Ethereum price found support near the $3,680 zone. ETH is now rising and might soon aim for a move toward the $4,000 zone.

  • Ethereum started a fresh increase above the $3,740 and $3,800 levels.
  • The price is trading above $3,820 and the 100-hourly Simple Moving Average.
  • There was a break above a bearish trend line with resistance at $3,810 on the hourly chart of ETH/USD (data feed via Kraken).
  • The pair could start a fresh increase if it remains supported above the $3,800 zone in the near term.

Ethereum Price Eyes Fresh Gains

Ethereum price started a downside correction from the $3,940 level, like Bitcoin. ETH price declined below the $3,900 and $3,800 support levels.

The bears even pushed the price below the 50% Fib retracement level of the upward move from the $3,515 swing low to the $3,940 high. Finally, the price spiked below $3,700 and the 100-hourly Simple Moving Average. It tested the $3,680 support zone.

The bulls protected the 61.8% Fib retracement level of the upward move from the $3,515 swing low to the $3,940 high. The price is again rising above the $3,750 level. There was a break above a bearish trend line with resistance at $3,810 on the hourly chart of ETH/USD.

Ethereum price is now trading above $3,820 and the 100-hourly Simple Moving Average. On the upside, the price could face resistance near the $3,880 level. The next key resistance is near the $3,920 level. The first major resistance is near the $3,940 level. A clear move above the $3,940 resistance might send the price toward the $3,980 resistance.

An upside break above the $3,980 resistance might call for more gains in the coming sessions. In the stated case, Ether could rise toward the $4,050 resistance zone or even $4,120 in the near term.

Another Drop In ETH?

If Ethereum fails to clear the $3,880 resistance, it could start a downside correction. Initial support on the downside is near the $3,800 level. The first major support sits near the $3,720 zone.

A clear move below the $3,720 support might push the price toward the $3,680 support. Any more losses might send the price toward the $3,565 support level in the near term. The next key support sits at $3,500.

A group of Spanish lawmakers wants the country’s financial top regulator to force crypto to carry “traffic light”-style risk warnings.

The Spanish news agency EFE (via MSN ) reported that the Sumar group of MPs wants the National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) to use the system for retail investors.

The group says that the system would let users “clearly and visually” identify the type of asset they are purchasing.

Sumar has sent a written proposal to the regulator. The group complained that a “significant portion” of tokens traded on crypto exchange platforms “lack material backing or any underlying value.”

Traffic Light Crypto Warnings Coming to Spain?

The parliamentary group also wants to rename cryptoassets like Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH).

It proposes using terms like “crypto bets” or “unbacked assets.” The lawmakers justified their request by explaining that coins “do not grant their owners any rights to tangible assets or have any connection to productive activities.”

The traffic light warning system would see the CNMV apply one of three labels to each cryptoasset on an exchange or bank’s investing platform.

  • The regulator would give a green light to cryptoassets that are registered, supported, and supervised. These coins would also need to demonstrate stable market performance.
  • It would use yellow for cryptoassets that have “limited backing” or display moderate volatility.
  • An orange light would identify “unsupervised” coins with high risk levels.
  • And a final red label would be reserved for “speculative assets with no identified issuer or material backing.”

Crypto Concentrates Wealth, Say Lawmakers

Sumar said it is wary of “extreme forms of fictitious capital that do not generate value, but rather generate volatility, inequality, and wealth concentration.”

Carlos Martín Urriza, the Sumar spokesperson for Economy and Finance, said policymakers should protect retail investors from assets that are not backed by a verified asset or collateral.

He added that crypto trading is often more similar to betting than to investing. Furthermore, Sumar wants the CNMV to force banks and exchanges to ensure their customers read pre-purchase information on cryptoassets before allowing them to buy coins.

This should apply regardless of a token’s individual classification, Sumar said. It added that these mandatory warnings must be clearly summarized and contain visual elements.

Sumar suggested that the CNMV use prominent warning systems. It said the regulator should base its models on those already used in sectors such as gambling or tobacco sales.

Restrict Access to AI-powered Trading, MPs Urge

Sumar lawmakers also want to create specific regulations for algorithmic trading pools. And the group wants to restrict retail investors’ access to trading platforms that use AI or algorithms.

Sumar is a left-wing coalition comprising 20 parties that was first formed to run in the July 2023 general elections.

Although it does not have a representation in the Senate, it has 31 lawmakers in the lower house, the Congress of Deputies. It makes up one of the 11 political blocs in Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez’s ruling coalition.

This year has seen some of Spain’s largest banks move into the crypto sector as the popularity of coins continues to grow on the Iberian Peninsula.

Here’s How to Navigate the Yen Carry Trade in 2025 as Japan Faces Economic Shift: Bybit https://earlybirdsinvest.com/heres-how-to-navigate-the-yen-carry-trade-in-2025-as-japan-faces-economic-shift-bybit/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/heres-how-to-navigate-the-yen-carry-trade-in-2025-as-japan-faces-economic-shift-bybit/#respond Sun, 23 Feb 2025 13:47:15 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/heres-how-to-navigate-the-yen-carry-trade-in-2025-as-japan-faces-economic-shift-bybit/

The leading crypto derivatives trading platform, Bybit, has outlined potential challenges awaiting the Japanese yen carry trade in 2025 as the Bank of Japan (BoJ) implements policy changes and faces evolving economic conditions.

According to the report, the yen’s status as a primary funding currency in the foreign exchange (FX) market could be questioned in the coming months. The evolving Japanese financial landscape could see an increased risk of rapid unwinding in yen carry trades, raising the need for alternative funding currencies and a diversification of currency exposure for traders.

Effectiveness of the Yen Carry Trade

Over the last three decades, the BoJ has maintained ultra-loose monetary policies, sustaining a zero or negative interest rate environment to fight inflation and stimulate economic growth. As a result, the yen carry trade has been a fundamental strategy for traders in global FX markets.

Carry trade is a strategy where FX traders take advantage of differences in interest rates between currencies. This popular investment strategy entails borrowing money in currencies with low interest rates and investing in stocks and bonds based on other currencies with higher interest rates.

Due to the yen’s low interest rates, it has remained an attractive funding currency over the years. Bybit noted that the effectiveness of the yen carry trade has been closely linked to global economic conditions like the U.S. Federal Reserve’s aggressive rate hikes. However, this carry trade has also been vulnerable to periods of financial stress and is becoming increasingly reliant on stable currency conditions.

This year, macroeconomic factors reshaping Japan’s economy are driving a significant transformation in the landscape for the yen trade. These factors include rising inflation, wage growth, and speculation about changes in the BoJ’s monetary policies.

Adaptability and Diversification

Before now, Japan has struggled with deflation and stagnant wage growth; however, recent years have seen inflation consistently surpass the BoJ’s long-standing 2% target. Since the BoJ has historically maintained ultra-loose policies, growing inflationary pressures may cause the central bank to hike interest rates. The implications of such decisions could cause a ripple effect in global FX dynamics, altering the yen’s appeal for carry trades.

While the yen may continue to serve as the preferred currency for carry trades, the BoJ’s actions could gradually reduce its dominance.

Bybit said FX traders could explore other high-yielding currencies like the Mexican peso (MXN), South African rand (ZAR), and Turkish lira (TRY) as alternatives to the yen; however, each currency comes with risks.

“Ultimately, the key to navigating the evolving carry trade landscape in 2025 lies in adaptability,” Bybit noted, adding that traders need dynamic risk management strategies and diversification to remain afloat.
