Wintermute, a trading firm involved in cryptocurrency markets, has requested that US regulators officially declare that certain blockchain tokens should not be subject to securities laws.

In a letter to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the company argued that clearer definitions are necessary to prevent confusion regarding the regulation of blockchain tokens.

Wintermute focused specifically on “network tokens”, digital assets that are essential to running decentralized platforms. These tokens help blockchain systems operate by enabling functions such as transaction validation and access to services.

According to Wintermute, this distinguishes them from financial instruments like stocks or bonds, which are typically the primary focus of securities regulations.

were highlighted as examples of tokens that should clearly not be treated as securities. The company warned that if such tokens were misclassified, even basic trades involving them might require complex regulatory approval. This would likely reduce trading activity in the US and increase costs for participants.

Wintermute also noted that labeling these tokens as securities could push developers and investors to relocate their activities to countries with more favorable regulations.

The company compared these tokens to items like real estate or rare collectibles, which people buy to earn money later, but that are not classified as securities.

According to Wintermute, the main difference is that network tokens are designed to facilitate system functionality, rather than granting ownership or profit rights to individuals.

Recently, a group of international regulators and exchange associations has asked the SEC to take a stance on tokenized stocks. What did they say? Read the full story.

The British minister is calling for a ban on political donations made in code: “Democracy funding is a controversial region.” https://earlybirdsinvest.com/the-british-minister-is-calling-for-a-ban-on-political-donations-made-in-code-democracy-funding-is-a-controversial-region/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/the-british-minister-is-calling-for-a-ban-on-political-donations-made-in-code-democracy-funding-is-a-controversial-region/#respond Fri, 18 Jul 2025 19:48:09 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/the-british-minister-is-calling-for-a-ban-on-political-donations-made-in-code-democracy-funding-is-a-controversial-region/

British Cabinet Office Minister Pat McFadden has questioned the political donations made in Crypto. According to a Guardian report issued on July 18, 2025, McFadden, an intimate ally of British Prime Minister Kiel Starmer, said, “While democracy funding is often a controversial area, I think it’s very important to know who is providing donations.

Important discussions about crypto regulations have been cleaned up in both the UK and the US. In the US, President Donald Trump has announced that he will accept code donations. In fact, Thumzup Media Corporation, a Donald Trump JR-backed advertising technology startup, has secured board approval to hold up to $250 million in crypto. Meanwhile, the UK government is taking steps to “protect democracy.”

“Protection of democracy is one of the government’s most important duties. The increased risk that crypto donations, and crypto will be used to lead to British politics, is a clear and current danger to democratic integrity,” said Tom Brake, director of the Unlocked Democracy Campaign Group.

Crypto companies collect user data from 2026, with large fines for false reports

The UK is implementing serial crypto reforms through HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). The UK government has introduced another drastic regulatory move driven by the adoption of the Economic Co-operation and Development Organization (OECD) Crypto Asset Reporting Framework (CARF). Starting January 1, 2026, all cryptographic companies must collect and disclose detailed user and transactional data.

“If you are offering CryptoAsset services in the UK starting January 1, 2026, you will have a new responsibility to collect and report data. HMRC” said the May 14, 2025 announcement.

All CryptoAsset service providers (both domestic and foreign platforms that serve UK clients) are required to collect and report extensive information about all users and all transactions. This includes address, country of residence, national insurance number, unique taxpayer references, and more.

It is set to prohibit Crypto purchases with credit cards and loans

If you are using a credit card to purchase Crypto in the UK, it may be numbered on that day. The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has officially proposed rules to prevent retail investors from using borrowed funds to purchase cryptocurrency. This includes credit cards, personal loans, and even loans from crypto-specific lenders. However, some crypto users are worried that the UK ban will block innovation and limit access to the market.

The move is part of a broader effort to protect consumers from acquiring debts that chase unstable digital assets. And as more people are jumping into the code with money they don’t actually have, the UK’s top financial watchdogs are ringing their alarms.

Today, the US Senate Bank’s Subcommittee on Digital Assets held a hearing titled “Exploring a Bipartisan Legislative Framework for the Digital Asset Market Structure.”

(Spoiler alert: The word “Bitcoin” never appeared at the hearing. That said, Bitcoin is subject to some of the cryptographic regulations discussed at the hearing. Therefore, as a Bitcoin enthusiast, it is important to understand what has been said. )

The hearing came after Senators Cynthia Ramis (R-WY), Tom Tillis (R-NC), Bill Hagerty (R-TN) and Senate Bank Speaker Tim Scott (R-SC) issued the principles of digital asset market structure this morning. (See the complete list of principles here.)

Senator Ramis began it by moderating the event and touching on some of the aforementioned principles, adding that the United States is taking part in the 21st century now that the Senate has voted for a genius act.

Senators were joined by a panel of witnesses including Senators Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Bernie Moreno (R-OH), Angela of Brooks (D-MD), Dave McCormack (R-PA), and a panel of witnesses:

    • Sarah Hammer, Executive Director, Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania
    • Greg Zesalis, advisor to Multicoin Capital and member of the Board of Directors of the Blockchain Association and the Debt Education Fund.
    • Ryan Vanglak, Coinbase vice president of legal affairs
    • The prestigious Rostin Boehnham is a well-known fellow at Georgetown University’s Psoros Financial Market Policy Center and former chairman of the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

Fighting illegal activities in the crypto space

In the first round from Senator Ramis, both Behnam and Hammer highlighted the importance of fighting illegal activities involving digital assets through clear money laundering and counter-terrorism funding rules, but neither of them detailed what this would look like.

When Senator Ramis asked Hammer which countries should the US be aware of when it comes to regulating Crypto’s anti-terrorist funding, Hammer cited Singapore.

Before stepping down from the topic of fighting illegal cryptographic activity, Behnam argued that it would give more space to offensive stakeholders for operations to wait for Congress to pass laws of comprehensive market structure.

“Bad actors are drawn to unregulated areas,” says Behnam.

    Consumer protection for crypto investors

Senator Hagerty, a leading sponsor of the Senate recently passed Genius Act, praised the bipartisan efforts in the legislative process on digital assets, hinting at the notion that colleagues want to maintain momentum.

And on the bipartisan topic, the Senator, a Democrat senator present at the hearing, seemed optimistic about the possibility of code, but was also concerned about setting up a proper guardrail for investors.

She asked Behnam which consumer protection factors are essential to Crypto investors.

Behnam cited “bankruptcy protection” as the most important component of consumer protection.

“Customer assets must be completely separated, so there is no doubt that the assets will be returned to the customer in the event of bankruptcy,” Behnam said.

Prices that failed to legislate US cryptography

Heading into the second half of the hearing, Senator Moreno asked panelists how long the US must pass crypto regulations and what the price is for not doing so.

Xethalis responded by saying, “We must act now.”

He argued that initial costs could potentially allow other jurisdictions to establish more troubling rules for crypto. He cited the European enactment rules for internet commerce decades ago as a precedent for this.

Xethalis argued that the second cost is economical. He said the US is behind in both 5G development and silicon chip manufacturing, stressing that he doesn’t want the same to happen with cryptography.

    Bipartisan appeal

Senator Ramis closed the hearing by pleading with the senators and panelists to engage in discussions between the parties and work across the aisles, as he did with Senator Gillibrand.

She noted that because President Trump’s family is involved in the industry, some Democrats are reluctant to engage in the legislative process around the code, adding that code is greater than the president’s family involvement and Democrats should acknowledge this.

Chainlink Bullish Signal Stands Firm, But Bitcoin Is Calling The Shots https://earlybirdsinvest.com/chainlink-bullish-signal-stands-firm-but-bitcoin-is-calling-the-shots/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/chainlink-bullish-signal-stands-firm-but-bitcoin-is-calling-the-shots/#respond Sun, 08 Jun 2025 07:11:17 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/chainlink-bullish-signal-stands-firm-but-bitcoin-is-calling-the-shots/ CRYPTOWZRD noted in a recent update on X that Chainlink ended the session with a bullish close, hinting at potential further gains ahead. However, the analyst emphasized that Bitcoin will ultimately dictate the move. Keeping a close eye on the intraday chart, the expert mentioned that an early pullback could present a scalp opportunity, as long as Bitcoin aligns with the bullish outlook.

Breakout Likely With Strong Daily Candles

Breaking down his latest analysis, the trader explained that LINK’s daily candle officially closed bullish, marking a key technical point in the current trend. Meanwhile, LINKBTC ended the session on a positive note, which adds weight to the bullish outlook for LINK in the short term.

However, the analyst emphasized that more bullish daily closes on LINKBTC are needed to confirm momentum. A continuation of strength could lead to an impulsive breakout above the daily candle’s lower high trendline, igniting the next leg upward.

    Chainlink

A decisive move above the 0.000140 BTC resistance zone is expected to accelerate price action for LINK, giving bulls a clear signal to push higher. If momentum continues to build, LINK could rally toward the $16 resistance level, marking a major target for the current setup. For now, $12.50 remains a key support level on the daily timeframe and will act as a cushion if bearish pressure reemerges.

Looking ahead, the analyst pointed out that Bitcoin and Bitcoin Dominance will remain the primary market drivers for Chainlink heading into the weekend. While maintaining a rational outlook, CRYPTOWZRD plans to monitor LINK’s intraday chart closely for any developing setups.

    Awaiting Chainlink Next Trade Setup

In conclusion, CRYPTOWZRD emphasized that LINK’s intraday chart is showing signs of a bullish recovery, closely aligned with Bitcoin’s recent rebound. He expressed optimism that further upside is likely if current conditions persist, particularly if Bitcoin maintains its strength.

Despite the encouraging signs, CRYPTOWZRD noted that a temporary bearish pullback would be both natural and healthy within the current market context. Pullbacks often reset market conditions, providing better structure for stronger continuation patterns. He believes such a retracement could offer a favorable early entry point for long positions, especially for short-term or intraday traders looking to capitalize on the volatility.

As the market continues to evolve, CRYPTOWZRD advises traders to wait for clear confirmation of the next trade setup before taking action. His statement emphasized that strategic patience will be key in identifying the most rewarding opportunities. For now, traders should track price behavior closely and prepare to act swiftly when the next valid entry signal presents itself.

Raoul Pal under fire for calling NFTs the ‘best long-term store of wealth’ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/raoul-pal-under-fire-for-calling-nfts-the-best-long-term-store-of-wealth/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/raoul-pal-under-fire-for-calling-nfts-the-best-long-term-store-of-wealth/#respond Fri, 23 May 2025 01:48:02 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/raoul-pal-under-fire-for-calling-nfts-the-best-long-term-store-of-wealth/

Raoul Pal, CEO of Real Vision and a prominent voice in macro investing, has once again stirred debate in the digital asset space, this time by declaring NFTs the “single best long-term store of wealth.”

The comment, made in social media comment screenshotted by the community, followed his broader thesis that currency debasement and exponential technology trends are driving a historic shift in asset ownership.

    Pal wrote:

“You don’t own enough cryptoWhen you do, you don’t own enough NFTs, as art is upstream of wealth. Both will never be this cheap again.”

The statement was met with a mix of support, skepticism, and outright ridicule, highlighting a sharp divide in sentiment as the NFT market continues to recalibrate after its speculative peak.

Influencer Lark Davis echoed Pal’s view, admitting he held few NFTs and intended to change that this cycle. Pal responded with a suggestion to “just buy a Punk as a starter,” referring to CryptoPunks, one of the oldest and most recognizable Ethereum-based NFT collections.

    Opinion divided

Supporters of Pal argued that he has often been ahead of the curve, pointing to past calls on macro trends like institutional Bitcoin adoption and the rise of Web3. To them, NFTs, particularly those tied to cultural provenance, represent digital property in its earliest, most undervalued form.

However, most of the community was quick to oppose the notion, highlighting the fact that the NFT sector remains significantly below the peaks seen in 2021. Some were more critical and argued that NFTs were “overhyped” and are “drowning in a liquidity desert.”

Investor and analyst Fred Krueger quoted Pal’s NFT statement with disbelief, writing:

    “I kid you not.”

Gary Cardone echoed the sentiment, while other critics questioned the timing and substance of the call.

The clash over Pal’s comment reflects the growing sentiment in the industry that NFTs are speculative instruments whose long-term value remains unproven, despite the sector continuing to garner some support amid waning interest.

If you’re planning to travel internationally this year, you’ll want to have a solid game plan for phone coverage during your trip. There are several options available, including using a foreign SIM or eSIM, or even opting for a special travel SIM plan. For many, the most convenient method is simply using their carrier’s roaming solution, though not all carriers are created equal in this regard.

If your international roaming options are limited, you might be wondering if you can simply connect to an international Wi-Fi network to place phone calls instead. In most cases, the answer is yes, but whether you’re charged for it depends on your carrier’s policies.

    Ensuring You Have Wi-Fi Calling

First, it’s important to ensure you have Wi-Fi calling in the first place. The good news is that every major US carrier now offers this feature, even most prepaid providers. However, some carriers may have device restrictions. For example, Cricket typically requires a Cricket-purchased device to use its Wi-Fi calling feature, with only a few exceptions. If you’re unsure whether your carrier supports Wi-Fi calling on your device, be sure to check their terms and conditions.

Will Wi-Fi calling be free internationally?

Once you’ve confirmed that you have Wi-Fi calling, you might be wondering if you can use it for free while traveling internationally. If you’re calling the US, the answer is almost always yes. However, if you’re calling other countries while on an international Wi-Fi connection, you can generally expect a charge.

A look around Reddit makes it clear some travelers have reported being charged for Wi-Fi calls to the US while abroad, and you may have experienced this yourself. While this can happen, in most cases, it can be prevented.

How to avoid charges for Wi-Fi calls to the US while abroad

No one likes unexpected charges. For many prepaid providers, if Wi-Fi calling fails, you simply won’t be able to place the call, which means you’re less likely to face an unexpected fee. However, some prepaid providers can and will charge extra fees to your default billing payment if it aligns with their terms.

Regardless of whether the charge is on a prepaid or postpaid account, the reason behind it is usually the same: If your Wi-Fi call drops without your knowledge, your phone may automatically switch to a roaming network, resulting in charges.

To prevent this, follow these steps:

    • Turn on Wi-Fi calling before leaving the US. This may seem simple, but if you don’t enable Wi-Fi calling before departure, you likely won’t be able to activate it once abroad. Additionally, avoid turning it off while traveling, as you may not be able to reenable it. Need help? Check out our guide to Wi-Fi calling for exact steps and more details.
    • Enable Airplane mode. Don’t just turn off your data; instead, activate Airplane mode and then connect to a Wi-Fi network. This ensures your phone won’t attempt to connect to a mobile network if there’s an issue with the Wi-Fi call.

I have an international calling plan; can I use that over Wi-Fi calling?

Let’s say you live in the US and are visiting France. You use Wi-Fi calling to contact a few French businesses. Will you be charged if you already pay for an international calling plan? For nearly every carrier, the answer is yes.

An international calling plan is designed to allow users in the US to call other countries without extra charges. However, if your Wi-Fi connection isn’t US-based, you will likely incur a roaming fee. Some users attempt to bypass this by connecting to a Wi-Fi network through a VPN, but there are no guarantees, and doing so could potentially violate your plan’s terms of service.

Some argue that it shouldn’t matter where you are when using Wi-Fi calling since the traffic is still routed to T-Mobile (or another carrier) the same way. In theory, this means there’s no extra cost to the carrier. However, there’s no real way around it; carriers like T-Mobile benefit from steering users toward purchasing international roaming add-ons.

It’s important to clarify that international calling plans and international roaming plans are not the same. An international calling plan allows you to call other countries from the US, while an international roaming plan enables you to place calls to and from other countries.

If you have an international roaming plan, you shouldn’t see additional charges for Wi-Fi calls, as long as both the numbers you’re calling and receiving calls from are covered under your plan. Of course, if you have an international roaming plan, you can also make calls using your mobile network directly.

What is the best alternative to Wi-Fi calling with your carrier?

    Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority

If you don’t have an international calling plan and are looking for a cheap way to make calls while abroad, here are some options:

    • Use a VoIP service. A Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) provider lets you make free Wi-Fi calls to the US from any country. Our top recommendation is Google Voice: it may be more lightweight than other VoIP solutions, but it works well for Wi-Fi calling and offers competitive international rates, some as low as just a few cents per minute.
    • Check your carrier for add-on roaming plans. Even if your carrier doesn’t offer free roaming, it likely has some kind of international package you can purchase. Many prepaid carriers, including Google Fi, Mint Mobile, and others, offer affordable international add-ons.
    • Get a local SIM or eSIM. While this requires a tad more effort, the cheapest way to get international roaming service is to use a local SIM or eSIM provider. Many airports sell these through kiosks or small storefronts.
    • Consider a travel SIM plan. Travel SIMs and eSIMs are typically more expensive than local SIMs but offer greater convenience. You pay a provider for international data, and they partner with local carriers to give you seamless service while you travel.

Another option to consider is switching to a carrier where roaming isn’t an issue. For frequent international travelers, Google Fi is arguably the best option, even when compared to the big three carriers. Its Unlimited Plus plan costs just $65 per month or as low as $40 per line for four or more lines.

In addition to unlimited data, you get unlimited texts and data in over 200 countries, which activates instantly the moment you arrive — no changes or hassle required. You can learn more in our Google Fi plans guide or hit up the widget below to sign up for yourself.
