Core 29.1 checks your computer’s clock against the central time from its peers. If the difference is large enough (approximately 10 minutes or more), a warning will be displayed even if the correct date and time are displayed on the desktop. The Core warning text is: “Make sure your computer’s date and time are correct. Bitcoin will not work properly if your clock is incorrect.”
This occurs when the system is not properly synchronized with an authoritative time source. Common causes include NTP being disabled, the hardware clock not being synchronized with the system clock (common in dual-boot or VM setups), or simply clock drift if the computer has not been recently updated from the network.
To fix it, force the operating system to resynchronize with the network time server. On Linux, you can run timedatectl set-ntp true. On Windows, you can run w32tm /resync. On macOS, turn on “Set time automatically” in date and time settings. If you are using a VM or dual-boot environment, also check the hardware clock and set it to UTC.
Once the systems are properly synced, the Core will realign with its peers and the warning will disappear after a few minutes or reboot.
