After almost three months into the “reboot” of the C++ team, I would like to give an update about the team itself, what we did and what we plan to do.

Team update

The so-called C++ team currently consists of Paweł Bylica (@chfast), Greg Colvin (@gcolvin), Liana Husikyan (@LianaHus), Dimitry Khokhlov (@winsvega), Yann Levreau (@yann300), Bob Summerwill (@bobsummerwill), me (@chriseth) and (kindly “donated” by Eris Industries) RJ (@VoR0220).

Paweł is the original author of the llvm-based EVM-to-native just-in-time compiler, re-joined in April and will continue improving the JIT.

Greg joined in February and already achieved substantial speedups for the C++ implementation of the Ethereum Virtual Machine, using his experience from implementing the Java Virtual Machine for his former employer Oracle.

Liana and Yann are working on Solidity and its IDEs (yes, plural, see below!).

Dimitry is in charge of the consensus tests and is also working on the C++ core.

Bob joined in February (having been part of the community for a longer time) and is currently leading the ambitious effort of disentangling the C++ codebase. He was also a major contributor to the homestead guide.

RJ joined Eris industries in March and is working on the Solidity compiler.

Furthermore, the coordination and co-operation between the C++ and the Go teams is on a completely different level than before. One of the reasons why we improve the interpreter is to get a water mark for the go-ethereum interpreter and lessons learnt during that process will directly feed into the go interpreter, just to name one example.

Announcing Remix

Developing Solidity itself and providing resources and tools for people writing smart contracts and dapps is one of the largest areas of work for the C++ team. An essential such tool is a debugger for Solidity and the Ethereum Virtual Machine so that developers can “look inside” the virtual machine and find the exact spot in their code that is not doing what they expect it to do. Our IDE Mix is a wonderful piece of software that provides exactly this. Unfortunately, most people do not use it and prefer browser-solidity or just some unit testing tools.

This is understandable, people do not want to switch editors (I guess this is also why we got a vast number of Solidity plugins for existing IDEs in the past months) or install extra software. Furthermore, the relative amount of external contributions we received for the html5+js-based minimalistic IDE browser-solidity compared to C++/Qt-based Mix is just overwhelming.

Because of that and also in an effort to increase modularity, reusability and openness, we decided to rethink the way we want to provide developer tools: With the remix project we will create a set of reusable html5+js modules for developing and debugging smart contracts.

This means that it will be possible to integrate a debugger for EVM and Solidity into browser-solidity (which will also move to a more prominent place in the future), but also into visual studio code, atom, sublime, basically any IDE that is html5+js-based. You will even be able to fire up the debugger inside Mist, also for transactions in the past!

It is probably a bit too early to try out remix, but if you want, follow the instructions in the repository, but be sure to use the latest develop version of cpp-ethereum as backend node.

For everyone else: Here is a screenshot of an early proof of concept version:

Screenshot of an early version of remix

Other Tasks

Concerning the current focus for other projects, we are improving the runtime performance of the virtual machine. Greg already made great progress in that area and still has a lot of ideas. We are currently setting up general benchmarks, so that we can compare the performance of different implementations and the difference between interpreters and just-in-time compilers. We plan to make the just-in-time compiler available to other implementations like py-ethereum and of course go-ethereum.

For Solidity, the main areas of work are currently fixed-point types, structs as part of the ABI and extending the usefulness of libraries via “inlineable” functions and templates. Furthermore, we would like to invite the community to write and publish useful libraries. Special thanks to Alex Beregszaszi (@axic), Nick Johnson (@Arachnid) and Andreas Olofsson (@androlo) for making a great start there!

Finally, we want to reduce the pain that is currently caused when working with the C++ codebase, especially due to external and intra-dependencies. We are already almost at the point where Solidity can be compiled in isolation and the goal is to move back to our old home, the ethereum/cpp-ethereum repository, splitting parts off only where it makes sense, namely for Mix, Solidity and EVMJIT.

OpenSim regions near 1 million https://earlybirdsinvest.com/opensim-regions-near-1-million/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/opensim-regions-near-1-million/#respond Mon, 15 Sep 2025 21:01:22 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/opensim-regions-near-1-million/

I know we haven’t done one of these in a while, but I’ll be doing a presentation on OpenSim — and on AI — at this year’s OpenSim Community Conference, so we’ll need some recent stats!

The big news is that OSgrid reported the equivalent of 864,868 standard region equivalents this month — normally, its land area is around 35,000 regions. If it still had 35,000 regions, the total OpenSim land area this month would have been 142,108 — still an impressive number, but not 971,976!

And even with the smaller number, OSgrid would still be the largest grid by land area.

According to OSgrid president Dan Banner, the regions are from someone working on a continental project.

“They were trying to map out North America,” Banner told Hypergrid Business. “I will check with them and see what’s valid or not and clean up if not.”

For the land area chart below, I’m using the 35,000-region land area number for OSgrid, not the 800,000-region land area.

OpenSim land area for September, 2025 — not counting 800,000 regions continental project regions on OSgrid. (Hypergrid Business data.)

In other OSgrid news, the grid is celebrating its 18th anniversary this year, and there will be an annual fundraiser with an auction next week.

In other OpenSim stats news, total number of registered users went up by more than 2,000 compared to this past January, when I last ran the stats, while the total number of active users went down by a little over 3,000. The reason is probably because I only have 241 active grids on my list right now, down from 300 in January.

There have probably been a ton of new grids added over the past few months that I’m missing, and a bunch that changed their loginURLs or domain names, or who moved their stats page — grids who should be showing up in the stats but aren’t.

If you’re one of those grids, email me at [email protected].

I am now tracking a total of 2,582 public grids, of which 241 were active this month, and 191 published their statistics.

Our stats do not include most of the grids running on DreamGrid, a free easy-to-use version OpenSim, since these tend to be private grids.

OpenSim is a free, open-source, virtual world platform, that’s similar to Second Life and allows people with no technical skills to quickly and cheaply create virtual worlds and teleport to other virtual worlds. Those with technical skills can run OpenSim worlds on their servers for free using either DreamGrid, the official OpenSim installer for those who are more technically inclined, or any other distribution, while commercial hosting starts at less than $5 a region.

A list of OpenSim hosting providers is here. If you offer region rentals and are not on this list, email me!

You can download the recommended Firestorm viewer here and find out where to get content for your OpenSim world or region here.

Hypergrid Business newsletter is now available

Every month on the 15th — right after the stats report comes out — we will be sending out a newsletter with all the OpenSim news from the previous month. You can subscribe here or fill out the form below.

Hypergrid Business content update

As you’ve probably noticed, I’ve scaled back on Hypergrid Business these last couple of years, mostly due to being super busy with AI coverage at my day job. But then someone offered to buy the site from me. And, in an attempt to get the best possible price for it, I looked up its latest traffic and performance stats. Keeping in mind that these are at a time when I’m barely updating it.

  • According to Google Analytics, there were 11,129 pageviews over the last 30 days, with 5,119 unique visitors.
  • Over the past year, there were 157K views by 66,041 unique visitors.
  • From 2009 to 2023, monthly traffic went from 5,000 pageviews to over 100,000, over 200,000, and, one month, hit 346,981.
  • The total number of views over that period was 8.7 million. During the first half of 2023, page views hovered between 29K and 39K a month.

So if we have more content on the site, pageviews would probably go back up. Most of the people would be coming for the VR and AR articles, sure, but, in the process, they might learn something about OpenSim.

But then I found a few more positive indicators. Our Google Search Console shows that Goolge is still showing Hypergrid Business links to millions of people, it’s still listed as a Google News source and it’s included in Google Discover.

Also, a few other nice indicators:

What could someone do with a site like this, with all of its history and domain credibility? Well, they could use it as a launch pad for up-to-date content about VR and AI.

And, since the readers are tech-friendly — in fact, OpenSim readers don’t mind being on the raw, bleeding edges of technology! — they probably wouldn’t mind too much if AI was used to help research and create the content, as long as a real human was overseeing the whole process closely.

In fact, someone recently contacted me with a job doing just that, editing a mostly-AI-generated newsletter about AI.

So that’s an option. I could sell it to someone looking to do something like that.

Or I could keep the site and do something interesting.

For example, I’m very curious about how AI will affect content creators. These are people who create images, text, virtual environments, games — and communities! How will AI affect what they’re doing? What new opportunities will they have — and what will be taken over by automation?

As someone who’s been writing for a living all her adult life, this is a deeply personal question to me.

So I think I’ll be using Hypergrid Business to start exploring it. Maybe I’ll set up some automations to pull  in the stats, say, so that these reports take less time to do. Or maybe I’ll pull in information from OpenSimWorld, grid calendars, and social media feeds and do weekly summaries of the top goings-on on the hypergrid. Or maybe grid owners and organizers can use AI to help them generate regular stories about what’s happening in their communities.

There are a lot of possibilities here. I’m looking forward to doing some exploring.

Top 25 grids by active users

When it comes to general-purpose social grids, especially closed grids, the rule of thumb is the busier the better. People looking to make new friends look for grids that already have the most users. Merchants looking to sell content will go to the grids with the most potential customers. Event organizers looking for the biggest audience — you get the idea.

AMF warns MICA of “atomic weapons” and France threatens to break the EU crypto market https://earlybirdsinvest.com/amf-warns-mica-of-atomic-weapons-and-france-threatens-to-break-the-eu-crypto-market/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/amf-warns-mica-of-atomic-weapons-and-france-threatens-to-break-the-eu-crypto-market/#respond Mon, 15 Sep 2025 20:58:03 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/amf-warns-mica-of-atomic-weapons-and-france-threatens-to-break-the-eu-crypto-market/

The French crypto industry is once again in the spotlight. Reuters reveals that France is once again at the heart of European crypto debate, indicating that it could move to block licensed companies in other EU jurisdictions from operating within the country.

The regulatory warning issued on Monday by Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani, Chairman of the Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), highlights the deep fractures already manifested in the European Union’s groundbreaking market in the European Union’s Crypto Asset Regulation (MICA).

MICA, officially enacted by service providers in December 2024, was billed as the world’s first comprehensive digital asset rulebook.

This framework allows crypto companies to obtain permits in one member country and “passport” their licenses in all 27 countries.

However, since the scheme was rolled out, Ireland, for example, has so far received 17.5 times the number of crypto-passports as France.

For businesses, the passport mechanism is an award and an efficient gateway to the block’s single market. However, regulators like the AMF have made fault lines public for the past nine months.

24 hours7d1Y

Barbat-Layani warned that companies are already “shopping” for their weakest jurisdictions, and have secured light touch licenses before expanding to larger markets such as France. “The possibility of denying an EU passport is not ruled out,” she told Reuters, comparing the option to “atomic weapons” that can be deployed if the director gap continues.

This comment is because France, Italy and Austria jointly seek the European Securities and Markets Agency (ESMA) to envisage direct surveillance of major crypto companies.

In a joint paper, three regulators argued that the implementation of the early MICA revealed a “major difference” in the way national supervisors interpret and enforce rules. They argue that the direct ESMA oversight they argue is essential to protect investors and ensure a level playing field.

That push follows stinging criticism of Malta’s licensing regime. In July, in a peer review of the ESMA, the Malta Financial Services Agency found that it “partially met expectations” when approving the crypto provider, highlighting a decline in risk assessments and slow follow-up of supervision.

Additionally, the report has encouraged concerns that smaller jurisdictions could become regulatory gateways for businesses seeking rapid EU access.

Are there other reasons why crypto companies are escheating France?

The regulatory debate of the high stakes unfolds against the tense background in France’s own crypto ecosystem. Over the past few months, a series of violent intrigues targeting crypto entrepreneurs and their families has rattled the industry. French police have attempted to acquiring at least half a dozen of them to demand ransom for digital assets, including cases in which victims were cut off to put pressure on millions of payments.

Security experts warn that some of the new EU reporting requirements could make it easier for criminals to identify wealthy targets.

This double pressure, fragmentation of regulations at the EU level and rising domestic security concerns have put Paris in a difficult position as the summer season approaches.

AMF has spent years on blockchain startups that brand France as a jurisdiction of clarity and reliability, especially after granting a license to Binance’s French organization in 2022.

The interests are high for investors and businesses. If France unilaterally refuses to recognize licenses from other EU states, the single market promises supporting MICA could break before they become fully established.

However, it is important to understand that risk is not just reputation but structural. The divergence of EU oversight will undermine confidence at the moment Europe is considering whether Trump can provide a reliable alternative to America.

1 Reason Wall Street Is Obsessed With IBM Stock https://earlybirdsinvest.com/1-reason-wall-street-is-obsessed-with-ibm-stock/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/1-reason-wall-street-is-obsessed-with-ibm-stock/#respond Mon, 15 Sep 2025 20:47:46 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/1-reason-wall-street-is-obsessed-with-ibm-stock/ Share prices of IBM have nearly doubled in just three years. Investors are excited by the company’s shift into hot technologies.

International Business Machines (IBM 1.10%), which is usually referred to by its ticker IBM, is a global icon in the technology sector. The company has a surprising ability to change with the times, and it’s been doing so for more than 100 years now. Indeed, when IBM was founded back in 1911, it made things like scales and clocks. Today, it makes all sorts of equipment, including quantum computers, and it supports the cloud computing industry, which is the backbone of artificial intelligence (AI).

Wall Street loves IBM again

Even after a fairly sizable drawdown since July, shares of IBM still trade up around 20% or so over the past year. Over the trailing three years, the stock has nearly doubled in price. That’s a pretty sizable return and highlights the fact that Wall Street is obsessed with IBM shares again. As noted, the company has shifted into key areas like quantum, cloud computing, and AI.

A person jumping between cliffs one with past written on it and the other with future.

But what’s special about IBM is that it hasn’t always been focused on these areas. Just a few years ago, investors pretty much hated the stock because it was out of step with the technology sector. The concern about IBM was so bad that between 2012 and 2020, the stock actually lost roughly half of its value. Contrarian investors with a long-term view, however, realized that IBM had updated its business many times before.

IBM is worth loving most of the time

The business revamp was difficult and took many years. It involved a large corporate spin-off, asset sales, and acquisitions, the largest of which was Red Hat. But IBM did what needed to be done to remain relevant. So while IBM is popular again because of its current business focus, the real reason to be obsessed with IBM for long-term investors is its proven ability to change with the world around it.

HYPE price prediction scenarios reached new extremes as BitMEX co-founder Arthur Hayes projected the token could reach $5,000, building on his earlier forecast of 126x gains within three years.

His bold call coincides with Native Markets securing the USDH stablecoin ticker for Hyperliquid after defeating heavyweight competitors, including Paxos and Ethena.

Technical analysis reveals HYPE trading near $54 after completing what appears to be a major Elliott Wave cycle, with indicators suggesting potential retracement toward $25-$50 support levels before resuming its upward trajectory.

The platform’s dominance in perpetual futures markets and $1.2 billion annual revenue provide fundamental support for Hayes’ ambitious long-term targets.

Native Markets Triumph Fuels Stablecoin Integration Plans

Native Markets emerged victorious in Hyperliquid’s USDH stablecoin governance vote after weeks of intense competition.

The decision followed validator commitments, and the prediction market indicated that it heavily favored the team over established competitors.

Ethena withdrew from the race on Thursday, citing community concerns about non-native infrastructure requirements. The exit eliminated a major contender that initially appeared well-positioned for the partnership.

Paxos remained in contention despite revising its proposal midweek. The updated Version 2, which is no longer relevant, included deep PayPal and Venmo integration, zero-cost on- and off-ramps, and a $20 million incentive package.

Paxos also committed all USDH revenue to Hyperliquid growth until it reached a $1 billion TVL.

Additionally, the community has noted that Native Markets won due to its tight integration with Hyperliquid’s ecosystem.

Reserves in cash and U.S. Treasuries will be managed by BlackRock off-chain, while tokenized assets utilize Superstate and Stripe’s Bridge infrastructure.

The team pledged to split all reserve yield between Hyperliquid’s Assistance Fund and broader ecosystem development.

Backing from Uniswap Labs, Paradigm, and Polychain veterans further strengthened credibility among validators.

Elliott Wave Completion Indicates Major Retracement Risk

HYPE’s chart structure suggests completion of a major Elliott Wave 1 cycle around the current $54 levels.

HYPE Price Prediction: Native Markets Wins USDH Stablecoin Battle as Crypto Hayes Calls for $5K Target

The ending diagonal pattern exhibits corrective characteristics across each subwave, indicating potential exhaustion of the current bullish impulse.

Technical confluence points toward a significant retracement targeting the $25 region.

This level represents multiple support factors, including untapped volume nodes, the macro 0.382 Fibonacci retracement, and speed fan golden pocket alignment.

The ascending channel containing recent price action approaches the upper boundary resistance.

HYPE’s positioning near $53.42 suggests potential topping action despite maintaining bullish momentum characteristics throughout the advance.

Fair Value Gap identification provides substantial buying interest zones during any corrective moves.

These market inefficiencies typically act as price magnets during periods of volatility, where rapid movements leave gaps that require fills.

Alternative wave count scenarios involving nested 1-2 structures appear less probable given current market conditions.

However, decisive breaks above $61 could shift bias toward continued bullish interpretation rather than correction expectations.

FOMC Volatility Creates Strategic Entry Opportunities

Short-term analysis focuses on the Federal Reserve’s September 16-17 FOMC meeting, anticipating rate cuts that could catalyze broader market volatility.

Expectations center around 25 basis point cuts or potentially more aggressive monetary policy action.

Immediate resistance clusters near the 0.618 Fibonacci level at $56.22, with stronger resistance in the $57.50 zone.

These levels represent logical profit-taking areas for short-term traders and potential reversal points for broader corrections.

The support structure identifies key levels at $52.74, with deeper support around $49.88.

The alignment with $50 bid levels creates high-probability setups for both continuation and retracement scenarios based on Fibonacci retracement positioning.

Hayes’s $5,000 projection assumes an explosive expansion of the stablecoin market beyond $10 trillion, driving speculative trading demand.

Hyperliquid’s 60% perpetual futures market share and $1.2 billion annual revenue support long-term bullish scenarios despite near-term technical headwinds.

Is BTC Hyper the Next 100x Bitcoin Layer-2 Everyone’s Building?

While HYPE faces potential correction before reaching Hayes’s $5,000 target, this Bitcoin Layer-2 solution is gaining strong development momentum.

Smart investors know that finding scalability projects early can lead to massive returns during infrastructure upgrades.

BTC Hyper is getting attention because it makes Bitcoin faster and programmable using Solana technology.

The platform turns Bitcoin into a DeFi asset with smart contracts and instant transactions.

The presale has raised over $13 million, with the mainnet launch approaching. Early investors can earn over 150% staking rewards while the network prepares for full deployment.

Worth noting that the best Layer-2 projects get adopted quickly once developers start building applications.

BTC Hyper launches soon with audited smart contracts and cross-chain features. This means you should join now if you want presale access.

You can buy BTC Hyper tokens on the ongoing presale website using BTC, ETH, USDT, or credit cards.

Paul Atkins Promises Crypto Firms Notice Before SEC Takes Action https://earlybirdsinvest.com/paul-atkins-promises-crypto-firms-notice-before-sec-takes-action/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/paul-atkins-promises-crypto-firms-notice-before-sec-takes-action/#respond Mon, 15 Sep 2025 20:32:40 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/paul-atkins-promises-crypto-firms-notice-before-sec-takes-action/

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is shifting its approach to handling crypto-related cases.

In a conversation with the Financial Times on September 15, SEC Chair Paul Atkins shared plans to move away from the past strategy of launching enforcement actions without warning.

Atkins explained that companies working with digital assets will be given an initial heads-up if the agency identifies technical rule breaches.

Instead of surprising firms with legal action, Atkins said the commission will issue a preliminary notice before taking any steps. He told the FT:

You can’t just suddenly come and bash down their door and say uh-uh, we caught you, you’re doing something and it’s a technical violation.

He also criticized past SEC actions that lacked consistency and clear legal backing. Atkins noted that many felt the agency’s earlier decisions were unpredictable and not based on past rulings.

Describing the former approach as one where the SEC “would shoot first and then ask questions later”, he said that a more thoughtful process is being introduced. Under the new method, firms may have several months to address concerns before any official action is taken.

Additionally, Atkins pushed back against the idea that most crypto tokens should be considered securities. He stated that many do not fall under the same rules as traditional financial instruments.

Recently, Atkins introduced a proposal that would allow companies offering crypto services to operate under a single regulatory system. What does it include? Read the full story.

Leaked Xiaomi 17 ‘Pro’ render might entice you with its huge external screen https://earlybirdsinvest.com/leaked-xiaomi-17-pro-render-might-entice-you-with-its-huge-external-screen/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/leaked-xiaomi-17-pro-render-might-entice-you-with-its-huge-external-screen/#respond Mon, 15 Sep 2025 20:24:34 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/leaked-xiaomi-17-pro-render-might-entice-you-with-its-huge-external-screen/

What you need to know

  • A report from a Chinese social media post highlights Xiaomi’s sudden profile picture change to a suspected upcoming device.
  • Rumored to be the Xiaomi 17 series, the rendering leak showcases a device with a huge external display on its real panel around two camera, similar to a foldable.
  • A live hands-on image of the device was previously leaked, but a recent post by Xiaomi’s head, Lu Weibing, claims the 17 series will launch “this month.”

Another report from a Chinese social media website claims to have discovered an alleged look at Xiaomi’s next flagship phone.

A post on Weibo by Why Lab highlighted the sudden appearance of the Xiaomi 17 or 17 Pro, courtesy of the company’s official account. The company has seemingly changed its profile icon to the suspected upcoming series in preparation for teaser material and its official launch. The device features a rather large external display on its rear panel that fully encompasses its two cameras.

While it’s not completely edge-to-edge, the external display still appears to be a generous size, capable of showing a clock, and likely more from within Xiaomi’s mobile OS.

Leica camera branding is also spotted right under this external display and camera array. The leaked top-half rendering suggests the device’s physical buttons (power, volume rocker) will be placed on its right side. Moreover, the phone seems to have rounded corners, flat sides, and potentially a fully flat display. A report by Android Headlines chimed in, claiming that this rendering is of the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max.

Furthering this suspicion is a post on Weibo from the other day by the company’s head, Lu Weibing. Lu Weibing teased that the upcoming series is reportedly the Xiaomi 17, and will consist of the base 17 model, the Xiaomi 17 Pro, and the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. The post states the phone will rock the recently confirmed Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the successor to the Elite from 2024, when it launches “this month.”

Xiaomi’s making moves

Xiaomi’s head also teases that the 17 Pro will be a “sophisticated compact imaging flagship,” while the 17 Pro Max is designed to be “the more powerful” flagship in the industry.

Earlier this month, an alleged live photo of Xiaomi’s upcoming flagship series was posted online, showing off this external display. It was previously assumed that this would end up launching on the Xiaomi 16 series, but it seems things have since changed, and we’re hoping up to 17, instead. Either way, an external display on a slab phone is something we haven’t seen from Xiaomi since the Mi 11 Ultra days.

The device is expected to rock a triple camera setup: two lenses within the camera visor-esque external display, and a final lens right under it in a pill-shaped container. Specifications are still up in the air, but if Xiaomi is planning on a launch later in September, we won’t have to wait that long.

REX-Osprey Dogecoin and XRP ETFs likely to debut this week https://earlybirdsinvest.com/rex-osprey-dogecoin-and-xrp-etfs-likely-to-debut-this-week/ https://earlybirdsinvest.com/rex-osprey-dogecoin-and-xrp-etfs-likely-to-debut-this-week/#respond Mon, 15 Sep 2025 19:41:40 +0000 https://earlybirdsinvest.com/rex-osprey-dogecoin-and-xrp-etfs-likely-to-debut-this-week/

REX-Osprey’s Dogecoin ETF (DOJE) and XRP ETF (XRPR) commence trading on Sept. 18, according to information shared on Sept. 15.

Bloomberg senior ETF analyst Eric Balchunas confirmed DOJE starts trading on Sept. 18, noting that the TRUMP, BONK, and Bitcoin funds lack confirmed trading dates.

On the same day, REX Shares confirmed that the XRPR launch is scheduled for this week.

RIC structure

The REX-Osprey ETFs employ a registered investment company (RIC) framework that distinguishes them from traditional spot crypto ETFs and their own Solana ETF’s original approach.

Bloomberg ETF analyst James Seyffart explained that this structure provides operational flexibility while meeting regulatory requirements.

The RIC framework enables funds to hold spot crypto assets primarily while maintaining derivative usage capabilities and ETF investment options when market conditions demand flexibility.

This approach operates within established investment company regulations rather than corporate tax structures used by Bitcoin and Ethereum spot ETFs.

The structure offers different tax treatment, operational requirements, and regulatory oversight compared to C-corporations.

These differences affect investor return distribution methods while providing a middle path between pure spot exposure and complete structural innovation.

Solana ETF

REX-Osprey previously launched the Solana ETF (SSK) as a C-corporation before converting structures, demonstrating the team’s willingness to adapt regulatory approaches.

The Dogecoin ETF experienced delays from its original Sept. 12 expected debut, with Balchunas predicting the mid-week launch materialized.

The funds join the crypto ETF landscape as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) approved five REX-Osprey ETFs despite structural differences from existing products.

Regarding standard crypto ETF applications, Seyffart noted that over 90 filings are awaiting a decision from the SEC. The first batch of approvals might happen in October, as some of the altcoin filings face their final deadline next month.

However, the SEC might delay the launch despite giving regulatory approval, as it recently did with multi-asset funds from Grayscale and Bitwise.

According to the Bloomberg analysts, the reason is that the regulator is finishing a framework to fast-track crypto ETF approvals, and wants to allow their trading after its conclusion.

Nevertheless, the REX-Osprey launches expand crypto ETF options beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum for now, offering exposure to other altcoins.
