A study from Waseda University found that a large number of people are turning to artificial intelligence (AI) for emotional support.

About 75% of participants said they had asked AI for advice about personal feelings, and 39% described AI as something steady and reliable in their lives.

The research was led by Fan Yang and Professor Atsushi Oshio from Waseda’s Faculty of Letters, Arts, and Sciences.

The researchers developed a tool called the Experiences in Human-AI Relationships Scale (EHARS), which measures people’s emotional relationships with AI. Their findings were published in Current Psychology.

The study focused on two main patterns in how people connect with AI, similar to the way we form bonds with other people.

One is called attachment anxiety, where people look for comfort and worry about not getting enough of it. The other is called attachment avoidance, where people feel uneasy getting emotionally close and prefer some distance.

The results showed that people with higher anxiety toward AI usually had lower self-esteem. Those with stronger avoidance toward AI tended to have negative opinions about it and used it less often.

The researchers pointed out that AI cannot leave or cut ties. Therefore, in theory, it should reduce the fear of being rejected. However, many participants still showed signs of anxiety toward AI.

A total of 242 individuals in China participated in the study. Of those, 108, including 83 women and 25 men, completed the full EHARS questionnaire.

AI Chatbot on X: Grok Drags 'White Genocide' Into Unrelated Chats https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ai-chatbot-on-x-grok-drags-white-genocide-into-unrelated-chats/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ai-chatbot-on-x-grok-drags-white-genocide-into-unrelated-chats/#respond Thu, 15 May 2025 23:18:41 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ai-chatbot-on-x-grok-drags-white-genocide-into-unrelated-chats/

Grok, the AI chatbot available on Elon Musk’s platform X, has drawn attention for adding comments about a disputed South African topic, “white genocide”.

The chatbot, developed by xAI, included the phrase in replies to conversations that had nothing to do with it.

An X user asked a simple question about how many times HBO has changed its name. Grok gave the correct timeline by listing the changes from HBO Go to HBO Max and then to Max. However, the chatbot added a message about violence against white people in South Africa.

Another example was shared by entrepreneur Sheel Mohnot, who received a response about South African racial tensions after asking a riddle.

X does not have a communications team, but Grok stated that it did not mean to mention South African topics in situations where they did not belong. It acknowledged that the comments were likely confusing and said the issue came from its system mistakenly linking unrelated subjects.

The chatbot added that it plans to correct this problem. After that, Grok clarified:

I don’t support violence or genocide in any form. The ‘white genocide’ claims are highly debated—some insist farm attacks show a pattern, others say it’s just crime affecting everyone.

Elon Musk launches AI chatbot Grok on Telegram as platform hits 1 billion users https://earlybirdsinvest.com/elon-musk-launches-ai-chatbot-grok-on-telegram-as-platform-hits-1-billion-users/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/elon-musk-launches-ai-chatbot-grok-on-telegram-as-platform-hits-1-billion-users/#respond Wed, 26 Mar 2025 14:12:50 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/elon-musk-launches-ai-chatbot-grok-on-telegram-as-platform-hits-1-billion-users/

Grok, the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot developed under Elon Musk’s tech ecosystem, is now available on Telegram.

The expansion was officially announced in a March 26 post on X (formerly Twitter), marking Grok’s first significant move beyond the X platform.

Elon Musk said on X:

“Grok now on Telegram.”

According to Grok, the chatbot is only available to Telegram users with a premium subscription. Users can start chatting by searching for “GrokAI” on Telegram.

However, features like “Think” and “DeepSearch” are still tied to the X platform or the standalone Grok app.

Telegram reaches 1 billion users

This move comes as Telegram hits a significant milestone in its user base.

On March 19, the social messaging application founder Pavel Durov shared that Telegram now has over 1 billion monthly active users. This surge makes it the world’s third-largest messaging platform after WhatsApp, and China’s WeChat.

Durov also noted rising engagement levels. On average, users now open the app 21 times a day and spend around 41 minutes daily.

Telegram’s financials reflect this growth, with the platform generating $547 million in profit during 2024. He highlighted Telegram’s independence and steady rise, contrasting it with larger rivals.

According to him:

“Ahead of us stands only WhatsApp — a cheap, watered-down imitation of Telegram. For years, they’ve tried to copy us while burning billions on lobbying and PR to slow us down. They failed. Telegram grew, became profitable, and — unlike our competitor — retained its independence.”

AIs go multi-platform

Grok’s expansion is part of a broader trend among AI companies. More chatbots are branching out from their original platforms to capture new markets.

In late 2024, OpenAI introduced ChatGPT on WhatsApp, including a voice support line for North America. That move placed it in direct competition with Meta’s own AI assistant.

These shifts show that the AI race is no longer platform-bound. Leading developers are now embedding smart assistants into everyday apps, aiming to become the default AI layer across messaging, search, and conversation.
