  • Bitcoin has established itself as the king of the market: Pompliano
  • US government to start acquiring Bitcoin at some point, Pomp says

Anthony Pompliano, a venture investor and the CEO of ProCap, visited CNBC’s Squawk Box to talk about Bitcoin and its current position in the market, also mentioning altcoins, and stablecoins.

Pompliano (often referred to as “Pomp”) believes that at some point in the near future the US government is going to start buying Bitcoin.

Bitcoin has established itself as the king of the market: Pompliano

First of all, when Joe Kernen, the CNBC host, asked Pompliano about not only Bitcoin, but also Ethereum getting a lot of attention and inflows recently, Pomp stated that Bitcoin has established itself as the king of the market, and it is unlikely to change any time soon.

“Actually,” he said, “most Wall Street’s time and attention is on Bitcoin,” and not Ethereum or any other large-cap altcoin. Pompliano pointed out that even though Ethereum and Solana have also been receiving some inflows recently, however, they have not established new all-time highs, unlike BTC. Therefore, Bitcoin has broken away from the rest of the cryptocurrency market. He admitted that in the futur,e some other cryptos can also reach new price peaks, but so far, he said, Bitcoin continues to dominate the market in terms of the market cap growth, inflows, and overall investor attention.

Responding to another question about stablecoins, since there has been a lot of talk about them recently, Pomp said that these assets cannot go any further than just $1. They can grow in market cap in terms of more people using them but he pointed out, they will hardly rely on them in terms of financial performance, unlike with BTC.

US government to start acquiring Bitcoin at some point, Pomp says

Pomp’s statement about him expecting the US government was made as an answer to a question as to what the next big thing to move the Bitcoin price higher from where it is now will be. So, the US government announcing they are buying BTC for the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve would be one of those, per Pomp. He referred to this as “the main dish.”

The second thing here is that the last Wall Street companies that have been hesitating whether to buy BTC or not, will capitulate. The third driver would be that people who are “cautiously optimistic” about BTC would transition to being “optimistic.”

AI-Infused Blockchain Ambient to 'Replace Bitcoin,' Says Co-Founder https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ai-infused-blockchain-ambient-to-replace-bitcoin-says-co-founder/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ai-infused-blockchain-ambient-to-replace-bitcoin-says-co-founder/#respond Mon, 31 Mar 2025 16:03:52 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/ai-infused-blockchain-ambient-to-replace-bitcoin-says-co-founder/

A new artificial intelligence-infused blockchain with Andreseen Horowitz’s backing is “ultimately designed as a replacement for Bitcoin,” according to its co-founder Travis Good.

The far-fetched claim is rooted in what Good prognosticates as unvarnished reality: Bitcoin’s encryption mechanisms are “getting really stale” and could be “completely obsolete within five years,” creating a business conundrum for the miners behind it.

“You’ve got people who’ve invested billions of dollars in hash power for securing a network in ASICs,” he told CoinDesk at this year’s ethDenver conference. “And the question is like, where do they all go?”

His answer is Ambient, a blockchain with deep capabilities in the AI space – the “future economy,” as Good puts it – that could become a “decentralized competitor to OpenAI.” The network operates on a proof-of-work mechanism with familiar appeal to bitcoin miners, he said, making it an easy switch.

“It’s a useful proof of work network, which we don’t think anyone has ever done well in crypto,” Good said.

Many crypto projects have attempted to fuse the two buzzy tech trends on the belief that blockchains and decentralized crowdsourcing can steer AI better toward delivering for humanity than singular, private corporations possibly could.

One of the biggest and best-funded is Bittensor. But Good claims the market leader is woefully deficient because it doesn’t actually run AI models on blockchain, despite its original intention to “be this global computer.” His alternative, Ambient, cooks AI into its core.

Whether Bitcoin miners – let alone users – would actually embrace a radically new and different network likely hinges on Ambient’s economic success. Good seeks for Ambient to deliver super-intelligent AI fast, cheap, and critically, in the open, so that users get the answers they paid for.

While Ambient’s security rhymes with Bitcoin’s, the network itself runs like Solana.

Ambient raised $7.2 million in seed funding from a16z’s crypto accelerator program as well as Delphi Digital, one of the VC world’s hungriest funds for crypto-AI crossover tech.

“Everyone in crypto is currently using centralized AI to power their apps, to power their frontend,” said Alex Golding, a venture associate at Delphi. He thinks that’s a big issue because it deprives users of understanding what the models are trained on and exposes them to getting hoodwinked with answers derived from inferior models.

“Verified inference” by miners (the heart of their rewards mechanism) acts as a provenance fact-checker, ensuring that answers spat out by Ambient originate from the model people paid to use.

“If you don’t have verified inference, you’re guaranteed to get rugged,” Good said, adding a hyperbolic warning: “Nation state actors are going to poison your model and just do fun stuff, like we saw with Lazarus,” North Korea’s hackers.

Decentralized AI Opportunity Is 'Bigger than Bitcoin,' Says DCG's Barry Silbert https://earlybirdsinvest.com/decentralized-ai-opportunity-is-bigger-than-bitcoin-says-dcgs-barry-silbert/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/decentralized-ai-opportunity-is-bigger-than-bitcoin-says-dcgs-barry-silbert/#respond Sat, 08 Feb 2025 15:47:23 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/decentralized-ai-opportunity-is-bigger-than-bitcoin-says-dcgs-barry-silbert/

Crypto investment magnate Barry Silbert is betting big on decentralized AI, calling it “the next big era of crypto” that could be bigger than even bitcoin.

In a letter to shareholders of his crypto conglomerate Digital Currency Group, Silbert went long on deAI: the crypto industry’s effort to fuse AI innovations with blockchain tech. He believes the tech mashup may pay better dividends for humanity than the closed-off systems being developed by OpenAI and other giants.

“We’re moving from the digital ownership of assets to the decentralized ownership of intelligence and the availability of vast decentralized compute resources,” Siblert wrote in the Q4 letter reviewed by CoinDesk.

The setup reminded Silbert of bitcoin, the best-known and by far biggest cryptocurrency, and the one where he first made his crypto fortune. But instead of a money revolution, deAI could herald a power revolution with crypto as the mechanism to distribute ownership of and governance over powerful AI models.

DCG certainly thinks so. The company has already invested $105 million into over a dozen deAI projects, “and we’re excited to ramp this up in 2025,” Silbert wrote.

He highlighted DCG’s investment in Bittensor – a crypto network that specializes in machine learning and AI applications – as the portfolio company closest to “escape velocity.” Bittensor’s TAO token has many similarities to bitcoin, he wrote.

Notably, TAO’s market cap is $2.7 billion, a rounding error against bitcoin’s nearly $2 trillion valuation.

DCG plans to invest mightily in supporting the Bittensor ecosystem. Silbert pointed out that in November, it spun up a company called Yuma that incubates Bittensor infrastructure projects. And Grayscale, another DCG company, now offers investment products that give exposure to TAO.

Silbert’s Q4 letter capped a year of “rebuilding” at DCG after a long period of tumult spawned by the FTX implosion, which felled its lending business, Genesis. DCG is also a former owner of CoinDesk, having sold to Bullish in late 2023. All five of DCG’s wings had a “successful 2024,” he said.

“The discipline required over the last couple of years has resulted in enhanced infrastructure and more mature processes, improved governance, and a stronger organization focused on executing on our growth initiatives,” Silbert wrote.
