We’re thrilled to announce that internship applications are now open for the first-ever Ethereum Season of Internships!

The Ethereum Season of Internships is a collection of paid, fully-remote summer internships offered across the Ethereum ecosystem. It is designed to help establish more paths for the next generation of contributors to connect with Ethereum projects and apply their skills – whether in development, research, design, marketing, operations, or more. Our long-term goal is to make Ethereum an even more welcoming place for new talents.

Over the past few weeks, 18 teams from across the ecosystem have created over 30 internship opportunities. Each position is paid, remote-friendly, and designed to offer real-world experience and mentorship. Whether you’re a developer, researcher, designer, or community builder, this is your invitation to apply!

Why Apply?

The Ethereum ecosystem is growing — and so is the need for driven contributors who want to build in the open and support meaningful projects. If you’ve been looking for a way to become an active participant, this is your moment.

Dubai Government Opens Door to Accepting Crypto for Service Fees https://earlybirdsinvest.com/dubai-government-opens-door-to-accepting-crypto-for-service-fees/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/dubai-government-opens-door-to-accepting-crypto-for-service-fees/#respond Tue, 13 May 2025 13:03:07 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/dubai-government-opens-door-to-accepting-crypto-for-service-fees/

Dubai agreed to allow cryptocurrency payments for government services in a deal with crypto exchange Crypto.com, taking a step toward implementing its plan for a cashless society.

Once technical details are complete, the agreement will allow individuals and businesses to pay fees using digital wallets from Crypto.com, which is licensed by the emirate’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). The platform will then convert the amounts into dirhams for payment, according to a Monday press release.

The agreement allows the government “to harness financial technology in launching a new digital payment channel on the government’s digital portals,” it said in the release. The cashless strategy is expected to add at least 8 billion dirhams ($2.2 billion) annually to the economy.

Dubai has been building its crypto credentials for several years and sees itself as a Middle East crypto hub. In March 2022, it established VARA, calling it the world’s first independent crypto regulator, and has awarded licenses to exchanges including Binance and OKX. It also initiated a metaverse strategy aiming to attract 1,000 metaverse and blockchain companies by 2030.

IRS' Crypto Leads Are Leaving the Agency After Accepting DOGE Deals https://earlybirdsinvest.com/irs-crypto-leads-are-leaving-the-agency-after-accepting-doge-deals/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/irs-crypto-leads-are-leaving-the-agency-after-accepting-doge-deals/#respond Sat, 03 May 2025 03:09:45 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/irs-crypto-leads-are-leaving-the-agency-after-accepting-doge-deals/

The IRS lost two key directors working on crypto initiatives, Seth Wilks and Raj Mukherjee, on Friday after they accepted deferred resignation offers directed by the Department of Government Efficiency.

Wilks and Mukherjee, who both went to the IRS from the crypto industry, are technically still employees with the IRS for the next few months but they are on paid administrative leave as of Friday afternoon, two people familiar with the situation told CoinDesk. President Donald Trump’s administration, through DOGE, offered deferred resignations to a wide array of federal employees earlier this year.

Wilks, who was previously a vice president at TaxBit, and Mukherjee, who was previously ConsenSys and Binance.US’ head of tax, both joined the IRS Digital Asset Initiative in February 2024, and were tasked with helping the IRS build a better approach to crypto taxation, including leading the agency’s efforts to build reporting, compliance and enforcement programs for crypto and coordinating with the industry. They worked on an updated 1099-DA tax form shared last summer to aid U.S. persons with filing taxes tied to digital asset transactions.

The pair also oversaw parts of the agency’s efforts to draft tax rules for the crypto industry.

The IRS finalized one such rule, imposing certain data collection requirements on decentralized finance (DeFi) brokers, in the waning days of the former Joe Biden administration. This rule was overturned by Congress earlier this year under the Congressional Review Act in a joint resolution signed by Trump.

Wilks was the IRS’ executive director of digital asset strategy and development, while Mukherjee was the executive director of the digital assets office.

Both people who spoke to CoinDesk noted that the two officials had accepted voluntary buyouts but that these deferred resignations came ahead of expected cuts to IRS staff.

More than 20,000 IRS employees signed up for the deferred resignation program, the New York Times reported last month, with these employees being put on administrative leave through September.

Swiss Spark Supermarket begins accepting bitcoin https://earlybirdsinvest.com/swiss-spark-supermarket-begins-accepting-bitcoin/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/swiss-spark-supermarket-begins-accepting-bitcoin/#respond Sun, 20 Apr 2025 17:40:06 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/swiss-spark-supermarket-begins-accepting-bitcoin/

SPAR has begun accepting Bitcoin payments for Zug, Switzerland. Swiss progressive approach to adoption marks another milestone. This implementation uses the Lightning network through DFX Swiss’ OpenCryptopay solution to enable instant transactions at point of sale.

The location of the store in Zug, often referred to as “Crypto Valley,” reflects the embrace of Swiss technology. The country has emerged as a global leader in Bitcoin adoption, with cities such as Zug and Lugano’s support initiatives integrating Bitcoin into everyday trading.

In particular, Lugano made headlines with a “plan” initiative aimed at making Bitcoin the city’s de facto legal fiat currency. The plan, backed by Mayor Michele Foretti, has already enabled taxes, public services and Bitcoin payments to hundreds of local merchants. The city also partnered with Tether to establish the Technology Education Centre and the Startup Fund.

“This spare location is one of Switzerland’s first supermarkets, and you can pay directly at checkout using Bitcoin via LNURL,” DFX Switzerland announced. The implementation could pave the way for expansion across a network of SPARs with more than 13,900 stores across 48 countries, serving around 14.7 million customers every day.

Rahim Taghizadegan, director of Bitcoin Association Switzerland, demonstrated the simplicity of the system. This user-friendly approach is consistent with Switzerland’s vision of making Bitcoin transactions accessible to everyday consumers.

The country’s Bitcoin-friendly stance brings together many Bitcoin and crypto companies and initiatives. Beyond Switzerland and Lugano, Swiss cities are exploring similar programs supported by the robust banking sector that increasingly embraces Bitcoin.

Spar’s initiative is built on the foundation, joining other Swiss retailers and businesses to accept Bitcoin payments. This move could impact recruitment across the retail sector, particularly given Switzerland’s role as a model of Bitcoin integration in traditional finance and commerce.

4 Benefits of Accepting Crypto Payment in Your eCommerce Business https://earlybirdsinvest.com/4-benefits-of-accepting-crypto-payment-in-your-ecommerce-business/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/4-benefits-of-accepting-crypto-payment-in-your-ecommerce-business/#respond Sun, 09 Feb 2025 17:07:41 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/4-benefits-of-accepting-crypto-payment-in-your-ecommerce-business/

Cryptocurrencies are changing the way businesses and customers interact. By 2025, experts estimate there will be around 861 million people using cryptocurrencies. More online stores are starting to accept payments in crypto, like Bitcoin and Ethereum. Ultimately, such a shift from traditional payment habits brings forth massive perks. In essence, crypto payments make shopping easier for customers, speed up payments, and help businesses grow.

Integrating cryptocurrency payment systems into your eCommerce business enables you to reach a global customer base while offering faster, safer transactions. This article outlines four of the primary benefits associated with accepting crypto payments and how they can enhance eCommerce operations while propelling you ahead in technological innovation.

Interwoven Economies: The IBC Protocol’s Influence on Cross-Chain Payment Systems

The Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) protocol plays an essential part in ensuring fast, safe, and seamless cryptocurrency payments across various blockchain networks. As cryptocurrency continues to advance and interoperability among various ecosystems becomes ever more evident, IBC facilitates secure communications among different chains for easy token and asset transfers between them.

IBC protocol’s contribution to cross-chain crypto payments cannot be overemphasized. By connecting different blockchains seamlessly and enhancing efficiency for crypto payments, businesses can accept more digital currencies while engaging with customers who prefer different blockchain networks. For instance, a customer using Ethereum can easily make payments to online stores accepting Bitcoin thanks to the IBC protocol’s interoperability features.

Moreover, IBC includes support for DeFi applications and token exchanges, increasing liquidity and flexibility. Today, some of the most common use cases for IBC protocol are found across different fields such as supply chain management, decentralized exchanges, cross-chain asset transfers, supply chain monitoring, and supply chain auditing. In a nutshell, the widespread application of IBC further attests to its versatility and efficiency.

By adopting IBC, eCommerce businesses can offer faster crypto payments that take place without needing third-party intermediaries. These options ultimately create cross-chain interactions without incurring fees for intermediary interactions between blockchains, which is a major plus in the eCommerce sphere.

Increased Security and Lower Fraud Risk

One of the key benefits of accepting cryptocurrency payments is increased security. Cryptocurrencies make use of blockchain technology, which is well-known for its severe fraud and chargeback protection features; once confirmed, all transactions recorded here cannot be reversed. This allows organizations to handle chargebacks and fraud more quickly than traditional payment options.

The bottom line is that accepting crypto payments allows eCommerce enterprises to reduce potential fraudulent behavior while maintaining consumer satisfaction.

Reduced Transaction Fees

Another major perk of using crypto for online shopping is the lower fees. Regular payment methods, like credit cards or banks, often take a big slice of your sales. This can really hurt small businesses and eCommerce shops. But with crypto payments, especially on networks like Bitcoin or Ethereum, the fees are usually much lower.

Lower transaction fees especially benefit international businesses that may incur currency conversion or cross-border payment charges that would normally apply when processing payments internationally.

Additionally, other cryptocurrencies like Litecoin or Bitcoin Cash offer faster transaction speeds with even lower fees compared to Bitcoin and Ethereum. This way, businesses can select one that best meets their needs in terms of speed and cost efficiency.

Expanded Global Reach and Access to Emerging Markets

Accepting crypto payments opens your eCommerce business to global expansion opportunities. Unlike traditional payment methods, cryptocurrency payments don’t impose restrictions by borders or currency regulations and offer an easy and efficient means of reaching customers anywhere around the globe.

Additionally, cryptocurrencies offer financial inclusion that traditional payment systems cannot. Even without access to traditional banking services, cryptocurrency transactions provide another channel of interaction for consumers in developing nations or those lacking access. By accepting crypto payments for eCommerce purchases, businesses in this sphere can reach into this emerging market and capture customers with tech-savvy lifestyles from all around the globe.

Increased Speed and Efficient Transactions

Crypto payments’ speed and efficiency are other compelling arguments in favor of adopting them into your eCommerce business. Traditional payment systems may take several days for international payments. Conversely, cryptocurrency payments typically happen much quicker—often within minutes.

Moreover, crypto payments don’t involve intermediaries, making the payment process considerably quicker for eCommerce businesses that process multiple transactions quickly and regularly. By accepting crypto payments, eCommerce businesses can provide customers with faster order fulfillment while decreasing waiting time between payment and product delivery.

Also, cryptocurrencies operate around the clock, meaning transactions can happen at any hour regardless of time zones and working hours. This facilitates customer convenience while helping eCommerce businesses process payments promptly without delays or setbacks.

Final Thoughts

Accepting cryptocurrency for your online store comes with a set of benefits. First, it’s more secure, and second, it can save you money on transaction fees. Also, you can reach customers all over the world, and transactions happen faster, too.

Using the IBC protocol helps different blockchains work better together. This makes payments more secure and efficient. As crypto gains more fans on a global scale, adding it as a payment option for your eCommerce store can keep your business ahead in the digital-first world of today.
