Nearly half of the US population has been impacted by data breaches in the first half of 2025 alone, according to a new report from the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC).

The ITRC says 1,732 data compromises were reported in the US in H1 2025, which impacted 165,745,452 individuals.

“Analysis of data from the first six months of the year reveals a landscape dominated by cyberattacks, with supply chain vulnerabilities persisting as a major threat vector. While the total number of compromises has not dramatically outpaced previous years, the impact on victims remains severe.”

There are currently around 342 million people in the US, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

The ITRC says there’s been a rise in artificial intelligence (AI)-powered phishing attacks, which are more difficult to detect, and other new threats to personal information.

“The introduction of repackaged and recirculated personal information – PCD (previously compromised data) – into the risk environment represents a significant new threat to organizations that are vulnerable to the use of stolen logins and passwords to gain access to mission-critical systems for ransom attacks and/or data exfiltration. The recent discovery of an unsecured cloud environment with more than 16 billion logins and passwords aggregated into a single database is an example of PCD.”

Bitcoin Breaches $100K As US-UK Sign Trade Deal And Arizona Approves Crypto Reserve Law https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-breaches-100k-as-us-uk-sign-trade-deal-and-arizona-approves-crypto-reserve-law/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-breaches-100k-as-us-uk-sign-trade-deal-and-arizona-approves-crypto-reserve-law/#respond Sat, 10 May 2025 07:31:26 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/bitcoin-breaches-100k-as-us-uk-sign-trade-deal-and-arizona-approves-crypto-reserve-law/

Bitcoin has made a dramatic return to six-figure territory and reclaimed its $100k milestone for the first time since January 2025. On 8 May 2025, BTC surged 4.2% from an intraday low of $95,967. As optimism returns to the crypto landscape, Bitcoin’s recent push towards $100k can be credited to bullish macroeconomic signals, including a landmark US-UK trade agreement announced by US President Donald Trump. Importantly, US state Arizona approved a landmark crypto reserve law for state-managed Bitcoin fund.

Arizona officially enacted House Bill 2749 on Thursday, 8 May 2025. While Arizona is now committed to building a Bitcoin reserve, Texas is expected to follow closely.

Man isn’t winning sweet—-so many nay-sayers, just days ago, whining, criticizing like little bitches and days later, we have one clean decision by NH, then reversal from Arizona Gov, next is Texas who hasn’t done anything Big since Big Oil and Gas!

Furthermore, despite pressure for cuts, the Federal Reserve held interest rates steady. This gave a fair boost to Bitcoin, which has been showing strength for weeks now. Although the Fed didn’t cut rates, economists expect a rate drop in June 2025. Meanwhile Trump urged Jerome Powell and the FOMC to lower rates, citing cooling inflation and reduced need for high borrowing costs.

Notably, Bitcoin first breached the $100k mark in December of last year, alongside Trump’s victory. BTC went all the way up to $109k before its trajectory was interrupted by factors including Trump’s tariffs and the global trade war.

Beyond immediate events, ongoing progress in the US and global crypto regulation and the emergence of strategic Bitcoin reserve initiatives are seen as supportive of long-term growth. Is $110k next for BTC?

Trump’s Trade Deal With UK: Major Catalyst For Bitcoin?

On 8 May 2025, a Reuters report confirmed the US-UK trade deal, where Trump and the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced a “breakthrough deal” on trade.

Cutting down the infamous Trump’s tariffs, the trade deal includes a 10% tariff on goods imported from the UK while Britain agreed to lower its tariffs to 1.8% from 5.1% and provide greater access to US goods.

“It opens up a tremendous market for us,” Trump said. Meanwhile, commenting on the trade deal Starmer said, “This is a really fantastic, historic day.”

Key Takeaways

  • With the $100,000 psychological barrier breached, traders are now eyeing $105,000 as the next key resistance level.
  • Should the US-UK trade deal progress smoothly, bulls argue that the path to $120,000 could open rapidly.

As Bitcoin (BTC) struggles amid the latest crypto market pullback – failing to decisively break past the $84,000 resistance – gold (XAU) continues its impressive rally, soaring to a record high of $3,000 per ounce on March 14.

Bitcoin Gets Outshined By Gold

2025 has started on a shaky note for the world’s largest cryptocurrency. BTC is down over 10% year-to-date (YTD), falling from approximately $94,000 on January 1 to around $84,000 at the time of writing. On the flip side, gold has surged nearly 13% in the same period.

Market analyst Northstar shared the following chart on X yesterday, illustrating the BTC-to-gold ratio over the past 12 years. According to the chart, BTC is beginning to break below a critical support line that has held strong for more than a decade.

If Bitcoin sustains price action below this support line for several weeks or months, it could signal the end of the current crypto bull run. BTC’s underperformance against gold is also evident in the contrasting capital flows into BTC and gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

According to data from the World Gold Council, US-based spot gold ETFs have attracted inflows exceeding $6 billion YTD. Globally, spot gold ETFs have seen more than $23 billion in inflows.

Meanwhile, data from SoSoValue indicates that US-based spot BTC ETFs have experienced nearly $1.5 billion in net outflows YTD. This sharp contrast in capital movement reflects a shift in investor strategy from risk-on to risk-off assets.

Several factors may explain investors’ growing aversion to risk-on assets, including US President Donald Trump’s new trade tariffs, the US Federal Reserve’s (Fed) hawkish monetary policy, and the recent stock market rout.

Is The Crypto Bull Run Over?

BTC’s underperformance relative to gold casts doubt on the longevity of the current crypto bull market. The total crypto market cap has shed over $600 billion since the start of the year, now standing at approximately $2.8 trillion.

Renowned gold advocate Peter Schiff argues that BTC has already been in a bear market for the past three years. In an X post, Schiff stated:

One Bitcoin now buys 27.7 ounces of gold. At its peak in 2021, one Bitcoin bought 36.3 ounces of gold. That means that in terms of gold, which is real money, the price of Bitcoin has fallen by 24%. So Bitcoin has been in a stealth bear market for the past three and a half years.

That said, positive macroeconomic developments could still turn the tide in BTC’s favor. For example, US inflation appears to be cooling, which may pressure the Fed to pivot toward quantitative easing and boost market liquidity –  a potential boon for risk-on assets.

Likewise, a breakdown in the US dollar index could reignite optimism for assets like stocks and cryptocurrencies. At press time, BTC trades at $84,902, up 3.8% in the past 24 hours.

Hotel Giant Handing $45,000,000 To Customers After Massive Data Breaches Hit Millions of People https://earlybirdsinvest.com/hotel-giant-handing-45000000-to-customers-after-massive-data-breaches-hit-millions-of-people/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/hotel-giant-handing-45000000-to-customers-after-massive-data-breaches-hit-millions-of-people/#respond Fri, 14 Mar 2025 21:48:48 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/hotel-giant-handing-45000000-to-customers-after-massive-data-breaches-hit-millions-of-people/

A US hotel giant is preparing to pay a $45 million settlement to millions of customers affected by two massive data breaches.

MGM Resorts International has reached the settlement over two breaches that hit about 37 million people in July of 2019 and September of 2023.

The 2019 breach exposed sensitive data including names, addresses, phone numbers and dates of birth, raising widespread identity theft concerns.

The 2023 breach also leaked personal data and triggered major issues at the hotels, rendering guests’ digital room keys inoperable while crashing ATMs, slot machines, and check-in systems.

The settlement resolves a class-action lawsuit led by Tonya Owens, filed in US District Court of Nevada.

Eligible class members can claim up to $15,000 for documented losses or tiered cash payments of $75, $50, or $20 based on the type of data compromised, plus one year of financial monitoring.

MGM has settled without admitting fault.

Claims must be filed by June 3, 2025, and opt-out or objection deadlines are May 19, 2025.
