AirPods Max vs Beats Studio Pro

If you’re looking for noise-cancelling over-ear headphones, you can get the AirPods Max for $429, a cool savings of $120. But I recommend grabbing a pair of Beats Studio Pro for $170 instead. Not only are they cheaper, but you get many of the same features, better battery life, and a lighter design. AirPods Max are nice, but they haven’t been updated in a meaningful way since their 2020 debut.

This M4 MacBook Air is a steal

This isn’t technically a Prime Day sale since it’s been at this price for about a week, but the MacBook Air for $849 is an incredible price for a near-perfect laptop. This model with 16GB of RAM would have cost you $1,299 at the Apple Store just a year ago, and now it has a faster chip and a better webcam. There’s no better mainstream laptop you can get for this price.

The iPad Air is cheaper than ever

We’re used to the iPad Air being on sale, but it’s never been this cheap. The M3 iPad Air, which was released in March, is $120 off in all sizes, storage options, and colors, the first time it’s ever been under $500. We’ll admit that there isn’t much new from the M2 model, but it’s still the sweet spot for nearly every iPad user: Cheaper than the Pro, bigger than the mini, and perfect in every way.

Save $25 on this incredible HomeKit power strip

This Eve Smart Triple Outlet & Power Meter normally costs $100, but today it’s down to $75, an all-time-low. It’s basically the Cadillac of power strips, with three generously spaced power outlets controlled by Siri, easy scheduling, surge protection, overcurrent protection, and overvoltage protection, and the ability to track each outlet’s total power consumption and learn the projected cost so you can shut down anything that’s costing you money. Plus its sleek design looks so great you’ll want to keep it on your desk.

These awesome AirPods Pro foam tips are just $20

These tiny foam tips will help your AirPods Pro stay in your ears for just $20 today. They’re nothing short of life-changing if you have issues, like me, with getting the right fit for Apple’s silicone tips. They very rarely go on sale, so go grab a pair.

Get 4TB of storage for just $265

Need more storage for your Mac? This Samsung drive deal is bonkers, adding 4TB to your Mac or MacBook for $266, a ridiculous savings of $284. It’s tiny enough to take anywhere and fast enough to store anything. Want perspective on how good of a value this is: Apple charges $1,200 to add 4TB to the Mac Studio!

This smart kettle is at an all-time low

If you’re a coffee or tea connoisseur, I can’t recommend this Govee Smart Electric Kettle enough. Down to $54, an all-time low and $10 cheaper than the $64 I paid, it’ll keep your water at a precise temperature, start on a schedule, and shut down instantly, all with your iPhone. Plus its matte-black design will look great on your counter.

Apple dual-port USB-C charger for $20 off

Dual-port USB-C chargers are indispensible and Apple’s is one of the best out there. At $59, it’s a little too high to recommend, but it’s down to $39 right now. Overnights, vacations, wherever you go it’ll keep your devices charged—and you won’t even notice it’s in your bag. Even if you already have one, it can’t hurt to snag a second.

AirPods 4 for $60 off

AirPods 4 with ANC are a fantastic affordable alternative to AirPods Pro, but this deal has us doing a double-take. Amazon knocked them down to just $119 on the first day of Prime Day, a straight-up ridiculous savings of $60. I can’t recommend a better pair of earbuds with active noise cancellation at this price range so go grab a pair.

AirTags are just $17 each

Apple’s AirTags are probably its most underrated product and have saved me from losing my keys more times than I want to remember. Normally $99 for a 4-pack, which is a great price already, you can get them during Prime Day for $68, just $17 per AirTag. You’ll need a keyring holder to attach them to your keys, but they’re cheap too.

We know, AirPods Pro 2 are always on sale at Amazon. But they’ve never ever been this low. Amazon is selling the AirPods Pro 2 for just $150, an insane price for a really great set of earbuds. It’s so good, I’m tempted to buy a second pair just to have as a spare.

All-time-low on the black Apple Watch Ultra 2

You can get deals on the Series 10, but the best Apple Watch bargain I’ve found so far is this Apple Watch Ultra 2 for $150 off. This watch has everything you could want, including cellular, and if I didn’t already have an Apple Watch, this is definitely the model I’d buy.

Logitech quietly raises prices on popular PC accessories by up to 25% after tariffs https://earlybirdsinvest.com/logitech-quietly-raises-prices-on-popular-pc-accessories-by-up-to-25-after-tariffs/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/logitech-quietly-raises-prices-on-popular-pc-accessories-by-up-to-25-after-tariffs/#respond Tue, 22 Apr 2025 04:54:13 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/logitech-quietly-raises-prices-on-popular-pc-accessories-by-up-to-25-after-tariffs/

What just happened? Industry watchers have been closely monitoring signs of rising prices in consumer technology. Thanks to research by YouTuber Cameron Dougherty, we now have clear evidence of price increases in popular PC accessories. Dougherty has done the legwork by analyzing a broad range of Logitech products, reporting price hikes of up to 25 percent on some of the company’s most sought-after keyboards and mice, among other items.

In his video, Dougherty raises questions about the impact of ongoing tariffs and the future affordability of tech gear in the United States. Flagship products such as the Logitech MX Master 3S mouse and the K400 Plus Wireless Touch Keyboard were among those affected. The latter increased in price from $27.99 to $34.99 – a modest $7 jump that nonetheless represents a significant 25 percent rise.

Dougherty’s findings also note that while some products have become more expensive, others have remained stable or even dropped in price. For instance, the G Pro X Superlight mouse dropped from $159.99 to $149.99.

To verify these claims, Tom’s Hardware conducted its own investigation and corroborated several of Dougherty’s observations. For example, the MX Keys S keyboard is now listed at $130 on Logitech’s official website, reflecting an 18 percent increase. The MX Master 3S mouse has climbed 20 percent, from $100 to $120. The K400 Plus Wireless Touch keyboard’s price hike, though smaller in absolute terms, stands out for its percentage jump.

Notably, these increases have not been accompanied by any public announcement from Logitech. Some items have appeared on sale at major retailers like Amazon, but the discounted prices are still higher than historical norms, suggesting a new baseline has been established.

The reasons behind these changes are complex but appear to be closely tied to the turbulent tariff environment. The Trump administration’s tariffs on imported goods, especially those from China, have sent ripples through the tech industry.

Many manufacturers, including Logitech, rely heavily on Chinese production, leaving them particularly vulnerable to these policy shifts. Earlier this month, Logitech withdrew its financial forecast for the upcoming fiscal year, explicitly citing ongoing uncertainty around tariffs as a driving factor.

While some tariffs have been temporarily paused, those on Chinese imports remain steep, forcing companies to navigate a landscape of unpredictable costs and supply chain disruptions.

Logitech is not alone in adjusting its pricing. Other brands, such as accessory maker Anker which is based in China, have also raised prices on products like chargers, with reported increases of around 18 percent.

Industry experts caution that these adjustments may not be the last, as manufacturers continue to adapt to evolving trade policies and the potential for further escalation in the U.S.-China trade dispute.

Best AirTag Cases & Holders 2025: Brilliant Accessories https://earlybirdsinvest.com/best-airtag-cases-holders-2025-brilliant-accessories/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/best-airtag-cases-holders-2025-brilliant-accessories/#respond Wed, 09 Apr 2025 04:13:07 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/best-airtag-cases-holders-2025-brilliant-accessories/

Here at Macworld we’re extremely fond of Apple’s AirTag, which we consider by far the best Bluetooth tracker for an iPhone or Mac user. However, one complaint raised in our AirTag review was that it doesn’t have an attachment (or keyring) hole, which means you’re forced in most situations to buy an accessory to put it in.

Want to attach it to your keys? You need to buy a special key ring. Want to attach it to your luggage? Special luggage label. An ecosystem has quickly sprung up offering straps, loops, pet tags, cases and holders for AirTag owners.

But which ones are worth buying? We’ve been testing out all the AirTags accessories we can get our hands on, so we can help you find the best AirTag holder for your needs from key rings, luggage tags, wallets and more. We have also included a growing list of trackers and accessories that might not be AirTags themselves but work seemlessly with Apple’s Find My app and ecosystem

Best AirTag Key Rings

Apple AirTag FineWoven Key Ring

There are cheaper alternatives, but this is the classic AirTag key ring—replacing the previous Apple Leather Key Ring, now that Apple has gone fully vegan in honor of its legendary co-founder Steve Jobs. It’s light, attractive and reassuringly well-made. It’s easy to put the AirTag inside, but the metal popper won’t let it escape. And we love the large, chunky (but quite flat) ring, although we’d recommend testing it out in a shop if you’re planning on attaching car keys with a small aperture. This reviewer’s Nissan and Skoda keys were both a tight fit.

The fabric covering protects the AirTag’s edge from drop damage but leaves most of its chassis, both front and back, open to the elements and liable to scuff a little—a complaint publicly made about Apple’s FineWoven iPhone cases. We think this is worth it for the pleasing look, and scuffing is both inevitable and minor, but if you want total protection you’ll need to look elsewhere.

It’s available in five colors: Black, Deep Blue, Blackberry, Dark Green and Chartreuse–David Price

Belkin’s Secure Holder is made of hard plastic, which gives it more of a budget feel, but it’s reassuringly robust, and looks tough with its wire cable that includes a hex key to lock the AirTag in place.

As with Apple’s key ring, both faces of the AirTag are left exposed, but the plastic surround sticks out more and thus provides more drop protection. It’s available in white or black.–David Price

OtterBox Rugged Case for AirTag

Although it now looks to be discontinued you can still find Apple’s fine AirTag Loop on sale. It is made of polyurethane and feels and looks smart, with two of the color options (Electric Orange and Sunflower) particularly bright and cheerful. This will also help you to spot your suitcase on the conveyor belt.

The AirTag clips in using a metal clasp that’s easy to use and secure; you then put the strap around your luggage’s handle and loop the head part back through the slit in the tail. It looks slightly delicate at first glance–the strap gets quite thin at a certain point–but proved resistant to moderate tugging and should be fine under non-military usage conditions. Journey REEVUS – Insulated bottle iPhone stand and tracker

Pros

  • Works with Apple Find My

Price When Reviewed:

$89.99

With this multi-purpose Apple Find My friendly gadget you should never lose your bottle again as it includes a rechargeable tracker in its clever lid that means can you can track its live location on your iPhone. You’ll get out-of-range alerts, and can easily locate the bottle when nearby as it has a built-in 100dB speaker.

That lid is smarter than just a tracker as the hinged carry loop includes a MagSafe magnet that will hold your iPhone (12 and later) even when the bottle isn’t full—which is great as a secure camera tripod, gimbal or phone stand. It’s one of the best water bottle carry loops we have tested, and all its extra features really are bonuses.

The chic soft-touch matte-finish stainless Steel bottle itself holds up to 23.67 fluid ounces (700ml), and will keep your drink cold (24 hours) or hot (12 hours) with its double-walled vacuum insulated interior.

The tracker works with Find My on an iPhone but isn’t an AirTag. Its battery should last 120 days before needing a wireless recharge that takes just an hour.

Lighters are easy to leave behind or lend to someone and forget to ask for it back. One solution is to hide an AirTag inside the lighter so you can track it down and get it back when this happens.

This refillable lighter, crafted like the company’s iPhone cases, from military-grade aramid fiber and premium zinc alloy, looks like a card case rather than a cheap off-the-shelf lighter. Pitaka claims that the lighter’s blue pyramid-shaped flame is unaffected by wind, and that it features a built-in gravity lock pin to ensures that it can’t create a flame when upside down.

If the Apple AirTag is just not right for you, check out these Bluetooth tracker recommended AirTag alternatives.

What you can expect in an AirTag case

Because the AirTag comes in a single variety, you don’t need to choose which kind to acquire. Apple sells them singly ($29) and in a four-pack ($99). Engraving is free.

An AirTag regularly broadcasts 2.4GHz Bluetooth signals with an encrypted device ID for other Apple devices to pick up and relay along with those devices’ locations. The 2.4GHz band penetrates solid objects well, but case designers need to be mindful of materials that have the potential to block the signal. In our survey of AirTag cases, we didn’t find a case so far that had that design problem.

AirTags also use ultrawideband (USB) technology for Precision Finding, exclusive to Apple’s own Find My items. Precision Finding lets an iPhone with UWB identify the direction and distance within inches when it’s within about 15 to 30 feet (4.5 to 9 m).

Consider to what use you may put an AirTag to determine the features you want:

  • Purpose: Cases exist in enough variety that you can find one designed as a luggage tag, another as a stylish keyring, and another to resist enormous amounts of damage. Figure out where you want to put the AirTag and match the case to it.
  • Water resistance: Many cases feature some degree of water resistance, some using the IP rating that defines precisely how much. If you’re using an AirTag outside or on a pet’s collar, you may want one with a high degree of resistance. When attaching to a bag or keyring, it may seem less important or not important at all.
  • Ring, clip, loop, or carabiner: Case makers offer many variants on attachments. Some include a simple hole to attach a keychain, while others incorporate a keychain as part of the product and may include a keyring. You can purchase multiple cases built into a carabiner, including one with a three-digit combination lock. You can also get a string or similar loop design, in which the case passes through a loop and pulls tight on a handle without a knot.
  • Removable or adhesive: You might want an AirTag case that’s easy to move about or attach and reattach. Other cases include adhesive for semi-permanent fixed attachment.
  • Hidden for theft recovery: Some cases are designed to hide an AirTag, making its presence less apparent and thus less likely to be discovered if stolen; others are obvious, such as in a keychain or luggage tag. Temper hideability with the knowledge that Apple’s anti-stalking features built into AirTag tech makes them discoverable to criminals with a smartphone.Shows the front: Conversely, some cases show off an AirTag, revealing its front where you might have had added custom engraving from Apple with an emoji or text. You might want to see that engraving to differentiate among AirTags you own.
  • Cost: Cases generally cost from about $20 to $35—around the price of a single AirTag. However, there are outliers below $10 and above $40. It’s all about the function, ruggedness, and complexity of purpose. Some charge extra for style.

How we test AirTag case features

For each kind of case, we rated them based on specific features around which they were designed. These include:

  • Easy to insert the AirTag for secure retention: Every case has a slightly different approach to getting an AirTag inside. Some cases have an elaborate locking procedure or require removing and restoring four tiny screws to preserve a waterproof seal. Others are simple as sliding the tag into a holding or popping it into a rubber ring.
  • Attaches securely for attachable cases: We tested cases that market themselves as attachable at how well they succeed at that task. Cases may come with or be part of a keyring, carabiner, wrist strip, or pet collar, or may have an adhesive to stick on to objects, like the inside of luggage.
  • Access for battery replacement: Apple expects an AirTag battery to last for about a year in everyday usage, which it defines as one case of Precision Finding and four tones played per day. A case should allow access that isn’t maddening for replacing the battery every several months to a year.
  • Robust against bumps and bangs: Only a few kinds of cases can avoid the wear and tear of bumping against other objects. Most need to be constructed with that in mind. For cases exposed to other surfaces, we look at whether the materials and build quality give confidence in them provide lasting value.
  • Blocks access to remove: A handful of cases provide a security element intended to prevent access to an AirTag without excessive force—the AirTag would have to be destroyed to remove it. We rate these cases on whether they seem able to prevent or deter everything but destruction.

We need more accessories like the new Backbone One: Xbox Edition https://earlybirdsinvest.com/we-need-more-accessories-like-the-new-backbone-one-xbox-edition/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/we-need-more-accessories-like-the-new-backbone-one-xbox-edition/#respond Sun, 30 Mar 2025 11:26:29 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/we-need-more-accessories-like-the-new-backbone-one-xbox-edition/

Let’s just get this out of the way — there are so many mobile controllers at your disposal that we probably don’t actually need anymore. Especially if it’s just a one-off or one with a different color compared to what was originally released.

That being said, an exception should be made for controllers and other peripherals that hit that nostalgia bone in the right way. Such is the case with the Backbone One: Xbox Edition, which came as a surprise announcement on a random Thursday in March.

The Backbone One was originally launched all the way back in 2020. Then, an updated iteration landed in 2023, implementing a few improvements while also arriving after Apple made the switch from Lightning to USB-C and introducing the PlayStation Edition.

Fast forward to 2025, and there’s now an Xbox Edition, but it doesn’t just slap lipstick on and call itself a by different name. Backbone worked with Microsoft to bring us a controller with the same Translucent Green color scheme as the original Halo Special Edition Xbox. And it looks simply incredible.

While the PlayStation Edition ditches the ABXY buttons to match up with the shapes on the DualSense controller, you won’t find a dedicated PlayStation button. On this latest iteration, the “Capture” button has been (somewhat) surprisingly replaced by an Xbox logo. I say somewhat because I can only assume that this was probably one of Microsoft’s requirements before signing off on such a collaboration.

It would’ve been awesome to have the original Xbox logo, but let’s be honest; it’s not like there’s really much real estate to work with here. Plus, who cares?!? I seriously haven’t been this excited about a controller since Nintendo started releasing modern versions of its classic controllers.

While my excitement levels are off the charts, Backbone isn’t the only company working with Microsoft on similar collaborations. Earlier this year, 8Bitdo released the Retro 87 keyboard and Retro R8 Mouse, both of which are also equipped with the same Translucent Green shell from the original Xbox.

8Bitdo also added a bit of extra flair, as the directional keys are translucent and aim to match up with the ABXY colors from the Duke. Now, I want to see what other accessory makers can come up with, provided that devices or accessories are created with some guidance from Microsoft.

That last little bit is important, as it’s not like the idea of attempting to invoke nostalgia is new. Far from it. However, most of the time, there’s a difference when a company just tries to do something on its own versus when it’s able to work with whatever company made the original. And I can’t help but feel like that shows very well here.

Last year, Sony refreshed its lineup of devices to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the original PlayStation. Unfortunately, I missed out on getting my hands on any of those before the scalpers got there, but I keep thinking about how it was also a missed opportunity. Imagining a Backbone One styled like the 30th anniversary DualSense would be simply incredible, and you can bet the house that I would have tried to buy one.

Just like how I immediately ordered the new Xbox Edition as soon as I saw that it was announced.

Magnetic accessories could disrupt your S Pen https://earlybirdsinvest.com/magnetic-accessories-could-disrupt-your-s-pen/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/magnetic-accessories-could-disrupt-your-s-pen/#respond Wed, 12 Feb 2025 07:58:38 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/magnetic-accessories-could-disrupt-your-s-pen/
Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra S Pen usage

C. Scott Brown / Android Authority

TL;DR

  • The S Pen on the Galaxy S25 Ultra could display magnetic interference issues just like its predecessor.
  • A system warning confirms that magnets can disrupt S Pen signals, affecting writing accuracy and Air Commands.
  • We can confirm that magnetic accessories affect the S Pen on our own S25 Ultra.

Update: February 12, 2025 (2:40 AM ET): There were several reports of magnetic accessories interfering with the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen. We tested this and can confirm interference on our own device.

Android Authority colleague Ryan Haines slapped a magnetic Peak Design wallet case on the back of his S25 Ultra. He found that the S Pen worked fine when it wasn’t overlapping with the wallet, but that drawing abruptly stopped when the S Pen overlapped the magnetic accessory.

Needless to say, you should definitely think twice about using magnetic accessories if you’re a frequent S Pen user.

In addition to these changes, it looks like magnetic accessories, such as cases and adapters, might be messing with the S Pen’s performance on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Reports about this issue also surfaced with the Galaxy S24 Ultra, and it looks like the problem has continued into the S25 Ultra. In fact, Samsung also acknowledged the interference between magnets and the S Pen, going as far back as the Galaxy Note 8! Obviously, the S Pen has evolved a lot since then but it looks like the latest one still doesn’t play well with magnets.

Android Central’s Andrew Myrick shared his personal experience with the Galaxy S25 Ultra and the interference issue while using a Fiberborne case. According to his report, the phone issued a pop-up warning stating: “Magnetic accessories can interfere with your S Pen: The magnets in accessories can interfere with the signals your S Pen sends to your phone. They may cause your S Pen to not write correctly or cause Air commands to occur unintentionally.”

Magnetic accessory S Pen warning Android Central

The publication notes that the warning is a bit misleading because the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen does not support Air Commands. This isn’t true, though. The S Pen on the S25 Ultra does not support “Air Actions,” a feature that allows you to control your Galaxy device like a remote by simply waving your S Pen. However, it does support “Air Commands,” a menu with quick access to various S Pen features that appears when you remove the pen from its slot.

So, the pop-up is actually correct about Air Commands interference caused by magnetic accessories.

Nevertheless, Myrick also pointed out that when he used a MagSafe adapter with Samsung’s silicone case, the warning about S Pen interference didn’t appear. Perhaps the thickness of Samsung’s case and the distance between the magnets and the S Pen play a role in whether or not interference occurs.

What can you expect?

For now, if you’re planning to use magnetic accessories with the Galaxy S25 Ultra, you might want to monitor how they affect your S Pen experience. Last year, when people reported similar issues on the Galaxy S24 Ultra, case maker dbrand also acknowledged it and noted that its users “may observe a negligible reduction in S Pen accuracy when drawing directly over the magnetic array within a MagSafe-enabled case.”

“The amount of interference comes down to a number of factors that relate to both the magnets (strength, coating, thickness, diameter, etc.), as well as the case itself (how deeply the magnets are recessed, what materials are used in the case, etc.),” the company explained.

However, at the time, dbrand warned that magnetic interference with the S Pen can dramatically increase as soon as you add a MagSafe accessory into the mix. “For instance, when using the S Pen with a MagSafe charger attached, users can expect to encounter a large dead zone in the shape of the magnetic ring,” the company said. We’ll definitely have to test and see if this is still the case when you attach a MagSafe accessory to the Galaxy S25 Ultra.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen gets wonky with magnetic accessories on https://earlybirdsinvest.com/the-galaxy-s25-ultras-s-pen-gets-wonky-with-magnetic-accessories-on/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/the-galaxy-s25-ultras-s-pen-gets-wonky-with-magnetic-accessories-on/#respond Sun, 09 Feb 2025 15:29:56 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/the-galaxy-s25-ultras-s-pen-gets-wonky-with-magnetic-accessories-on/

What you need to know

  • Magnetic accessories can mess with the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s S Pen’s performance, just like on the S24 Ultra.
  • Thicker cases might reduce interference, as shown when a MagSafe adapter didn’t trigger a warning.
  • So far, this seems like an isolated issue, but we’re waiting for Samsung’s response.

The Galaxy S25 Ultra stands out from the regular models thanks to its built-in S Pen. However, this version of the stylus takes a step backward. Samsung decided to drop Bluetooth connectivity and Air Command support, which means some of the cool features you might be used to are now missing. On top of that, we’ve learned that if you’re using magnetic accessories, they can mess with the S Pen’s performance.

Android Central’s Andrew Myrick shared an interesting tidbit about his experience with the Galaxy S25 Ultra. While using a Fiberborne case, he got a heads-up from the phone itself—a pop-up message that states: “Magnetic accessories can interfere with your S Pen: The magnets in accessories can interfere with the signals your S Pen sends to your phone. They may cause your S Pen to not write correctly or cause Air commands to occur unintentionally.”

This isn’t exactly a new problem, though. In fact, the Galaxy S24 Ultra has been dealing with the same S Pen interference issue for over 10 months now. Since it first popped up, there have been plenty of reports from users noticing how magnetic accessories can throw off the stylus’ signal.

Interestingly, the S24 Ultra’s S Pen comes with Bluetooth and Air Command support—features that didn’t make the cut for the S25 Ultra.

Despite that difference, both phones show the exact same warning about magnetic accessories interfering with the S Pen. This makes you wonder: did Samsung just forget to tweak the warning message for the S25 Ultra, or was dropping Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) from the S Pen a last-minute change? Either way, it’s a bit of a head-scratcher.

Furthermore, Myrick noticed that when he slapped a MagSafe adapter onto Samsung’s silicone case, the warning message about S Pen interference never appeared. This hints that the thickness of the case—and how far the magnets are from the S Pen—plays a big role in whether interference happens.

We’ve reached out to Samsung to get their take on this and will keep you posted as soon as they get back to us.

So far, we haven’t been able to find any other S25 Ultra devices where this same issue has popped up. It seems like this might be a one-off situation, at least for now.
