US market regulators jointly revealed that registration exchanges are not prohibited from promoting and promoting the transaction of certain spot encryption products. A joint statement between the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) on September 2, 2025 stated that registration exchanges, including the National Stock Exchange (NSES), Designated Contract Markets (DCMS), and the Foreign Trade Commission (FBOT), are not prohibited from trading Crypto’s “specific spot product products.”

“Market participants are required to freely choose where to trade spot crypto assets,” said SEC Chairman Paul Atkins. “The SEC is working with the CFTC to ensure that our regulatory framework supports innovation and competition in these rapidly evolving markets.”

Clarification removes some perceived legal barriers of the largest US trading venues to list spot crypto markets? yes. They may also unlock direct participation from major brokerages that pipe orders into these exchanges. However, even more importantly, it illustrates a policy shift to oversee digital asset market activity under coordinated SEC-CFTC surveillance.

    Legendary producer reveals untold Beastie Boys collaboration stories https://earlybirdsinvest.com/legendary-producer-reveals-untold-beastie-boys-collaboration-stories/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/legendary-producer-reveals-untold-beastie-boys-collaboration-stories/#respond Thu, 10 Jul 2025 23:58:59 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/legendary-producer-reveals-untold-beastie-boys-collaboration-stories/

We all have doodles, little bits of forgotten art in the margins of our lives. In the case of Mario Caldato Jr., these were remixes and B-sides that were recorded between larger tracks that he produced for the Beastie Boys.

It can be easy to over-fetishize the Beastie Boys. You can find yourself walking a line between toxic nostalgia and true delight.

Alack, with all this walking we missed some vital parts of the line. I mean, it was never advertised that Adam Yauch played bass on a Björk track. Nobody talks about the time Mike D played drums for Ween. It’s just never been brought up.

“That’s true,” says Mario Caldato Jr., the resident producer for the Beasties’ stretch in LA, “but there’s only a handful of these songs.”  He sits across from us on a shady patio in Highland Park, somewhat skeptical. “I don’t really know what we’re gonna talk about.”

He’s got a point. There’s a lot out there. But the scant byproducts of these artists are still better than some of the music being made today, and therefore deserve a closer look. It’s my kind of cultural baloney.

1995, in particular, was a potent time for these cuts. Flourishes were added to the work of Björk, Ween, The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Beck and a random DJ from the streets of Japan. Most of this work came from the ABA All-Stars, a pen name for the random Beastie Boys who were available, with Mario C in the booth.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of this era in Grand Royal history, we sat down with the maestro to dish on these side songs.

    __________________

How did the G-Son Studios remixes come about?

Mario Caldato Jr.: We had our recording spot in Atwater Village, and we worked on Beastie Boys records and some other projects. Occasionally someone would send us a song and want a remix.

By this period, it seems like you guys had a healthy sense of workflow.

MC: We did three years in the studio to make Check Your Head. That’s a long time. That’s a lot of hanging and getting to know each other, then we went out on the road and had a bunch of ideas and came back and did Ill Communication, and we knocked that one out in six months. And that’s when these remixes all started happening, once we had everything dialed in. They would be in between records or somebody would be putting out a single.

The track listings usually credit the ABA All-Stars. Who was in the lineup?

MC: Sometimes Mark, sometimes Yauch, sometimes The Kid, sometimes all of us. It depended on which one we were doing. It was very in the moment.

What were the steps for these?

MC: Every remix was kind of different. First, we would check the vibe. We would pull it up and hear the track first, see what’s inspiring and then determine if there was some element that we wanted to add onto it.

If it was beat driven, sometimes we would program a beat, or try to sample a whole idea. Or play a beat. That was the main option. Then we would add bass or keyboard or some other groove element. And then we would add some kind of scratching, or some other flavor. Rarely did we ever add any vocals.

When it came to the block itself in Atwater, did you guys have a particular food spot?

MC: Peaches had a little taco stand. We mostly went to Nonni’s, right across the street. It was this Italian restaurant, the pesto pizza was bangin’. It’s not there no more.

    How long was the process?

MC: Usually one day. Then maybe we’d come back the next day and do some kind of tweak, adjust a couple things. Nobody shot down ideas. We encouraged and the stronger ideas got through, and the weaker ones got put aside, no hard feelings. Pretty democratic and chill.

Can we talk about some of these songs?

    Björk: “Army of Me

MC: We toured Europe with her before this. That’s a beat that got programmed, it’s a combination of samples and playing.

So is that MCA in the first loop?

MC: Oh yeah, that’s Yauch playing the upright bass.

That’s amazing. There’s not much out there since he passed away.

MC: He was a good soul. He could really bring out the best in us.

    Anything else you hear?

MC: There’s a lot of echoplex for the vocals that I mixed in from the board. This was all random, very on the fly; we could never reproduce that (laughs). Y’know, nobody could say, “can I have the vocals louder?” Once we sent it out, it was done.

    Ween: “Freedom of ’76”

There’s all this vocal stuff at the beginning.

MC: They had a little speech, but I added some radio noise to it. That was Spike’s idea.

Spike Jonze? He was at the remix session?

MC: Yeah.  He asked me “Can you make this part sound old?”

Damn man. Directing the video and showing up for the remix.

MC: We actually did that at my house. That’s Mike playing drums in my living room.

Did he play with a click track?

MC: No, it’s all feel. And then that’s Money Mark playing the vibraphone. We didn’t change much else, I mean, the vocals are so good  (Listens more.) I really like this song, I’m glad you guys like it.

Jon Spencer Blues Explosion Experimental Remixes: “Flavor Pt. 2”

MC: That’s Mark playing clavinet, probably Mike on drums. Definitely Beck on vocals.

That little descending warble there at .51?

MC: That’s an echo or a record of some old synthesizers. That “What Goes Up” bit is a Biz Markie sample, that was probably Ad-rock. We loved Biz and his records were always nearby.

Who is saying “Beck and Mike D, white boys in the house”?

MC: That was Russell Simins, the drummer for JSBX. He’d always come around the studio. Russell was a trip. That was just a wild jam. But the vocal sample you hear on Flavor Pt. 1 is the other Russell Simmons, the actual producer.

    Beastie Boys: “Root Down EP”

There’s this hidden track at the end of the Root Down EP, which is Japanese?

MC: Ohhhhh, that’s an ad for some Japanese shows, I think. That’s this guy MC Boo, we hooked up with him over there out of nowhere. We ended up bringing him out on stage.

    Money Mark: “Mark’s Keyboard Repair”

You took that gatefold inner photo, right?

MC: Ha, yeah. Mark needed a photo so I jumped out and did it. That’s his van,  Mark always has a van. I produced “Pinto’s New Car” on that.

I used to drive home from my girl’s place with that playing and all the windows down. Thank you.

    Beck: “Minus” and “000.000”

MC: That’s actually not an ABA production. Beck showed up at G-Son with Joey Waronker, his drummer. So we did a couple sessions, like two or three days when we weren’t working with the Beastie Boys.

Did you have any idea, sitting there in the booth, that you were part of some classic record?

MC: No. By that point, Beck figured, “Let’s do this live thing first.” He did like it. But it was kind of wacky, all over the place. Then he went and started working with the Dust Brothers, they had a refined sound, all these loops and things. It was more structured, and that became 95% of Odelay, except for Minus. There was no punky element, so he figured they’d go back and toss that in. I mean, it’s cool, I’m glad they ended up using it.

That random session is history now.

MC: As my daughter says, it’s her favorite record. It’s special.

So the other songs were used as B-sides?

Yeah. There were some weird songs, I don’t know if you heard 000.000, it’s on the Odelay Deluxe Edition. For that one I took the tape and said, “Yeah, it sounds alright. Hold on a second,” and I flipped the reel backwards. It went zoot zoot zoot zoot and then I slowed it down and put it through the plate reverb. He was like, “Daaaaaaamn.” You know, it’s kinda creepy.

    Any final tech notes?

MC: For those sessions, Beck used the Sony Variety Karaoke Mic (ECM-V1), which is what we used for “So Whatcha Want”. If you just cup it like this (mimicking hand over mic), then it sounds distorted. That was our number one weapon, and people who used our studio wanted that broken mic sound. And that was on Odelay all over the place and Beck handled it so well.

I got that mic for all three of the Beastie Boys for Christmas, but the original one, that’s mine.

Speaking of cheap sounds: while prepping for this interview, I didn’t know how to best remind Mario of these songs, so I grabbed the Bluetooth speaker from my shower on my way out the door. When we sat down I was a bit ashamed to hand him such chintzy gear.

But as each track played, he held the speaker closer and closer to his ear, like an old telephone. His face would light up. And by the end of our lunch, it turned out that he had plenty to talk about.

I still have so many questions. I want to ask about Bobo. Or dig into their drugs of choice. I want to know why we can’t just have Beck shemp for MCA so we can get more Beastie tours and albums. It wouldn’t be any crazier than Ronnie Wood joining the Stones.

But those are Mario ’95 questions, and Mario ’25 is a family man now. And this guy has already been nice to me about my stupid shower speaker.

So we just shake hands as I thank him for the songs. “Hey, it was a chance to put our stamp on someone else’s vision,” he sighs, “And that brought us all together.”

Popular NFT collection Doodles have teased a collaboration with the Twix chocolate bar, with the confectionary brand shown to be following Doodles on TikTok.

Shared to X on July 7, many in the community expressed their excitement and desire to learn further information – though Doodles have kept quiet on the matter since sharing the post.

Should a collaboration announcement be imminent, Twix would become the latest of many household names that have worked with the Doodles brand – including the likes of Adidas, Crocs, McDonalds and many more.

    What is Doodles?

Doodles is a 10,000-piece NFT collection that debuted on Ethereum in October 2021.

Releasing towards the height of the NFT boom, Doodles has become one of the most notorious NFT collections in the world. In June 2022, Pharrell Williams became their Chief Brand Officer, whilst January 2023 saw Doodles acquire award-winning animation studio Golden Wolf, with their industry-leading talent helping to push Doodles further.

Many household names have collaboration with Doodles, including Crocs, Casio G-SHOCK, Adidas, AriZona and many, many more. 2024 saw Doodles expand further with the launch of Doodles Records, the release of the animated film Dullsville and the Doodleverse, and a partnership with McDonalds which saw branded McCafe cups arrive for the holiday season.

2025 began with founder Burnt Toast becoming Doodles CEO in January 2025. This was followed by the reveal of DreamNet in March 2025, and the uch-anticipated launch of the $DOOD token in May 2025. Since December 2024, the Doodles floor price has dived from 4 ETH to below 1 ETH, with the $DOOD token falling from a $65 million USD market cap on debut to just $20 million USD.

How might Doodles and Twix work together?

As of writing, no further information has been shared by either the Doodles or Twix teams – so night now, the only evidence of an incoming collaboration is that Twix are following Doodles on TikTok.

That might seem inconsequential, but Twix only follows two accounts – Doodles and Snickers – and teasers such as these are commonly seen before a collaboration is announced. In a dash of irony, Doodles only follow 10 accounts on TikTok, and as of writing, Twix is not one of them – though that may change in future!

High-profile brands that have partnered with Doodles in the past typically release limited-edition versions of their products – such as a capsule merch collection, branded packaging or more. Twix have collaborated with the likes of Adidas, Fruity Pebbles, Krispy Kreme and many others in recent years – though what they could do with Doodles remains to be seen.

Hyperliquid’s HYPE token soars to new ATH amid trading surge and CFTC collaboration https://earlybirdsinvest.com/hyperliquids-hype-token-soars-to-new-ath-amid-trading-surge-and-cftc-collaboration/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/hyperliquids-hype-token-soars-to-new-ath-amid-trading-surge-and-cftc-collaboration/#respond Sat, 24 May 2025 21:27:27 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/hyperliquids-hype-token-soars-to-new-ath-amid-trading-surge-and-cftc-collaboration/

Hyperliquid’s native token, HYPE, surged to a new record high following a significant increase in trading activity and open interest on the platform.

This momentum mirrors the broader market upswing driven by Bitcoin’s latest price milestone and coincides with Hyperliquid’s public response to regulatory discussions with the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

    Hyperliquid’s open interest

According to data from CoinGlass, Hyperliquid’s open interest is approaching the $12 billion mark, reaching $9.4 billion on May 23.

This number represents a 53% climb from the platform’s previous peak of around $6 billion, registered earlier in the month.

Open interest tracks the total number of active futures and perpetual contracts, often rising when market sentiment strengthens.

With Bitcoin price rising to a new all-time high above $111,000 on May 22, investors’ appetite for derivatives grew, and platforms like Hyperliquid experienced a sharp uptick in trading activity on their platform.

    Engagements with CFTC

Meanwhile, amid the growing attention on the platform, Hyperliquid Labs submitted two comment letters to the CFTC.

These responses addressed the agency’s open calls for feedback on perpetual derivatives and 24/7 crypto trading.

In the letters, the company outlined how its decentralized infrastructure supports transparency, self-custody, and composability, which are core benefits of on-chain perpetual contracts.

Hyperliquid also stressed that its platform offers continuous liquidity, real-time collateral management with pre-funded accounts, automated liquidations, and round-the-clock trading.

It also highlighted features like decentralized infrastructure and immutable audit trails, strengthening resilience and compliance readiness.

    The company concluded:

“We believe that Hyperliquid exemplifies how core defi principles can be put into practice to enhance market efficiency, market integrity, and user protection. Supporting DeFi in the US with open dialogue and a clear regulatory framework is an opportunity to ensure the US remains a leader in financial innovation while robustly protecting users.”

    HYPE climbs to new ATH

These regulatory engagements and advancements on the decentralized trading platforms aided HYPE’s climb to a new all-time high.

According to CryptoSlate’s data, the token joined the broader market rally, jumping over 12% in the last 24 hours to a new high of over $37. The digital asset has risen by over 95% in the previous 30 days.

However, not all traders have benefited from this run.

Blockchain analysis platform SpotOnChain reported that a large whale shorted 1.875 million HYPE tokens, worth over $57 million, at 5x leverage.

As prices spiked, the whale closed their position at a loss of $23.5 million, wiping out most of the $30.5 million USDC they had deposited to maintain the bet. Their remaining balance stands at just under $7 million.

    Public-private collaboration is shaping Pakistan’s crypto economy https://earlybirdsinvest.com/public-private-collaboration-is-shaping-pakistans-crypto-economy/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/public-private-collaboration-is-shaping-pakistans-crypto-economy/#respond Sun, 20 Apr 2025 05:10:04 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/public-private-collaboration-is-shaping-pakistans-crypto-economy/

The following is a guest post and opinion from Vince Kadar, CEO of Polymath.

The global crypto landscape is evolving rapidly, and Pakistan is no exception. US President Donald Trump’s pro-crypto policies have influenced the Pakistani government’s stance, transforming it from a crypto-averse nation into one that is actively working to build a crypto-friendly economy. Leading this shift is the Pakistan Crypto Council (PCC), which is playing a crucial role in formulating a comprehensive regulatory framework—a move reminiscent of similar efforts in the United States.

However, for Pakistan to establish itself as a true crypto hub and attract foreign direct investment (FDI), government efforts alone are not enough. Public-private collaboration is essential to educating policymakers, shaping legal frameworks, and ensuring the sustainable growth of Pakistan’s digital financial ecosystem.

Pakistan Crypto Council Follows the American Model

A look at recent global political events reveals the ideological foundation of the Pakistan Crypto Council and its policy direction.

In May 2023, Aisha Ghaus Pasha, a former Pakistani Minister of State for Finance and Revenue, said crypto would never be legal in Pakistan. The move came after the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) removed Pakistan from its gray list and set strict anti-money laundering restrictions.

A year later, on November 4, 2024, the Pakistani government changed its anti-crypto stance and considered regulating cryptocurrencies as legal tender. It’s not a coincidence that the US elections were held on the same day.

After Donald Trump won, he signed an executive order in January 2025 to form a Working Group on Digital Assets. The Group was an executive advisory council responsible for exploring a comprehensive digital asset regulatory framework.

Soon after, the Finance Ministry of Pakistan announced it was considering forming a “National Crypto Council” to legalize crypto. Interestingly, the announcement came after Pakistani Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb met a foreign delegation, including Trump’s advisers, to discuss digital asset regulations.

The Pakistan Crypto Council was formed in March 2024, with the Finance Minister as Chairman and Bilal bin Saqib as CEO.

Acknowledging the US President’s role, Saqib said that Donald Trump is

“the biggest bullish catalyst for crypto in history.” He further noted, “Trump is making crypto a national priority, and every country, including Pakistan, will have to follow suit or will be at the risk of being left behind.”

In America, Trump doesn’t want the crypto industry restricted by federal agencies’ red tape and bureaucratic quagmire. Thus, he has ensured that private company executives, CEOs, and founders are onboarded to lead crypto innovation in his country.

Trump has appointed ex-Paypal COO David Sacks as the “White House A.I. & Crypto Czar” to “guide policy for the Administration.” He also hosted the first White House Crypto Summit, bringing private industry leaders together to discuss crypto legislation.

Following in Trump’s footsteps, the Pakistan Crypto Council has also adopted a public-private collaborative approach towards the crypto economy. Such joint partnerships between the government and industry leaders are essential for building Pakistan’s future-proof digital financial ecosystem.

Private Enterprises’ Critical Role in Policy-Making

Recognizing the strategic importance of blockchain and crypto, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif recently convened a high-level meeting in Islamabad to discuss investments in Bitcoin mining and asset tokenization. Key government officials, the CEO of the Pakistan Crypto Council, and representatives from major crypto firms attended.

During the discussions, Sharif directed the Pakistan Crypto Council to engage with private sector leaders to build infrastructure for Bitcoin mining and tokenization. One proposed  initiative involves utilizing Pakistan’s excess energy to power Bitcoin mining operations.

The meeting also covered plans for a $3.5 billion Bitcoin mining infrastructure and leveraging blockchain technology to strengthen Pakistan’s economic resilience. Additionally, the focus was on creating compliant asset tokenization products and establishing a robust regulatory framework for digital assets.

This shift in governance—mirroring American strategies for crypto industry collaboration—highlights the critical role of private enterprises in shaping policy. Industry experts possess deep insights into market needs, making their input invaluable in crafting effective regulations.

According to a 2024 Chainalysis report, Pakistan ranked ninth in global crypto adoption. Citing this data, the Pakistan Crypto Council’s CEO said,

“With Pakistan ranking in the top 10 for global crypto adoption and an estimated 25M+ active users, alongside a $30B+ foreign remittance market, blockchain presents an unparalleled opportunity for innovation and growth. This is just the beginning; Pakistan is open for business.”

It is clear that for Pakistan to develop its crypto ecosystem securely and sustainably, the government cannot act alone. Just as the US integrates industry leaders into regulatory discussions, Pakistan must foster collaboration between government representatives, regulatory authorities, and crypto experts.

By aligning with Trump’s playbook, the Pakistan Crypto Council has already made a bold statement: “Pakistan is done sitting on the sidelines!” As a high-potential, cost-effective market with a young and tech-savvy workforce, Pakistan must harness the expertise of private enterprises to drive job creation and regulatory advancements.

With Pakistan accelerating its policy shift to strengthen the blockchain industry, a robust public-private partnership is the key to establishing the country as a leading crypto innovation hub in South Asia.

Cardano Foundation CEO Frederik Gregaard has confirmed that the blockchain platform is actively collaborating with NASA on data provenance, track and trace solutions, and satellite data applications.

    Cardano X NASA Collaboration Details

Gregaard detailed the scope of the partnership, stating that NASA is utilizing Cardano’s blockchain capabilities for data integrity and provenance tracking. He specifically emphasized the role of Merkle Patricia Tries (MPTs), an advanced data structure enabling efficient and verifiable storage of complex datasets on the blockchain. This feature allows ADA to handle large-scale and constantly updating information, a capability that is not present in other major blockchain networks.

He elaborated on this unique functionality: “We’re actually working with the National Space Agency, so NASA, around some of these track and trace, not just from physical items like hoodies, but also by data and data provenance. One of the unique things you can do on Cardano, which you cannot do on any other blockchains to my knowledge of the big size, right, is something called Merkle Patricia Tries. So we actually took the whole Bitcoin protocol and put it on Cardano.”

One of the most striking aspects of this development is that Cardano has integrated the entire Bitcoin protocol into its blockchain. This means that every Bitcoin transaction—past, present, and future—is automatically recorded on the ledger, ensuring a transparent and immutable record. Gregaard explained:

“Every single Bitcoin transaction there ever was and there ever will be is automatically recorded on Cardano. This is really hard to do because, you know, normally you take a data dump and you maintain it. But the idea that you have a flexible end date is very interesting.”

Beyond financial transactions, Gregaard underscored the significance of the ADA blockchain in satellite data management, which plays a critical role in scientific research, global tracking systems, and AI-driven applications:

“And what we do then is we’re exploring everything from satellite data, which keeps updating with billions of time, right? Because then it becomes a provenance layer of data. And when you have a provenance layer of data, you have quality for the AI to train on, right? And you have reinsurance and you have all those things which we’ve been dreaming about in blockchain for so long, right?”

Notably, the collaboration with NASA is not a new endeavor. In January, Gregaard hinted at this partnership during a conference, where he revealed that NASA had already been experimenting with the blockchain infrastructure. “NASA has code running on Cardano today. I bet some of you didn’t know that,” Gregaard stated.

At press time, ADA traded at $0.71
