Google IO 2025 Project Moohan headset in person's hands

Lanh Nguyen / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • A new update to Samsung’s Camera Assistant Good Lock module adds a new “3D Capture” setting.
  • The description confirms the “Galaxy XR” branding for Samsung’s XR headset.
  • It also confirms that Samsung phones will be able to shoot 3D/spatial images and videos for viewing on the Galaxy XR headset.

Samsung teamed up with Google for its Project Moohan headset on the brand-new Android XR platform. Samsung is said to be gearing up to launch the headset very soon, either by the end of this month or the next, depending on which leak you believe. Samsung has now accidentally disclosed that the Project Moohan headset will be called “Galaxy XR,” and that users will be shoot spatial images and videos on their phones to view it on the headset, just like they can on newer iPhones and the Apple Vision Pro.

Don’t want to miss the best from Android Authority?

Sammobile reports that a new version of the Camera Assistant app (v4.0.0.3) is available on the Galaxy S25 FE but not yet on other Galaxy devices. This new version of the Good Luck module doesn’t open any exclusive functionality on the Galaxy S25 FE. However, when the app is installed on a Galaxy S25 Ultra, users can spot a new “3D capture” feature in the app’s settings.

Samsung Camera Assistant App 3D Capture

As the description states, the new 3D capture setting adds a button to the top of the camera preview, so users can shoot Galaxy XR-compatible spatial photos and videos. This not only confirms that the Project Moohan headset will be called “Galaxy XR” as widely rumored, but users will be able to shoot their own 3D/spatial content on their phones to view it on the headset. Since it refers to “headsets” in the plural, there can be other XR devices within the family branding.

Samsung Camera Assistant 3D Photo

Leaker Ice Universe shot a video using the new feature. As the leaker notes, the video is shot in 4K 30fps, and shows up with a “Shot in 3D” label in the Gallery app.

Samsung Camera Assistant 3D video capture for Galaxy XR

This feature doesn’t come as a surprise, as user-generated content forms an essential consumption bucket for XR headsets. Apple offers the same on the Apple Vision Pro, and it’s the reason why the iPhone 16 switched away from a diagonal rear camera arrangement to a vertical one — you need two side-by-side lenses to capture depth data for spatial/3D content.

It remains to be seen which Samsung phones can shoot spatial content. It’s fair to expect that the company’s latest flagships, like the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and the Galaxy S25 series will be able to shoot 3D content. Most of Samsung’s phones come with a vertical rear camera arrangement, so the rest depends on whether they have powerful enough hardware to shoot 3D content. We hope to learn more soon.

Amazon’s Lens Live Turns Camera Into a Shopping Tool https://earlybirdsinvest.com/amazons-lens-live-turns-camera-into-a-shopping-tool/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/amazons-lens-live-turns-camera-into-a-shopping-tool/#respond Wed, 03 Sep 2025 20:37:16 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/amazons-lens-live-turns-camera-into-a-shopping-tool/

Amazon has introduced a new feature that blends visual search with artificial intelligence (AI), called Lens Live.

This AI tool allows shoppers to instantly search for products by pointing their phone camera at real-world objects.

This new tool builds on Amazon’s existing image-based search option, Amazon Lens, which already lets people look for products by uploading pictures or scanning barcodes.

The feature is designed to support how people shop today, often browsing items in physical stores and then checking online to compare prices.

Amazon’s AI assistant, Rufus, is also built into the experience. Rufus offers short product overviews and suggests follow-up questions users can ask to learn more about what they are seeing.

This gives shoppers quick access to extra product details without needing to leave the camera view or dig through multiple pages.

On the technical side, Lens Live is powered by Amazon’s cloud services. It uses SageMaker for machine learning and OpenSearch for fast product lookup. These systems work behind the scenes to ensure matches are accurate and the experience is responsive.

At launch, Lens Live is only available on iOS devices and is currently limited to users in the US. Amazon has not confirmed a timeline for introducing the feature to Android or for users outside the US.

On August 26, Google introduced a new image-focused model called Gemini 2.5 Flash Image. What does it offer? Read the full story.

Pixel camera app creators update Indigo to address its main flaws https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pixel-camera-app-creators-update-indigo-to-address-its-main-flaws/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pixel-camera-app-creators-update-indigo-to-address-its-main-flaws/#respond Mon, 30 Jun 2025 17:23:28 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pixel-camera-app-creators-update-indigo-to-address-its-main-flaws/

Joe Maring / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • The latest update to the new Project Indigo app disables super-resolution by default on many iPhones.
  • The changes appear aimed at reducing overheating and stability issues reported in early tests.
  • Other tweaks include thermal warning adjustments and lower capture rates on weaker devices.

When we tested Project Indigo last month, we were impressed with its lifelike photos, but the app also caused our iPhone 16 to run hot and freeze up. Indigo is built by two of the creators behind Google’s Pixel camera app, and now a fresh update (Version 10.2) has landed this week that appears to address these sorts of issues.

According to the release notes, the Indigo update disables super-resolution by default on the iPhone 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max, 15, and 15 Plus models. It also tweaks thermal warnings so they only appear when the device reaches a “critical” temperature state rather than earlier in the overheating process.

Other changes include quality fixes for multi-frame super-resolution in scenes with both bright and low dynamic range areas, as well as reduced photo capture rates on lower-performing devices to improve stability. Tech Previews are also now disabled while captures are processing, and the update rounds out with general bug fixes and improvements.

While the update doesn’t explicitly mention performance or overheating fixes, many of these adjustments seem aimed at reducing the app’s processing load and preventing the heat build-up that could be the cause of crashes.

There’s still no timeline for the Android version of Indigo, but the developers previously confirmed it is in the works.

Samsung teases smarter ‘Ultra’ AI camera for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/samsung-teases-smarter-ultra-ai-camera-for-the-galaxy-z-fold-7/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/samsung-teases-smarter-ultra-ai-camera-for-the-galaxy-z-fold-7/#respond Thu, 12 Jun 2025 09:36:06 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/samsung-teases-smarter-ultra-ai-camera-for-the-galaxy-z-fold-7/

What you need to know

  • Samsung is planning to upgrade the Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra’s camera with a new AI system.
  • The new software will “understand what you’re looking at” and “respond,” according to the latest teaser.
  • Samsung once again teases that the Galaxy Z Fold upgrade will include an “Ultra” camera.

Samsung continues to tease the launch of its next foldable, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, and today it revealed a bit about the phone’s planned camera upgrades. The company reinforced the need for hardware, software, and AI to work together to provide top-notch mobile camera experiences in 2025, as it wrote in a blog post. Specifically, Samsung previewed an intelligent camera system that can understand what you’re shooting and adjust on the fly to match any situation.

“As AI evolves from text-based prompts to multimodal understanding, Galaxy devices are becoming smarter — able to get what you’re looking at and respond to situations. The camera is at the heart of this transformation,” the company explained. “More than just a tool for capturing images, coupled with enhanced AI-powered features, the Galaxy camera is now part of the intuitive interface that turns what users see into understanding and action.”

We’ve already seen intelligent software use mobile cameras for object recognition and context awareness. The Samsung Galaxy S25 series was one of the first to get Gemini Live’s multimodal video streaming capabilities. With it, users can show Gemini their surroundings and converse with AI about them.

However, this teaser confirms Samsung has bigger plans for how AI can improve camera performance on foldable phones.

“When paired with the flexible, expansive screen of a foldable, this experience becomes even more powerful, dynamic and immersive,” Samsung writes. “Because innovation means nothing without trust, privacy is built into every layer helping to ensure that data is protected at all times.”

The teasers come as Samsung is expected to bring over the flagship 200MP camera sensor from the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition to the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 this year.

“The camera will only get smarter — helping users capture life’s moments more vividly and make everyday experiences more seamless, personal and impactful,” the company adds.

The blog post concludes with a final message: “The Ultra experience is ready to unfold.”

Whether it’s called the Galaxy Z Fold Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 7, or Galaxy Z Fold 7 Ultra, it’s clear we’re in for big camera upgrades when it comes to Samsung’s next-generation foldable.

Pixel 9a camera fix is in: no more flickering https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pixel-9a-camera-fix-is-in-no-more-flickering/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pixel-9a-camera-fix-is-in-no-more-flickering/#respond Thu, 17 Apr 2025 22:23:27 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pixel-9a-camera-fix-is-in-no-more-flickering/
Google Pixel 9a display

Lanh Nguyen / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • A recent update to the Pixel 9a caused the front-facing camera to glitch out during preview.
  • Users observed a “flickering” effect where the camera seemed to jump between exposure levels.
  • Now a new Pixel Camera update appears to fully resolve the issue.

Google’s Pixel 9a may be the company’s new smartphone hotness, but earlier this week we shared an odd problem with you that new owners of the phone were experiencing. When attempting to take photos with the 9a’s front-facing camera in lower-light environments, the in-app preview they’d see would flicker and jump back and forth between two brightness levels. And while it didn’t impact the pictures you actually took, and you could roll back your phone’s software to avoid it entirely, it was nonetheless a little annoying and a small blemish on the phone’s launch. But today we can share that Google has finally sorted this one out.

There’s a new version 9.8.102.748116395.16 release of the Pixel Camera app out now, and after ChromeUnboxed brought it to our attention, we decided to put it to the test. While we were easily able to recreate the flicker problem on our Pixel 9a handset earlier this week, after installing this new update we can confirm that it’s no longer happening. The image in the viewfinder preview maintains its expected exposure, and pics still look just as good as ever. Despite that positive change, some users are still running into odd behavior during macro photography, so Google’s work may not yet be complete.

If you were running into this glitch yourself on your own shiny new Pixel 9a, just go ahead and check for updates, and you should be well on your way to flicker-free performance. And we can’t promise it won’t just introduce a ton of new bugs, but if you’re feeling brave, today’s also your first shot to try the Android 16 Beta on your Pixel 9a.

Pixel 10 could show up with a new camera lens according to latest leak https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pixel-10-could-show-up-with-a-new-camera-lens-according-to-latest-leak/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pixel-10-could-show-up-with-a-new-camera-lens-according-to-latest-leak/#respond Tue, 11 Mar 2025 16:22:06 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/pixel-10-could-show-up-with-a-new-camera-lens-according-to-latest-leak/

What you need to know

  • Tipster OnLeaks has come up with the CAD renders of the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and the Pixel 10 Pro XL.
  • All three CAD-based renders are now out, revealing an identical design — including flat sides and color options.
  • The only big change appears to be the new camera addition on the base Pixel 10 handset.
  • All three phones are expected to be powered by the new Tensor G5 SoC.

While we await the Pixel 9a launch, we already get to see what Google’s next flagship series could potentially look like. The Computer Aided Design (CAD) renders of the trio Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and 10 Pro XL have now surfaced, which indicates very minimal changes over the predecessor models.

The renders were shared by Android Headlines in conjunction with tipster OnLeaks. They not only reveal the design but also some of the expected dimensions are shared.

Per the publication, the Pixel 10 is sticking to the near-identical design of the predecessor Pixel 9, meaning it will have the same 6.3-inch display and will measure 152.8 x 72 x 8.6mm.

The Pixel 10 renders also suggest that the device will feature flat matte-finished sides again with minimal curves towards the edges for a better grip. The power button followed by volume rockers is placed on the right pane of the handset. The shared renders also appear in a pink hue as seen on the previous iteration.

The one big change, however, is expected to be in the camera segment as the leak suggests we would see a triple camera setup on the Pixel 10, unlike the Pixel 9, which came with dual cameras.

On the other hand, the latest Pixel 10 Pro renders also indicate that it will also be identical to the predecessor Pixel 9 Pro, including the dimensions. It is likely to measure 152.8 x 72 x 8.6mm, similar to the previous iteration. We will again likely be seeing the same 6.3-inch display. This appears to be good news for the cases used on the Pixel 9 series, as it would fit the successors as well.

The Pixel 10 Pro will also be retaining the triple camera system comprising a primary lens, ultra-wide-angle camera, and a periscope lens. Unlike the matte sides on the Pixel 10, the Pro model is expected to be coming in a glossy finish.

The case appears to be the same with the Pixel 10 Pro XL model as well because the shared renders suggest the same design setup as the Pixel 9 Pro XL. The former will have a 6.8-inch display accompanied by 162.7 x 76.6 x 8.5mm dimensions — nearly identical to the previous iteration. The XL stands out to be the flagship model in the lot — thanks to the large display and a bigger battery is also expected.

While all three Pixel 10 series phones aren’t changing much in design aesthetics, we expect some solid changes in the internals, which can include the new and presumably powerful Tensor G5 chip.

Like the predecessors, the launch of the trio is expected to be sooner — maybe a couple of months after the Google IO event, which is going to be held in May. While we wait, here’s a look at what we’d wish to see with the Pixel 10 series.
