Malicious actors in the cryptocurrency space remain a constant threat to the sector and are not moved by market conditions as they strike during bull and bearish market conditions. Within the last 24 hours, Uniswap V4’s Bunni decentralized exchange (DEX) has been attacked by hackers.

Hackers exploit Bunni DEX vulnerability

According to an update from PeckShieldAlert, a blockchain security firm that monitors the crypto space, hackers have exploited a vulnerability on Bunni DEX. This has led to the hackers stealing approximately $2.4 million worth of assets.

Critical details of who the attackers could be and the different crypto assets stolen have not been revealed. However, the theft, occurring in the midst of an ongoing bull market, is poised to affect investors who use the exchange.

As of press time, a message from Bunni on their official X handle acknowledged the “security exploit” and precautionary measures taken so far. According to the DEX, their team is currently investigating the incident and will provide details as soon as investigations are concluded.

It has, however, paused all smart contract functions on all networks while this is ongoing. Bunni has called for patience on the part of its users.

Are there security concerns over Uniswap V4 ecosystem?

The compromise on Bunni DEX by these hackers reemphasizes the need for exchanges to pay attention to safeguarding funds on their platform. This suggests that malicious actors are always scanning the crypto space and attempting to steal. Failure to secure protocols could lead to loss of funds.

Scammers Spoof Wells Fargo Phone Number To Steal $5,800 After Fake ‘Best Buy’ Purchase Alert: Report https://earlybirdsinvest.com/scammers-spoof-wells-fargo-phone-number-to-steal-5800-after-fake-best-buy-purchase-alert-report/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/scammers-spoof-wells-fargo-phone-number-to-steal-5800-after-fake-best-buy-purchase-alert-report/#respond Thu, 07 Aug 2025 10:40:53 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/scammers-spoof-wells-fargo-phone-number-to-steal-5800-after-fake-best-buy-purchase-alert-report/

An equestrian coach reportedly lost thousands after falling victim to a spoofing scam that offered to protect her bank account from fraud.

NBC 7 in San Diego reports that in June, Alixe Garcia received a text asking her if she authorized a large purchase at Best Buy.

Garcia received a call after texting back “no”.  She says she trusted the call the moment she answered the phone because the caller ID showed it was from a Wells Fargo customer service number.

Garcia says that during the 41-minute call, it sounded as if she was talking with someone who was able to view her accounts. She ended up transferring $5,700 to Apple Cash, believing that the money would be deposited into her new Wells Fargo account that the caller supposedly helped her create.

Thirty minutes later, when she logged in, the money was not there.

“I waited another 30 minutes. I’m, like, ‘Maybe it’s a little slow.’ No money. Then I was just, like, sick thinking about it.”

She called the bank the next morning, but the agent told her that the person she was talking to was not from the bank.

Her money is also gone. Wells Fargo says that its security controls were functioning as intended, and Garcia ultimately authorized the transfers.

The bank warns consumers that if they get a similar call asking them to send a payment, transfer funds or send their physical cards to stop fraud in their account, they should immediately hang up and call their bank directly.

“Safeguarding our customers’ assets is our top priority, and we are actively working to raise awareness of common scams through various resources and ongoing education. We have robust security measures in place and conduct thorough investigations of fraud and scam reports before making claim decisions.”

XRP price has broken $2.80 as optimism around ETFs grows. The market is watching three key dates, July 14, 21, and 25, which could open up institutional access to XRP. The coin is up 7% in the last 24 hours on ETF speculation and broader crypto strength.

It all started when ProShares announced they would be launching three XRP futures ETFs—Ultra XRP, UltraShort XRP, and Short XRP—on July 14. These products will allow both bulls and bears to get leveraged exposure to Ripple.

ProShares had delayed these in April, but the SEC’s acknowledgement of the filings has brought back investor confidence. If approved, these funds will allow institutions to hedge or speculate on XRP more efficiently.

  • ETF Launch Date: July 14 (ProShares Futures ETFs)
  • Product Types: Long & Short Leverage
  • Market Impact: Higher liquidity, more institutional activity

The futures strategy could also be a stepping stone for spot ETFs, similar to Bitcoin’s regulatory path in the US.

Leveraged Products on July 21

Momentum could accelerate on July 21 when Volatility Shares and Tuttle Capital launch 2X leveraged XRP ETFs. These products amplify daily returns—perfect for active traders looking to trade Ripple volatility.

Both have completed regulatory steps, so there is a high probability of launch. If these ETFs go live, it will be the first time XRP has had multiple leveraged products in the US, which could increase volume and short-term price action.

  • ETF Launch Date: July 21
  • Providers: Volatility Shares, Tuttle Capital
  • Product: 2X Leveraged Long XRP ETFs
  • Implication: More trading volume, volatility-driven opportunities

These products will attract momentum traders and algorithmic funds that previously avoided XRP due to regulatory uncertainty.

Spot XRP ETF Decision on July 25

The biggest news comes on July 25, when the SEC is expected to rule on the REX-Osprey Spot XRP ETF. Unlike futures ETFs, this will hold XRP directly, providing institutions with a regulated way to gain exposure without owning the asset itself.

With court decisions going in Ripple’s favor and pressure mounting on the SEC to modernize its crypto approach, analysts think approval is getting more likely.

If approved, this would not only be a green light but could open the door for other issuers like Bitwise and 21Shares to follow.

  • Decision Date: July 25
  • ETF Type: Spot XRP ETF
  • Issuer: REX Shares / Osprey
  • Market Outlook: Institutional FOMO, new highs

A spot ETF approval could be the catalyst, unlocking billions in capital and solidifying XRP’s top 10 status.

XRP Chart Outlook: Overbought but Bullish

From a technical standpoint, XRP price prediction continues to stay bullish as it is consolidating at $2.81 after a parabolic move above a rising channel. The price cleared the $2.695 resistance zone, which is now support.

However, a Shooting Star on the 4-hour chart suggests possible exhaustion, particularly given the RSI’s position above 79, which is profound in overbought territory.

Trade Setup:

  • Buy Zone: $2.695–$2.62 (on dip)
  • Stop Loss: $2.48
  • Targets: $2.97 short term, $3.14–$3.31 next resistance
  • Watch for: Bullish engulfing or hammer candle

Volume is tapering off, so patience is required. A dip would be a better entry.

With ETFs dominating the July narrative, XRP could be entering a significant chapter. Now it’s all eyes on the regulators, and if approvals align, XRP may retest all-time highs.

Bitcoin price started a fresh increase above the $108,500 zone. BTC is now up over 3% and showing positive signs above the $110,000 level.

  • Bitcoin started a fresh increase above the $108,500 zone.
  • The price is trading above $110,500 and the 100 hourly Simple moving average.
  • There was a break above a bearish trend line with resistance at $108,800 on the hourly chart of the BTC/USD pair (data feed from Kraken).
  • The pair could continue to rise if it clears the $112,000 resistance zone.

Bitcoin Price Eyes More Gains

Bitcoin price started a fresh increase after it cleared the $108,500 resistance zone. BTC gained pace for a move above the $108,800 and $109,500 resistance.

Besides, there was a break above a bearish trend line with resistance at $108,800 on the hourly chart of the BTC/USD pair. The bulls even pumped the pair above the $110,000 resistance zone. It opened the doors for a move toward the $112,000 level.

A high was formed at $112,000 and the price is now consolidating gains. It tested the 23.6% Fib retracement level of the upward move from the $107,500 swing low to the $112,000 high.

Bitcoin is now trading above $109,500 and the 100 hourly Simple moving average. Immediate resistance on the upside is near the $111,600 level. The first key resistance is near the $112,000 level. The next resistance could be $112,500.

A close above the $112,500 resistance might send the price further higher. In the stated case, the price could rise and test the $115,000 resistance level. Any more gains might send the price toward the $116,000 level. The main target could be $118,000.

Downside Correction In BTC?

If Bitcoin fails to rise above the $112,000 resistance zone, it could start a downside correction. Immediate support is near the $110,800 level. The first major support is near the $109,750 level or the 50% Fib retracement level of the upward move from the $107,500 swing low to the $112,000 high.

The next support is now near the $109,200 zone. Any more losses might send the price toward the $108,500 support in the near term. The main support sits at $107,500, below which BTC might continue to move down.

Technical indicators:

Hourly MACD – The MACD is now gaining pace in the bullish zone.

Hourly RSI (Relative Strength Index) – The RSI for BTC/USD is now above the 50 level.

Major Support Levels – $110,800, followed by $109,750.

Crypto trader and analyst Ali Martinez is warning that Bitcoin (BTC) could undergo a significant correction amid a bearish signal from a reliable indicator.

Martinez tells his 139,100 followers on the social media platform X that the Tom DeMark (TD) Sequential indicator is suggesting that Bitcoin could fall by over 63% from the current level.

The TD sequential indicator is a technical analysis tool used to determine potential trend and price reversal points.

This one indicator has predicted every major Bitcoin crash and it just flashed again. The Tom DeMark Sequential just gave a quarterly sell signal. This is a rare warning that has historically preceded brutal drawdowns.

Back in 2015, the same signal appeared and Bitcoin dropped 75% after. Then in 2018, same setup, same outcome – Bitcoin plunged over 85%.

Now it is flashing again. If this plays out like before, Bitcoin could drop below $40,000.”

Source: Ali Martinez/X

Bitcoin is trading at $107,850 at time of writing.

Citing data from the blockchain analytics platform IntoTheBlock, Martinez says that between May 22nd and June 29th, the number of Bitcoin transactions valued at more than $100,000 has fallen from 30,840 to 16,860, a drop of around 45%.

The crypto trader and analyst also cites data from crypto analytics firm CryptoQuant suggesting that buyer interest for Bitcoin over 30 days has plummeted by 36,988 BTC.

“Apparent demand for Bitcoin has dropped to -37,000 BTC, signaling a sharp decline in buying interest!”

Android 16 will alert users to possible Stingray surveillance, fake cell towers https://earlybirdsinvest.com/android-16-will-alert-users-to-possible-stingray-surveillance-fake-cell-towers/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/android-16-will-alert-users-to-possible-stingray-surveillance-fake-cell-towers/#respond Sun, 29 Jun 2025 09:10:13 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/android-16-will-alert-users-to-possible-stingray-surveillance-fake-cell-towers/

Why it matters: As Android 16’s new security features roll out with the next generation of smartphones, users will, for the first time, have a tool to detect invisible digital surveillance. Whether this prompts broader reforms in how such technology is used and regulated remains to be seen. Still, the feature reflects a growing awareness of the need to protect personal privacy in the mobile age.

An upcoming Android update will introduce a warning system to help users detect one of the most elusive forms of digital surveillance: the Stingray attack. Android Authority notes that as part of the Android 16 rollout, select new devices will alert users when their phone connects to a suspicious or insecure mobile network.

Android 16 will introduce a new “Mobile network security” setting that alerts users when their device connects to an unencrypted network or when a network requests device identifiers – both signs of a possible Stingray attack. Users can also disable 2G support entirely, further lowering their risk.

Stingray devices imitate legitimate cell towers, tricking nearby phones into connecting to them instead of real networks. Once connected, operators can capture unique device identifiers like the International Mobile Subscriber Identity (IMSI) or International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), track a device’s location, and even force phones onto older, less secure protocols like 2G.

The underlying technology exploits a fundamental principle of cellular communication: mobile devices automatically connect to the tower with the strongest signal. By broadcasting a powerful signal, Stingrays lure all nearby phones to connect, harvesting identifiers from every device within range – not just the intended target.

Often, operators don’t initially know which device belongs to their target, so the Stingray collects data from all connected phones and then filters it to identify the intended one. More advanced models can intercept calls and messages or launch denial-of-service attacks by jamming legitimate signals.

Law enforcement agencies across the U.S. have used Stingrays for years, often under strict secrecy. Federal, state, and local police have deployed these devices in investigations ranging from violent crimes to minor thefts, with some departments using them thousands of times over the past decade. More recently, threat actors have begun using the devices as well.

Until now, most smartphone users had little ability to detect or defend against these attacks. Google has gradually added features to improve network security, such as disabling 2G connectivity and blocking unencrypted communication. However, hardware constraints limited these protections. Detecting Stingray activity requires a phone modem that supports advanced features – specifically, version 3.0 of Android’s IRadio hardware abstraction layer. As a result, even the latest Pixel phones don’t yet support the full range of protections. The new warning system in Android 16 will only arrive on upcoming devices – most notably, those launching with Android 16 later this year.

A recent data breach has exposed over 16 billion login credentials from online platforms, including Apple, Google, Facebook, Telegram, and GitHub.

The Cybernews research team, which uncovered the leak, described it as one of the largest credential dumps ever recorded, with serious implications for online users, crypto security, and digital asset management.

16B Login Records Leaked in Alarming Wave of Fresh Malware-Based Breaches

According to researchers, the breach is not a single incident but a combination of datasets collected from infostealer malware, credential stuffing attacks, and previously unreported leaks.

Some of these datasets contained up to 3.5 billion entries on their own, with the average dataset holding around 550 million records. The researchers have been tracking the data since early 2024, uncovering at least 30 exposed sets, many of them never publicly disclosed before.

“This is not just a leak—it’s a blueprint for mass exploitation,” the Cybernews team stated.

“With over 16 billion login records exposed, cybercriminals now have unprecedented access to personal credentials that can be used for account takeover, identity theft, and highly targeted phishing,” they added.

The structure and recency of the data make the breach especially dangerous. Unlike older, recycled leaks, much of this data was harvested recently by modern info-stealing malware, posing an urgent crypto security threat to users.

The data typically includes login details organized by URL, along with associated usernames, passwords, cookies, and even tokens.

Some datasets point to specific services, such as Telegram, which was linked to a 60 million record dump.

Another, allegedly tied to the Russian Federation, held more than 455 million records. A number of entries also appear related to cloud services, government portals, and business accounts.

Most of the data was found in unsecured Elasticsearch databases and object storage instances. Though these were exposed for only a short period, it was long enough for researchers to copy the contents.

The origin of the datasets remains unclear, but experts believe that at least some were compiled by criminal actors.

Massive Credential Leaks cRaise Alarm for Crypto Users Amid Dark Web Sales

At this scale, credential leaks are a direct threat to crypto security. Attackers can deploy phishing scams, ransomware, business email compromise tactics, and unauthorized access to crypto wallets and trading platforms.

Users without multi-factor authentication (MFA) are especially vulnerable.

“The inclusion of both old and recent infostealer logs—often with tokens, cookies, and metadata—makes this data particularly dangerous for organizations lacking multi-factor authentication or credential hygiene practices,” researchers added.

While the full number of people affected is impossible to determine due to overlapping records, the scale means even a small success rate could translate into millions of compromised accounts.

Crypto users, in particular, are advised to act quickly. Since wallet services and exchanges often rely on credentials linked to mainstream email providers or cloud services, any breach could lead directly to asset theft.

Cybernews stressed the importance of basic cyber hygiene. Users should change passwords immediately, turn on MFA wherever possible, and scan their devices for malware.

“There’s little impact users can have on the existence of these leaks,” the research team noted, “but staying proactive with your own security remains the best defense.”

At the time of reporting, no single actor has claimed responsibility for the leaked databases.

But with new datasets emerging every few weeks, researchers say this reflects a growing trend of sophisticated infostealer operations that threaten the entire crypto security ecosystem.

For now, the leak stands as a stark reminder of how exposed digital life can be and how quickly stolen credentials can turn into real-world consequences.

This reminder can be corroborated with the recent incident of threat actors on the dark web allegedly selling personal data from users of major crypto exchanges Gemini and Binance, according to a March 27 report by cyber threat tracker Dark Web Informer.

A threat actor known as “AKM69” is claiming to offer 100,000 Gemini records, including names, emails, phone numbers, and location data, mostly from the U.S., U.K., and Singapore.

Another seller, “kiki88888,” listed 132,000 alleged Binance user records, though the source appears to be infostealer malware, not an exchange breach.

Though there’s no confirmed breach of the exchanges themselves, the incident shows the evolving threat to crypto security, with stolen credentials often repurposed for phishing, fraud, and wallet recovery scams.

Badiss Mohamed Amide Bajjou, a 24-year-old man believed to be involved in a series of crypto-related kidnappings in France, has been arrested in Morocco.

According to a June 4 report by Le Parisien, Bajjou, a dual citizen of France and Morocco, was taken into custody by Moroccan authorities following a request from French officials.

The arrest was made with the help of the country’s intelligence service. Police reportedly found him with several mobile phones and bladed weapons.

Bajjou has been under international investigation since 2023. Interpol issued a red notice against him by accusing him of being involved in organized extortion and kidnapping cases.

French officials claimed he played a major role in recent attacks targeting individuals linked to the crypto industry, including a January incident involving Ledger co-founder David Balland.

The case gained further attention in May when French police arrested 12 people connected to two attempted kidnappings. One of those attacks reportedly targeted the daughter of Pierre Noizat, co-founder of the French crypto exchange Paymium.

Just days after the raid, French prosecutors charged a total of 25 people. Many of them were between the ages of 16 and 23.

Following Bajjou’s arrest, French Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin said in a translated post on X:

I sincerely thank Morocco for this arrest, which demonstrates the excellent judicial cooperation between our two countries, particularly against organized crime.

Even with Bajjou in custody, investigators believe another suspect could be involved. Reports suggest this second French-Moroccan national was identified through blockchain tracking tools and may have been overseeing operations from behind the scenes.

On May 28, Vietnamese police arrested five individuals accused of operating Matrix Chain, a crypto scam that defrauded over 185,000 users of nearly $394 million. How did the case unfold? Read the full story.

Cryptocurrency analyst Benjamin Cowen is saying that Bitcoin (BTC) could be on the verge of a pullback after soaring to new all-time highs.

In a new strategy session, Cowen tells his 898,000 YouTube subscribers that Bitcoin is on the cusp of forming a golden cross pattern on the daily time frame.

A golden cross pattern occurs when a 50-day moving average crosses above the 200-day moving average. Cowen says that while the golden cross pattern is typically bullish, it has previously led to Bitcoin “dumps” in the past.

“My prior experiences with golden crosses influenced me to think that with a golden cross, you get a correction. We had a correction after the golden cross in 2019, we had one in 2020. We had also had one in 2021… …we also had one after a golden cross in 2015 and that was a much deeper correction.”

According to Cowen, Bitcoin could experience a correction of double-digit percentage points after the golden cross pattern forms.

“Looking at prior golden crosses… …just noticing that a lot of times you get a golden cross, you get about a 10 to 15% drop.”

The widely followed crypto analyst further says,

“So my prior experiences with golden crosses with Bitcoin in 2023 had always told me that you rally up by the time you get to the point where you get a golden cross price action has already done very very well, people tend to get euphoric, they start calling for crazier and crazier price predictions in the short term. And then what ends up happening is then Bitcoin gets a pullback. And it keeps those people in check. And it’s just sort of a way of the market… calming down for a little while.”

Bitcoin is trading at $110,911 at time of writing.

Tech titan Google is warning US retailers about cybersecurity attacks after hackers disrupted UK businesses.

John Hultquist, an analyst at Google’s cybersecurity arm, says that US retailers are now facing cyberattacks involving ransomware and extortion tactics, similar to what UK businesses have just been contending with.

“Shields up US retailers. They’re here.”

Hultquist says the hackers are likely connected to a group known as Scattered Spider, or UNC3944.

Says Google in a blog post,

“Recent public reporting has suggested that threat actors used tactics consistent with Scattered Spider to target a UK retail organization and deploy DragonForce ransomware. Subsequent reporting by BBC News indicates that actors associated with DragonForce claimed responsibility for attempted attacks at multiple UK retailers.”

According to Google, Scattered Spider initially targeted telecommunications-related companies to engage in SIM swap scams but has since expanded its tactics.

“After shifting to ransomware and data theft extortion in early 2023, they impacted organizations in a broader range of industries. Since then, we have regularly observed UNC3944 conduct waves of targeting against a specific sector, such as financial services organizations in late 2023 and food services in May 2024. Notably, UNC3944 has also previously targeted prominent brands, possibly in an attempt to gain prestige and increased attention by news media.”
