Sora Ventures has announced the launch of its dedicated Bitcoin treasury fund, unveiled Friday at Taipei Blockchain Week.

The venture capital firm said the fund is backed by an initial $200 million commitment from partners and investors across the region, with a target of acquiring $1 billion worth of Bitcoin within the next six months.

Asia’s $1B Bitcoin Treasury Fund Aims to Rival U.S. Corporate Adoption

According to the announcement, the fund is designed as a centralized pool of institutional capital, marking a shift from Asia’s earlier Bitcoin treasury efforts, where individual companies accumulated Bitcoin directly on their balance sheets.

Firms such as Japan’s Metaplanet, Hong Kong’s Moon Inc., Thailand’s DV8, and South Korea’s BitPlanet have already taken that route.

Sora’s initiative seeks to support these pioneers while creating synergies between regional and global treasuries, strengthening Bitcoin’s role as a reserve asset.

Luke Liu, a partner at Sora Ventures, described the launch as a milestone. “This is the first time that Asia has seen a commitment of this magnitude toward building a network of Bitcoin treasury firms, with capital commitment towards Asia’s first $1 billion treasury fund,” he said.

Historically, large-scale Bitcoin treasuries have been concentrated in the United States, where corporate adoption was led by firms such as Strategy.

The new fund signals Asia’s bid to position itself as a serious contender in institutional Bitcoin investment. Jason Fang, founder and managing partner of Sora Ventures, said the initiative addresses what he sees as fragmented efforts across the region.

“This is the first time in history that institutional money has come together, from local to regional, and now to a global stage,” Fang said during a panel titled Introducing BTC Strategy into Major Asia Equity Markets.

Sora Ventures has been steadily building its Bitcoin-focused strategy over recent years. In 2024, it invested in Metaplanet, supporting Japan’s first listed Bitcoin treasury with a ¥1 billion ($6.56 million) allocation.

The following year, it acquired Moon Inc. in Hong Kong and DV8 in Thailand and partnered in the acquisition of BitPlanet in South Korea. Each move was intended to replicate and expand Bitcoin-first treasury models across Asia.

The $1 billion fund now formalizes these efforts, offering a framework to attract additional institutional partners and coordinate treasury strategies across markets.

According to Sora, the fund will not only accelerate corporate Bitcoin adoption in Asia but also provide a model that could be extended internationally.

Asian Family Offices and Japanese Firms Ramp Up Crypto Exposure

Wealthy Asian families and their investment vehicles are stepping up crypto allocations, with both private funds and public companies deepening exposure despite recent market volatility.

Singapore’s NextGen Digital Venture recently raised over $100 million for its Next Generation Fund II, a crypto equity vehicle. Founder Jason Huang said family offices and fintech entrepreneurs increasingly see digital assets as a necessary part of diversified portfolios.

Banks are tracking the trend. UBS reported that some Chinese family offices intend to allocate up to 5% of their holdings to crypto, while younger generations are increasingly driving adoption.

Japan is emerging as a corporate hotspot. In August, Tokyo-listed Lib Work unveiled a $3.3 million Bitcoin treasury strategy, citing inflation hedging and overseas growth plans.

Around the same time, Bakkt Holdings acquired 30% of textile maker MarushoHotta for $115 million, moving to rebrand it as “Bitcoin.jp” and shift the 120-year-old firm toward crypto treasury management.

Metaplanet Inc. leads Japan’s corporate push. The company disclosed a new purchase of 1,009 BTC this week, lifting its total to 20,000 BTC worth over $2.1 billion.

Shareholders also approved an overseas share sale of up to $884 million, with most proceeds earmarked for further Bitcoin buys. Metaplanet, once a struggling hotel operator, is now among the top global corporate holders of the cryptocurrency.

Other Tokyo-listed firms joined in August. Remixpoint added 41.5 BTC, bringing reserves to 1,273 BTC. Fashion retailer ANAP acquired 11.68 BTC through its investment arm, while Agile Media Network continued incremental purchases. Def Consulting also announced plans for a treasury program.

At the Bitcoin Asia 2025 conference, Eric Trump added fuel to bullish sentiment, where Eric Trump predicted the cryptocurrency could reach $1 million per coin and described China as “a hell of a power” in the digital asset economy.

Data from BitcoinTreasuries shows Asia’s biggest corporate holders now include Cango Inc. and Bitfufu, holding more than $570 million and $200 million in Bitcoin, respectively.

Korean traders throw away big technology for crypto stocks

Korean investors are moving away from the major American high-tech stocks and investing in high-risk, highly-paid crypto stocks.

A local news agency reported on the issue on August 11, 2025, citing data from the Korea International Finance Centre (KCIF). The report revealed that crypto stocks, which account for 8.5% of South Korea’s top 50 net purchases in January, surged to 36.5% in June and returned to 31.5% in July.

On the other hand, large tech stocks fell sharply in July to $260 million, down 84% from the monthly average of $1.68 billion recorded between January and April.

Ether Stacking Company’s Bitmine stood out as a clear winner in the country’s growing appetite for crypto-related stocks.

A Bloomberg report issued on August 11, 2025 highlighted that Korean retail investors poured $259 million into Bitmine stocks since early July, making it the most frequent foreign security stock purchased that month.

Meanwhile, over the past 30 days, Bitmine has increased Ether Holdings by 410.68%, and currently holds 833,100 ETH, ensuring its position as the world’s largest ether stacker.

May 1st, 2025 – Seoul, Republic of Korea

Global Bitcoin leaders, listed companies, and innovators will gather in Seoul on June 4–6 for Bitcoin Seoul 2025 — Asia’s flagship event shaping Bitcoin’s future.

Bitcoin Seoul 2025, Asia’s largest Bitcoin-focused conference, will take place from June 4 to 6, 2025, at two of Seoul’s most iconic venues: Signiel Seoul and SKY31 Convention.

Following its successful debut in 2024, Bitcoin Seoul quickly established itself as a key fixture in the global Bitcoin conference circuit.

The inaugural event featured leading Bitcoin thinkers such as Saifedean Ammous and Jimmy Song, and attracted thousands of industry professionals and community members to Seoul to exchange insights on Bitcoin’s evolution and future.

Building on this momentum, the 2025 edition promises an expanded scale and a deeper examination of Bitcoin’s global trajectory.

More than just a conference, Bitcoin Seoul 2025 will feature a multidimensional program spanning Bitcoin strategy, regulation, finance, policy, and real-world adoption.

Amid the growing trend of publicly listed companies in Asia and Europe adopting Bitcoin as a treasury asset, executives who have led these initiatives—including from MetaPlanet and The Blockchain Group—will be participating in the event to share first-hand experiences from the corporate frontlines.

Additionally, Dennis Porter, who spearheaded the Bitcoin strategic reserve movement in the United States, will offer insights into Bitcoin’s expanding adoption at the corporate and governmental levels.

Highlighting real-world adoption

El Salvador’s Mi Primer Bitcoin and Bitcoin Beach—trailblazers in national Bitcoin integration—will lead a special session titled “El Salvador Bitcoin Adoption Showcase.”

The event will also welcome Bitcoin community leaders from around the world, including the United States, Australia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Indonesia, who will share firsthand experiences of community-driven Bitcoin adoption across different continents and regions.

The 2025 program will feature:

  • Bitcoin Policy Summit: Seoul Edition — Insights into regulatory trends and Bitcoin-related public policy
  • Bitcoin Finance Forum — addressing institutional investment, Bitcoin treasury management, and macroeconomic perspectives;
  • Global Bitcoin Community Assembly — A global forum for Bitcoin grassroots and community leaders

In addition, attendees will be able to experience live Lightning Network payments at the on-site Lightning Market, showcasing Bitcoin’s real-world utility.

Event Structure:

  • VIP Day (June 4): Exclusive sessions and a private reception for global executives and institutional participants
  • Industry Day (June 5): Focused on enterprise use cases and strategic insights from publicly listed companies and institutional players.
  • Public Day (June 6): Dedicated to Bitcoin finance, adoption stories, and infrastructure innovations, welcoming community members, builders, and enthusiasts.

As institutional interest in Bitcoin accelerates following the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the United States, Bitcoin Seoul 2025 positions Seoul as a key node in the emerging global Bitcoin finance ecosystem.

Countries including South Korea, Japan, and Hong Kong are rapidly integrating Bitcoin-based financial products and treasury strategies — reflecting a broader shift in the global financial landscape. Bitcoin Seoul 2025 aims to capture this momentum and further elevate Seoul’s status as a leading hub for Bitcoin-driven innovation and dialogue.

This year, dozens of domestic and international companies are slated to sponsor the event. Among them is Bithumb, one of Korea’s leading cryptocurrency exchanges, recently ranked #1 in the Korea Exchange Brand Reputation Index, signaling strong market trust.

Ryan, the organizer of Bitcoin Seoul, commented: “Bitcoin Seoul 2025 will unite the global Bitcoin community, extending far beyond Asia to connect innovators worldwide. We are committed to creating a forum that integrates Bitcoin policy, finance, adoption, and community development.”

HK Asia’s holdings to adopt Bitcoin Ministry of Finance first in China https://earlybirdsinvest.com/hk-asias-holdings-to-adopt-bitcoin-ministry-of-finance-first-in-china/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/hk-asias-holdings-to-adopt-bitcoin-ministry-of-finance-first-in-china/#respond Tue, 25 Mar 2025 04:53:00 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/hk-asias-holdings-to-adopt-bitcoin-ministry-of-finance-first-in-china/

HK Asia Holdings (Hkex: 1723) was soon renamed Moon Inc. and made history as the first public company in Great Fahrenheit to adopt the Bitcoin Treasury strategy. In a recent discussion hosted by Allen Helm Bitcoin for businessesnew CEO John Riggins outlined the company’s pivot, regulatory alignment with Hong Kong, and wider momentum buildings across Asia.

Riggins, a longtime Bitcoin advocate with extensive experience in China and Southeast Asia, explained that the move was driven by both a long-term conviction in Hong Kong and a positive change in regulatory stance. He said the company had been consulting with regulators, open market investors and local partners for several months before implementing the transition.

Originally focusing on SIM cards and prepaid high-tech products, HK Asia Holdings is currently aiming to integrate Bitcoin into both its balance sheet assets and its business model. This includes plans to deploy Bitcoin-related offerings through retail footprints, such as ATMs and prepaid Bitcoin products.

The company’s first steps included the acquisition of 8.88 BTC during the post-acquisition period, followed by a purchase of 10 bTC after the leadership transition was finalized. Its total holdings were acquired at 18.88 BTC, exceeding $1.7 million at the time of its announcement. Riggins said it will proceed according to Hong Kong’s measured but transparent regulatory guidance, but further accumulation is planned.

“We see it as a way to protect our balance sheets and a way to diversify it. Our Treasury Department is looking at how the rest of the world is moving,” Riggins said.

Strategic intentions go far beyond speculation. Riggins has assembled Bitcoin as a hedge against macro uncertainty, as a tool for long-term resilience and a bridge to new global financial infrastructure. He also highlighted how the regional corporate committees are beginning to become seriously involved in ideas, pointing to Japan’s metaplanet and US strategy as a compelling precedent.

Although the adoption of Asian companies Bitcoin is still in its early stages, interest is rapidly growing. Riggins highlights South Korea, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia, and it emphasizes it as a market that clarifies the possibility of following. He noted that much of the movement is happening quietly behind the scenes, especially in China.

“I’m more and more filled with messages like government people, people, you know, looking closely for inside information about what’s going on here in this space,” Riggins said.

No formal public moves have been announced by Chinese state entities, but Riggins believes Bitcoin is already held indirectly through government-related organizations, including the state-related investment sector. He suggested that these holdings could be more important than publicly known. As the US moves towards a strategic Bitcoin reserve, he sees China closely and potentially following if global policy momentum continues to change.

Moon plans to expand Bitcoin Holding within Hong Kong’s regulatory framework and serve as a model for other Asian companies exploring similar strategies. The company co-hosted Bitcoin Asia in Hong Kong this August, establishing its position as a regional pioneer and helping to promote the recruitment of a wider range of companies across Asia.
