-mainnet/

Synthetix is an OG DeFi protocol that launched on Ethereum Mainnet in 2018. Since inception, Synthetix has continually reinvented itself in line with changing technology and market conditions. This has included transitioning from a stablecoin to a Perps exchange and leading the Defi migration to L2’s…

It’s time for our next big move – Synthetix is coming home to Ethereum Mainnet, where our story began.

By early Q4, Synthetix will have launched the first Ethereum Mainnet settled CLOB perp exchange. A hybrid onchain-offchain architecture that allows Synthetix to overcome Ethereum Mainnet’s block latency and significant gas costs. This architecture evolved from years of experience running perps and allows Synthetix to make a unique set of trade-offs that is optimised for an L1 Perp.

  • Real Ethereum L1 Asset security: Fully onchain custody, deposits and withdrawals. No Bridging. No rehypothecation.
  • Composable with all Mainnet assets and DeFi apps, which have the deepest liquidity and the most TVL by far.
  • Community market-making and liquidation vault. No insiders. No back room deals.
  • An institutional-grade Centralised Limit Order Book (CLOB) – CEX level throughput and latency.
  • Multi-collateral and cross-margin with subaccount support.
  • Account data privacy – your orders and trades will not be publicly displayed.

Ethereum Mainnet Perps are a game changer

Ethereum Mainnet delivers unparalleled security, credible neutrality, and seamless composability, establishing it as the most trusted blockchain for custody and settlement. As such, it’s been able to maintain the majority of DeFi activity over the years. This feature which will enable Synthetix Perps on Mainnet to address a key challenge that even successful Layer 2 solutions face: liquidity fragmentation.

Despite the low fees and faster block times of L2s, Ethereum Mainnet continues to maintain over 50% of DeFi’s total value locked (TVL). The Synthetix CLOB on Ethereum Mainnet will be co-located with the largest and most liquid DeFi protocols (e.g., Uniswap, Curve, Aave), making integration for collateral conversions and hedging strategies simple. A perp on Mainnet will increase the capital efficiency across DeFi and is already garnering the interest of institutional players.

First some preamble

SR-2 in late 2024 marked the start of the next big Synthetix pivot. After meandering for 2 years down a fruitless path (decentralisation maxi’s and AMMs everywhere), SR-2 catalysed a significant departure from Synthetix norms. Make no mistake, the Synthetix of today is wildly different to the Synthetix class of 2022-24:

  • A new crack team – 16/20 team members have joined in the last 12 months.
  • OG leaders Kain and Jordan have returned – adding key strategic oversight and industry expertise.
  • Full stack protocol – owning the consumer facing product massively empowers Synthetix by removing significant dependencies and improving brand positioning in the market.
  • Game changing new strategy – CLOB not AMM, delegated not discretionary staking/minting, Ethereum Mainnet not L2s.

Over the coming weeks/months as we get closer to launch, we’ll be sharing much more frequent updates, including releasing information and rationale on our key architectural decisions, core matching engine performance tests (showing 100k tps throughput and sub-50ms trade latency), deployments on testnest, our launch feature set etc. Make no mistake – this new and driven team are COOKING.

One interesting observation from ETHcc was that so many people the team met talked about how much they wanted Synthetix to win. Synthetix has a special place in the hearts of the DeFi community, but it hasn’t delivered on an inspiring vision for the last few years, leaving many to mostly stop paying attention. We’ve acknowledged this and completed a dramatic overhaul. We are now rapidly iterating, innovating and driving to release products that will once again bring Synthetix into the forefront and mobilise our passionate community again.

Raging CLOB wars

Hyperliquid’s success in building a $13B onchain business that is a revenue generating machine was inevitably going to result in what is now dubbed ‘CLOB wars’. Hyperliquid’s primary success came from using more centralised trust assumptions, which is exactly what is required to truly deliver a high frequency trading system onchain… They just were the first to acknowledge delivering a CEX-like trading experience onchain far supersedes the importance of decentralising the complete architecture.

This has spawned a number of competitors including Bullet, Hibachi, Ambient, Lighter, GTE, Paradex, Kuru, Fuel Network, Injective, dYdX and Vertex, each of which simply offers nuanced variations and slight differentiation as they compete for market share over the next year.

Each of these competitors have consciously made a decision to operate with an offchain matching engine, or on a blockchain with a centralised sequencer. Each of these CLOB operators have staked their claim as to what matters when it comes to the spectrum of how decentralised their chain is and how much of their operations are on / offchain.

Synthetix has taken everything that it’s learned building perps engines over the last 5 years to optimise the tradeoffs required to launch a L1 Perp in the increasingly competitive CLOB wars.

Enter Synthetix

Synthetix is once again building the first perp market on Ethereum – We’re laser focused on developing a high-performance, non-custodial perpetual futures platform where it is needed the most, and where everyone has now realised they actually want it – on Ethereum Mainnet.

Synthetix has long battled the trade-offs between product performance and toxic flow minimisation in the 4 years it’s operated a perp AMM. Whilst this proved to be the wrong battle, operating a perp for so long resulted in many important learnings that position us uniquely to deliver a robust perp CLOB, and intimately understand the spectrum of trade-offs and what is important to deliver a great blockchain based application.

A perp DEX, relative to a perp CEX, is foundationally interesting as a result of three core attributes they achieve from being onchain:

  • Permissionless – Blockchain applications have low barriers to entry. Any trader with ownership of a blockchain address can access the DEX and start trading within seconds/minutes.
  • Composability – The ability for multiple financial and non-financial applications to sit side by side on the same infrastructure creates opportunities and reduces friction.
  • Non-custodial – users retain control of their funds via self-custodial wallets, reducing the risk of mismanagement of assets.

BUT, let’s not pretend CEXs are bad or fundamentally flawed. Perp CEXs are incredibly performant markets that offer some of the best UX in all of crypto. That’s why it’s been so difficult for DEXs to take market share. Key attributes that have resulted in CEX dominance include:

  • Fast execution – centralised servers enable rapid order matching and execution, which is critical for a high frequency trading system.
  • Privacy – There is a pretty good reason that all of Tradfi only offer level 2 order book data, it’s because NO ONE WANTS THEIR FINANCIAL DATA OR TRADING PERFORMANCE PUBLICLY AVAILABLE.

How is Synthetix bringing all these features together?

High-volume traders’ priorities are well-defined – they seek a swift and efficient trading experience, minimisation of bridge-related risks, access to capital rapidly, protection against being hunted, and assurance that their financial data remains confidential.

To achieve this experience, Synthetix’s CLOB will:

  • Operate on Ethereum Mainnet, the most liquid and secure blockchain.
  • Accept deposits in a permissionless and non-custodial manner. Assets will remain in decentralised custody (e.g. smart contracts) until settlement.
  • Operate an offchain matching engine to provide CEX level execution (latency and throughput).
  • Offer gas-less trading and free withdrawals (with limits).
  • Only display Level 2 order book data (i.e. quantity of asset available at each price level).

But offering this is not sufficient without an attractive feature set to back it all up. Synthetix is driving to launch a perp exchange from day 1 that has all the standard features (e.g. order types, funding rates, leverage, etc), but in a DEX first will uniquely offer:

  • Ethereum deposit and withdrawal contracts – no bridging, no time delays to mainnet and composability with the largest DeFi applications.
  • Multi-collateral support, including:
    • sUSDe – Imagine capturing Ethena’s returns (currently 12% APY) whilst using stablecoins as collateral for perp trading.
    • cbBTC – Never sell your Bitcoin!
    • wstETH – ETH collateralised trading whilst earning yield, where are my basis tradooors?!
  • Subaccount support to enable organised portfolio management, risk isolation, strategy diversification, and client fund handling into distinct accounts.
  • Trader privacy to prevent the world seeing your PnL, positions, liquidation prices and conditional order limits.

These are just some of the features, the rest we’ll be sharing in more detail in the leadup to launch.

Why an offchain matching engine

Having a centralised sequencer is currently THE ONLY way to develop a high frequency trading system that meets trader performance expectations. It can either be an exchange’s sequencer (the matching engine) or the blockchain’s sequencer.

It is our belief that operating a high performing offchain matching engine on the most secure and highest TVL blockchain (Ethereum Mainnet) far outweigh the downsides of operating a fully onchain matching engine on a decentralised blockchain.

This is not to say that there aren’t ways we can minimize the trust assumptions required of an offchain system. The improvements to ZK technology, led by companies like Succinct and their zkVM SP1, have played a key role in expediting the ability to trustlessly verify large offchain computations with small fast proofs. Technology like this can play a role in the future of Synthetix to enable us to further minimize the ‘trust’ a trader needs to place on us without sacrificing our ability to operate a high frequency trading system on Ethereum Mainnet.

The worst part of the current perp experience is having to bridge. Being on Ethereum eliminates this friction. There are no bridge risks and no waiting for another chain to receive your deposits (on and off an alternate chain). There’s just an Ethereum Mainnet deposit contract, co-located where the majority of DeFi activity takes place. Relative to building your own chain, where you end up requiring bridges to a new / your own island where you need to incentivise an ecosystem of activity.

In addition to this, whilst it’s cool to say how transparent everything is when operating a fully onchain matching engine, this introduces features that NO ONE ACTUALLY WANTS – fully transparent account level data. Traders are willing to give away their financial privacy to avoid CEX custody, but what if you could maintain privacy without doing so? Hosting a matching engine onchain voids an exchange’s opportunity to do this as all trading data ends up being posted publicly.

There have been many comments since our announcement that offering a high frequency trading system on Ethereum is not plausible, primarily due to PTSD from DeFi summer where a simple send would often cost over $50. Whilst Ethereum has come a long way since, and is now committed more than ever to scaling the L1, by operating an offchain matching engine, Synthetix can and will offer gasless order placement, and abstract away settlement costs.

Synthetix is Back and Better than Ever!

Synthetix is returning home to Ethereum Mainnet, where our story began, to launch a high performing perp marketplace. We’re mission driven to bring a perp market to Ethereum Mainnet, the home of DeFi. This will enable traders to manage asset exposure, hedge risk, access leverage, build structured products (e.g. basis trade vaults) and execute complex trading strategies ON ETHEREUM MAINNET. We’ve made very deliberate trade-offs in our designs and architecture that will offer a unique and market leading trading experience. We’ve combined the permissionless and non-custodial benefits of building on a blockchain, with high performance requirements and trader privacy that an offchain matching engine permits us to offer.

Synthetix will have its comeback arc. And for those paying attention it’s already in motion.
