What you need to know

  • The Galaxy S26 Ultra could be shaving off over 1mm (under 7mm thick) and dropping some weight.
  • After years of 45W, Samsung is said to be catching up to Chinese rivals with a possible 60W charging speed for the S26 Ultra.
  • The upcoming phone might also offer new anti-glare glass plus a mysterious “CoE depolarizer” tech for better brightness and clarity outdoors.

Samsung’s next Ultra phone might not look like a radical departure based on current leaks so far, but the Galaxy S26 Ultra is shaping up to be a surprisingly refined beast under the hood.

According to a fresh scoop from @UniverseIce on X, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is set to slim down the hardware ever so slightly. The leaker says the Galaxy S26 Ultra is coming in at under 7mm thick versus the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s 8.2mm.

It’s also shedding a bit of weight compared to the S25 Ultra, aiming to be one of the thinnest and lightest flagship Android phones out there. The screen size isn’t changing, but the body might get a touch taller and wider.

But what really stands out is the bump in charging speed. After sticking to 45W for years, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to jump to 60W fast charging. If this holds up, it’ll be the fastest charging speed ever on a Galaxy flagship, and finally, something to match the pace set by rivals in China.

That said, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is likely sticking with a 5,000mAh battery. Under the hood, it’s expected to run on Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, though Samsung is also said to be testing its own Exynos 2600 as a possible option.

Even with all the potential upgrades inside, the outside is staying familiar. The S26 Ultra is tipped to keep the same sharp corners, flat edges, and bold quad-camera layout on the back.

Furthermore, the tipster says the S26 Ultra’s screen is getting an upgrade with new anti-reflective glass and something called CoE depolarizer tech. Not much is known about the CoE part yet, but the glass should cut glare and make the screen look brighter and sharper, especially in bright light.

Camera tweaks, not a revolution

For the cameras, the S26 Ultra is said to use Samsung’s newer ISOCELL HP2 (2026) sensor with a larger aperture for better light capture. It’s also expected to pack updated 3x telephoto and 5x periscope lenses, both with wider apertures too.

The Galaxy S26 Ultra looks more like a careful tune-up than a full redesign. Samsung is sticking to what works while finally adding some long-requested upgrades, like faster charging. With a launch expected in early 2026, more details should keep trickling out in the coming months.

JPMorgan Chase’s Plans for Charging Fintechs for Customer Account Data Raising Concerns With at Least One CFPB Official: Report https://earlybirdsinvest.com/jpmorgan-chases-plans-for-charging-fintechs-for-customer-account-data-raising-concerns-with-at-least-one-cfpb-official-report/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/jpmorgan-chases-plans-for-charging-fintechs-for-customer-account-data-raising-concerns-with-at-least-one-cfpb-official-report/#respond Wed, 23 Jul 2025 00:10:49 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/jpmorgan-chases-plans-for-charging-fintechs-for-customer-account-data-raising-concerns-with-at-least-one-cfpb-official-report/

One official at a federal consumer protection agency is reportedly raising concerns over JPMorgan Chase’s plan to charge fintech fees for customers’ account data.

An unnamed politically appointed official with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) believes the agency’s efforts to kill in court an open banking rule enacted under former US President Biden may be giving JPMorgan Chase the opportunity to charge the fees, reports Bloomberg.

The same official is discussing the issue with concerned fintech firms, according to multiple sources who asked to remain anonymous to talk about the controversial matter.

The CFPB open banking rule, which was finalized last year, prevents banks from imposing charges on third parties such as Coinbase, Venmo and PayPal to access customers’ deposit and credit card account information as a way to ensure competition.

However, CFPB’s Acting Director Russell Vought is now asking a federal judge to vacate the rule on several grounds, arguing that Section 1033 of the Dodd-Frank Act “does not authorize the Bureau to prohibit banks from charging any fees for maintaining and providing access through the required developer interfaces.”

Critics of JPMorgan Chase’s fee proposal say it could stifle the fintech sector.

Graham Steele, the former assistant Treasury secretary for financial institutions in the Biden administration, says the Trump administration’s efforts to shutter the CFPB and delete Biden-related policies are wreaking havoc in the fintech industry.

“By repealing the rule without fully thinking it through, they have caused a lot of problems in the marketplace and for consumers.”

The CFPB did not respond to the media’s request for comment at time of publication.

Meanwhile, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon defended the fee proposal during the bank’s second-quarter earnings call.

“It just costs a lot of money to set up the APIs and stuff like that to run the system protection.”

Critics of the bank fees include cryptocurrency companies and investors.

Says Alex Rampell, a general partner at venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz,

“Make no mistake: this isn’t about a new revenue stream. It’s about strangling competition. And if they get away with this, every bank will follow.”

Billion-Dollar Bank To Hand Out $510,000 To Settle Class Action Lawsuit Alleging Improper Charging of Overdraft Fees https://earlybirdsinvest.com/billion-dollar-bank-to-hand-out-510000-to-settle-class-action-lawsuit-alleging-improper-charging-of-overdraft-fees/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/billion-dollar-bank-to-hand-out-510000-to-settle-class-action-lawsuit-alleging-improper-charging-of-overdraft-fees/#respond Fri, 18 Jul 2025 06:55:09 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/billion-dollar-bank-to-hand-out-510000-to-settle-class-action-lawsuit-alleging-improper-charging-of-overdraft-fees/

A multi-billion-dollar bank is planning to shell out $510,000 to settle a class action lawsuit stemming from allegations that the financial institution hit customers with improper overdraft fees.

Customers accuse Park National Bank of assessing allegedly improper Authorized Positive Purportedly Settled Negative (APPSN) fees between November 1st, 2016 and February 20th, 2025.

An account that is initially authorized for a transaction but later has insufficient funds to process it and is overdrawn will receive APPSN fees, according to Law Insider.

The Ohio-based Park National Bank, which U.S. Federal Reserve statistics indicate has more than $9.8 billion in consolidated assets, denies any wrongdoing or liability but opted to settle the case to avoid dealing with the cost of litigation.

The bank agreed to create a settlement fund of $510,000, and it will also provide overdraft forgiveness as defined in the agreement.

Of that settlement fund, up to $170,000 could go toward attorneys’ fees. The court will determine the amount of the attorneys’ fees and costs based on numerous factors, including risk, time and the outcome of the case.

The court plans to hold a final approval hearing for the settlement on September 5th. If it is approved, payments should be made within two months of the effective date.
